LC Alolan Grimer

QC checks: Corporal Levi, AD Thunderboy, Hilomilo
GP checks: P Squared, Haund

[OVERVIEW]

Alolan Grimer boasts a solid Poison / Dark typing, which grants it a sole weakness to Ground. Its amazing typing is coupled with solid 80 / 50 / 50 bulk that is further boosted by Eviolite. It also has access to Poison Touch, which adds to its many contact moves the extra chance of poisoning. Alolan Grimer acts as a wonderful Pursuit trapper with a better typing than Pawniard and better bulk than Stunky; on top of this, it has a good STAB combination and access to coverage moves like Fire Blast for Steel-types. However, it is quite slow, meaning that it almost always has to take a hit before moving. It's also vulnerable to entry hazards and burns, and the lack of Berry Juice and reliable recovery limits its longevity.

Moves
========

With Pursuit, Alolan Grimer can trap threats such as Abra and Gastly while also trapping weakened foes such as Pumpkaboo-XL and Slowpoke. Knock Off is a powerful Dark-type STAB move with the bonus effect of removing items. Both of these moves also come with a 30% chance of poisoning foes thanks to Poison Touch. Poison Jab is the preferred move in the third moveslot because it has perfect accuracy, hits decently hard, and boasts an increased 51% chance of poisoning. On the other hand, Gunk Shot trades these for more power, notably OHKOing Spritzee after Stealth Rock damage most of the time. For the last moveslot, Shadow Sneak can be used to pick off weakened targets and to bypass Alolan Grimer's terrible Speed. Alternatively, Fire Blast hits the Steel-types that check Alolan Grimer, with a small chance to OHKO Ferroseed after one layer of Spikes and a guaranteed 2HKO on non-Eviolite Magnemite and Pawniard. Finally, Memento can be used when Alolan Grimer has done its job, reducing the opponent's offensive pressure and easing the setup of sweepers such as Nasty Plot Vullaby, Shell Smash Shellder, and Swords Dance Pawniard.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack investment is required to make Alolan Grimer hit as hard as possible, and an Adamant nature should be used if Alolan Grimer forgoes Fire Blast because that allows it to Speed tie with standard Spritzee and KO it before it moves if the Speed tie is won. A Brave nature, on the other hand, boosts its Attack without reducing its Special Attack; however, this leaves it outsped by Spritzee. The leftover EVs are dumped into its defensive stats because it doesn't need Speed at all; they guarantee that Alolan Grimer is never 2HKOed by Life Orb Abra's Dazzling Gleam and, for Eviolite variants, never OHKOed by Jolly Focus Sash Diglett's Earthquake. Eviolite is the prime item of choice because it boosts Alolan Grimer's defenses to let it take hits better. Berry Juice, on the other hand, lengthens its lifespan, since it lacks any form of recovery. An alternative EV spread of 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD lets Alolan Grimer check Abra and Gastly more reliably but sacrifices some needed physical bulk, while a spread of 36 HP / 36 Atk / 196 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD grants better mixed bulk to avoid most OHKOs but at the cost of significant offensive presence.

Usage Tips
========

Alolan Grimer should spam Knock Off most of the time because it is a powerful STAB move with great utility and a good chance of poisoning; it should use Knock Off even if a Fairy-type such as Snubbull is switching in because removing its item helps with punishing it with Poison Jab or Gunk Shot later. Knock Off is also a good source of chip damage, increasing the chances to OHKO foes with Poison Jab. Pursuit severely dents fleeing foes, and the added bonus of possibly poisoning them is very useful because it deals some chip damage. Alolan Grimer should be sent in on Pokemon it can Pursuit trap, such as Abra and Gastly, because it can survive most hits and KO them back. Alolan Grimer is able to survive most powerful hits thanks to its typing and its bulk; however, keep in mind that it lacks a solid form of recovery besides Berry Juice. Finally, be wary of Volt Switch or U-turn users that can bring Diglett in, as Alolan Grimer is very vulnerable to it.

Team Options
========

Alolan Grimer can pair well with the majority of setup sweepers of the tier: Nasty Plot Vullaby is an exceptional partner and forms a Dark-type core with Alolan Grimer. Vullaby appreciates Alolan Grimer's Knock Off and ability to remove Fairy-types thanks to its Poison typing; on the other hand, Alolan Grimer loves Vullaby's ability to switch into Ground-type moves. Shell Smash Tirtouga pairs well with Alolan Grimer because it can remove opposing Eviolites and check Grass-types; in exchange, Tirtouga checks some Ground-types and picks off Diglett when its Focus Sash has been broken. Alolan Grimer struggles a lot against Ground-types such as Diglett, Mudbray, and Hippopotas because they can KO it; powerful attackers with access to priority moves, such as Dragon Dance Corphish and Carvanha, make for great partners, picking off Diglett and severely denting Mudbray and Hippopotas. Cleric support is deeply appreciated because Alolan Grimer doesn't have a solid form of recovery besides Berry Juice and suffers from burns: Spritzee can be a good partner, providing both Wish and Aromatherapy support to heal Alolan Grimer; Snubbull can weaken physical attacks that target Alolan Grimer thanks to Intimidate and provide Heal Bell support to remove burns; Z-Memento Cottonee can restore Alolan Grimer's health when it is low, soften an opposing sweeper, and also take on the Ground-types that Alolan Grimer hates. Fighting-types appreciate Alolan Grimer as a Psychic-, Ghost-, and Fairy-type check; Timburr, Mienfoo, and Pancham pair well with it, removing the Steel-types that check it. Finally, Grass-types such as Foongus and Pumpkaboo-XL can check the Ground-types that threaten Alolan Grimer.

