Wooper (Analysis)

The (not so) long-awaited Wooper analysis

[Overview]

Wooper has mediocre stats all across the board, but it somewhat remedied by its fairly large movepool. However, even though it has perfect coverage, it still it very weak, and will not be hitting hard even with “super effective” attacks. With the correct support, Wooper can hold itself in battle, and ultimately is not completely useless.

[SET]
name: Trick Room Sweeper
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Waterfall / Aqua Tail
move 3: Return
move 4: Ice Punch
item: Life Orb
nature: Brave
evs: 76 HP / 236 Atk / 76 Def / 76 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Utilizing its only usable stat, along with its extremely low Speed, allows it to function decently has a Trick Room sweeper. Earthquake is its most powerful attack, gaining STAB, and hitting most Pokemon reasonably hard. Waterfall is Wooper’s secondary STAB, and when paired up with Return, hits every Pokemon in the tier for at least neutral damage. Ice Punch is utilized to hit it's only weakness, Grass-types, and also to hit Flying-types. Using Life Orb is a necessity, since using it secures certain OHKOs and 2HKOes.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Utilizing Brave nature increases Wooper's mediocre Aattack, allowing it to nab certain OHKOes and 2HKOes, while allowing it to outrun almost all Pokemon under Trick Room. The EVs are doctored to maximizes Attack, and to increase HP, Defense and Special Defense by one point. Aqua Tail can be used instead of Waterfall for more power, but the loss of accuracy is a let down, and Waterfall's occasional flinch may come in handy.

[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Ice Punch / Stockpile
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Recover
item: Oran Berry
nature: Impish
evs: 236 HP / 76 Atk / 156 Def

[SET COMMENTS]
-This set attempts to utilize Wooper's resistances and 2 immunities to work as a defensive Pokemon
-Earthquake is Wooper's primary STAB and to cause decent damage to most Pokemon in the tier
-Ice Punch is used as an extra move for coverage
-Toxic is used to cripple majority of Pokemon in the tier
-Recover is used to increase Wooper's longevity

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
-Impish nature is utilized to maximize Wooper's bulk
-Stockpile can be utilized instead of Ice Punch to increase the amount of bulk
-The EVs are doctored to maximize defense and to increase attack by one point.
-Oran berry is used to maximize longevity.

[Team Options]

Pokemon who have access to Trick Room and Stealth Rock are great teammates, since Trick Room allows Wooper to outrun all the Pokemon in the tier and Stealth Rock turns some 2HKOs and OHKOs. Bronzor is an ideal candidate for this spot, having access to both of these moves, and having good bulk to set them up. Additionally, being a Steel-type, it resists Wooper’s only weakness, Grass-type attacks.

[Optional Changes]

Moves such as Encore, Counter, Curse and Yawn are all viable options for Wooper, but are generally not worthwhile because Wooper's defensive stats are not extremely reliable. Encore prevents setup Pokemon from setting up right in front of Wooper, however, most Pokemon will then just 2HKO it. Counter is slightly viable, however, you'd need to predict extremely well so that the opponent doesn't setup right in front of you. Curse is also inviable since Wooper is so frail, that by the time it sets up once, it's KOed on the second turn. Yawn cannot be used because it'll take a lethal hit, opponent switches out, and the switch in will KO Wooper.

[Counters]

Counters include all Pokemon that can take a hit from Wooper and can hit reasonably hard. Also, any viable Pokemon can counter Wooper when Trick Room is not in effect due to it's low Speed and frail defenses. Grass-type attacks are almost a certain KO on Wooper due to low defenses, coupled with a 4x weakness to them. However, Grass-types must beware of Ice Punch since it's a possible KO on some of the frailer ones.

There are definitely some viable utility sets with Wooper that shouldn't be forgotten. There is definitely a bulkier set that abuses its typing.

However, I'm not too sure about it's usefulness, especially with it's 55/45/25 defenses, pretty unreliable... I'll need to be further convinced on that to proceed.

Nothing related to grammar really, but just some mistakes that I caught that you must beware of. Note that at the end of a paragraph, you have to add "
" (with the slash). If mentioning a type (i.e. Water-), it has to have a hi-fen. The word "type" is not capatalized. Otherwise, its not bad for a first try.

Utilizing Bbrave nature increases Wooper's mediocre Aattack, allowing it to nab certain OHKOes and 2HKOes, (which seriously needs the boost) while allowing it to outrun almost all Pokemon under Trick Room.
Pokemon who have access to Trick Room and Stealth Rock are great teammates, since Trick Room allows Wooper to outrun all the Pokemon in the tier and Stealth Rock turns some 2HKOs and OHKOs. Bronzor is an ideal candidate for this spot, having access to both of these moves, and having good bulk to set them up both of these field effects / hazards. [Optional Changes]

Moves such as Encore, Recover, Counter, Curse and Yawn are all viable options for Wooper, but are generally not worthwhile because Wooper's defensive stats are laughable.

(You need to add much more to this. Don’t just list each move, but explain them.

[Counters]

Counters include all Pokemon that can take a hit from Wooper and can hit reasonably hard. Also, any viable Pokemon that are used in LC battling can counter Wooper when Trick Room is not in effect due to it's low Sspeed and frail defenses. Grass-types attacks are almost a certain KO on Wooper because due to low defenses, coupled with a 4x weakness to Grass-. it's defenses are low and it's 4x weakness to them, Hhowever, Grass-Ttypes must beware of Ice Punch since it's a possible KO on some of the less bulky frailer ones.

(Don’t just say “Also, any viable Pokemon that are used in LC battling can counter Wooper…etc.” List some examples.

Well you're, of course, forgetting the fact that Wooper has Recover. This means it can use a set like this:

[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Ice Punch
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Recover
item: Oran Berry
nature: Impish
evs: 236 HP / 76 Atk / 156 Def

or even:

[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Stockpile
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Recover
item: Oran Berry
nature: Impish
evs: 236 HP / 76 Def / 156 SpD

I've seen, tested, and played against the first set. It's definitely useful especially since people don't prepare for it. The latter I have not tested myself, but I have definitely seen it work.

And last I checked, 25 HP isn't laughable....
