Arena:
Following the directions given by the ASB Gym League representative, you travel towards the Hoenn desert. After a few days of walking against the wind and scaling the northeastern mountains watching over that sand-blasted place, you find yourself looking at yet another arid desert - but the Gym is nowhere in sight!

Could it be that the League representative is wrong? You try calling with your phone, just to be sure, but the telecommunications company did not extend their coverage to this forsaken, secluded lands. Checking at your provisions, you estimate that you and your Pokemon can survive on your own for another 3 days before you have to journey back. Resigning yourself to another hot week, you walk into the desert. After all, the sky is clear and there's an oasis in sight so why not do a little exploration?

You find yourself regretting that decision 2 days later. Despite being seemingly close, the oasis eludes you - shimmering not so far off, tempting, taunting. What's worse, you wake up on the 3rd day to find yourself half buried and choking in sand - a sandstorm! Struggling to get yourself up, you flail about blindly, the sand stinging every inch of your exposed skin. You can't even reach your buried Pokeballs! All of a sudden, a hand grabs at your collar while a voice yells, "Don't move!" You find yourself being hoisted out of the sand and facing a heavily veiled - and robed - man. "Follow me!" You have no choice - your saviour seems to be native to the desert and any place is certainly better than where you were.

After some time, you reach the man's tent, the entrance facing the leeway of the winds. Pushing yourself inside, you are surprised to see another person present - or rather, guest. "Why, hello there! Got caught up in the storm?"

You nod, then suddenly realise that the man who helped you didn't enter behind you. "Looking for Texas, I suppose? He's the one who helped you. I think he's out again - what business he's up to outside, I don't know."

Sitting on an empty couch, you take the offered waterskin and drink gratefully. "Who is he, and why are you here?"

"Me? Oh I'm a trader. Just stopping by to procure and sell wares to a regular customer, you know. As for Texas - that man - his full name is Texas 'Cloverleaf', son of Ksatria. Now don't go asking me who his father is - I have no idea about that. Point is, he lives here, because apparently he does not want to leave. Again, he has his reasons, and he keeps them to himself. I can tell you why he got that middle name, though - it's a reference to the symbolic ring he wears on his left middle finger, a keepsake from his mother, whom I heard is a native of these lands as well."

"So, uhm, do you know anything about a Dragon Gym in these parts?"

The trader grinned, "Nah, I don't. Texas might, though - knows this region like the back of his hand."

You have to wait until late night before Texas returns, however, and upon hearing your question, his reply was curt. "I'll take you there at sunrise tomorrow - travelling in sandstorm at night is dangerous." And so you have no choice but to satisfy yourself with that answer. tossing and turning in the night as the winds howl incessantly outside.

The next day, the three of you set out, the trader tagging along because "I'd like to see what this Dragon Gym is like". It doesn't take much time before you arrive at the elusive oasis, where the sands glitter like the scales of dragons. Suddenly, Texas whirls upon you.

"Do you swear, upon the Almighty, that you come for the Dragon Gym?"

Caught by surprise, you stammer, "Y-y-yes."

Texas' robe is tossed behind his back at that statement, revealing the Badge he keeps pinned on his tunic.

"Then I swear upon the All-Seeing, the Almighty, the All-Forgiving, that this is the Oasis of Dragons, home to the Dragons of the Sands, and Dragon Gym to the ASB League. I am the Leader, Texas son of Ksatria, and I accept your challenge."

"Should you prove yourself worthy, this Cloverleaf Badge of the Desert is yours. However, before we start, there are things that you must know."

"This Oasis is the sacred land of my mother's tribe, and the ancient djinni guard it fiercely. Should anyone invoke their protection, they will hide the person from an intruder's view with a sandstorm fiercer than any found in Hoenn. Also, the waters here are blessed - they will not freeze easily. Now, arm yourself - by the Almighty and his Prophet, prepare to face the might of the Dragons!"

Ambipom(*) Pow! (M)
Nature: Adamant (Attack increased by *; Special Attack reduced by *)
Type: Normal
Normal: Normal STAB; adapt comfortably to any surrounding after 3 actions. Able to use Outrage without losing focus.
Abilities:
Technician: Type: Innate This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their one-hit or two hit attacks that normally have 6 or less Base Attack Power to have their Base Attack Power on each hit multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, Double Hit to from 4 per hit to 6 per hit etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2). Because Technician is a multiplier on single hit moves, its effect is applied to Base Attack Power before any additive effects. Technician only applies to combos in the rare case that an initial hit will have 6 or less BAP.
Pick Up: (Innate) This Pokemon has a natural habit of collecting items. Whenever a hold item (its own or an opponents) is used or knocked onto the ground with a move like Knock Off, this Pokemon will immediately pick up that item without using an action. It can also grab dropped or naturally occuring hold items in arenas.
Skill Link: (Innate)(unlocked) This Pokemon’s skillfull aim makes its multi-hit moves always hit 5 times. The Energy Cost of multi-hit attacks is increased by three (3).

