Hi C&C. Here is my Hoppip analysis which I have just finished. Without further ado, lets take a look at it!

http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/hoppip/moves

[Overview]

Hoppip is rarely seen in Little Cup due to its combination of low base stats and poor typing. However, Hoppip has a great support movepool, which includes Encore, Sleep Powder, and Memento. Hoppip may not seem immediately threatening, but don't let that cute face fool you. Underestimating Hoppip's supporting prowess can easily lead to your team's demise at the hands of one of its teammates.

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Encore
move 2: Sleep Powder / Substitute
move 3: Stun Spore / Leech Seed
move 4: U-turn
item: Oran Berry
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With this moveset, Hoppip can support the team by scouting the opposition, while crippling a few of their Pokemon along the way. Encore is the crux of this set. Hoppip can easily switch into a non-damaging move, and proceed to Encore, forcing the opponent to switch. When the opponent switches, Hoppip can then cripple the switch-in with Sleep Powder, rendering it useless. At this point, the opponent is most likely going to switch out again, so you have a choice of using either Leech Seed, to gain some health back, or using U-turn, to scout the switch-in and procure some offensive momentum. Oran Berry allows Hoppip to recover health, and is very useful in prolonging Hoppip’s ability to stall.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Hoppip greatly benefits from sunlight, which doubles its Speed to 30, allowing it to more effectively do its job. Substitute can be used over Sleep Powder to ease prediction, and works well in tandem with Leech Seed to slowly stall out the opponent’s health. Choice Scarf Pokemon with U-turn pair well with Hoppip. Since Sleep Powder and Stun Spore will be forcing lots of switches, Pokemon with U-turn can effectively scout the opponent's team.

[SET]
name: Sunny Day
move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: Memento / U-turn
move 4: Encore
item: Heat Rock
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

The biggest advantages that Hoppip has over other Sunny Day users are Sleep Powder and Memento. Sleep Powder allows Hoppip to gain a free turn to set up Sunny Day while putting an opposing Pokemon out of commission. Memento is a great move that lets Hoppip effectively make the opponent's Pokemon weakened by halving both their attacking stats, while also giving a completely safe switch-in to a Sunny Day sweeper, as well as six more turns of sunlight to abuse. Finally, Encore allows Hoppip to force switches after having put an opposing Pokemon to sleep.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Pokemon that benefit from Sunny Day are obvious teammates. Any Pokemon with the ability Chlorophyll or a Fire-type attack, such as Bellsprout, Oddish, and Cyndaquil, is a good teammate for Hoppip. Furthermore, they can now use the powerful SolarBeam without a turn of charging up. Flash Fire Pokemon get a special mention because sunlight benefits the opponent’s Fire-type attacks as well. To defend against the opponent's Fire-type attacks, Flash Fire Pokemon can come in handy to easily absorb the blows while receiving a boost to their own Fire-type moves.

name: Lead
move 1: Sleep Powder
move 2: Memento
move 3: Encore
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Hoppip can beat many common leads by putting them to sleep with Sleep Powder, then using Memento on the switch-in, allowing easy setup for your next Pokemon. If you stray from this method though, then Hoppip can also Encore an opponent, forcing it to repeatedly use a non-threatening move or switch. This lets Hoppip stay useful mid-game, if it survives, after having put another Pokemon to sleep. Protect allows Hoppip to preserve its Focus Sash from the common Fake Out leads of Little Cup.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Hoppip's goal is to incapacitate the opponent in numerous ways to help its teammates set up. Setup sweepers and Pokemon with U-turn make good teammates. Setup sweepers can generally set up without danger, while U-turn allows you to scout the opponent's switch-in, giving you the momentum to more easily switch Hoppip in. Substitute Houndour makes a great teammate, having good synergy, and being able to set up Substitute before firing off powerful STAB attacks. Swords Dance Gligar is quite bulky already, and with the help from Memento, it can set up a Swords Dance even more easily, allowing it to destroy many teams with its power. Agility Mantyke is also a good teammate, as it greatly benefits from Memento to help it set up and proceed to do tons of damage to the opponent.

