Drowzee

Psychic-type.
[Overview]

Drowzee is both uncommon and underestimated in Little Cup. With high Special Defense and HP, a large movepool, and some decent physical stats, it can fill a spot in almost any team. Terrible Speed is actually great for Trick Room, not to mention it can set up Trick Room itself. However, With weakness to the priority moves Sucker Punch and Shadow Sneak, it is easily KOed. Although Drowzee may seem like a poor choice on paper, in battle he will provide and essential teammate to many teams.

[SET]
name: Dual Screens
move 1: Reflect
move 2: Light Screen
move 3: Drain Punch
move 4: Zen Headbutt / Ice Punch
item: Light Clay / Eviolite
ability: Insomnia
nature: Impish
evs: 196 HP / 236 Def / 76 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Dual Screens is an asset to every team, reducing damage to your Pokemon by 50%. Giving your less bulky Pokemon a much needed chance to set up is great for them. Having a decent Attack stat and effective physical movepool proves to benefit Drowzee grreatly. With Drain Punch for healing and moves such as the three elemental punches for coverage, it makes finding a Pokemon to resist it all makes it difficult. Ice Punch is aimed to hit Gligar while Zen Headbutt is STAB and hits many of the common Fighting-type Pokemon for super effective damage.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This set proves to be a good lead. With Hi Jump Kick so common, Drowzee can just resist it and set up a screen decreasing the damage taken by a greater amount. Thanks to the popularity of the power boosted Drain Punch and its healing capabilities, Brick Break has become increasingly rare. Your screens will likely hold up uninterrupted. Insomnia is the preferred ability over Forewarn as it will protect Drowzee from falling to many Sleep Powder Pokemon such as Bellsprout and Hypnosis users such as Bronzor and Vulpix. Thunder Wave is an interesting option as it can cripple the opposing Pokemon and allow Drowzee to move first next turn. Light Clay's ability to extend the screen period greatly enhances Drowzee's ability to setup and its effectiveness in supporting its teammates while the Eviolite along with Drain Punch extends the life of Drowzee in exchange for less turns of your screens which may prove to be critical. Drowzee's terrible Speed leaves it dependent on its bulk. While Drowzee is great for setting screens up, it faces stiff (if not insurmountable) competition from Natu and its Magic Mirror ability, which bounces back any Taunt or hazard setting attempts from enemy leads. Scraggy is a good teammate for this set as it poses the very real threat of setting up potentially game ending Dragon Dance boosts behind Drowzee's screens and sweeping the remainder of your foe's team.

[Other Options]

While Drowzee does sport an unreasonably low Speed stat, with Jolly or Timid nature and a Choice Scarf, he can hit that magic number 21 and outspeed all unboosted Pokemon in the metagame. With access to a great variety of stat boosting moves, Drowzee can run a Nasty Plot, Meditate, or Calm Mind set. With Hypnosis, Substitute, and Focus Punch, our little friend can wreak havoc by causing sleep and then setting up a sub and proceeding to hit like a train via Focus Punch. Mirror Coat can be used to reflect moves such as Taunt, status or entry hazards. As previously stated Drowzee can run a Trick Room set to high effectiveness, with terrible Speed and a decent offensive movepool not to mention access to setting up Trick Room itself can prove to be a benefit.

[Checks and Counters]

Being a pure Psychic-type, Drowzee is weak to very few types, which unfortunately are very commonly used. With Sucker Punch Diglett running around, Drowzee is faced with the threat of being trapped by Arena Trap and eventually defeated by Sucker Punch. Murkrow and Ferroseed can come in and set up on Drowzee, resisting Drowzee's STAB and possessing impressive support movepools. Houndour completely checkmates Drowzee, with STAB Pursuit or Sucker Punch

[Dream World]

Inner Focus might just be the best ability Drowzee gets. While Insomnia prevents the uncommon sleep, and Forewarn tells you the opponent's strongest move, Inner Focus protects Drowzee from flinching, and with the abundance of Fake Out leads, Inner Focus will prove to be useful for setting up.

why is forewarn better than insomnia? (explain). Mention munchlax as a teammate (drowzee resists Fighting). Don't have much experience with this mon, but replace mankey with kojofuu (which is like Mankey, only better)

Note that Ghost-types are not necessary teammates, because even though they block Brick Break, the move is outclassed by Drain Punch, and there is really no point in using it other than breaking the occasional screens.

Thunder Wave can be mentioned in Additional Comments, making up for Drowzee's low Speed, and allows Drowzee to set up screens, and cripple opposing Pokemon.

A Calm Mind set can be mentioned in Optional Changes, allowing Drowzee to actually hurt Pokemon, except it's still not that powerful. The set should be Calm Mind | Psycho Shock / Psychic / Shadow Ball | Hidden Power Fighting | Thunder Wave.

Stamp when done.

