"The sun may have set, but hope will rise again" That was part of a novel I wrote. I absolutely love writing about the close bonds between the Trainers who come here and the Pokémon they train. Could I use you and your Pokémon as a subject?

3v3 Gym Singles (Challenger PMs 3 Pokemon, Gym Leader PMs 6 Pokemon)
2 days DQ
Arena: Forlorn Graveyard
Switch = OK
Items = ON
Abilities = One
Substitute Orders: 2
No Mega Evolutions
Sending order is randomly decided.
Arena: The Forlorn Graveyard
Restrictions: None

People have stopped burying people in this abandoned graveyard for centuries, but there is still an eerie aura all over the place. The grass looks more grey than green (despite this not affecting Grass-type moves at all), and most Pokemon and people avoid the place instinctively. Some trainers however still visit this place to strengthen the link with their Pokemon, especially Ghost-type ones. A still lake formed in a fissure in the ground, however the dark water makes it impossible to see what lies in its depths

The odd aura of this graveyard has several effects in battle:
  • Focus Blast has 100% accuracy, and the base power of Aura Sphere and Hidden Power is raised by (2). It is very easy to focus oneself's soul in this place.
  • Will-O-Wisp has 100% accuracy. There are always wisps floating around to provide decent enough fodder for this wicked spell.
  • Pain Split has its base energy cost reduced by (2), and all draining attacks are empowered as if the Pokemon were holding Big Root, but without incurring the extra energy cost (this effect doesn't stack with Big Root itself). Life energies are easier to drain and consume in this place.
  • All Pokemon's max HP are reduced to 90. The aura of sorrow which permeates this place withers the strength and the resolve of all the Pokemon battling in its surroundings - even Ghost-types.
  • There are some leftover scrap parts, scattered around the arena. Rotom can tap into them, raising its Special Attack and Special Defense by 1 rank as long as it stays in its original form (without any appliance).

Well hello ghosts!...and you people too.

Welcome to the Forlorn Graveyard! After a good while, we are back in business here. Not let's take a look at our contestants!

The Leader zarator Shauntal doesn't come from a very good record outside the ghost gym. After a defeat on the Dragon Gym and on the first round of the tourney, zarator Shauntal is in a position where (s)he needs to prove him/herself once more. In the other hand, ever since the leader changed the rules for his gym, he is 2-0, with great plays and crushing victories (before you say Ralex was DQ'd early, I must mention that he was in a very tough spot on Round 2-3, which is really early and hard to come back). There is a great chance that zarator Shauntal has finally found the balance in his/her arena and strategies with ghost mons. Also, those mons (aside from one) are very familiar to the leader, so don't expect the mistakes you have seen vs Dragon, as they won't happen.

Pay special attention to Cyric the Gengar here. We all know that Gengar is a terrifying mon. In this battle, Gengar can probably defeat 2 of the 3 pokemon, assuming decent orders. Also, he is the perfect mon to remove others entirely from the equation and control the flow of the battle and, as I am sure you will notice here, that trait will be key to success.

The Challenger comes from a great morale boost. After beating an all-fairy team on his own Gym, getting the Bug Badge and advancing on the BoB tourney, Texas Cloverleaf is feeling like the king of the world, which is always good. His team may not have a particular strength versus ghost mons, but it also isn't weak to them or their coverage options. Which should provide us with an entertaining battle, to say the least.

Pay special attention to Unloved the Dragalge. Give him a nickname dammit! Erm...I mean... since this match have neutral matchups, Dragalge's Adaptability will be a great asset to have. Also, its special bulk lets it handle Gengar decently and Poison Point makes physical attackers not to good. Sure...this is a 1-ability match, but let's ignore that detail haha.

Now let's take a look at the teams!

Beginnings are important, whether in a good novel or a good battle!

Gym Leader Shauntal sends out Ibrandul (Sableye M)!
Ibrandul has Prankster!
Ibrandul holds Everstone!

Knock Off - Feint Attack - Zen Headbutt
If Dragalge uses Protect on A1, replace your respective action with Feint and push your actions back.
If Dragalge uses Dragon Tail and you don't have a Substitute up, replace your respective action with Substitute (15 HP) and push your actions back.

Round 1!

And we begin! The Challenger sends out Dragalge with Enigma Berry and the Leader counters with Ibrandul the Sableye with Everstone. Golurk is not here probably due to Enigma Berry (and maybe surf?).

Ibrandul begins the match by using Knock Off to remove those berries and deal great damage, while Dragalge sets up with Toxic Spikes. If you are taking notes, Toxic Spikes isn't really used on Gym Matches (I think only the Grass qualifiers saw those), so we can't really say the impact it will have on this match.