[Team Options]

Fire-types that can set up Sunny Day help Hoppip, if it does not have Sunny Day itself, by doubling its Speed via Chlorophyll. Moreover, most Fire-types such as Ponyta, Growlithe, Houndour, and Vulpix have the ability Flash Fire, allowing them to absorb Fire-type attacks aimed at Hoppip and begin firing off boosted Fire Blasts. They have great synergy together; Hoppip can absorb Ground- and Water-type attacks for them, while they can take Ice- and Fire-type attacks for Hoppip. Vulpix also has access to Hypnosis, reducing the necessity of Sleep Powder on Hoppip's moveset.

[Optional Changes]

On the Support set, Synthesis can be used as a form of instant recovery. As a bonus, Synthesis becomes more effective in the sun, allowing Hoppip to stall even longer. Protect can also be used so Hoppip can gain more health from Leech Seed. If Protect is used, Leftovers becomes a viable option, as in two turns, Hoppip will usually heal about 6 HP. U-turn can be an alternative on the Lead set to scout the opponent's team without having to sacrifice Hoppip, but Memento is usually the better option. Reflect can be used on the Support and Sunny Day sets to provide a Defense boost for Hoppip and its teammates.

[Counters]

Hoppip outspeeds almost every Pokemon in sunlight, and can stall against most of them. As such, Pokemon that can remove sunlight are great counters. Snover and Hippopotas can easily check it by changing the weather just by switching in, making Hoppip much less of a threat. The change in weather also means Hoppip's teammates cannot benefit from the sunlight either. Pokemon that have access to Ice Shard such as Snover, Swinub and Phanpy do great against Hoppip, knocking it out unless it has a Substitute up. Mankey can switch in on Sleep Powder thanks to Vital Spirit and threaten Hoppip with Ice Punch. Taunt beats Hoppip almost completely, because all of its moves other than U-Turn are shut down by it.

Fuck yes Hoppip.

I've used this set for a while, it got me pretty high on the ladder.

name: Sacrificial Lead
move 1: Encore
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: Memento
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 196 Spe

Out of the top ten leads, it gets off Sleep Powder+Memento on all but Snover and Voltorb (and Houndour I guess) (and Mankey, but you can Protect to see what it's locked into, then act accordingly). After that, you can get a nearly-guaranteed free turn of setup.

It's pretty damn awesome.

Also, Stun Spore should be the first option in the third slot. Leech seed really isn't that great in lc, what with low hp numbers and offensive/defensive bias and meh bulk etc.

Also, mention Mankey in counters, since it's immune to Sleep Powder, Hoppip's main form of making things not kill it, and has Ice Punch.

Thanks Darkamber8828 for the suggestion. I have added your set, replacing my old Sunny Day set because I think yours is better. Does it look okay?
Why would you replace a set with another set that has a completely different goal and is good in its own merits?

It's a really great set, I like the idea that you are using the ability to the fullest, and on some of your sets, supporting and building up using Memento and Sunny Day for certain setup pokemon who benefit from the sun, I could really see this set setting up for some other pokemon and sweep easily.

Good Job.

you should mention Houndour and Growlithe as prime teammates for the sunny day set. They both absorb any fire-type attack aimed at Hoppip, resist Ice-type attacks, and work very well in the sun.

In these three sets, the attacking move(s) are:
- U-turn

In these three sets, the non-attacking move(s) are:
- Encore
- Sleep Powder
- Substitute.
- Stun Spore
- Leech Seed
- Sunny Day
- Memento
- Protect

See how badly Taunt screws this over :P? Yes I know Taunt isn't very common in LC. But it is a major threat to Hoppip who's purpose in life is to support, so i think it deserves a mention.

This analysis seems rushed to me. It would probably be good if you would put more information in there coz it kinda seems lacking (no offense). Focusing on one analysis at a time instead of doing five at once could help you in doing this, as working with multiple pokes really tends to jumble up information and make you less inclined to invest yourself.

