"You've been here for quite a while, so it's time for us to have some fun. Think of this as a sneak peak into ASB's late-game play. Try your best to put your Pokemon into favorable matchups. Have fun, and do your best: the first round sets the tone for the rest of the match."

Quarrel orders

Protean seems pretty strong while ordering second, and I don't think Kecleon has any bad matchups here (though I'd have no idea how to tell), so...
kecleon.png

Kecleon @ Everstone

Let's start off strong.

8ycom1_th.png

"Yes, Protean is indeed a very powerful ability, and Kecleon is uniquely threatening because of its enormous movepool. Still, it has a few weaknesses that you'll need to look out for."

klefki.png

Klefki @ RageCandyBar
[Activate RageCandyBar] Flash Cannon | Spikes | Dazzling Gleam
If Kecleon is under the effects of Magic Coat and Klefki is to use Spikes, then Mirror Shot and push back.
If Kecleon uses Stealth Rock and not in combination, then use [Activate RageCandyBar] Magic Coat and push back.
If Kecleon is Fire-type and Klefki is not to use Spikes, then use [Activate RageCandyBar] Hidden Power.

Thunder Wave ~ Flamethrower ~ Dig
IF Thunder Wave misses a1 THEN Thunder Wave a2.

No idea if this is optimal, but let's try it?

8ycom1_th.png

"Lowering your opponent's speed to evade their attack with a D/E move is a fairly common strategy that's especially helpful when you have a super-effective D/E move. But with something as slow as Kecleon, that isn't always possible. RageCandyBar increases Klefki's speed just enough to prevent it from being outsped.

"One particular problem Protean Pokemon have is being item-dependent. Without Everstone providing a +2 boost to all moves, Kecleon hits only as hard as a Pokemon with Rank 5 offenses using a coverage move, so you'll need to protect your item and watch out for item-disrupting things like Knock Off, Thief, or Magician. Since RageCandyBar is a consumable item, Klefki was able to use it, then steal your item with Magician, getting the benefits of 2 items. Be wary of Spikes too. Passive damage can add up quickly."

Quarrel orders

...In my defense, I was in the mindset that Paralysis was 1/4 (even though I know that it's 1/2). Oh well.

Fake Out ~ Fire Blast ~ Stealth Rock
IF Magic Coat when you are to use Stealth Rock, THEN Fire Punch and push back.
IF Spikes AND not in a combo THEN Magic Coat and push back.
IF Thunder Wave a2 or a3 AND not in a combo AND nonconsecutive THEN Protect and push back.

I don't know if I quite have my priorities straight here, but I figure this accomplishes what I'm aiming for. Kecleon seems a lot more vulnerable when ordering first, so trying to stall for time a bit with Fake Out seems smart - Fire Blast and Fire Punch are preferred to Flamethrower so I can't get Tormented, and the last sub is so, once RCB expires, I'm not para'd and can thus outspeed. Other two subs are for the hazard game. There's probably a better way to sub against Thunder Wave here, but if you wanna TWave -> TWave I'm fine with that.

8ycom1_th.png

"Nice orders. Hazard-setting, this early in the battle, should be a top priority. You might've wanted to set Stealth Rock as your A1 order, to ensure that it's used. Otherwise, I can activate your subs to bump it off the list."

Spent a while looking for something better to do, but couldn't find anything. This is good enough, regardless.

"Shadow Sneak + Shadow Sneak only deals 13.5 damage, but it potentially leaves me an opening to set up Stealth Rock on the cooldown action. Also, you ENKO yourself A3 without being able to successfully use the combination (you don't meet the base energy requirement, which is the cost of using a move twice with factors like consecutive EN penalty accounted for). It's never a good idea to get careless on a 'suicide' round, unless you want to give your opponent free setup actions."

IF I'm bad at math and Marowak has more than 21.5 health a2 AND Earth Power is not disabled THEN Earth Power.
IF Earth Power is disabled a3 THEN Earthquake.

I have no idea why my subs would be necessary... But, well, you've seen how my "what could go wrong?" ends up going wrong multiple times.

"You might've wanted to use Roar. Sure, Marowak is dead now, but you can be 100% certain that Dewgong is coming to replace it. Roar would've given you a chance to force Klefki in, royally screwing me over. Subbing for Anger Point activation is also fun, in the off chance that you get crit and can start spamming +6 Atk Earthquakes."

If Dewgong is tormented A3, then use Ice Beam.

Protect ~ Thunder ~ Thunderbolt
IF Shield Dust protects from Fake Out flinch, THEN Thunderbolt ~ Discharge ~ Thunderbolt instead.

I was looking for a way to kill Dewgong this round, but without ending up on cooldowns, this is the closest I could get reliably (unless I'm missing something, which I likely am). Protect a1 is because I'm more concerned about my health vs Klefki (especially after taking 2 SE STAB Blizzards) than my energy, and this way I order first against Dewgong next round, which means I can likely get a chance to order second vs Klefki.

I doubt I'm winnin this, but let's try anyway.

So, uh, that's nice.

Flamethrower ~ Fire Blast ~ Flamethrower
IF damaging Fairy-type combo, THEN Protect. Push back. Only do this once.
IF Light Screen AND you are not under the effects of Light Screen THEN Light Screen. Only do this once.
IF you are under the effects of Torment a3, THEN Incinerate.

IDK if that's the best way to deal with Light Screen - just trying to neutralize it - but let's see how this goes. also a full para would be grand

"Aside from a couple mistakes made from simple carelessness (and ugh, don't I know about that) you did very well. You seem to be very alert for threatening disruptive moves, and you've got your priorities straight with setting up entry hazards. Still, you didn't do too grew in terms of match-up control. For the majority of the match, your Pokemon were trapped in their worst matchups, i.e. Kecleon vs Klefki and Camerupt vs Dewgong. I was a little... unconventional in my team choices, so it wasn't extremely punishing for you, but in many instances, being in a bad match-up is something to be avoided at all cost. In the future, you should make use of moves like U-Turn, Fire Spin, Roar, or Block to set up advantageous match-ups for your Pokemon."

"In our next match, we'll be using our own Pokemon. I promise you that you will not see Pokemon like Klefki there. In the meantime, I'll be nursing my shattered pride, while you enjoy these fabulous rewards."