Moves
========

Rest is Alolan Grimer's form of recovery, fully restoring its HP and removing status ailments. Sleep Talk allows Alolan Grimer to attack while sleeping and turns it into a good Spore absorber. Knock Off is a must, as it is a STAB move that removes items such as Eviolite and Choice Scarf, and it also has a chance of poisoning thanks to Poison Touch. Poison Jab is Alolan Grimer's secondary STAB move, boasting an impressive 51% chance of poisoning the target while also hitting Fairy-types super effectively. On the other hand, Gunk Shot has a lower chance of poisoning than Poison Jab but packs more power; it can OHKO standard Spritzee after Stealth Rock and non-Eviolite Snubbull at -1 Attack while having a small chance to OHKO Eviolite Snubbull.

Set Details
========

196 EVs in Attack and an Adamant nature make Alolan Grimer hit very hard, reaching 18 Attack. Eviolite boosts Alolan Grimer's defenses: with this item, it has a good chance to survive an Earthquake from Jolly Life Orb Diglett while always surviving one from the Focus Sash variant; with its Special Defense, it has a very small chance of being 3HKOed by Focus Sash Abra's Dazzling Gleam while never being 2HKOed by the Life Orb variant. Poison Touch is Alolan Grimer's best ability because it can poison foes when making contact, which complements Poison Jab very well. An EV spread of 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD lets Alolan Grimer check Abra and Gastly more reliably but loses some needed physical bulk; alternatively, a spread of 36 HP / 36 Atk / 196 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD grants better mixed bulk to avoid most OHKOs but at the cost of significant offensive presence.

Usage Tips
========

Unlike the Pursuit trap set, this Alolan Grimer set can last longer with less support, as it can heal itself with Rest. Knock Off is the move to spam the most because it removes foes' items and has a good chance of poisoning. Alolan Grimer should enter the field on a move it resists or is immune to, such as Psychic- or Grass-type moves, because even though this set is quite bulky, it dislikes taking too much damage. It can come in on Psychic-types like Abra, Grass-types like Foongus and Pumpkaboo-XL, Ghost-types like Gastly, and Fairy-types like Spritzee. Thanks to Sleep Talk, Alolan Grimer can come in on Foongus and Morelull to absorb Spore; Foongus has nothing to threaten Alolan Grimer with, while Morelull is outsped and OHKOed by Alolan Grimer's Poison-type STAB move.

Team Options
========

Even though Alolan Grimer can tank powerful hits, it has issues against Ground-types such as Mudbray and Diglett. This makes strong Water-type attackers with access to priority moves, such as Dragon Dance Corphish and Carvanha, great partners because they can pick off Diglett and severely hurt Mudbray. Entry hazard setters pair well with Alolan Grimer because it appreciates the chip damage provided by Stealth Rock and Spikes; defensive Tirtouga can set up Stealth Rock and, to a lesser extent, threaten Diglett with Aqua Jet; Ferroseed can set up Stealth Rock and Spikes; and Drilbur can set up Stealth Rock and remove entry hazards from Alolan Grimer's side of the field with Rapid Spin, while Alolan Grimer checks Grass-types for Drilbur. This Alolan Grimer variant depends less on Wish support than the Pursuit trap set, but a cleric can be used to heal Alolan Grimer when it is aslee or unable to use Rest; Spritzee or Snubbull can fill this role well. Grass-types can alleviate its weakness to Ground-type moves, making Pumpkaboo-XL and Foongus good teammates.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Snarl can hit Abra and Gastly behind a Substitute, but Alolan Grimer's Special Attack is very low, meaning it won't hit hard. For the Berry Juice set, Thief can be used once Alolan Grimer's item has been used; however, Knock Off is usually better because it packs more power. Alolan Grimer can run a Rock Polish set, but it lacks the power to OHKO most foes and will be outsped by most Choice Scarf users even at +2 if it runs an Adamant nature. Stone Edge can be used to hit Flying-types such as Archen and Vullaby hard, but both dislike losing their items, and Alolan Grimer has issues fitting it into a set; the Pursuit trap set needs Shadow Sneak or Fire Blast, and the RestTalk set has room only for its STAB moves. Curse can be used on the RestTalk set, allowing Alolan Grimer to boost its Attack and Defense; however, it has to forgo one of its STAB moves, which is hard to justify; if Alolan Grimer forgoes Knock Off, then Steel-types totally wall it; if it forgoes Poison Jab or Gunk Shot, then Fighting- and Fairy-types hard check it. Flamethrower can be used in the Pursuit trap set instead of Fire Blast for more accuracy, as it still 2HKOes standard Ferroseed anyway; however, it is significantly weaker when hitting Pawniard and Magnemite. Taunt can shut down opposing walls, but it's unreliable due to Alolan Grimer's low Speed and also because Alolan Grimer can damage walls with Knock Off.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Diglett is a nightmare for Alolan Grimer because it can trap and KO Alolan Grimer with Earthquake after Stealth Rock. Mudbray can take any hit from Alolan Grimer and retaliate with an Earthquake; RestTalk variants can also get around poison. Hippopotas can tank any hit from Alolan Grimer and KO it with Earthquake; Alolan Grimer also dislikes the sand damage and the possible Stealth Rock Hippopotas can set up. However, Hippopotas does not like being poisoned by Alolan Grimer's moves and hates losing its Eviolite.