[Overview]

Hoppip is rarely seen in Little Cup due to a combination of low base stats and poor typing. However, when given the right support, Hoppip can be a great Pokemon. However, Hoppip's access to great supporting moves such as Encore, Sleep Powder, and Memento lets it play the role of a great supporting Pokemon. Hoppip itself may not be seem immediately threatening, but don't let that that cute face fool you. Underestimating Hoppip's supporting prowess can easily lead to your team's demise at the hands of one of its teammates. but the teammates that benefit from Hoppip's support could greatly threaten the opposing team. Overall, Hoppip is a Pokemon that opponents must watch out for, because no matter what its job is, it does it well.

Hoppip supports the team greatly by scouting the opponent’s team opposition, while crippling a few team members Pokemon along the way. Encore is the crux of the setwhat makes this set viable. Hoppip can easily switch in to a non-damaging move, and proceed to Encore. When the opponent switches out, Hoppip can then cripple the switch-in with Sleep Powder. Oran Berry allows Hoppip to recover health, and is very useful, extending as it prolongs Hoppip’s stalling abilities capability.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Hoppip greatly benefits from Sunlight, as it doubles its Speed, allowing it to properly support and scout the team. Substitute can also be used over Sleep Powder to ease prediction even further, and works in tandem with Leech Seed to slowly stall out the opponent’s health. {Your AC needs a lot more substance. What Pokemon does Hoppip tend to lure? What teammates benifit from having those Pokemon put out of commision? What speed does Hoppip reach with the given EVs? Don't just take the easy way out and state the obvious in your Additional Comments.}

move 4: Encore

[SET COMMENTS]

The biggest advantage that Hoppip has over other Sunny Day users is Sleep Powder and Memento. Sleep Powder means allows you get a free turn to set up Sunny Day while putting an opposing Pokemon out of commision. Memento is a great move, that allows Hoppip to effectively make the opponent's Pokemon useless by lowering halving both their Attack and Special Attack stat, which can help create a safe switch to a Sunny Day sweeper. meaning the Pokemon that will come in will take very little damage. This Memento also means allowsHoppip's teammates can to benefit from six turns of Sunlight more often than not. Encore is chosen in the last slot to be able to force switches when Sleep Clause is in effect. should probably be the last move, allowing Hoppip to Encore any set up move.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Pokemon who benefit from Sunny Day are obvious teammates. Any Pokemon with the ability Chlorophyll, or have Fire attacks will greatly benefit from Sunny Day, and therefore make great teammates with Hoppip. Pokemon such as Bellsprout and Oddish have decent offensive stats but would greatly benefit from the sunlight because of their low speed which is doubled in sunlight. Furthermore, they can use Solarbeam to hurt the opponent, without a turn of charging up. {Again, more substance}

move 2: Memento
move 3: Encore
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Hoppip is a great lead that beats most many other common leads by putting them to sleep with Sleep Powder, and by then consequently using Memento on the switch-in. Sleep Powder is a must, allowing Hoppip to beat almost any lead by incapacitating them for a few turns. Memento allows Hoppip to scout and safely bring in another teammate to safely set up entry hazards or try and procure an early sweep. After Hoppip has used Sleep Powder, the opponent will most likely switch, so the next Pokemon who comes in will have both their attacking stats harshy lowered. {Already said this} Hoppip can also Encore an opponent and force it to use a non threatening move. This lets Hoppip stay useful toward the middle of the game if it survives and has already put another Pokemon to sleep; it also allows it to easily Memento late game if it so chooses. to get a few turns of free set up, especially if the opponent went for a non-attacking move. Fake Out leads who can easily break opposing lead's Focus Sash will lose to Hoppip thanks to Protect.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Since Hoppip's goal is to help its teammates hurt the opponent as much as possible {That's not really Hoppip's goal. Hoppip's goal is to incapacitate the opponent in numerous ways in order to help teammates set up}, while also supporting them by having them take less damage, set up sweepers and Pokemon with U-turn are helpful. Set up sweepers allow set up without danger, while U-turn allows you to scout the opponent's switch-in, giving you momentum. Substitute Houndour makes a great teammate, having good synergy, and being able to set up Substitute, before firing off powerful STAB attacks.
{Name specific set up sweepers that pair well with this set}

