Riolu [Male] [Scrappy]
KethQtI.jpg
Scrappy is GP's first Pokemon, and best friend for life. Scrappy and GP are almost complete mirrors of each other, and seemed destined to be together from their first meeting, that fateful day in the ancient Sinnoh rock quarry... But that's another story for another time! Now it's time for fun! Scrappy is an incredibly energetic Pokemon, as well as very trusting towards anyone he meets. He's a simple Pokemon, really. He does what's fun, and is always working to cheer up his friends when they feel down. He's playful, boisterous, and a self-entitled "Super-Duper-Party-Planner". All in all, Scrappy is in it for the fun, and for his social needs, and will always be there to put a smile on your face. And for the scarves. He loves scarves.
Types: Fighting
Abilities:
Inner Focus (Passive) When an opponent attempts to flinch this Pokemon, it stands firm and continues its attack. If it has another ability that would be activated by flinching, that ability activates
Steadfast (Passive) If this Pokemon is flinched, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases its Speed (adjusting the natural stage) by one (1) stage to make up the difference.
Prankster (H) (Passive) (Locked) The Pokemon is always prepared for engaging in sneaky tactics and trickery, giving its non-damaging attacks a +1 increase in priority level. Dark-types are immune to all non-damaging attacks (as well as all moves summoned by a non-damaging move) used by a Pokémon with this ability.

Larvesta [Female] [Coloratura]
Coloratura was always an odd, somewhat contradictory Pokemon. Even her typing is a contradiction. (I mean, c'mon. Imagine a bug on fire.) Coloratura is always seeking fame and attention from big crowds, but is quite modest, and even a little shy when you meet her face-to-face. Nevertheless, she has lots of confidence, and a burning desire to put on a show for her fans. But she has no greater love than that towards her friends and family, with her intense Unova patriotism coming in close second. She and GP still remain in the Sinnoh Pokemon Contest Hall of Fame, their nomination there being inspired by both their strong connection to each other, and Coloratura's incredible shows with beautiful flames and air-rippling Bug Buzzes. Just know that when Coloratura wants to put on a show, she really puts on a show.
Types: Fire/Bug
Abilities: Flame Body (Passive) This Pokemon's external temperature is kept at such a high level that any contact attack used on this Pokemon has a 30% chance of burning the opponent.
Swarm (H) (Passive) (Locked) When this Pokemon's HP is lower than 33% (flat), the Base Attack Power of any Bug-typed attack is increased by 3. (eg Silver Wind goes from 6 to 9, X-Scissor from 8 to 11)
Nature: Modest (+1 SpA, -1 Atk)

Young miss? Good teacher, please excuse my taking offense at such matters, but I assure you, my name belongs under the category of "ironically misleading". *bows* Samuel here, under your valued tutelage! I'm excited to learn!

"Nice catch on the Protect substitution. Always remember to make a Protect sub nonconsecutive by putting '[Nonconsecutive]' in front of it, or something to that effect. Still, the crash damage from HJK hurts Riolu quite a bit. Also, Screech and other stat-changing moves are pretty lackluster in ASB because of how the damage formula works. Most times, you're better off just attacking. -2 Def adds 4 extra damage to HJK, but Focus Blast would've dealt 15 damage and given you the HP lead."

"Now it's your turn to order. Pick your subs carefully."

IF Lotad is under the effect of Protect when you are to act, THEN use Swords Dance first instance, Feint second instance, pushing back each time.
IF Lotad is to use a damaging Grass-Type combo, THEN use Detect that action, and push back actions.

Spr_B2W2_Cress.png

"Good. It seems like you have a solid grasp on substitution rules. But Protect usually isn't a very threatening move. In ordinary cases, there's no need to sub for it, especially in a simple damage race like this one. A move like Counter, for instance, is much higher on the thread list."

"While you did manage to kill Lotad without taking much damage, you paid quite a cost for it. KOing on a combo means that you will have to cool down on the next round, which leaves you especially vulnerable. Also, Leech Life + Leech Life is expensive in terms of energy, draining almost half of your EN in one move."

094.png

Was it the only way to KO Lotad in one turn, or would using a move, specifically Struggle Bug, over two actions have put me in a slightly better position?
636.png

I have to feel like, in hindsight, it would have.

Larvesta:
Cooldown --> Sunny Day --> Fire Blast
IF Aron is to use a damaging Rock-type combo A3, AND you would be KOd by it, THEN Dodge that action.
IF Aron is under the effect of Protect when you are to act A3, THEN use Morning Sun.

...
Boy, I don't feel good about this.

You don't feel good about this??? I might have to dodge a Head Smash!!!

"Nice job. You've shown that you have a solid grasp on the game's mechanics. There are a couple things for you to keep in mind in the future.

"If you are ordering first and you did not initiate a switch phase in the previous round, you can initiate a switch phase and switch out your Pokemon. If your opponent initiates a switch phase, you can counterswitch a different Pokemon in, but you'll have to order first if you do."

"Scan your opponent's movepool for threatening moves like Counter, Bide, Encore, or Taunt that can disrupt your strategies or deal a lot of damage."

"Overall, you did a very good job. Play a couple matches with other people, then let me know when you want to start the second battle that goes in-depth about ASB strategy. Now here are your rewards."