**Steel-types**: Even though they do not appreciate Knock Off, Steel-types can check Alolan Grimer quite well. Pawniard is a prime example, as it completely stops the RestTalk set and can check the Pursuit trap set if it lacks Fire Blast. Magnemite does not appreciate Knock Off (especially Berry Juice variants) and gets 2HKOed by Fire Blast but can 2HKO Alolan Grimer with Thunderbolt or pivot out with Volt Switch, gaining momentum.

**Rock-types**: Rock-types resist Poison Jab and Gunk Shot, making it hard for Alolan Grimer to hit them hard. Onix can force Alolan Grimer, giving it opportunities to set up Stealth Rock. Archen resists Alolan Grimer's Poison-type moves and can threaten it with Earthquake but should be wary of Knock Off. Shell Smash users such as Omanyte and Tirtouga can use Alolan Grimer as setup bait because it lacks a solid option against them.

**Croagunk**: Croagunk completely stops Alolan Grimer no matter the set; it resists both of Alolan Grimer's STAB moves, is immune to poison by virtue of its typing, has a very small chance of being 3HKOed by Fire Blast even factoring in Dry Skin, and can use Alolan Grimer as setup bait for Nasty Plot or Bulk Up.

**Residual Damage**: The Pursuit trap set suffers from residual damage because it lacks a form of recovery besides Berry Juice. Weather damage such as from sand and hail, entry hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock, and burns constantly reduce Alolan Grimer's HP.

Overview:
  • Although Poison Touch is awesome, losing Sticky Hold makes it more vulnerable to Knock Off
  • Loses the elemental punches, which would have been important for its coverage
I don't think you need comparisons to normal Grimer since it isn't really relevant.
  • Faces a bit of competition from Stunky, which is a better Memento user, is faster, and has access to Defog and Sucker Punch (it lacks Knock Off, though)
A-Grimer mostly outclasses Stunky so I don't think you need this point

Set 1:
Switch Adamant and Brave because Shadow Sneak is the primary slash in the last slot.
  • Poison Jab should be the preferred Poison-type STAB choice, because it hits decently hard and packs an enourmous 60% chance of poisoning the target thanks to its ability.
Actually a 51% chance to poison (70%^2)
  • For the last slot, Shadow Sneak is a useful priority move for picking off weakened targets, and also bypasses Alolan Grimer's tremendous Speed.
"tremendous" is not the word you're looking for.

For set details, mention alternative EV spreads of 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD (to more reliably check Abra/Gastly) and 36 HP / 36 Atk / 196 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD (bigger mixed bulk to avoid most OHKOs at the cost of significant offensive presence).

For usage tips, ention to be wary of coming in on VoltTurn users into Diglett.
  • Alolan Grimer struggles a lot against Diglett and Mudbray because they can KO it; powerful attackers with access to priority moves, such as Dragon Dance Corphish and Carvanha make for great partners, picking off Diglett and severely denting Mudbray. Hippopotas can be problematic to handle as well, but Mudbray overshadows Hippopotas a bit.
Last part about Hippopotas isn't strictly true. Just include it with Diglett and Mudbray.

For Team Options, give special mention to Timburr due to how useful trapping Gastly/Abra and checking Fairies is for Timburr's sweep.

Set 2:
Again, Poison Jab only has a 51% chance to poison.
Add the same alternative EV spreads.

Other Options:
Snarl to damage Gastly/Abra behind Substitute, but A-Grimer's SpA means it's quite weak.
Thief with Berry Juice, but Knock Off is usually better.
Rock Polish sweeper, but A-Grimer generally lacks OHKO power and is still outsped by many Scarf users if Adamant is run.

Checks and Counters:
Mention for Ground-types that Mudbray can run RestTalk to get around Poison Touch.
Croagunk can use Alolan Grimer as setup bait for Nasty Plot or Bulk Up.

Very well done! Feel free to bug us on the LC discord if we take this long to get a check in.

I was about to amcheck this, but I've seen that you haven't fully implemented Corporal Levi's checks. This is important so other qc members can check this analysis completely without them having to waste their time to point out the things you haven't implemented from the previous check, so if you have the time, please fix this.