[Team Options]

A Fire type who Fire-types that can set up Sunny Day helps Hoppip a lot by doubling its speed via Chlorophyll. Ponyta, Growlithe, Houndour and Vulpix get a special mention because they all have the ability Flash Fire, allowing them to absorb Fire-type attacks lured by Hoppip, and begin firing off boosted Fire Blasts. They also have great synergy together. Hoppip takes the can also absorb Ground- and Water-type attacks for the Fire-types, while the Fire-types can take Ice-type attacks for Hoppip., and being able to benefit greatly from the sunlight Hoppip provides. Vulpix does the job especially well, having the ability being able to sleep the opponent put opponents to sleep via Hypnosis, thereby freeing up making Sleep Powder unnecessary to have in Hoppip’s moveset. All three Fire-types have great synergy with Hoppip, being able to take Fire and Ice attacks for Hoppip, while Hoppip takes the Ground and Water attacks for the Fire type Pokemon. {Already said this} A Pokemon such as like Agility Mantyke is a good teammate to for Hoppip, as it greatly benefits from Memento in setting up. to abuse Memento. Mantyke can easily set up on the opponent when their attacking stats are halved, and proceed to do lots of damage to the opponent.

[Optional Changes]

On the Support set, Synthesis can be used to heal 2/3 of Hoppip’s health in Sunlight, allowing it to stall longer with Leech Seed. Protect can also be used in the second slot so you can gain more health from Leech Seed. If Protect is used, Leftovers becomes a viable option, as in two turns, Hoppip will usually heal around 6 HP. U-turn can be an option on the Sacrificial Lead set to scout the opponent's team without having to sacrifice Hoppip, but Memento is usually the better option to assist so that a set up sweepers in setting up. can safely set up and then hurt the opponent's team. Lastly, Reflect can be used on the Support and Sunny Day sets to provide a further Defense boost for its teammates.

[Counters]

Hoppip outspeeds almost every Pokemon in Sunlight and can stall against most of them, meaning your best option is to either stall for the Sunlight out for the 5 turns (8 turns if the Sunny Day user had Heat Rock) or simply change the weather completely. Snover and Hippopotas are both great counters, removing Sunlight immediately, thereby making Hoppip much less of a threat. The change of in weather also means Hoppip's teammates cannot benefit from the sunlight either. Pokemon who have access to Ice Shard such as Snover, Swinub and Phanpy will do great against Hoppip, knocking it out unless Hoppip has a Substitute up. Mankey can switch into Sleep Powder thanks to Vital Spirit and threaten Hoppip with Ice Punch. Taunt beats Hoppip completely, because almost all its moves are shut down by it. Hoppip cannot do anything but U-turn out, which is not Hoppip's goal.

Regardless, deleted the off-topic posts. Don't spark another one.

Ok Colonel

Also, ShinyAzelf, For your support set, do you really need both Spore and Stun Spore on the same set, I know it's a bit late, but, after you cripple the opponent, you're just gonna U-turn to a Setup sweeper, it's not like you're going to sit there and wait for the switch in...

ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

The biggest advantages that Hoppip has over other Sunny Day users is Sleep Powder, and Memento. Sleep Powder allows you to get a free turn to set up Sunny Day while putting an opposing Pokemon out of commission, and Memento is a great move that allows Hoppip to effectively make the opponent's Pokemon useless by halving both their attacking stats, while giving a completely safe switch-in to a Sunny Day sweeper, as well as 6 more turns of sunlight to burn. Finally, Encore is in the last slot so that Hoppip is still able to force switches after Sleep Clause is in effect. p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Pokemon who benefit from Sunny Day are obvious teammates. Any Pokemon with the ability Chlorophyll, or have a Fire-type attack will work, and make great teammates with Hoppip. Pokemon such as Bellsprout and Oddish, that have decent offensive stats and Chlorophyll, would greatly benefit from the sunlight because of their low speed. Furthermore, they can now use the powerful Solarbeam, without a turn of charging up. Flash Fire Pokemon get special mention as teammates, because sunlight benefits the opponent’s Fire-type attacks as well. With Flash Fire, a Pokemon can easily absorb these, and recieve an additional boost themselvs.

