After suffering a beating at the hands of yours truly, it seems like the onslaught of powerful trainers does not seem to end for our Ghost-type Leader: zarator. This time, his challenger is Frosty of Brazil, who has an astonishing 100% win rate against Gym Leaders, with 4 Badges next to his name! Will Frosty be able to keep his perfect record alive against zarator, or will zarator blemish this record with his supercharged Ghost-types with over nine thousand moves? Well, I guess it is time to find out in a hotly contested match that will spook the living daylights out of the average passerby in this graveyard...

Arena: The Forlorn Graveyard
Restrictions: No external water source.

People have stopped burying people in this abandoned graveyard for centuries, but there is still an eerie aura all over the place. The grass looks more grey than green (despite this not affecting Grass-type moves at all), and most Pokemon and people avoid the place instinctively. Some trainers however still visit this place to strengthen the link with their Pokemon, especially Ghost-type ones.

The odd aura of this graveyard has several effects in battle:
  • Focus Blast has 100% accuracy, and the base power of Aura Sphere and Hidden Power is raised by (2). It is very easy to focus oneself's soul in this place.
  • Will-O-Wisp and Inferno have 100% accuracy. There are always wisps floating around to provide decent enough fodder for these wicked spells
  • Draining attacking moves and Pain Split have their base energy cost reduced by (2). Life energies are easier to drain and consume in this place.
  • There are some leftover scrap parts, scattered around the arena. Rotom can tap into them, raising its Special Attack and Special Defense by 1 rank as long as it stays in its original form (without any appliance)

LEADER ZARATOR VS. CHALLENGER FROSTY

Chapter One - The Start Of Something Special

And so, the story begins... The story of how zarator went about his Gym Defence against a confident Frosty with a perfect record... Will it be a great novel on how zarator successfully ended Frosty's great record? Or will the novel have a moral that reads along the lines of: Gym Leaders cannot win against Frosty? Well then I guess it is time to write the novel... It started in a graveyard... a eerie, decrepit place that is only visited by Pokémon Trainers willing to strengthen their link between them & their Pokémon, as well as zarator, the Ghost-type Gym Leader, who has reserved this place to hopefully end Frosty's great run. He meets the challenger & sends out his Spiritomb (Talona) to open the ghastly battle, armed with an Everstone. Frosty—the challenger—was not really afraid of the ghosts, & responded by opening the match with his Colossoil, Gyorg. An all too opponent for zarator, he was not worried the slightest as his adversary armed Gyorg with the Blackglasses, ready for battle, as Talona started piling the pressure on her opponent...

... And so, the exciting part of the story began with Talona sensing danger, throwing up a barrier & protecting herself from danger. Gyorg felt overconfident heading into the match, ready to crush Talona with his sheer power, but there was a problem for him: The Everstone. He wanted to crush it, swipe it away, & thought that no barrier would stop him from disposing it. He was wrong. One swat of the arm was suddenly repelled by the barrier, blocking the might of the attack, disheartening the Colossoil, because of his failure. The barrier drops.

Gyorg saw another opportunity, but he did not take it. Instead, he advances once again on the Spiritomb. He lowers his head. He then opens his jaw & proceeds to chomp on Talona, hurting the Spiritomb & dealing minor damage. Talona shrugs off the attack. She then creates a link between herself & the Colossoil, before siphoning life force from him. A few seconds later, the attack ends & Talona seems to be fully recovered, but Gyorg seems to feel weaker than before, but it did not stop him.

Gyorg advances once again on Talona, before biting on her, dealing minor damage, not as much as his previous assault. As Gyorg then returned to his position, Talona pounced. She focuses herself & creates a barrier of mini-orbs, glowing orange in colour. Talona then releases a powerful energy, flinging all the orbs at Gyorg, one by one in quick succession, dealing some damage to the Colossoil, who did not seem to enjoy being battered by such attacks.

The Round has finished, & it looks like the Spiritomb has used a fair bit of her energy, but has definitely levelled the compeition & the HP gap to her adversary. What will happen next round? Read on, Chapter Two is on the next page...

Chapter Two - Terror

Everything was going so well... The competition was levelled, and with a bucket of confidence, zarator decided it was enough for his Spiritomb & called her back into her Poké Ball. In the Spiritomb's place, zarator sent out his Jellicent, going by the name of Umberlee, He gives Umberlee the Enigma Berry & got ready to go... As Frosty decided he would not switch. Will the Jellicent beat the Colossoil?