  • Don't say 'crux of the set', it's unnecessary. Just say what Pursuit allows Alolan Grimer to do
  • Mention that Knock Off can cripple Eviolite and Choice Scarf users by removing their item
  • Mention that Poison Jab also hits the Fairy-types that resist Knock Off and Pursuit super effectively. Also give examples (Spritzee, Snubbull, Cottonee)
  • Mention that Gunk Shot's lower accuracy can make it unreliable at times
  • Don't say frail set up sweeper, all set up sweepers appreciate Memento support. Also mention examples (Nasty Plot Vullaby, Shellder, Pawniard)

Set Details
========
  • Switch the order of Adamant and Brave explanations to match the order of slashing in the set. Also change the wording here to make clear that Adamant is the main nature (Adamant allows Alolan Grimer to hits very hard. Brave can be used if Fire Blast is run in order to not lower its damage, at the cost of being outsped by Spritzee).

Usage Tips
========
  • Mention that Alolan Grimer should be switched into Pokemon it can trap, such as Abra and Gastly, as it will relatively easily be able to take a hit and then eliminate it
  • however, do not exceed because Alolan Grimer lacks a solid form of recovery beside Berry Juice. 'exceed' doesn't make sense here

Overview
* This looks really solid, all I'd do is add that it has limited longevity due to lack of Berry Juice and reliable recovery (didn't have reliable recovery mention in there initially)

SET: PURSUIT TRAP (maybe change the word trap to trapper)
Set
Looks good

Moves
* I think Pursuit has use outside of just trapping frail targets, since it also allows Alolan Grimer to pick off weakened bulkier foes as well. I'd rephrase this section to represent that in saying something like "With Pursuit, Alolan Grimer can trap frail targets such as Abra and Gastly, as well as weakened bulkier foes such as Slowpoke and Pumpkaboo-XL." I also modified the line to include Abra as a frail target, since it is.
* Refer to NP as Nasty Plot, SS as Shell Smash, and SD as Swords Dance so not to confuse newer players reading the analysis.

Set Details
* When you talk about your first alternative EV spread, make clear that it comes at the cost of better physical bulk, which is often more valuable.

Usage Tips
* "the added bonus of a possible poisoning on them is very interesting" - I'm not sure that interesting is the right word to use here. Change it from interesting to something like 'useful for chip damage,' this is more suitable and provides readers with more clarification if needed.

Team Options
* Saying that Vullaby appreciates Alolan Grimer's Poison-typing sounds a little odd. Just so it sounds a little better, I'd instead say that it appreciates Alolan Grimer's ability to remove opposing Fairy-types thanks to its Poison-typing.
* When you mention Fighting-types, add Ghost-types when talking about types of Pokemon they struggle with.
* "Timburr in particular appreciates Alolan Grimer because it traps both Abra and Gastly, which are difficult to handle for Timburr." - I don't know that this sentence is necessary. Abra and Gastly are Pokemon that all Fighting-types tend to struggle with, so I'd remove this sentence (if anything Timburr has an easier time with Gastly since it can absorb Will-O-Wisp).

SET: RESTTALK
Set
Looks good

Moves
* The way you talk about Gunk Shot can at times make it seem like it only warrants a mention in Other Options, though since this isn't really the case, remove the last sentence in this section.

Set Details
* Like your first Set Details section, make sure that you say that the first mentioned alternative spread comes at the cost of better physical bulk, which is usually more valuable.

Usage Tips
Nice work here !

Team Options
Looks solid as well

Other Options
* Elaborate a little as to why Knock Off is preferred over Thief on the Berry Juice set (its much more powerful).
* When talking about Stone Edge, also say that Archen and Vullaby already dislike having their items removed by Knock Off enough.
* You don't need to mention Alolan Grimer's other abilities, they really won't do anything for it in any realistic scenario, so don't deserve mentions as a result. AD Thunderboy told you to remove this info as well, so please make sure you have everything I've suggested implemented before moving this to GP/

Checks and Counters
* There are quite a few small tweaks to make in your Ground-type question. First, remove your Trapinch mention since it really isn't common enough to warrant a mention here. You should also remove "While a bit less common now" when talking about Hippopotas, and also say that it doesn't like having its Eviolite removed.
* In your Rock-type section, change "making Alolan Grimer's life hard" to something like "making it hard for Alolan Grimer to hit them hard." I'd also add in this section that Archen should be wary of Knock Off from A-Grimer.

Overall, this is a very well done analysis. Implement these checks, give yourself 3/3, and move onto GP afterward :)

[OVERVIEW]

Alolan Grimer is one of the most interesting Pokemon SM has to offer; it (fluff) boasts the same stats of the regular form, but it adds the Dark-type, (AC) which reduces the number of its weaknesses to only one, Ground. Its amazing type typing is coupled by a solid 80/50/50 bulk, (RC) and the Eviolite further boosts it. It also has access to Poison Touch, which adds to its many contact move moves the extra chance of poisoning. It acts as a wonderful Pursuit trapper with better typng typing than Pawniard and better bulk than Stunky; and on top of this, it has an offensively good STAB combination and has access to coverage moves like Fire Blast for Steel-types. However, it does have some downfalls; it is quite slow, meaning that it almost always has to take a hit before moving, it's vulnerable to entry hazards and suffers from burns, and the lack of Berry Juice and reliable recovery limits its longevity.