Well, then, I guess it's my lucky month: Texas' second challenger arrived the same time as I did! This new kid was shorter than the last one - Dogfish, I think. But Trainers come in all shapes and sizes, I'm told - the kid walking down your street could be the next prodigy. And so I tossed the coin again...

RNG Roll (LEAD) [<=5000 TEXAS; >5000 DOGFISH]: 3061/10000 (TEXAS)

A few flavour pointers if you will:
  • Texas will invoke the name of the Almighty in every order.
  • I am the referee, and the trader who witnessed the fight.
  • Desert environment means that either you wear head to toe, or you bare. Choose your dress code.

Texas leads and equips
Yarnus begins the order after emulation
Texas begins to pray
I watch the tides of sands

IAR EDIT: Removed Quote Tags around teams - Yarnus' mons were not showing up properly... -.-'

In the name of the Almighty Dragon Lord who watches over these sands, I call forth Maleficient @ Expert Belt to defend the sanctity of these grounds!

My father always used to tell me be to be hasty or else my defenses would falter. My Ambipom and I are Adamant you will come to your downfall!

Ambipom@Silk Scarf (I do have one, look in the prize claiming thread)
Fake Out, Fury Swipes, Fury Swipes
If Protect when Fake out is ordered, Hone Claws and push actions down
If Thunder Wave and you are not Taunted, Taunt and push actions down. Do this only once.

Seeing a handy lack of Fighting types to pick on it's Dragon unique weakness, Texas sees fit to send Maleficient the Hydreigon out onto the field first. With the Normal approach favoured by our challenger basically giving nothing but neutral match ups, he goes with what many could consider a signature Pokemon in Pow! the Ambipom. Right up to its usual tricks Pow! looks to Fake it self Out some Hydreigon but Texas' pretty much throwaway attempt to Dodge the incoming blow actually works and Ambipom hits air! In a further attempt to avoid damage for the round Unpronouncable the Hydreigon draws out a Taunt with the threat of a Thunder Wave but of course is then unable to pull off the move. Meanwhile poor Pow! finishes the round totally impotent in missing with an attempt at Fury Swipes. He sure is swiping away at the air well though. People, this is why you invest in a +Spe nature for your fast mons! Our leader did just this and Hydreigon's largely accurate Focus Blast hits and crititally to boot. Texas cackles away at his challenger's insolence after clearly winning the round but of course it's shaping up to be his turn to act first come Round 2.

Multi hit attacks deal rocky helmet damage based on the final damage. For that matter the sub doesn't actually make sense so i guess ignore it?

The leader makes what many could consider a strange switch, going into one of the few Dragons in his arsenal that is not pseudo-legendary. But of course the reasoning becomes clear rather soon, as a combination of Rough Skin and that Rocky Helmet look to wreck all of Pow!'s plans. Doing all he can to avoid at least the primary damage, Yarnus has his Ambipom set up a series of clones to distract the oncoming Druddigon and while they work for a while it doesn't stop Pow! from hurting himself pretty badly when striking with both Furry Swipes and a Double Hit. On the bright side at least nothing missed and Yarnus showed that his mon certainly brings strong neutral hits. Unfortunately the veil of Hax couldn't last forever and Druddi's last Superpower finds its mark and pushes Pow! to the brink. This one is far from over yet, especially with such high HP totals in the bank for the challenger, but Texas has advanced his early lead.

Realising full well that Ambipom is pretty much outclassed here a timely switch is in order. Unfortunately Yum! the Lickilicky faces similar problems with the ever persistent Ice Beam nerf and resorts to a Hyper Beam to attempt some damage but Druddigon just goes ahead and Protects against it. Druddigon then goes ahead and proves that despite any tag it might have had it is in fact possibly the best ASB dragon that there is. After watching and waiting while Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet make Yum!'s Bind rather painful for himself he then sets up some Stealth Rocks (yes, it gets Stealth Rock!) to prove extremely usefull throughout the battle. Yum! then inexplicably goes for some Toxic poisoning rather than you know, just killing the thing. Druddigon then takes advantage of those Rocks with a little Dragon Tail action and here comes Snorlax!

Once Zzz! takes some Rocks on the way in he and Yarnus look to get to work finally removing this ever annoying Druddigon. Unfortunately he has to first take some Superpower from Druddy that quickly brings the Snorlax's bulk back into line with a critical hit to bring extra pain. At least Zzz! is able to take advantage of Druddigon opening itself up with the move as his Earthquake hits critically itself. Yarnus does get a stroke of luck (probably to make up for round 1) when Druddigon's last ditch Focus Blast misses barely and Zzz! is able to finally remove the pest with a powerful Outrage! Unfortunately it still takes 50% recoil in doing so and now Yarnus leaves himself wide open with Snorlax locked into the move for most of the next round.

Zzz! does at least nibble on some Leftovers after looking somewhat satisfied with the first KO of the match. But Texas does now have run of the race to send in whichever Dragon he likes and maintain the strong position. Then again maybe he's too busy having nightmares about Faeries or dreaming of the new Dragon's he gets to play with (Dragalge!). No one knows really.

Okay...I think Normal types can outrage without losing focus. Can I have this confirmed?

I don't want to put down subs for a1&a2 if they won't matter.