On the following action, Ibrandul continues the assault with Feint Attack, while Dragalge counters with a strong Adaptability Dragon Pulse.

Finally, Ibrandul attacks with a Zen Headbutt, which manages to flinch Dragalge. Fun fact: if Dragalge didn't have (-) speed, it would have missed. But alas, it was not meant to be haha.

And the leader has the advantage here! Mostly but not entirely due to that flinch. But still, considering that he ordered first, it is a good start. Let's see now if the Leader can seize the opportunity ordering last or if the challeger will get back some ground and abuse those spikes.

DATA:

ACTION 1!

Sableye used Knock Off! (-6en)
Crit: 13 (no)
Damage: 10+3+1+4.5 = 18.5hp

Round 2!

After a not so good first round, the challenger decides to call Dragalge back and send out Pyroak.

If you are taking notes, this should be an excellent opportunity to see how Pyroak fares without the huge HP. My personal guess is that it won't fare well, especially against the physical defensive behemoth that is Everstone Sableye.

Anyway, this match-up begins with Ibrandul the Sableye using Fake out to Flinch Titan. Nothing to see here.

After that, it takes a Heat Wave and then sweeps in to Knock Off Pyroak's item, like what happened to Dragalge.

Finally, Pyroak and Sableye trade their strongest blows, getting the same results as far as damage goes. Considering that sheer power was Pyroak only remaining advantage, that isn't good news for the challenger.

It seems that this Sableye is a very tough nut to crack! In two rounds it managed to deal almost a pokemon's worth of damage while removing the item of two pokemon (pokemon that doesn't seem to be able to steal items, which is a plus!). The Leader has pretty significant advantage this early! Let's see if the challenger can recover the lost ground though.
DATA:

ACTION 1!

Is the first chapter coming to an end?

Low Kick - Feint Attack - Poison Jab
If Pyroak uses Will-O-Wisp, replace your respective action with Taunt and push your actions back. Do not play this substitution more than once.
If Pyroak uses Dragon Tail and you don't have a Substitute up, replace your respective action with Detect (the first time) or with Substitute (15 HP) (any further time) and push your actions back.

Round 3!

Fed up with that Sableye, the Challenger decides to pull no punches. After weakening Ibrandul with a Giga Drain, Titan focus hard on his attack, not minding the Low Kick and the Feint Attack used against it and then viciously attacks the Sableye with a Flare Blitz + Flare Blitz Combination.

Sableye fainted!

And the challenger draws first blood! But for which price? we will see soon enough.

Round 4!

After a great start with Ibrandul, the Leader sends out her a-mon: Cyric the Gengar.

And Cyric makes quick work of Pyroak with Toxic followed by a Venoshock. Titan managed to endure the hit, but Toxic was too much and it bit the bullet. 2-2!

The Leader now has a sizeable advantage. Let's see if she can capitalize on that.
DATA:

ACTION 1!

Gengar used Toxic! (-6en)
Pyroak is badly poisoned!

Pyroak is cooling down!
-1hp due to toxic

ACTION 2!

Pyroak used Endure! (-15en)

Gengar used Venoshock! (-7en)
Crit: doesn't matter
Damage: (13+3+2+3)*1.5= 31.5hp

Pyroak lost 1hp due to toxic!
Pyroak fainted!

I feel the roundabout of this narrative is close

Dazzling Gleam - Sludge Wave - Sludge Bomb
If Druddigon uses Glare or Taunt, replace your respective action with Taunt and push your actions back. Do not play this substitution more than once.

Round 5!

Being forced to go on a damage race against the newcomer, the Leader is somewhat overwhelmed by the broken powerful Sheer Force + Life Orb combination.

Also Dragon Tail hit (on a critical hit to add insult to injury) and, look at that, we will finally have the opportunity to see an Aegislash in action. Helm was sent out!

The leader still has the advantage and is ordering last. But we are reaching the critical moments here, so anything can happen.
DATA:

ACTION 1!

Gengar used Dazzling Gleam! (-6en)
Crit:10
Damage: (8+2+3)*1.5 = 19.5hp

Druddigon used Crunch! (-6en)
Crit:6
Damage: (8+2+3+4.5)*1.5= 26.25hp

ACTION 2!

Gengar used Sludge Wave! (-6en)
Crit:15
Effect: 7 (no)
Damage: (10+3+3)= 16hp

Druddigon used Dragon Tail! (-4en)
Hit: 14 (yes)
Crit:1 (yes)
Damage: (6+3+3+3+4.5)= 19.5hp
-2hp due to life orb

ACTION 3!

Gengar used Dazzling Gleam! (-6en)
Crit:5
Damage: 19.5hp

Druddigon used Crunch! (-6en)
Crit:15
Damage: 26.25hp

Sends out: 4/4 (Aegislash)