Berry Juice, on the other hand, lengthens its lifespan since it lacks any form of recovery. Usage Tips
========
Alolan Grimer should spam Knock Off most of time because it is a powerful STAB move with great utility and good chance of poisoning; it should use Knock Off even if a Fairy-type such as Snubbull is switching in, because the ability to remove its item helps punishing it with Poison Jab or Gunk Shot later; Knock Off is also a good source of chip damage, increasing the chances to OHKO with Poison Jab. Alolan Grimer is able to live most powerful hits thanks to its typing and its bulk: however, keep in mind that Alolan Grimer lacks a solid form of recovery beside Berry Juice. Finally, be ware of Volt Switch / U-Turn VoltTurn, which that (assuming all VoltTurn users can bring diglett in, this should be changed, otherwise leave it as that) can bring Diglett in, as Alolan Grimer is very vulnerable to it.

Team Options
========
Alolan Grimer can pair well with the majority of setup sweepers of the tier: Nasty Plot Vullaby is a exceptional partner, and forms a Dark-type core with Alolan Grimer; it appreciates Knock Off and the ability to remove Fairy-types thanks to its Poison-typing Alolan Grimer's Poison typing (this is unclear otherwise). On the other hand, Alolan Grimer loves Vullaby's ability to switch into Ground-type moves. Shell Smash Tirtouga pairs well with Alolan Grimer, because Alolan Grimer can remove opposing Eviolite and check Grass-types; in exchange, Tirtouga checks some Ground-types and picks off Diglett when its Focus Sash has been broken. Alolan Grimer struggles a lot against Ground-types such as Diglett, Mudbray, and Hippopotas because they can KO it; powerful attackers with access to priority moves, such as Dragon Dance Corphish and Carvanha make for great partners, picking off Diglett and severely denting Mudbray and Hippopotas. Cleric support is deeply appreciated because Alolan Grimer has not a no solid form of recovery beside Berry Juice, (RC) and suffers from burns: Spritzee can be a good partner, providing both Wish and Aromatherapy to heal Alolan Grimer. Snubbull can enhance Alolan Grimer's physical bulk thanks to Intimidate, (RC) and provide Heal Bell support to remove burns. Z-Memento Cottonee can restore Alolan Grimer's health when its health it is low, (RC) and can soften an opposing sweeper; it can also take on the Ground-type Alolan Grimer hates. Fighting-types appreciate Alolan Grimer as a Psychic-, Ghost- and Fairy-type check; Timburr, Mienfoo, (AC) and Pancham pair well with Alolan Grimer, removing the Steel-types that check Alolan Grimer. Poison Jab is its secondary STAB move, boasting an impressive 51% chance of poisoning the target while also hitting Fairy-types supereffectively super effectively. On the other hand, Gunk Shot has less chances of poisoning than Poison Jab, but packs more power and can OHKO standard Spritzee after Stealth Rock and non-Eviolite Snubbull at -1 Attack, (RC) while having a small chance to OHKO Eviolite Snubbull.

Set Details
========
196 EVs in Attack make Alolan Grimer hit very hard and an Adamant nature further boosts it, letting it hit 18 Attack. Eviolite boosts Alolan Grimer defenses: with this item, it has a good chance to live an Earthquake from Jolly Life Orb Diglett, (RC) while always living one from the Focus Sash variant; on the special side, it has a very small chance of being 3HKOed by Focus Sash Abra Dazzling Gleam, (RC) while never being 2HKOed by the Life Orb variant. Poison Touch is its best ability because it can poison opponents foes when making contact, (RC) and complements very well with Poison Jab. An EV spreads spread of 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD lets Alolan Grimer check Abra and Gastly more reliably but loses some needed physical bulk; alternatively, a spread of 36 HP / 36 Atk / 196 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD grants bigger mixed bulk to avoid most OHKOs, but at the cost of significant offensive presence.

Usage Tips
========
Unlike the Pursuit trap set, this Alolan Grimer set can last longer with lesser support, as it can recover HP and heal itself with Rest. Knock Off is the move to spam the most because it removes opposing items and has a good chance of poisoning. Alolan Grimer should enter the field on a move it resists or is immune to, such as Psychic- or Grass-type moves because even thought this set is quite bulky, it dislikes taking too much damage. It can come in on Psychic-types like Abra, Grass-types like Foongus or Pumpkaboo-XL, Ghost-types like Gastly, and Fairy-types like Spritzee. Thanks to Sleep Talk, this Alolan Grimer set can come in on Foongus and Morelull to absorb Spore; Foongus has nothing to use against Alolan Grimer, while Morelull is outsped and OHKOed by its Poison-type STAB moves (don't use STAB as a noun).