It started with Gyorg, advancing towards Umberlee. He raises his arms, & then strikes, attacking & swatting away the Enigma Berry the Jellicent held. Umberlee takes a chunk of damage, but will it shake her? No it does not. Umberlee attacks... She fires of a cold beam of ice, sending a shiver down the pine of her adversaries... The attack hits, & the Colossoil groans in pain over the damage & the coldness of the attack. Luckily for Frosty, the Colossoil was alright.

Gyorg then envelops himself in dark energy, ready to attack, & deal a lot of damage... Umberlee has her chance, she readies herself, & fires off a powerful beam of sleet & frozen bubbles, ready to deal significant damage. But no, the Colossoil was haveing none of it. He dives into the underground, easily avoiding the attack. The dark energy pulsating him, Gyorg comes up, at a powerful velocity, & bites the Jellicent with one powerful chomp! Umberlee takes huge damage, but the curse of her body takes effect! It seems like Gyorg has forgotten... how to burrow!

Sadly, both combatants are exhausted, they both regain their energy & call a truce, but just for one action as the round comes to an end. It looks like the Colossoil has the edge! What can zarator do to get himself back into the game? We shall see in chapter three!

Chapter Three - Disaster

The Colossoil continued on his merry way, with his merciless biting assaults on the Jellicent becoming stronger... One powerful crunching blow on the Umberlee, & she was bruised a bit more, not to mention, the Jellicent was a lot more softer than she was before. Umberlee has to resort to something else, & she does, twisting the dimensions to her very will, & making sure that she was the faster Pokémon & not Gyorg.

Umberlee then goes on the offensive, draining life force from the Colossoil to level the scores through the use of a mental link, though it did not hurt Gyorg that much. Gyorg then continues with his flurry of biting attack, advancing before chomping down on Umberlee with a weaker bite, but one that hit a weak spot, dealing more damage & leaving Umberlee rather weak.

Umberlee has to keep draining however, & is forced to fire off a red beam at Gyrog, dealing more damage & allowing Umberlee to recover some of the damage dealt, as Gyorg advanced once more, before biting on Umberlee with yet another powerful bite. This, however, proved to be fatal, as the strength of the attack was too much for the Jellicent. Umberlee collapsed to the ground, & was unable to battle. 3-2 Frosty!

The Round is done, & it is looking like another battle of disaster for zarator, with the Jellicent hopeless to stop the assault of his opponent's Colossoil. Can our Gym Leader protagonist turn the table on his foe? Stay tuned for Chapter Four...

With Gyorg on his last legs, Frosty bravely calls back his Colossoil, & sends out Jalhalla the Chandelure in his place! Frosty gives Jalhalla the Dusk Stone, as the whirlwind of sand surrounding Myrkul drops!

...And in another round full of inattention by the Gym Leader, Myrkul the Revenankh gets the jump & shares the pain between him & Jalhalla, only to be belted by a ball of shadow. Myrkul then continues to follow orders & creates a minor tremor that seems to make Jalhalla faster given the dimensions were twisted. This turned out to be a big mistake, as Jalhalla responded with a wave of scorching heat which burned the Revenankh, before getting the jump again by firing another ball of shadow in Myrkul's direction. Finally, Myrkul finishes the round with a more powerful tremor which does not slow down Jalhalla, but deals more damage, despite the burn, which continues to affect the Revenankh. It looks like Myrkul is lucky to be alive at the end of this round despite the major inattention, but will the gym leader be able to not only make the most of it, but get his act together in the process? We will see soon enough.

LEADER ZARATOR VS. CHALLENGER FROSTY

Chapter Six - Suicide

In a very short chapter, the protagonist zarator decides to make Myrkul go out with a bang, rushing at a blistering pace to deal noticeable damage to Jalhalla, as the power of the Life Orb then takes Myrkul out! The weakened Chandelure simply calls a sealing aura & seals off a bunch of moves, ready for the final Pokémon! At this point, the twisted dimensions have returned to normal, & the speed of Jalhalla has returned to normal. At this point, it is 3-1 Frosty, & zarator only has Talona the Spiritomb left. Will zarator manage to stage a come-back, or will Frosty complete a flawless victory? Find out in the next few chapters!
