5 v 5 Gym Singles (Leader B8P5 v Challenger B5P5)
3 day dq
Relic Castle
Items=ON
Abilities=ALL
Switch=OK
25 Chills | 10 Recovers PER PLAYER

Welcome tonight ladies and gentlemen to the latest edition of 'Bash the Bugs' featuring our resident Bug type Gym Leader, Rediamond, defending his hive against world renowned opponent, Its_A_Random (just kidding, he's from Australia, he likes sheep)! The Gym Leader is no stranger to challenges, entertaining one of the greatest totals of challengers to his Gym badge. Perceived by some as a weaker leader due to his chosen typings shortcomings, Rediamond is nevertheless a talented battler who has defended his badge successfully against worthy opponents in the past, yours truly included. This match promises to be chock-full of action and tricky tactics.

Arena: Relic Castle

Hidden away for centuries, a monster resides at the bottom of the ancient castle. And he is not happy to be disturbed.

Sand pours down from the higher levels in the gigantic throne room of the Relic Castle in Unova. But, that is not nearly so impressive as the set of columns and stone stairs leading up to the ancient throne, or the scope of the chamber. And those fail to capture the potential danger of the angry Volcarona hovering above you.

The arena revolves around both the natural layout of the room, and Volcarona intimidating non-bugs and assisting bug-types in his home.

-No natural water
-Hail, Rain Dance, and Sunny Day may not naturally be used
-Sandstorm costs three less energy to summon
-Trapping moves cost two less energy and last for an additional round
-Any rock move that requires natural rocks used by a non-bug type will result in Volcarona (neutral nature) attacking the user with Fire Spin. This shall be interpreted as Rock Throw, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, and Stealth Rock.
-Swarm is automatically active for all Pokemon who have it
-Fly and Bounce will only evade contact moves during their semi-invulnerable phase

We find ourselves tonight in the Relic Castle. No longer assuming the guise of a world weary scientist lecturing his viewers, Rediamond became something of a recluse after meeting his trusty Volcarona and took up abode among its brethren in their hive, nestled deep with the Relic Castle. Buried underground, the cramped nature of the arena is sure to impact the challengers less straightforward tactics. The Volcarona swarm is ever present as well, and does not take kindly to those attempting to bring their home down by using the natural rocks in the area. The challengers have finalized their rosters for this standard 5v5 Singles match and I have their data at hand, let us see the teams!

Leader Rediamond

AURUMOTH, DESTROY OF WORLDS (M)
Nature: Mild (+SpA, -Def)

Type: Psychic/Bug: Psychic STAB; less susceptible to blinding, more susceptible to sound-based assaults as far as locking on with Psychic attacks, can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks. Bug STAB; more mobility in dense brush or forest conditions. Gains one extra attack on multi-hit moves, with a cap of five (5).

Abilities:
Weak Armor: (Toggle) The Pokemon can loosen its worn defensive armor so that it will break off when an opponent uses a contact attack, reducing the Pokemon's Defense and increasing their Speed by one (1) stage for each hit.
No Guard: (Passive) This Pokemon has an immense confidence from perfecting each of its attacks, giving them all perfect accuracy. As a result, it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when an OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally, even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in using OHKO moves prevents them from being benefited by No Guard; they will have their normal accuracy.
Illusion (DW): (Passive) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Pokemon with Illusion with the info on said Pokemon and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. You must use that squad member later in the battle though.]

Swarm: (Innate) When this Pokemon’s HP is lower than 33% (flat), the Base Attack Power of any Bug-typed attack is increased by 2. (eg Silver Wind goes from 6 to 8, X-Scissor from 8 to 10)
Technician: (Innate) This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their attacks that normally have 6 or less Base Attack Power to have their Base Attack Power multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2).
Light Metal: (Trait) The Pokemon's body is made of a lightweight but extremely strong alloy. It weighs half as much as other members of the species, but is equally sturdy. Fire: Fire STAB; immune to burn, 50% reduction in freeze chance, emit a low glow in dark places, takes additional damage if active open flames are exposed to a water attack. Superior senses in volcanic or bushfire areas.

ABILITIES
Flash Fire
: (Passive) This Pokémon thrives in high temperatures, & takes the energy of any opposing fire attack, nullifies the damage, & uses the additional power to boost its own fire attack's Base Attack Power by two (2). Self-targeted attacks do not give the boost.
Flame Body: (Passive) This Pokémon's external temperature is kept at such a high level that any contact attack used on this Pokémon has a 30% chance of burning the opponent.
Shadow Tag (DW): (Passive) Upon entry into battle, this Pokémon's Shadow expands across the arena & dissipates, forcing opposing Pokémon to stay within 10 metres of this Pokémon. The Shadow entirely negates the ability to switch for every Pokémon except those who also have Shadow Tag.

Both combatants boast deadly lineups, full of power. Keep close watch on the Gym Leader's Aurumoth. With its excessive power, glut of coverage and ability to hit every member of the challengers team heavily, not to mention its illusory capabilities it is sure to leave an impact on this match. For Its_A_Random, Grandstone the Regirock is the dark horse this match. Legendaries are rarely seen in ASB competition and this is a match that seems to fit its specifications ideally. It has an opportunity here to demonstrate its true abilities.