Team Options
========
Hazard setters pair well with Alolan Grimer because it appreciates the chip damage provided by Stealth Rock and Spikes. Defensive Tirtouga can set up Stealth Rock and, to a lesser extent, scare away Diglett with Aqua Jet. Ferroseed can set up Stealth Rock and Spikes. Drilbur can set up Stealth Rock, (RC) and remove it from Alolan Grimer's side of the field with Rapid Spin; in exchange, Alolan Grimer checks Grass-types for Drilbur. This Alolan Grimer's Alolan Grimer variant depends less on Wish support than the Pursuit trap set; however, a cleric can be used to heal Alolan Grimer when it is asleep, or when it can't pull a Rest off; Spritzee and Snubbull can fill this role well, using Aromatherapy or Heal Bell to restore Alolan Grimer. Grass-types can alleviate its weakness to Ground-type moves, making Pumpkaboo-XL and Foongus good teammates.

Other Options

Snarl can hit Abra and Gastly behind a Substitute, but Alolan Grimer's Special Attack is very low, meaning it won't hit hard. For the Berry Juice set, Thief can be used once its item has been used; however, Knock Off is usually better because it packs more power. Alolan Grimer can run a Rock Polish set, but it lacks the power to OHKO most opponents, (RC) and will be outsped by most Choice Scarf users even at +2 if it runs Adamant nature. Stone Edge can be used to hit Flying-types such as Archen and Vullaby hard, but both dislike losing their items, (RC) and Alolan Grimer has issues fitting it in a set; the Pursuit trap set needs Shadow Sneak or Fire Blast, and the RestTalk set has room only for its STAB combination. Curse can be used in the RestTalk set, making Alolan Grimer able to boost its physical presence; however, it has to forgo one of its STAB moves, which is hard to justify; if Alolan Grimer forgoes Knock Off, then Steel-types totally wall it; if it forgoes Poison Jab or Gunk Shot, then Fighting- and Fairy-types hard check it. Flamethrower can be used in the Pursuit trap set instead of FIre Blast Fire Blast for more accuracy, as it 2HKOes standard Ferroseed anyway; however, it is significantly weaker when hitting Pawniard and Magnemite. Taunt can shut opposing walls, but it's unreliable due to Alolan Grimer low Speed, and also because Alolan Grimer can damage walls with Knock Off.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Diglett is a nightmare for Alolan Grimer because it can trap and KO it with Earthquake after Stealth Rock; Mudbray can take any hit from Alolan Grimer and retaliate with an Earthquake; RestTalk variants can also get around Poison poison; Hippopotas can tank any hit thrown by Alolan Grimer, and KO it with Earthquake; Alolan Grimer also dislikes the sand damage and the possible Stealth Rock Hippopotas can set up. However, Hippopotas does not like being poisoned by Alolan Grimer's moves, (RC) and hates losing its Eviolite.

**Steel-types**: Even though they do not appreciate Knock Off, Steel-types can check Alolan Grimer quite well. Pawniard is a prime example, as it completely stops the RestTalk set and can check the Pursuit trap set if it lacks Fire Blast. Magnemite does not appreciate Knock Off (especially Berry Juice variants) and gets 2HKOed by Fire Blast, but can 2HKO Alolan Grimer with Thunderbolt or pivot out with Volt Switch, gaining momentum.

**Rock-types**: Rock-types resist Poison Jab and Gunk Shot, making it hard for Alolan Grimer to hit them hard. Onix can scare Alolan Grimer away, using it as setup bait for its Stealth Rock. Archen resists its Poison-type moves and can threaten it with Earthquake, but it should be wary of Knock Off. Shell Smash users such as Omanyte and Tirtouga can use Alolan Grimer as setup bait for a Shell Smash because it lacks a solid option against them.

**Croagunk**: Croagunk completely stops Alolan Grimer no matter what set it runs; it resists both its STABs STAB moves, is immune to Poison by virtue of its typing, has a very small chance of being 3HKOed by Fire Blast even factoring Dry Skin, and can use Alolan Grimer as setup bait for Nasty Plot or Bulk Up.

**Status Ailments and Residual Damage**: The Pursuit trap set suffers from Burns burns and entry hazards because it lacks a form of recovery beside Berry Juice. Weather damage such as sand and hail, (RC) and entry hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock, (RC) constantly reduce Alolan Grimer's HP.[/quote]

