Arena: The First Lair

Here in the caldera of a long dead volcano the highest caste of Pokemon commune in the way that they know best, they speak a language that is universal to all dragons and all beings, the language of claws and power, of blood and pain, here the dragons fight.

The spoils of victory line the walls of the caves where the natives live, and in the center itself the ground is packed tight and cracked from pressure; for since the dawn of dragons there has never ceased to be a fight. They fight not for power, not for status, they fight because it runs in their marrow. These majestic beings fight because to conquer and subject is in their nature.

This is where the dragons originated. All species of dragons were born in this very place. Here they gathered together and tested their power against each other. This created a pressure of the very essence and soul of dragons that diffuses in the air. Dragons not used to this environment are overwhelmed by the assault of draconic power and as a result cannot harness their own innate abilities until they have adjusted. (Challenger Dragon Pokemon do not receive STAB benefits for 3a of battle time)

Recently, the Dragon Sords convened and granted an outsider special exception among their ranks. Charizard, the Dragon that never was, has been reborn as kith and kin through commune with humans. The Dragon Lords have permitted them into the pack on the condition that they only enter into the lair already in their draconic state. (Charizard may be brought by the Gym Leader and is always Mega evolved, holding Charizardite-X)

The dragons were born to rule and abhor all that would hold them back. This desire fuels the dragon's spirit, the spirit that infuses every substance near the lair. As a result, the tools of the dragons to defeat their natural adversaries are strengthened by the collective desire of all dragons to maintain their rightful place as Lords of all Pokemon. (+2 BAP to Fire-, Poison-, and Steel-type moves)

Hello people and welcome to the First Lair! Although I probably should just be quiet or those dragons will eat me for disturbing them.

anyway

We are here for yet one of those "Gym Leader tries to get badge from Leader of a typing weak to his" battles. To be more specific, waterwarrior of the Ice Gym comes to the Dragon Gym in order to get his third badge yeah wonderwoman got 2 badges already sucks to be you I guess. The dragons around don't seem to be happy with our newcomer, but hey, they did let me ref this, so I guess we should be fine unless it is some kind of trap, ww watch out!

The leader comes from a very crushing victory against the unprepared Mulan and is feeling about himself, I assume. Now that his arena is finished and his team also, he should be able to fight back against both Ice and Fairy teams with some efficiency and prove that dragons are considered dangerous for a good reason.

Pay special attention to Unnamed the Tyrantrum. Even though it isn't honored with a name, Tyrantrum's secondary STAB coupled with Rock Head Head Smash means that it has a pretty good chance at defeating 2/3 of ww's team 1vs1. Which I assume is a good thing?

Our challenger is rising from the depths of DC Comics to a rather good position as a battler. While Ice is usually underrated (which 'cause him to be extra attractive to challengers hahaha) and waterwarrior's goofy persona contributes to that, you can't be mistaken. Provided that ww here doesn't make stupid mistakes, such as forgetting to calc before ordering, he actually has a decent chance at winning this match here.

Pay special attention to Mr. Freeze the Mamoswine. I will be honest here: I didn't think waterwarrior would bring these pokemons, for reasons I won't say. But of the pokemon he brought Mr. Freeze is, by far, the most anti-metagame one, somewhat. Ground typing means that Texas's counters against ice and fairy (dragalge, tyrantrum and charizard-X) must think twice before entering the field, as they don't do that well against Mamoswine's powerful earthquake (although a case can be made with Tyrantrum due to big def and head smash's big power). The other three dragon mons are also threatened by Mamoswine's ice attacks and they have to deal with the other members of ww's team, so, uh, go for it.

As for the actual teams...

Dovahkiin @ Expert Belt, you're up! This is gonna be tricky, but let's try to pull through!

Icicle Crash -> Ice Punch -> Icicle Crash
If damaging Fire-type combo, change that action to Substitute (15)
If Bide, change remaining actions to Toxic -> Swords Dance -> Icicle Crash

Try not to get roasted too badly, ok?

Round 1!

It doesn't matter how much this gym changes. It always boils down to a damage race.

The only difference is that with the change, the leader wins that damage race more often.

Carry On.

Flamethrower ~ Fire Blast ~ Flamethrower

If Ice Shard in a combo then Protect and push back
If Endure Toxic that action and push back (ONCE ONLY)

Well that's just goddamn unfortunate. 72.25% chance of me having that Clohm in a fairly nice position though...

