<Crawdaunt> [Rob] (Male)
Nature: Brave (+Attack, -15% Speed, -10% Evasion)
Type: Water/Dark

Water: Water STAB; Ignores arena restrictions on Water attacks that require an external water source. Evasive Diving reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.

Dark: Dark STAB; ignores Attract and Confusion status entirely when using Dark-type damaging and non-damaging attacks.

About: Rob was the first pokemon ever caught by Matt ,using it's Double-Team and Trump-Card techniches, he slowy gained an advantage against Steve and was about to easily defeat him, until being caught off-guard by an extremely powerfull Reversal combo, weakning him enough to be captured. Being prety much powerless against the lobster pokemon, Steve grew determined to become stronger.
Similary to the others, he cares deeply about his friends, and is willing to risk his life for them if necessary.....he is also a huge nerd, his favorite super-heroes being Superman, Spider-Man and Aquaman.
After a battle with Itsumo and his minions, Rob was left in the brink of death, which led his teammates to seek revenge on Itsumo. After several weeks, Rob fully recovered from the damage to his spine and is back to action, still determined to save Chuck.

Abilities:
Hyper Cutter (Passive):
This Pokemon always keeps its claws/teeth/pincers extremely sharp, and thus cannot have its attack reduced.

Shell Armor (Passive): This Pokemon’s thick, bony outer shell prevents it from taking critical hits.

Adaptability (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED, Passive): The moves that match this Pokemon’s type have their Base Attack Power increased by two (2).

Your Fling/Thief strategy was interesting and one I certainly did not see coming. However, overall, the orders you made last round were not optimal.

First, the Fling/Thief strategy was somewhat underwhelming. Yes, Fling had 12 BAP, but the lack of STAB, super-effectiveness, and Magmortar's unimpressive Atk stat made the damage rather low. And losing your item is not something to be taken lightly. Magmarizer has great effects, boosting both of Magmortar's offenses and offering a nice boost to the punch moves that Magmortar relies on for coverage. I'd say that the meager 13.5 damage from Fling was not worth it. Neither was the Thief. Thief did even lower damage, and the loss of Ludicolo's Water Stone was not overly detrimental to Ludicolo. Water Stone's activations of Rain Dish and Swift Swim are nice, but not enough to merit a two-turn combo.

Case in point, you're already behind by 20 HP, which is not insignificant, and you are still stuck in a bad-matchup.

Ludicolo vs Magmortar is not a good matchup for you. When you're in a bad matchup, your first priority should be escaping the matchup while minimizing the damage that you take. Yes, you can switch out since you order first next round, but I can counterswitch and put you in a bad matchup all over again. The best thing to do is to switch without letting me counterswitch, through trapping (i.e. Fire Spin), switch-forcing (i.e. Roar), or self-switching (i.e. U-Turn) moves. Magmortar doesn't have switch-forcing moves, and I locked you out of trapping moves by making a substitution for Fire Spin, but Magmortar does have an excellent self-switching move in Teleport. In our ASB, Teleport (Switch) functions as a non-damaging U-Turn, letting you switch out next round and denying me the opportunity to counterswitch.

Magmortar can't keep up with Ludicolo's damage. How do you keep yourself from losing the damage race? Easy: don't damage race at all! If your orders were Protect | Teleport (Switch) | Protect, I'd still have an HP lead, but you'd avoid taking too much damage and you'd be in a much better matchup for the next round, giving you the opportunity to dish out a lot of damage to me in return.

"There's no doubt that Sunny Day helps you out quite a bit, by increasing your Fire damage and decreasing my Water damage. But using status moves like that in your main orders when ordering first can be tricky, since it leaves you vulnerable for an action. That means that it gives me a free action to use my tricks as well, say, Rain Dance. Same goes for Rest. It's powerful, but it leaves you open for an action. And if I wake you up A2 by dealing 18 or more damage, then you won't recover any HP, since recovery occurs at the very end of the action. So I'd have gotten a free action of damage. Also, combos are fun. They're useful for the higher damage they deal, the adjusted -2 priority, and abusing substitutions. Here, I'm making use of the higher damage to make you wake up from Rest and the -2 priority to make the attack hit after you go to sleep so that you don't get to take advantage of Rest's recovery."

"The best choice for this round would have probably been to switch out. Yes, I would've counterswitched, but then you'd at least get to order second again and try again for matchup control. The only thing worse than ordering second in a bad matchup is ordering first in a bad matchup."

"Scald does enough damage to KO Magmortar, and Swift Swim allows Ludicolo to outspeed ad kill Magmortar before it could act. Since Whirlpool does enough damage to KO you as well, so you couldn't use Endure, the best thing for you to have done would be a priority move, Mach Punch (or Mach Punch + Mach Punch combo) to get some damage on Ludicolo before Magmortar dies. On the flip side, if you ever find yourself in my situation, where you're battling a Pokemon that's going to die before it acts A1, it'd be in your best interest to make a substitution for damaging priority combos."

"Sorry. Dive isn't going to help you here. Because Whimsicott outspeeds Crawdaunt and because Sun Stone allows Whimsicott to use Solarbeam without charge at priority 0, you still get hit. The Sludge Wave combo is a nice idea, since it deals more damage than using Sludge Wave twice. Keep in mind that combos incur cooldown. Even if you'd lived to use Sludge Wave combo, you wouldn't be able to use Recover Combo because you'd be in cooldown on the next action. Also, it's usually a bad idea of combo A3, since that means you have to have your cooldown on the next round, leaving you especially vulnerable, since your opponent can take advantage of it. The best course of action should probably have been Endure | Sludge Wave | Sludge Wave, since Endure would allow you to survive Whimsicott's attacks and counter back with your Sludge Waves."

"You had a rocky start, but you did much better near the end. Here are some tips to keep in mind."
  • When you're up against a VERY bad match-up, your priority is get out with as little damage as possible. Spam Protect if necessary to get to a better match-up.
  • Learn the most dangerous moves and what they can do. In this battle, it was Counter that was extra dangerous, but in the future, you'll encounter Encore, Endure, Taunt, Torment, and much more.
  • If you want to use tricks like Sunny Day or Rest, especially when ordering first, watch out for ways that your opponent can abuse your the turn of vulnerability that those moves create, and always ask yourself whether those moves will actually do a better job than spamming STAB or super-effective moves. Rest and Sunny Day created openings for me to abuse in this battle, so try not to let those happen again. Use substitutions to prevent me from using Rain Dance when you Sunny Day, for example.
