Well hello everyone! Thanks for clicking on my first RMT I’ve ever made. Well, one of my few teams I’ve made, but don’t fret! I’ve had a lot of competitive battling experience... using other people’s teams, of course, as well as some of mine.
Team Building Process:
Machamp:
I wanted to use Machamp as not only I like this Pokémon, but it’s a pretty versatile one as well. My certain Machamp, though, is pretty unorthodox (it is not on Smogon’s pre-made move sets). I’ve tested him plenty of times on another team, and it’s just amazing. It’s a bulky Machamp, having the ability to hit hard, and defending on its special side.
Gyarados:
So first I wanted not only the fearsome Gyarados, but I wanted to make sure that not only would it attack but would counter stuff. This BulkyGyara is close to the standard moveset, though it has a few changes to counter Pokémon. With this moveset, I’m able to check scizor with Intimidate and relative bulkiness, as well as salamence, but more on that later.
Hippodown:
I wanted something to take the electric attacks that would be inevitably aimed at Gyarados, therefore I was on the lookout for a wall-ish ground Pokémon. I arrived at Hippodown, providing SR support, electric protection, as well as a wall.
Suicune:
Being on the lookout for a wall, with special attacking capabilities, I couldn’t ignore Suicune. Its crocune set is just amazing, it can wall, set up, heal while also sponging up status.
Porygon-Z:
I was now searching for a fast special attacker. I wanted something that could counter dragons that could trouble my team. I also wanted to eliminate Machamp’s checks and counters. Furthermore, with trick on its set, it could cripple anything that might be troubling. So, I reached Starmie and Porygon-Z. Seeing an an “overpopulation” of water pokemon, I opted for Porygon-Z. It’s a bit slower than Starmie, but with download and a higher special attack, it can hit a lot harder.
Infernape:
Seeing an obvious grass weakness, and lack of a fast physical attacker, I could not forget Infernape. It’s niche in leads made it a really good lead, hitting hard and scouting with U-Turn, as well as take away grasses so they didn’t check my 2 walls, Suicune and Hippodown.
Swampert:
Realizing how important infernape would be, I decided to take him away from his lead, and make him just a sweeper. As I was on the lookout for a lead, I decided that swampert can substitute Hippodown, still remain bulky and absorb electric attacks, while serving as a lead. It also brought phase support and SR. This also meant I could change ape into a Mix-Ape, providing more special attacking possibilities.
Flygon:
Noticing my weakness to Infernape and TTar, I decided that I should change Porygon-Z for another Scarf pokemon. My choice landed on Scarf FLygon, as it not only absorb electric attacks, but can also scout with U-Turn and keep various other pokemon in check.
Zapdos and Infernape:
After a few battles, I realized that once i changed from lead swampert, I really only had 2 bulky pokemon that could take some damage, machamp and suicune. Therefore, I wanted another bulky sweeper to replace my frailest of pokemon; Infernape. Enter Zapdos. I then decided to switch ape into my lead, and take away swampert, further decreasing my grass weakness.
Celebi:
Realizing I still had a rather large water weakness, or more like my team could be countered by waters such as vaporeon and swampert, I decided that It was time to bring in a grass pokemon. Celebi came right into my mind, as not only is it pretty versatile, it has great synergy with Suicune. Yet, I didn't know where to place it, as most other members we're pretty useful. Therefore, I decided to replace my LeadApe, the weakest link in all my team. Say helo to lead Celebi!
The Team:
Celebi @ Occa Berry
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 76 HP / 252 SATK / 180 SPD
Nature: Modest
- Stealth Rock
- U-Turn
- Leaf Storm
- Earth Power
As I needed a grass pokemon to counter my water resistance, only Celebi came to mind. It's a blessing, really, as lead celebi is not only a great lead, but it can come back mid game to take care of pesky waters making my life impossible. Also, it replaced my weakest link : infernape.
Machamp @ Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 56 ATK / 8 SPD / 192 SDEF
Nature: Adamant
- Dynamic Punch
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Payback
It’s a rather unorthodox Machamp. It’s a bulky Machamp, being able to take hits from the special spectrum amazingly well. Its DP hits hard and confuses, while Ice and Thunder punch provide Pseudo BoltBeam. Payback hurts ghosts hard, and is great for predicting a switch-in into a ghost (to try to evade Dynamic Punch). It has got a nice synergy with Gyarados, as whatever Gyarados can't hit for supper effective , such as water, Psychic and ghost, he can handle.
Taken from Smogon: "Countering Machamp"
Celebi and Cresselia are also good checks to Machamp. Being confused by DynamicPunch can be bothersome, but they can easily stall Machamp with Reflect. They can also hit it hard with STAB Psychic. Gliscor pretty much walls it if it lacks Ice Punch, and Gyarados is also a good switch-in thanks to Intimidate, as long as it doesn't have ThunderPunch or Stone Edge.
Meaning that my Machamp set runs attacks that are super effecctive on most Machamp counters, except for Slowbro.
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP / 72 ATK / 184 SPD / 96 DEF
Nature: Adamant
-Stone Edge
- Waterfall
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance
Gyarados is a great sweeper... It can easily have a 6-0 on unprepared teams. It can easily taunt walls away, then DD on the switch. It has great synergy with flygon, as flygon has a safe switch-in absorbing electric attacks aimed at gyarados.
Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 ATk / 252 SPD
Nature: Jolly
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Stone Edge
- U-Turn
FLygon's definitely a great revenge killer, but also has some pretty good synergy with my team. First of all, it's an electric absorber; greatly needed with suicune and Gyarados in the same team. It's great for scouting with U-Turn. Outrage is there to handle other dragons, which prove to be troublesome for my team due to a lack of ice attacks. Earthquake to take out those pesky steels, that wall a rather large part of my team.
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Bold
EVs: 248 HP / 228 DEF / 32 SPD
Nature: Naive
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- HP Ice
Zapdos has a great niche in my team, really. It provides a nice switch in as it's bulky enough and can easily restore damage from attack and SR with roost. It further aids my grass weakness, and is neutral to electric attacks. It helps to eliminate steels. It brings a much needed water checker, as those, such as vaporeon, could wall my team pretty easily before. HP[Ice] for pseudo bolt-beam combination, as well as a semi-check for gliscor, who is otherwise problematic.
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 DEF / 4 SPD
Nature: Bold
- Calm Mind
- Surf
- Sleep Talk
- Rest
Crocune has got to be Suicune’s best set. It’s an amazing wall; 404 HP with 360 Def, not to mentioned boosted special defence with CM. It can setup extremely easily, and then sweep away. Status will not affect it due to Rest. Rest+Sleep Talk covers Suicune’s downfall; lack of an instant recovery move. Another Gyarados counter, or at least keeps it in check as it can directly counter it.
That’s it, that’s my team. Please don’t recommend any HP moves, as they are extremely tedious to get in regular WiFi.
Threat List:
These are the pokemon that threaten my team."REDS" really threaten them, whereas "ORANGE" are still hard to counter, though less of a threat. Any other pokemon handled rather easily are not included here.
Gliscor: Zapdos
Kingdra: Zapdos? Celebi
Ninjask: Zapdos
Porygon-Z: Suicune
Rhyperior: Suicune
Snorlax: Machamp
Starmie: Machamp
Suicune: Celebi
Weavile: Machamp
Yanmega: Zapdos
