Golduck (Lead)

Tested quite a bit and amazing. Maybe it could have a remotely interesting name.

With permission, I would like to call this set "Leading Duck."

Golduck

[SET]

name: Lead
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Hidden Power Grass
move 3: Aqua Jet
move 4: Encore
item: Focus Sash
Ability: Cloud Nine
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe

why this set should be on sight

-One of the strongest Hydro Pumps in UU
-Can easily finish off frail pokemon with Aqua Jet
-Can Encore stealth rock or a screen to get a free turn
-Can stop spike-stacking with Yawn
-Hidden Power Grass destroys Quagisire and does good damage to water types
-Will not get it's sash broken due to Cloud Nine.

additional comments

-Magic Coat to beat sleep inducers
-Lum Berry does the same to a lesser extent
-Light Screen
-Damp can prevent Explosion which is best found in leading
-Life Orb
-Maybe Yawn

Ok thanks. If there any changes feel free to edit them into your post (or post again, just thinking edits are more efficient). Also, I was thinking about a Rash nature if using Focus Sash to make up for the loss in power for Aqua Jet maybe? Just a theorymon.

Logs n' Stuff will be added to the original post ASAP (or here possibly)

EDIT- Here are the Logs n' Stuff. It made the OP look a bit messy, so they are here.

Logs, calcs, and all those other fun things you won't read. The important parts will be in Navy Blue.

I don't have any qualms with this set, but I'm a bit confused as to what it is supposed to do. Is it an Anti-lead? Is it an attacking lead? Is it an Anti-Weather lead? It'd be nice if you could say what this is supposed to accomplish.

Does Ice Beam actually accomplish anything specific besides Torterra? Because if so, Torterra leads aren't exactly common, and IIRC are 2HKO'ed by Hydro Pump anyway. You should remove it and put HP Grass there, as it murders the ever common Omastar leads. Also, Damp isn't a great ability in UU, Explosion isn't exactly common even on leads, and Cloud Nine will stop Rain Dance teams from setting up early in the match. I'd remove the mention of it, honestly.

Will there is a choice actually. Damp does stop Qwilfish, but thats not as common as the others I guess, so yea I think Cloud Nine should be the primary slash.

Also, would a bulkier spread be possible?

Alright i have been testing this out for a while and Ice Beam didn't do much. Replace Ice Beam with HP Grass. Doing this will allow you to both destroy OMaster, and Cloyster while also being able to run Encore in the last slot.

I second (or third) the notion of replacing Ice Beam with HP Grass and Encore in the last slot. This Golduck does what it is supposed well (for me), but can't do much else. It's nigh impossible to bring back in later in the match. Its purpose isn't to come back in, just to lead, but there's nothing wrong with going above and beyond.

Anyway, this is a good anti-lead/anti-weather lead, and definitely doesn't fail in its duties.

Yeah I 4th the above^

But asides from that I love the set (even more considering it one of my favourite Pokes and definetly deserves more usage)

I will be battling with it on Pokelba soon and hopefully provide some logs

[Space for logs show/hide tab]

Also, teammates and counters?

Lol, HP Grass it is. Also, whoever mentioned what Golduck is supposed to do: The goal of this set is the defeat common leads in UU without a scratch (or if they attack you, they don't get stealth rock). Mostly to stop early-game setup or start yourself up with a nice 6-5 lead. Also Golduck can come in later in the game and Encore things like Clefable, Chansey, Spiritomb, etc.

edit: Put Life Orb in the AC because Focus Sash isn't broken by Weather, making it the superior choice.

double edit: I saw a few more things so I will address them one by one.

@Bartman101: Thanks for the nice comments, and your fourth is now been added to the set.

@SlimMan: thanks again for the nice comments.

@The Cicada: read above lol.

@EonADS: onnce again, changed =/

@Sensible: I gave a responce to your's above.

I'm not sold on this. This lead doesn't really do anything. It can't really prevent entry hazards from being set up, and it can't set up its own entry hazards (or anything else). There's nothing wrong with a lead that just attacks, but Golduck is fairly weak and walled rather easily, especially considering in this case, it's only utilizing two-move coverage.

Now that I think about it, your right about not being able to stop setup, but it's niche is being able to KO leads, not stop them from setting up I guess.

Some of these calcs might show you Golduck's power

Golduck get's quite a few more KOs with Life Orb than Focus Sash though, so that might be the primeare slash. these calcs are all Life Orb.

Hydro Pump on 0/4 Ambipom: 108.2% - 127.8% (OHKO)
Hydro Pump on 252/4 Uxie: 50.3% - 59.6% (2HKO)
Hydro Pump on 52/0 Mesprit: 68.8% - 81.2% (2HKO)
Hydro Pump on 252/252 +nature Registeel: 33.2% - 39.6% (4HKO with Leftovers, 3HKO with Occa Berry, Shed Shell, or whatever)
Hydro Pump on 0/4 Scyther: 96.4% - 113.5% (Very high chance to OHKO)

So I'm sorry, but I will have to disagree that Golduck is "Weak." Although it does fail to block hazards, it's still a very good pokemon to lead with. But seriously, it 2HKOs Uxie!

Ambipom Fake Outs and U-Turns, Scyther U-Turns, and everything else sets up their hazards and switches. Golduck is still walled fairly easily, and the point of a pure attacking lead is to maintain pressure on an opponent through coverage and power. There is a reason why there aren't many pure-attacking UU leads (notice that most offensive leads run either hazards or Taunt). Aside from Scyther, who has U-turn to preserve momentum, Moltres is the only one I can think off of the top of my head, and its usage has been steadily declining.

For these reasons, I am going to reject this set, sorry.

QC Rejected 1/2

Ok. Thanks anyway though, you gave your reasons and you have every right to reject =). Assuming everyone is going to agree with you, I would like this locked please.

-Charmander-, when you assume things...... you know the saying, I'm sure. Wait for it to be rejected twice before locking. :(

=/ I played with the set some more and it was horrible. QC members are smart enough to know this set isn't up to par. Blastoise is probably a better alternative, and the set is already on-sight. Furthermore, if anyone actually approves this set, I would not like to write the analysis.

This set is by no means horrible terrible, but it just has to face the things Eo mentioned and doesn't really excel as an anti-lead, sorry.
