As you might have realized when this game wasn't posted like, 2 months after it was announced, the progress on this one isn't as fast as one might have hoped. But, I do intend on launching it, and as I said on IRC, this game will start before the following other events:
- Duke Nukem Forever
- Competitor
- shade remembering he ordered a pepperoni pizza
In other words, it's going to happen.
Right now, what I've done is mostly thinking, and not much doing. I've revised the fundamental concept of the game over and over again, and now I have something I'm pretty satisfied with. The goal of this game is to use the good elements of past games, and remove the bad ones. What are these exactly?
I can confirm that I will do its best to facilitate the following in my game:
- False claiming
- Moling
- Paranoia
- Money
- Negotiations
- Inventive, new and/or fresh role ideas
Things I'm trying to avoid:
- Timezone wars
- "Forum software" wars
- Overpowered roles
- Kingmaker situations
- Extremely harmful neutrals
- Extremely harmless neutrals
- Village vs mafia (vs mafia)
What can you do to speed up the completion of this intended masterpiece?
1. If you're reasonably good at mafia, but don't feel like playing, consider signing up to be my co-host! As you might know, porygon3 largely lost interest in IRC and is attending college soon enough. I mostly need someone to listen and give feedback. In the end, it's my game and I make the calls, but if you know me, I don't leave aside constructive criticism without a good reason. The dilemma I'm facing here is that I want as many good players to play as I can, so I'd feel sort of bad for dragging someone else out after porygon3 was already "cheated" out of it (though considering how much I changed the sheet, it's possible that he'll be able to play anyway). But yeah, if you're really looking forward to playing another big mafia game, then please don't sign up as a co host, we'll both regret it.
2. Have a creative role idea that you want me to use? Submit it to me privately, and I'll consider it. I still have some blanks that I would be able to fill in, but sometimes other people's ideas are nice as well. Try not to tell anyone else about this role idea though! Remember that Viva la Mafia used this submission option, and to my surprise I saw that someone else was given the role I submitted.
So yeah, there's progress so far. Hope you guys are as psyched as I am!
