My First (correct and thoughtful) RMT

So my team works as just a highly offensive OU team, with some support. I've done some Shoddy with it and I've noticed that it fairs pretty well. Please take a look. =]

Edits in green.

Thought Process:

So Scizor is probably my favorite Pokemon and there really isn't a better revenge killer, in my opinion, than him. He's not much to work a team around, but I knew I had to have him on my team.

Next, I needed to add a Stealth Rock lead, so I chose Heatran. He gets the job done, has Explosion if shit goes wrong, and provides my team, and Scizor most importantly, with good fire coverage.

I added Breloom next because I really wanted a star for my team, and I really feel like Breloom really gets the job done. His ability to support my team (fear switching the Spore) makes him incredibly offensive and a great threat, especially to Tyranitar who counters my Heatran.

Next, I wanted to add Empoleon as a Special Sweeper, even more so late-game due to his Petaya Berry. He also could counter opposing Heatran, providing a good switch for Breloom and Scizor.

After doing some Shoddy Battle, I just wasn't getting the results I wanted from Empoleon (or maybe I just wasn't using him right). Out of the battles I fought, he could maybe take one opposing Pokemon out, but also suicide himself, making him the perfect kamikaze. I decided to add a Tyranitar to my team before changing Empoleon for Togekiss and I found that it works nicely. Tyranitar covers Starmie and Gengar well (as does Scizor) but leaves me with a ground and fighting weakness, which is where Togekiss comes in. It can handle fighting-types well and also provides a much need EQ resist on my team.

Lastly, I added Vaporeon for the water-type coverage as well as having a wisher on my team for extra support.

I took the advice of Nosferalto and changed my Togekiss to a Gliscor and it's great. It takes Earthquakes and Fighting-type moves like a freaking pro. He's here to add resistance to my team basically.

In-Depth:

490.png

Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Timid / Flash Fire
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
~Fire Blast
~Stealth Rock
~Earth Power
~Explosion

Heatran's purpose is to put up a Stealth Rock and then either switch out, explode, or deal with their lead. After many of Shoddy Battle, I've found that it can deal with most OU leads except Swampert, so I switch out for him. I've found that he does surprisingly well against anti-lead Dragonite, 2HKOing them with Fire Blasts. Obviously, if he's still alive and I'm having trouble with a certain Pokemon, I'll explode on them, but that leaves me with a big problem on my team. See, I've found that when using him to Explode, I'm left without a Fire counter to two of my main sweeping Pokemon which really hurts me. It's made me contemplate whether Taunt is more beneficial, but right now I still run Explosion.

212.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Adamant / Technician
248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
~U-turn
~Bullet Punch
~Superpower
~Pursuit

Not much really to explain here since you all know how a CB Scizor works. I either go in for the revenge kill with Bullet Punch, U-turn scout, or scare/kill Gengar, Starmie, and other ghost/psychic Pokemon with Pursuit. I found his Pursuit to be a lot more threatening than Tyranitar's just because of the resistances Scizor has to almost anything that would be scared of his Pursuit.

286.png

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Jolly / Poison Heal
12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe
~Spore
~Focus Punch
~Seed Bomb
~Substitute

Oh how I love Breloom. Spore is so freaking deadly it's not even funny. What I usually do with my Breloom is switch him in on a counter and work from there. He's either going to stay in, take the Spore, switch out and take the Spore, or switch into something who can absorb it like Celebi. So far I haven't ran into someone who can absorb so I don't know how to handle that, but Breloom can go on a nice sweep of just sporing, killing, sporing killing, while obeying the ever so important Sleep Clause.

477.png

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Jolly / Sand Veil
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
~Taunt
~Earthquake
~Roost
~Ice Fang

Let it be said, Gliscor is above and beyond better than Togekiss. First off, he doesn't get owned by Sandstorm and gets the added evasion bonus with Sand Veil. After doing a lot of Shoddy with this team, Gliscor is excellent. I can switch into him reliably whenever someone tries to Fighting-type/EQ counter Scizor, Heatran, and Tyranitar and then strike back with Earthquake. I had been using Toxic over Ice Fang, but I just started using Ice Fang and I find it pretty good. It allows me to get rid of Dragon-types more reliably.