Endure -> Avalanche -> Avalanche

Round 2!

Well I guess hax is here to stay :/

Weavile got fully paralysed and the obvious happened, I guess. Since no subs were created for that situation, Cyclohm managed to finish it off quite easily.

And with that the Leader draws first blood! Due to hax at some part? yeah. But not totally.

Still, the other mons the challenger brought can work around Cyclohm somewhat.

Somwhat.

Due to hax at some part? yeah. But not totally.
Without the first instance of hax, Weavile would be alive with 20 HP and Clohm would be dead.
Without the second instance of hax, Weavile would still be dead, but Clohm would have 14 HP and about 3 less ways to survive this round.

I'm inclined to say that yeah, it was COMPLETELY due to hax.

Mr. Freeze @ Expert Belt, try to take out this beast so we can kinda attempt to have a chance anymore

Earthquake -> Icicle Crash -> Earthquake
If Endure AND Clohm is not behind a Substitute, change that action to Toxic
If Water-type combo, change that action to Dig (suspend)

So yeah Texas I'm coming for your ass again as soon as this is over.

Round 3!

(Oh I do agree that Hax fucked you viciously and this match would be VERY different without it...but it still doesn't mean you shouldn't sub for it <_<)

Anyway, the leader uses Magnet Rise, Protect etc to have Cyclohm last longer and to avoid KO by Earthquake. Also ordering last when the next pokemon comes may have taken a part in that decision haha.

DATA:

ACTION 1!

Cyclohm used Protect! (-16en)

Mamoswine used Earthquake! (-6en)

Through some witty wittyness, the challenger manages to get rid of that Cyclohm without damaging the mamoswine further.

(You reffed Kiss as having Scope Lens, but the pre- and post-round stats say Expert Belt for some reason)

But hey, no hax is just fine in my book!

Aura Sphere -> Dazzling Gleam -> Aura Sphere
If successful P/E move, change that action to Roost and push back. Do not activate consecutively.

Round 6!

...

eh?

The Leader probably decided that facing an almost dead togekiss and a bruised Mamoswine isn't challenging enough and just gives the challenger a free roost for his togekiss.

Free as in "dodge on Aura Sphere? really?"...
DATA:

ACTION 1!

Tyrantrum used Protect! (-7en)

Togekiss used Roost! (-11en)
+20hp

ACTION 2!

Tyrantrum used Dodge! (-6en)

Togekiss used Aura Sphere! (-7en)
Hit: Yo Aura Sphere --- acc <_<
Crit: guaranteed
Damage: (9+3+4.5)*1.5= 24.75hp

Tyrantrum fainted!

oh.

oh that was bad.

Note to self: Don't order on your phone when you aren't paying attention

Enable Sheer Force

Iron Head ~ Gunk Shot ~ Iron Head
If Double Team then Rock Slide that action and push back
If Fly Then Smack Down that action and push back. Once Only.

Not to mention that even if I used Dazzling Gleam dodge would've just flat-out failed because it was used after Protect :P

Goddamnit Texas beating Druddigon this badly feels almost bad

Endure -> Counter -> Counter

Round 7!
Can you say "massive train wreck"?

Thanks to the leader overlooking the old endure + counter combination, a close match became merely a formality. Druddigon's vicious power against Fairies turns against him, leaving on the blink of defeat.

Now, as that famous game says:

DATA:

ACTION 1!

Togekiss used Endure! (-15en)

Druddigon used Iron Head! (-6en)
Damage: (8+2+3+2+3)*1.5=27hp
Togekiss endured the hit!

ACTION 2!

Druddigon used Gunk Shot! (-8en)
Hit: 20 (yes)
Crit: 10 (no)
Damage: (12+2+3+2+3)*1.5=33hp (endure)

Togekiss used Counter! (-22.5en)
Damage: 33*1.5= 49.5hp
NOTE: NDA: All effects that are based on the damage an enemy deals (ex. Bide, Iron Barbs) to the user act as though the opponent did full damage, even if Endure negated some of the damage

ACTION 3!

Druddigon used Iron Head! (-6en)
Crit: 4 (no)
Damage: 27hp

Togekiss used Counter! (-23.5en)
Damage: 27*1.5= 40.5hp