However, it does have some downfalls; it is quite slow, meaning that it almost always has to take a hit before moving,. Maximum Attack investment is required to make Alolan Grimer hit as hard as possible, and an Adamant nature should be used if Alolan Grimer forgoes Fire Blast because it that allows it to Speed tie with standard Spritzee and KO it before it moves if the Speed tie is won. A Brave nature, on the other hand, boosts its Attack without reducing its Special Attack; however, it gets outsped by Spritzee. The leftover EVs are dumped into its defensive stats because it doesn't need Speed at all: they guarantee that Alolan Grimer is never 2HKOed by Life Orb Abra's Dazzling Gleam and, for Eviolite variants, that is never OHKOed by Jolly Sash Diglett's Earthquake. As mentioned before, Eviolite is the prime item choice because it boosts Alolan Grimer's defenses and so as to let it take hits better (Eviolite itself doesn't let it take hits better). Berry Juice, on the other hand, lengthens its lifespan, (AC) since it lacks any form of recovery. Pursuit severely dents fleeing opponents foes, and the added bonus of a possible possibly poisoning on them is very useful because it deals some chip damage. 196 EVs in Attack and an Adamant nature make Alolan Grimer hit very hard and an Adamant nature further boosts it, letting it hit reaching 18 Attack. Eviolite boosts Alolan Grimer's defenses: with this item, it has a good chance to live survive an Earthquake from Jolly Life Orb Diglett, (RC) while always living surviving one from the Focus Sash variant; on the special side with its Special Defense (there aren't sides to the defenses), it has a very small chance of being 3HKOed by Focus Sash Abra's Dazzling Gleam, (RC) while never being 2HKOed by the Life Orb variant. Poison Touch is its Alolan Grimer's best ability because it can poison opponents foes when making contact, and which complements very well with Poison Jab very well. An EV spreads of 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD lets Alolan Grimer check Abra and Gastly more reliably but loses some needed physical bulk; alternatively, a spread of 36 HP / 36 Atk / 196 Def / 36 SpA / 196 SpD grants bigger better mixed bulk to avoid most OHKOs, (RC) but at the cost of significant offensive presence.

Usage Tips

(add line of space)
Unlike the Pursuit trap set, this Alolan Grimer set can last longer with lesser (lesser implies lower quality support) support, as it can recover HP and heal itself with Rest. Knock Off is the move to spam the most because it removes opposing foes' items and has a good chance of poisoning. Alolan Grimer should enter the field on a move it resists or is immune to, such as Psychic- or Grass-type moves, (AC) because even thought this set is quite bulky, it dislikes taking too much damage (maybe mention that it dislikes taking too much damage while switching in. disliking taking too much damage, in general, is a given.). It can come in on Psychic-types like Abra, Grass-types like Foongus or and Pumpkaboo-XL, Ghost-types like Gastly, and Fairy-types like Spritzee. Thanks to Sleep Talk, this Alolan Grimer set can come in on Foongus and Morelull to absorb Spore; Foongus has nothing to use against threaten Alolan Grimer with, while Morelull is outsped and OHKOed by its Alolan Grimer's Poison-type STAB move.

Team Options

(add line of space)
Even though Alolan Grimer can tank powerful hits, it has issues against Ground-types such as Mudbray and Diglett. This makes strong Water-type attackers with access to priority moves, such as Dragon Dance Corphish and Carvanha, great partners because they can pick off Diglett and severely hurt Mudbray. Entry hazard setters pair well with Alolan Grimer because it appreciates the chip damage provided by Stealth Rock and Spikes.; (period->semicolon) defensive Tirtouga can set up Stealth Rock and, to a lesser extent, scare away threaten Diglett with Aqua Jet.; (period->semicolon) Ferroseed can set up Stealth Rock and Spikes.; (period->semicolon) and Drilbur can set up Stealth Rock, (RC) and remove it entry hazards from Alolan Grimer's side of the field with Rapid Spin; in exchange, while Alolan Grimer checks Grass-types for Drilbur. This Alolan Grimer's variant depends less on Wish support than the Pursuit trap set; however, but a cleric can be used to heal Alolan Grimer when it is asleep, (RC) or when it unable to use can't pull a Rest off; Spritzee and or Snubbull can fill this role well, using Aromatherapy or Heal Bell to restore Alolan Grimer. Grass-types can alleviate its weakness to Ground-type moves, making Pumpkaboo-XL and Foongus good teammates.

Snarl can hit Abra and Gastly behind a Substitute, but Alolan Grimer's Special Attack is very low, meaning it won't hit hard. For the Berry Juice set, Thief can be used once its Alolan Grimer's item has been used; however, Knock Off is usually better because it packs more power. Alolan Grimer can run a Rock Polish set, but it lacks the power to OHKO most opponents foes, (RC) and will be outsped by most Choice Scarf users even at +2 if it runs an Adamant nature. Stone Edge can be used to hit Flying-types such as Archen and Vullaby hard, but both dislike losing their items, and Alolan Grimer has issues fitting it into a set; the Pursuit trap set needs Shadow Sneak or Fire Blast, and the RestTalk set has room only for its STAB combination moves. Curse can be used in the RestTalk set, making allowing Alolan Grimer able to boost its physical presence Attack and Defense; however, it has to forgo one of its STAB moves, which is hard to justify; if Alolan Grimer forgoes Knock Off, then Steel-types totally wall it; if it forgoes Poison Jab or Gunk Shot, then Fighting- and Fairy-types hard check it. Flamethrower can be used in the Pursuit trap set instead of FIre Fire Blast for more accuracy, as it still 2HKOes standard Ferroseed anyway; however, it is significantly weaker when hitting Pawniard and Magnemite. Taunt can shut down opposing walls, but it's unreliable due to Alolan Grimer's low Speed, (RC) and also because Alolan Grimer can damage walls with Knock Off.