move 2: Memento
move 3: Encore
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Hoppip can beats many common leads by putting them to sleep with Sleep Powder, incapacitating them, and then using Memento on the switch-in, once again allowing easy set up for your next Pokemon. If you stray from this method though, Hoppip can also Encore an opponent and force it to repeatedly use a non threatening move, and have to switch. This lets Hoppip stay useful towards mid-game, if it survives, and has already put another Pokemon to sleep. Protect allows Hoppip to beat the common Fake Out leads of Little Cup, by protecting on the Fake Out, and preserving its Focus Sash.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Hoppip's goal is to incapacitate the opponent in numerous ways to help its teammates set up, while also having them take less damage, set up sweepers and Pokemon with U-turn are helpful. Set up sweepers on Hoppip's team, are generally allowed to set up without danger, while U-turn allows you to scout the opponent's switch-in, giving you the momentum to more easily switch Hoppip itself in. Substitute Houndour makes a great teammate, having good synergy, and being able to set up Substitute, before firing off powerful STAB attacks. Swords Dance Gligar is quite bulky already, and with the help from Memento, will get up a Swords Dance even more easily, possibly getting in another one even, destroying many teams with its power. Agility Mantyke is also a good teammate, as it greatly benefits from Memento to help it in setting up, and proceed to do lots of damage to the opponent.

[Team Options]

Fire-types that can set up Sunny Day help Hoppip, when it is not setting it up itself, by doubling its speed via Chlorophyll. Ponyta, Growlithe, Houndour and Vulpix all also have the ability Flash Fire, allowing them to absorb Fire-type attacks aimed at Hoppip, and begin firing off boosted Fire Blasts. They have great synergy together, Hoppip can absorb Ground- and Water-type attacks for them, while they can take Ice- and Fire-type attacks for Hoppip. Vulpix also has access to Hypnosis, to reduce the necessity of Sleep Powder on Hoppip's moveset, freeing it up.

[Optional Changes]

On the Support set, Synthesis can be used as a form of instant recovery that is more effective in the sun to allow Hoppip to stall even longer. Protect can also be used so you can gain more health from Leech Seed. If Protect is used, Leftovers becomes a viable option, as in two turns, Hoppip will usually heal around 6 HP. U-turn can be an option on the Lead set to scout the opponent's team without having to sacrifice Hoppip, but Memento is usually the better option. Reflect can be used on the Support and Sunny Day sets to provide a Defense boost for its teammates.

[Counters]

Hoppip outspeeds almost every Pokemon in sunlight, and can stall against most of them. Therefore, Snover and Hippopotas can easily check it, by changing the weather just by switching in, making Hoppip much less of a threat. The change in weather also means Hoppip's teammates cannot benefit from the sunlight either. Pokemon who have access to Ice Shard such as Snover, Swinub and Phanpy will do great against Hoppip, knocking it out unless it has a Substitute up. Mankey can switch in on Sleep Powder thanks to Vital Spirit, and threaten Hoppip with Ice Punch. Taunt beats Hoppip almost completely, because almost all of its moves, besides U-turn, are shut down by it.

[Overview]

Hoppip is rarely seen in Little Cup due to a combination of low base stats, and poor typing. However, Hoppip has a great support movepool, which includes Encore, Sleep Powder, and Memento, letting it play the role of a support Pokemon admirably. Hoppip itself may not seem immediately threatening, but don't let that that cute face fool you. Underestimating Hoppip's supporting prowess can easily lead to your team's demise, at the hands of one of its teammates

[SET COMMENTS]

Hoppip supports the team by scouting the opposition, while crippling a few of their Pokemon along the way. Encore is the crux of this set. Hoppip can easily switch into a non-damaging move, and proceed to Encore, forcing the opponent to switch. When the opponent does, Hoppip can then cripple the switch-in with Sleep Powder, rendering it useless.

Hoppip greatly benefits from sunlight, as it doubles its Speed, allowing it to more effectively do its thing, reaching a blistering 30 Speed under it.