SubPunch set could work to peg Dark and Steel-types, and it gets around Sucker Punch. And LOKrow. Drowzee gets Hypnosis, elemental punches, and ZHB to back it up, and it has ok attack. It gets around a lot of the pokemon mentioned in counters right now c;

It can use Psychic over Shadow Ball for not terrible coverage and more power.

Or Psycho Shock.

Mention it can actually set its own TR, which is good for a TR attacker.

Magic Coat is cool for reflecting Taunt.

It gets Nasty Plot.

It also gets (fuck yeah) meditate

I don't think Drowzee could run a Nasty Plot set tbh

It also gets (fuck yeah) meditate
Teehee Meditiate liek with Nasty Plot probably too weak to set one up

Huh.

TR/Nasty Plot with two of a psychic move, Shadow Ball, and HP Fighting a la Desukan in OU could work. Evo-stone gives it bulk to set up.

[SET COMMENTS]

Dual Screens is an asset to every team, reducing damage taken by to your Pokemon by 50%. This is great for your less bulky Pokemon giving them a much needed chance to set up. Shadow Ball and Hidden Power Fighting give excellent neutral coverage. Shadow Ball hits Meditite, Frillish, and Misdreavus, who which seems to be in atleast just about every Little Cup battle now. While Hidden Power Fighting hits those common Normal-type leads and Pokemon such as Ferroseed and Magnemite. Psychic an Psycho Shock get STAB hitting and hit Pokemon such as Croagunk (If you can live a hit from one.)

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This set proves to be a good lead. With Hi-Jump-Kick so common, Drowzee can just resist it and set up a screen. With the low amount of Brick Break users as Drain Punch outclasses the move providing another source of Health, you don't have to worry too much about losing your precious Reflect and Light Screen. Thanks to the popularity of the power boosted Drain Punch and its healing capabilities, Brick Break has become increasingly rare. Your screens will likely hold up uninterrupted. Forewarn just happens to be is the preferred ability over Insomnia. In the lead position, its information scouting abilities will be useful. Thunder Wave is another an interesting option as it can cripple crippling the opposing Pokemon and allowing you to move first next turn. Light Clay's ability to extend the screen period greatly enhances Drowzee's ability to setup and its effectiveness in supporting its teammates. is just to give you those two extra turns allowing you to either set up more or attack without having to worry about getting a KO Drowzee's terrible Speed means it has to make up for it in leaves it dependent on its bulk. Running an Evolution Stone works well too would work in enhancing that bulk initially, but the those extra few turns could provided by Light Clay often prove to valuable in some situations to be critical. While Drowzee is great for setting these screens up, Natu outclasses it majorly with Magic Mirror to reflect back any Taunt attacks that may come it's way it faces stiff (if not insurmountable) competition from Natu and its Magic Mirror ability, which bounces back any Taunt or Hazard setting attempts from enemy leads. Scraggy is a good teammate for this set, it will gladly appreciate the screens which will give it a chance to set up more Dragon Dance posing the very real threat of setting up potentially game ending Dragon Dance boosts behind Drowzee's screens and sweeping the remainder of your foe's team.

[Other Options]

Drowzee as earlier mentionedcan run a variety of sets, but not all are run with a vast amount of effectiveness. A bulky Hypnosis and Dream Eater set can be run, providing a STAB way to gain health back crippling an enemy with sleep and potentially abusing a powerful STAB move with healing benefits. While Drowzee does sport an unreasonably low Speed stat, with Jolly or Timid nature and a Choice Scarf, he can hit that magic number 21 and outspeed all unboosted Pokemon in the metagame. With access to a large great variety of stat boosting moves, Drowzee can run a Nasty Plot, Meditate, or Calm Mind set. [Checks and Counters]

Murkrow and Ferroseed can come in and set up on Drowzee, resisting Drowzee's STAB and with a large possessing impressive support movepools. Houndour just completely owns checkmates Drowzee like nobodys business, with STAB Pursuit and Sucker Punch ready to completely dismantle the psychic tapir there is no chance in hell of Drowzee catching a break.

[Dream World]

edit: Since I seem to QC a lot of your threads, let me post a tip for future reference: there is no real need for creative flare or unique prose-- in fact, quite the opposite since we're making standardized analysis of Pokemon. When in doubt, use the most boring, commonly used phrases and language repeated in other analysis. I feel like often you are trying too hard to put a new spin on old phrases, and it causes you to make unnecessary mistakes. Well, this is a pretty common problem.

Hidden Power Fighting hits those common Normal-type leads and Steel-type Pokemon such as {like can mean such as or similar to. Much, much better than your other analyses; good job. There is still the "you" and "subject" mix-up issue, but it's dying down dramatically. Great job ^_^

Charmander- Thanks. Yeah I'm trying to work on that you thing. Implemented your changes and after re-reading I made some new changes for confusing scentances.

This has been returned to QC status pending a third stamp, which I will provide when I have satisfactorily discussed this Pokemon with other members of LC QC.

Yay w/e im fine with this, will fix stuff we talked about on IRC and stuff its just on a word document that i cant access till tommorow. When fixed then you can check it after your little chat with QC.
