Baibanira

...They don't pay me enough to make me write about this thing...

GOD WHY DOES IT ONLY KNOW ICE MOVES THAT'S RETARDED! But it looks so delicious. ;_;

[Overview]
  • 110 Special Attack stat, which is pretty good with STAB Ice Beam. It even has an "acceptable" 95 base Attack stat.
  • Learns Body Purge, which increases its Speed sharply. With a Modest nature, we're looking at 514 Speed. This outspeeds positive base 105s that hold a Choice Scarf; making it impressive Speed-wise.
  • Learns Weather Ball, which makes it great for weather teams.
  • Ice-type makes it weak to Stealth Rock and a bajillion of types.
  • Its movepool is severely lacking.
[SET]
name: Body Purge
move 1: Body Purge
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Hidden Power Electric / Hidden Power Ground
move 4: Weather Ball
item: Life Orb
nature: Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Set Comments:
  • Outspeeds Scarf Garchomp after a Body Purge.
  • STAB Ice Beam is pretty good at least offensively. Many Pokemon are weak to the attack as is in the base 100 Speed and above category with Hidden Power Electric covering some of the resisters.
  • Hidden Power Ground is still a decent option to consider. It shuts down Scarf Heatran while having an easier time dealing with Steel- and Fire-types in general.
  • Weather Ball will likely be Rock-type with Sandstorm being very common; however, with Groudon and Kyogre unbanned at the moment it can become a Water- or Fire-type move. Even with it becoming a Rock-type move, it isn't that bad.
Additional Comments:
  • It can run some physical attacks since Life Orb helps them become acceptable. Explosion gives it a last-minute attack.
  • 116 Speed EVs can be moved into Attack if you want. It still outspeeds Scarf Garchomp after a Body Purge.
Teammates & Counters:
  • Pack Dugtrio. Seriously, many of the Pokemon that Ice Beam fails against Dugtrio can pick up that slack. Infernape, Starmie, and Baokki are good examples.
  • Get any Pokemon that has weather behind this guy. Kyogre, Groudon, Tyranitar, or Hippowdon.
  • Lucario can switch into Ice Beam and damage Baibanira with STAB Vacuum Wave.
  • Kyogre switches into Hidden Power Ground variants and can set up Calm Mind against Baibanira or crush it with Rain-boosted STAB Surfs.
  • Scizor resists its main STAB, can switch into most of its attacks barring Weather Ball boost and tears Baibanira to shreds with STAB Technician Bullet Punch.
  • Tyranitar can survive two Ice Beams at full health and KO it back with Stone Edge.
  • Without Weather, Baibanira is screwed offensively in some ways. For example, its Ice-type bretheren can even counter it so long as they aren't weak to the Hidden Power and possibly carry a super effective attack.
  • Blissey.
[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Ice Beam
move 2: Hidden Power Electric
move 3: Weather Ball
move 4: Water Pulse / Flash Cannon
item: Choice Specs
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Set Comments:
  • 525 Special Attack after Choice Specs, 418 if Timid.
  • STAB Ice Beam is your main attack, with Hidden Power Electric to keep Water-types at bay.
  • Weather Ball allows it to function in many kinds of weather.
  • Water Pulse is for Fire-types when Weather Ball isn't Water-type. Flash Cannon hits Tyranitar.
Additional Comments:
  • Choice Scarf can be used, but its movepool is so limited.
  • Explosion also works here for a last resort attack.
Teammates & Counters:
  • Scizor only fears Weather Ball and trounces Baibanira with Bullet Punch.
  • Scarf Tyranitar can switch into Ice Beam and KO Baibanira with Stone Edge.
  • Offensive Kyogre outspeed Baibanira most of the time and shuts it down with STAB Surf. Beware of Hidden Power Electric.
  • Blissey.
  • Lucario can outspeed Modest Baibanira and KO it with Close Combat.
[Team Options]
  • Weather-based Pokemon are necessary. Kyogre, Groudon, Hippowdon, and Tyranitar are your choices. Kyogre works best with the first set since it shuts down Scarf Heatran with Weather Ball.
  • Dugtrio can shut down some of the Pokemon that resist Ice Beam.
  • Magnezone also isn't bad for taking out some of the annoying Steel-types.
  • Stealth Rock; especially for the first set.
  • Rapid Spin user would be helpful. Life Orb Starmie is a good choice since it is offensive to bust through Ghosts. Doryuuzu works as well.
[Other Options]
  • Explosion was noted often. Good move for a filler option if you want your Ice Cream to explode.
  • It learns Rain Dance, but with permanent weather "why bother?"
  • Physical Moves include Ice Shard, Icicle Spear, and Return. It's pretty lacking here too.
  • Taunt and Light Screen are also options, but with its terrible typing and lack of Reflect there are better Pokemon who can use those attacks.
[Counters]
  • It's weak to Fighting-, Rock-, Steel-, and Fire-type moves
  • Tyranitar can take two Ice Beams (barring from Specs which is iffy) and OHKOes with Stone Edge.
  • Kyogre can switch into Specs that isn't locked onto Hidden Power Electric and set up Calm Minds.
  • Naive Infernape takes 49.1% - 58.4% from Life Orb Ice Beam and blast Baibanira down into the ground with either of its STABs.
  • Lucario resists Ice Beam at the very least. It can revenge kill with STAB Vacuum Wave.
  • Roobushin can also revenge kill Baibanira with STAB Mach Punch.
  • Blissey, as always, will counter this set. Just watch out for the surprise Life Orb Explosion.
  • Scizor knocks it down a peg with STAB Bullet Punch, resists Ice Beam, and has access to Roost. Beware of Fire-type Weather Ball.
[Dream World]
  • Baibanira gets Breakable Armor as an ability.
  • It's probably the main ability that could be practiced on both sets, but considering that any super effective physical attack will OHKO it and its counters will hit it super effectively regardless (or force it out like Blissey), it's not that great of an ability.

Done. This was pretty easy since it lacks so much. If we want Choice Scarf up there as a main set, I can put it in. I just feel with its lacking movepool it doesn't look good, and once Kyogre and Groudon are hopefully banned, Weather Ball is likely going to be Rock-type. I didn't mention Blizzard and Ice Body's effects because it really should avoid Hail as it simply nullifies the reason to use Weather Ball, or Babanira in general.
