Announcement For Writers

An increasing number of analyses have been succumbing to a couple of minor, similar problems recently which make it harder for the QC process, mainly stemming due to lack of important content. These may seem small but in reality they are necessary for the analysis. Please remember to ensure that these two suggestions are present in your analyses.

  1. All Pokemon overviews must state the role of the Pokemon in the metagame. This is important because an overview should not just be a listing of a Pokemon's objective characteristics, it should be an informative representation of a Pokemon in the tier it's written for. This doesn't mean forgoing objective information, but a Pokemon's overview should always specify the sets it runs and usually the teams they fit on, and defensive Pokemon need examples of common Pokemon that they wall. If the Pokemon has a specific niche, say it, don't just continue listing every weakness and resistance Bulbapedia says. For example, the latter paragraph here is much better than the former (note these wouldn't be full overviews, just excerpts):
    • Ninetales has common weaknesses to Rock-, Water-, and Ground-typed attacks, but it gets Nasty Plot and Energy Ball, and Psyshock so it can sweep very well. It's base 100 Speed is reasonable but its base Special Attack is lower, so it can be weak without a boost.
    • As one of the only Fire-types in the tier, Ninetales has a valuable niche in the PU metagame as a Nasty Plot sweeper, which utilizes Ninetales's base 100 Speed and decent bulk to find setup opportunities, and its coverage in Psyshock and Energy Ball to back up its Fire-type STAB move. Ninetales is one of few Pokemon that can threaten out the Grass-types of the tier, especially Serperior, Tangela, and Roselia. However, stall teams can usually deal with it pretty well as Licklicky and [insert Ninetales check] are common on these teams, and can defeat it upon switching in.
  2. Checks and Counters should be informative. You may see QC members telling users to "beef up their checks and counters". This simply means to elaborate on the checks and counters. It is one thing to say "Offensive pressure is good because it dissuades Ninetales from setting up", or "Tangela and Roselia counter Serperior most of the time.", and it is another to talk about specific examples, specific situations, how x mon counters x mon. Toxic an answer? Give Toxic users. whether they can switch in or not, are they faster than the Serperior can Sub? "Tangela counters Serperior pretty well, especially the common CM HP Rock variants and the physical ones as well, provided it is running HP Fire to actually damage Serperior. However, if Serperior is CM HP Fire, Tangela is in for a tough ride, and it is important to remember that the physical sets may Knock Off its Eviolite, reducing its bulk for the rest of the battle."
Don't be alarmed by the size of the text, and you guys are definitely doing a great job so far with OM C&C. These are just a couple of tips to keep an eye on during your skeletons and write-ups. Keep up the good work!
