Arena
The ASB Tournament Arena
Field Type: Neutral
Complexity: Simple
Format: All

Restrictions: No Restrictions

Description: Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokémon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokémon battling arena. In the centre of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Poké Ball centre). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about 4.5m wide & creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is 24m wide, 33m long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it is an outdoor arena with a large water source & packed dirt. Pokémon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying-type Pokémon, who cannot leave the arena & cannot fly higher than 18m). This prevents Pokémon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokémon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Hey Legends! This one just has to be fun. Here we have mainstay but seldom battler zarator facing off against newishcomer Saleem S in what should no doubt be an interesting match up. Of course it got infinitely less interesting when zara woosed out and didn't even bring his Legend to the match! Of course the team he did bring is very solid and also a rather good set of match ups. The new powerhouse that is Mega Camerupt is there and none of his Pokemon have bad match ups on the other side. Then again at least Saleem was fun and brought Deoxys. Seriously people you're finally getting to use Legends in ASB at least bring them to the battle no matter how bad the match up might be! Then again zarator might be the weird case of being sick of using Legends after years of controlling raids. Saleem's team is indeed nothing to sneaze at however, even if the surprisingly popular (to me at least) Deoxys takes attacks like a wet paper bag in all of it's more useful forms. I guess I could be proven wrong first hand however so let us get down to it and start this one off. Saleem has heads while zarator is on tails.

Well, it'd be hardly wise to bring Jirachi against someone with Charizard, Gengar, Cyclohm and Sableye^^

That being said, let's start strong

Sending out Dragonite with Enigma Berry.

Sending out Gengar [Gengar] (F) with Gengarite.

[Mega Evolve] Hypnosis ~ Nightmare ~ Perish Song
If P/E move on action 1, use Perish Song that action and push actions back.
If Dragonite is in the evasive stage of D/E move when you would act, and you have not used Perish Song this round, then use Perish Song that action and push actions back.
If Dragonite is in the evasive stage of D/E move when you would act, and you have used Perish Song this round, then use Substitute(15) and push actions back.

Well in today's episode of "how we get around Multiscale" Saleem figures that surely a sleeping Dragonite couldn't cause that much harm. Of course he is quickly proved totally wrong with Sleep Talk calls a critically hitting, drawback free Outrage which smacks rather hard into the Mega Gengar. At least Gengar is able to lay a little Nightmare on the dragon and break Multiscale but just as quickly back Dnite takes away one of Gengar's major weapons care of paralysis. And just to cap it off by ruinning all of Saleem's attempted tricks we all miss out on seeing if Shadow Tag Perish Song can be a thing in ASB when zarator simply has his Dragonite swat that Gengar and it's nasty shadow right out of here with a Dragon Tail. At least for Saleem the Cyclohm that came out to replace her is looking at a rather favourable match up. At least in the immediate future.

Actually half of the above goes to shit because Saleem isn't even aware that the Gengar he made like a week ago doesn't have Nightmare, so it takes another hit but at least isn't paralyzed. Also Multiscale is still broken. Also the whole thing's a little unfair on zara who's orders were based on the idea of Nightmare working.

Counterswitch Saleem S ?

I've been informed that Saleem S's Gengar does not know the moveNightmare, therefore the round plays out a little differently and Gengar takes somewhat more damage and is no longer paralyzed. If this effects your switch zarator then feel free to make changes as I am about to

Sorry, do I have the chance to change item on Fluffy?
I would have reacted in a different way, considering the change of status.
Although it alters quite a few events,
and As I had ordered the missing move, it would be appropriate that I am denied this privilege.

Wait, how would this affect your item choice for Fluffy the Cyclohm? I don't see it. deadfox081 I have nothing to change, but good catch on that Nightmare

I might have used Expert Belt on Fluffy the Cyclohm in that case.
Although it is fine.

Counterswitch accepted.

Looks like this will be a rough round for me, unless RNG opts otherwise.

Unfortunately for zarator that Dragon Tail brought out the kind of mon that a Dragonite without Multiscale just doesn't want to face, so he was forced to bring out his Azumarill perhaps earlier than he would have liked. With a strange choice of item geared soley towards combatting the Clohm. Either he didn't consider the switch or was just reserved to Azu being more or less totally boned when Mega Gengar came back out. The little water bunny could do nothing at all about Gengar stealing a good chunk of his HP with Pain Split and then not even two high powered combinations could bring the ghost completely to its knees. Meanwhile a couple of simple Sludge Waves from Gengar more or less matched the damage of zarators recoil and sluggish inducing combinations. Looks like Azumarill is pretty much a sitting duck now. Or rabbit as it may be.

Apparently people in this match struggle to order second. Zarator really should have just resigned his Azumarill to dead. Unfortunately he seemed hell bent on getting one more attack in and sure it meant that Deoxy-D couldn't Teleport away from the Super Aqua Jet but for that gain of 11 damage Deoxys now has Huge Power for life and an almost passable attack stat. Time will tell if it was worth it, but I can't say it's what I would have done.

Also holy crap someone is using Deoxys-D??

zarator chooses to simply send in a nuke to try and take out the defensive legend, and Camerupt looks like it'll do quite a good job at it. Especially once it Mega Evolves. Unfortunately Saleem steals the volcanoes most useful ability.. then fails entirely to put it to any good use. In fact it seems Deoxys lacks any real offensive prowess against this opponent so just burns through a whole bunch of energy using Rest to stall out the round and take very little net damage. Of course in the middle he almost makes the very strange move of switching the legend out and giving away all those tasty abilities he stole. I seriously cannot fathom the moves being made in this match, so I'm not going to attempt to predict what's coming next. Stakes do look to be almost dead even though.