248.png

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Jolly / Sand Stream
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
~Stone Edge
~Crunch
~Pursuit
~Earthquake

Tyranitar, aside from being another sweeper and countering Fire Pokemon, adds to the whole strategy of my team and just swapping as much as possible. He's absolutely amazing for predict switching, especially on Physic or Ghosts who will just get raped by my Pursuit. Also, while Togekiss is handling Infernape, Ttar is taking Heatran on. With two of the most common fire-types nullified on my team, Tyranitar is whole-heartedly welcome.

134.png

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Bold / Water Absorb
188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe
~Wish
~Protect
~Surf
~Hidden Power Electric/Ice Beam

Vaporeon's job is pretty clear cut. She wishes other Pokemon or just Wish/Protect stalls herself so I can scout a little. She also is my water-type to handle threats accordingly, like Aerodactyl and other rock/ground types. The problem though is that I found I can't handle Gyarados or Kingdra well without Empoleon and his Ice Beam, although he wasn't that great at it to begin with. A weakness I see with my team is the lack of Dragon coverage, making me want to take Ice Beam over HP Electric, but with Gyarados so common in the OU tier, I think a 4x HP Electric would be way more appealing.

Thanks for reading my RMT!

Bump.

It's been more or less a day and I'm still curious as to what people's opinions might be. It's ok if no one wants to look at it.

I have noticed though that this team is working pretty well for me as I've been 6-0 on Shoddy with it.

The most evident problem with this team is the lack of a Fighting- type resist. With Tyranitar and Heatran on this team luring in Fighting- type moves, nothing will be able to switch-in without taking huge amounts of damage. Lead Machamp is definitely the threat this team doesn't want to encounter. In order to solve this Lead Machamp weakness, it would be beneficial to use a Choice Specs Heatran lead. Use the following moveset (Modest Nature): Overheat | Earthpower | HP Grass | Stealth Rock with 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe. Heatran can set-up SR reliably and OHKO Machamp with Overheat alleviating this Lead Machamp issue while also being useful mid-game.

As I already stressed, the lack of a Fighting- type resist is a huge issue. SD Lucario can set-up with ease on a choice-locked Pursuit and sweep without much retaliation especially if it has Bullet Punch to take out Tyranitar. Other than that, Agility Metagross with Thunder Punch is a also a big threat to this team along with Specs Jolteon. With all that being said, Gliscor instead of Togekiss is definitely something to consider. Gliscor resists Fighting- thanks to it's Flying- typing and is able to counter SD Lucario, Agil-Gross, Specs-Jolt. Go for: Taunt | Earthquake | Roost | U-Turn / Toxic with 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe and Leftovers as an item and a Jolly Nature. Gliscor gives you a useful weapon against stall with Taunt and also has excellent synergy with Scarf Tyranitar and Vaporeon, Vaporeon countering Gyarados that threaten it and Tyranitar switching into Taunt'ed Rotom-A to Pursuit. As for minor changes, 12 Speed EVs on Vaporeon will suffice to outspeed Scizor that invest 8 EVs in Speed, so just go 252 HP / 244 Def / 12 Spe

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try out both of the setups you guys recommend on Shoddy.

I'll report back soon. =]

Hi amagzz,

As others have noted, the lack of a Fighting type resist is quite troublesome; Fighting is a very common attacking type, and sweepers of that type (Lucario, Infernape) can potentially cause quite a lot of damage.

You are correct about sandstorm. Half your team takes damage from it, meaning that Togekiss will have it's health slowly drained, Vaporeon's Leftovers recovery is nullified, and Breloom doesn't get the full benefit from Poison Heal.

To alleviate this concern, and provide additional team options, try combining Scizor and Tyranitar with a Choice Scarf Scizor set:

212.png

Scizor @ Choice Scarf
Jolly Nature
12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe
Ability: Technician
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit

This set is quite new and very few people expect it currently. The result is that you can outspeed both Starmie and Gengar, and trap them with Pursuit before they can attack. Many opponents will also opt to have their Starmies stay in and Hydro Pump, thinking that you are the incredibly common Choice Band Scizor, only to be surprised with a swift OHKO by U-Turn.

Now that you have one spot open on your team, try out a SubSplit Gengar.

94.png

Gengar (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spe/252 SpA
Timid nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Pain Split
- Substitute

Your lack of Fighting resists now turns into an advantage of sorts, as Gengar gets multiple opportunities to switch in on one of its immunities. This set is also notable for being able to beat Blissey with a combination of Pain Split and Focus Blast, clearing the way for your special sweepers to cause more damage.