The formalities are finished, the stone is set and the band is playing, let us begin the match! Turn order will be determined by impartial coin flip. Heads will represent the gym leader, tails the challenger.

Tail is the call! The Challenger will tip his hand first. Allez!

Tomohawk was brought out by Roar!

After careful consideration this battle begins with IAR releasing his trusty steed, Tormeldon the Camerupt, complete with a Rare Candy to snack on during the battle. Blessed with significant bulk once its abilities are factored, Tormeldon is a surprising powerhouse of a Pokemon. In response, Rediamond issues forth his newly acquired Aurumoth with its Occa Berry in its natural form, deeming illusory trickery unneeded.

In advance of danger the giant bug (seriously this thing is massive) summons a reflective barrier around itself. This proves fortuitous as the camel unleashes a bellowing Roar which echoes off the barrier and proves to terrify only the Camerupt itself, causing it to yearn for the safety of its Pokeball.

Aurumoth then switches seamlessly into the offensive, utilising its superior sensory abilities to lock onto Tormeldon and release a devastating torrent of water, preying on the camels innate susceptibility to the type. Unfazed, Camerupt spits forth a focused stream of flame that hit the Psychic type for lesser damage but that accurately destroy its held berry, surely causing a set back to the plans of the gym leader.

The gargantuan beetle (this thing is one of those bugs you expect to find murdering you in your sleep in Australia) finishes the round by once again flexing its magical coat to preotect itself against an incoming roar. This time the Roar reflects home, forcing Camerupt back to its Pokeball and summoning forth Raiza the Tomohawk. An advantageous switch for the Gym Leader? Only time will tell.

After the shenanigans demonstrated in the previous round both combatants switch into full offensive mode as the monster bug faces off against the warrior bird. Aurumoth displays its metal prowess and blasts Tomohawk with successive psychic waves. Twice slamming it around with its Psychic manipulation abilities and once emitting several balls of Psychic manifested energy to damage the Tomohawk. In response, Tomohawk calls forth its sensitivity to nature and targets Aurumoth's lack of a defensive guard as its weak point, lambasting it with Hurricane's several times over. These Hurricane's result in ridiculous damage and despite its own offensive salvo, the Bug cannot stand up to the windy forces and succumbs, giving the first kill of the match to Its_A_Random! The Gym leader is in a bit of a bind now, how will he respond to this set back?

After securing the first KO of the match IAR looks fairly confident in himself and his position, using Tomohawk to great effect. To replace his fallen comrade, Rediamond selects Galvantula, but he quickly recalls it when IAR counters with his Camerupt. In retaliation Rediamond sends out Diego Armaldo, a permanent mainstay of his gym team for its prodigious bulk, typing and power, as well as a reasonable support movepool. IAR meanwhile is sitting pretty with his paragon of bulky offense in his Camerupt, arguably with the perfect typing to a Gym such as this Bug one.

The round itself goes in a fairly straightforward manner with Armaldo refusing to give IAR control of his switch by cloning itself as a distraction against Camerupt's earth shaking Roar, dodging the auditory offence nicely. Armaldo then continue the theme of setting up by littering IAR's field with Stealth Rocks, sure to play a crucial role in the switching game. Camerupt appears unconcerned however and simply spews lava around the arena eliminating the clones and doing solid damage to Armaldo, though not inflicting a burn. The final action is a simple repeat of the first.

With both challengers picking up strategies from the previous round we continue this war of attrition between Diego Armaldo and Camerupt, both vying not to become the second KO of this gym match between the Bug Leader Rediamond and challenger Its A Random.

Armaldo takes the initiative once again by infusing its tail with what little liquid remains in this barren arena to create an Aqua Tail, which it slams will furious prejudice into the face of the oversized camel. In retaliation, Camerupt tenses up and erupts completely, spewing Lava all over the arena in a deadly plume of smoke and ash. Wary of angering the camel further Armaldo simply chooses to take a breather for a moment, recovering some of its energy for the next stages of the fight. Camerupt takes advantage of this momentary lull in action by firing a powerful Flamethrower from its mouth at the revived fossil for solid damage. Both parties return to established actions thereafter with Armaldo once against dealing significant damage with an Aqua Tail while avoiding any burns from the Camerupt's Lava Plume.

At the conclusion of the round both sides came out fairly even with the resulting status totals showing each competitor to be on roughly even footing. This particular matchup begins to near its conclusion as we anticipate how Rediamon will deal with the remainder of IARs team and just what a role Stealth Rock will play in assisting him to do so.

IF Will-o-Wisp and you do not have double team clones up use Double Team (2) and push actions back
If Stealth Rock is up on your side of the field when it is your turn to move, use Rapid Spin and push actions back

Remove mentions of Double Team clones, & remember that the first Lava Plume had Spread penalty, & that Rank 6 vs. Rank 4 is only 2.5 difference in Gen V. Armaldo should have 44.5 HP -> 44 HP.

"This should do the trick."

Bulldoze > Dig > Flamethrower + Flamethrower combo
IF
Diego Armaldo's Earthquake results in a critical hit A1, THEN use Earthquake A3.

"A foregone conclusion... You have earned your rest Tormeldon."

N/A > Flamethrower > Flamethrower
IF
Heracross is in the invulnerable stages of Dig when you act, THEN use Earthquake that action.