Checks and Counters
===================
(add line of space)
**Ground-types**: Diglett is a nightmare for Alolan Grimer, (RC) because it can trap and KO it Alolan Grimer with Earthquake after Stealth Rock;. (semicolon->period) Mudbray can take any hit from Alolan Grimer and retaliate with an Earthquake; RestTalk variants can also get around poison;. (semicolon->period) Hippopotas can tank any hit thrown by from Alolan Grimer, (RC) and KO it with Earthquake; Alolan Grimer also dislikes the sand damage and the possible Stealth Rock Hippopotas can set up.

Magnemite does not appreciate Knock Off (especially Berry Juice variants) and gets 2HKOed by Fire Blast, (RC) but can 2HKO Alolan Grimer with Thunderbolt or pivot out with Volt Switch, gaining momentum.

**Rock-types**: Rock-types resist Poison Jab and Gunk Shot, making it hard for Alolan Grimer to hit them hard. Onix can scare force Alolan Grimer away out, using it as setup bait for its to set up Stealth Rock. Archen resists its Poison-type moves and can threaten it with Earthquake, (RC) but it (just makes it clearer without the additional "it") should be wary of Knock Off. Shell Smash users such as Omanyte and Tirtouga can use Alolan Grimer as setup bait for a Shell Smash because it lacks a solid option against them.

**Croagunk**: Croagunk completely stops Alolan Grimer no matter what the set it runs (makes it clearer what the later "it"s refer to); it resists both its of Alolan Grimer's STABs moves, is immune to poison by virtue of its typing, has a very small chance of being 3HKOed by Fire Blast even factoring in Dry Skin, and can use Alolan Grimer as setup bait for Nasty Plot or Bulk Up.

**Status Ailments and Residual Damage **: The Pursuit trap set suffers from Burns and entry hazards residual damage because it lacks a form of recovery besides Berry Juice. Weather damage such as from sand and hail, and entry hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock, and burns constantly (gradually might be better) (yeah, OP probably means "continually") reduce Alolan Grimer's HP (burn damage is the only thing status related mentioned, which also comes under residual damage, so assuming that's your focus here).

[OVERVIEW]

Alolan Grimer boasts a Poison / Dark typing, which grants it a sole weakness to Ground.

Moves
========

Alternatively, Fire Blast hits the Steel-types that check Alolan Grimer, with a small chance to OHKO Ferroseed after one layer of Spike and a guaranteed 2HKO on non-Eviolite Magnemite and Pawniard. Finally, Memento can be used when Alolan Grimer has done its job, reducing the opponent's offensive pressure and easing the setup of sweepers such as Nasty Plot Vullaby, Shell Smash Shellder, and Swords Dance Pawniard.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack investment is required to make Alolan Grimer hit as hard as possible, and an Adamant nature should be used if Alolan Grimer forgoes Fire Blast because that allows it to Speed tie with standard Spritzee and KO it before it moves if the Speed tie is won. A Brave nature, on the other hand, boosts its Attack without reducing its Special Attack; however, it gets outsped by Spritzee. The leftover EVs are dumped into its defensive stats because it doesn't need Speed at all; they guarantee that Alolan Grimer is never 2HKOed by Life Orb Abra's Dazzling Gleam and, for Eviolite variants, never OHKOed by Jolly Sash Diglett's Earthquake. Eviolite is the prime item choice because it boosts Alolan Grimer's defenses so as to let it take hits better.

Usage Tips
========

========

Alolan Grimer can pair well with the majority of setup sweepers of the tier: Nasty Plot Vullaby is an exceptional partner and forms a Dark-type core with Alolan Grimer; Vullaby appreciates Alolan Grimer's Knock Off and ability to remove Fairy-types thanks to its Poison typing. On the other hand, Alolan Grimer loves Vullaby's ability to switch into Ground-type moves.

Curse can be used in on the RestTalk set, allowing Alolan Grimer to boost its Attack and Defense; however, it has to forgo one of its STAB moves, which is hard to justify; if Alolan Grimer forgoes Knock Off, then Steel-types totally wall it; if it forgoes Poison Jab or Gunk Shot, then Fighting- and Fairy-types hard check it.

===================

Onix can force Alolan Grimer out, using it to set up Stealth Rock. Archen resists its Alolan Grimer's Poison-type moves and can threaten it with Earthquake but should be wary of Knock Off.

**Residual Damage **: The Pursuit trap set suffers from residual damage because it lacks a form of recovery besides Berry Juice. Weather damage such as from sand and hail, entry hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock, and burns constantly reduce Alolan Grimer's HP.

took the time to implement the second gp check since the original writer went inactive, agrime is a cool mon so lets get this analysis on site as quick as possible. and sorry if a user like me isnt supposed to do this. tagging OP Corporal Levi macle to implement this into op, change title, & upload

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Grass-types can alleviate its weakness to Ground-type moves, making Pumpkaboo-XL and Foongus good teammates.