With your current Heatran set, the extremely common Anti-Lead Machamp is going to be causing problems for your team.

Other raters have suggested Choice Specs Heatran to remedy this, which is a good idea except for the fact that you are continuously locked into one attack. This set can also OHKO Lead Machamp, but with freedom to switch moves:

490.png

Heatran (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 174 HP/84 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Explosion
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Overheat
- Stealth Rock

Hidden Power Grass also OHKO's lead Swampert. This set was recommended by Phil, so I "borrowed" it to suggest for this RMT.

Good luck with your team!

I've tried out the set recommended by Faladran, but I'm finding some problems with it.

Choice Scarf/Jolly Scizor seems like overkill, at least for the purpose of my team and it's use of Scizor. He really only comes in on a counter that I know won't switch or to revenge kill. I can definitely see the merit of it being a more deadly threat for Starmie and Gengar, but I find some fault with it. Off the bat, it just seems like its hitting incredibly, incredibly weaker than my Choice Band Scizor. I know I'm losing a lot of +Attack from Adamant and CB, but this variant of Scizor just seems like it isn't that much of a threat to Hybrid-types that are weak to my attacks.

As for Gengar, I'm noticing, like everyone says, the frailty of this Pokemon. From the Shoddy I've done so far, he just gets nailed, even when switching and setting up on a Pokemon he counters. Maybe I'm playing him wrong, but he just gets destroyed. I'm going to try some Shoddy running Rotom-H and see how that goes, swapping him for my Gengar.

I do find success with the variant of Heatran recommend by both Faladran and Nos. It's quite deadly and still able to reliably set-up Stealth Rock.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I'm going to test swapping Gengar for Rotom-H now and report back my findings.

Hey there. pretty good team, though I have a few suggestions to make it better.

Problems
Life Orb Shaymin,Chesto Rest Kingdra, Offensive Suicune,

How they're threats
Ok so I haven't read the rates of the above posters yet, so some of these suggestions may be the same as theirs. Anyway, Life Orb Shaymin can come in on Vaporeon, and beging firing off powerful Seed Flares that dent everything on your team, not named Breloom, Scizor and Heatran. The former two are handled by Hidden Power Fire, while the latter is handled by Earth power after it has consumed its berry(highly likely since its in the lead spot). Kingdra can come in easily on Scizor's Bullet Punch or Vaporeon, set-up dragon dances, and sweep your team with a combination of Waterfall+Outrage. Hell, it even takes Spore from Breloom, if its Chesto Berry is still intact. Finally, Offensive Suicune can come in on Vaporeon, Scizor locked into Bullet Punch, Tyranitar locked into Pursuit, and Gliscor, set-up Calm Mind, and sweep your team between Hydro Pump+Ice beam+Hidden power Electric(your Vaporeon may try to hit it with Hidden power electric, but won't be doing much after a few CMs).

Solutions
Currently, I think a Scarf Rotom-W could possibly fit over Gliscor, as it brings the same immunities and resistances (Electric/Fight/Ghost) to the table, and is a better check to Swords dance Lucario and secondary Gyarados counter , can cripple Kingdra's set-up attempts with Trick and handle opposing Suicune with ThunderBolt. Of course, you have to be cautious when playing this Rotom set, and will have to scout for Scarf Tyranitar early game, but the same can be said about any choice locked Rotom Forme.

Here's the set:
(Rotom-h) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 200 HP/56 SAtk/252 Spe
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Trick
- Shadow Ball
- Hydro Pump

Now for the Life Orb Shaymin Weakness, I suggest you try Life Orb Flygon (specially based) over your current Scarf tyranitar, as having two scarf users with similar purposes is kind of pointless imo. Max Speed Flygon guarantees you win the Speed tie vs. Hidden Power Fire Shaymin (since they have a speed IV of 30), if they don't have hidden power fire, then Scizor can handle them effectively, otherwise go to Flygon. Flygon is also a reliable Stall Breaker, as Breloom alone is not good enough an answer vs stall.

Here's the set for Life Orb Flygon
(Flygon) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Satk/252 Spe
Naive nature (+Spd, -Sdef)
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Roost

Thats all I got, GL
