(Mega Pidgeot sprite source here!)

Just a heads up - because Mega Pidgeot hasn't actually been released yet, I haven't been able to actually test this team outside battling against my friends so I have no clue how this team would do if I attempted to ladder with it.

But anyways, here's the team in more detail, and my thought process behind it.

uJX4aVn.png

Pidgeot @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Tangled Feet / No Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Heat Wave
- Hurricane
- Uproar
- Roost

Pidgeot's special movepool is pretty shallow, but it can make good use of what it has. No Guard makes Pidgeot's Heat Wave and Hurricane never miss, which is awesome, especially for Hurricane, which is the strongest special Flying move Pidgeot has access to, and the 30% chance of confusion is an added bonus.

Uproar is the strongest special Normal move that Pidgeot has (that isn't Hyper Beam). Unfortunately Pidgeot doesn't get Hyper Voice, so I had to go with Uproar. Pidgeot will get locked into it for three turns, but it stops irritating things like Spore or Rest happening which is a plus. Roost is there for obvious reasons - to help Pidgeot stay alive for as long as possible. And also because Pidgeot has no other decent special attacking choices other than Hidden Power.

Pidgeot has no way of boosting its Special Attack, which could pose a problem against something that has decent Special Defense, whether it's EV-invested or not, which is why I've decided to put Togekiss in this team.

Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Baton Pass
- Nasty Plot
- Thunder Wave
- Air Slash
Togekiss is what first came to mind when I thought 'Nasty Plot passer'. It's pretty good defensive-wise, with its 115 Special Defense, coupled with 85 HP and 95 Defense which is alright. It also has great typing - Fairy/Flying. Of course, it has Nasty Plot and Baton Pass to pass Sp. Atk boosts to Pidgeot, and I also gave it Thunder Wave and Air Slash to also make it a paraflincher.

However, Togekiss also has lots of other options that would work in place of Thunder Wave and Air Slash, including Roost, Substitute, Wish, Encore, Heal Bell... The list goes on. I just went with the paraflinching option 'cause I just like it, and it means it can still function even when its boosting abilities aren't needed anymore.

However, I still need a plan B in case I can't get Togekiss's boosts onto Pidgeot for some reason. I thought that entry hazards would be a good way of chipping an opponent's health down so Pidgeot could make some OKHO's out of otherwise 2HKO situations.

Ferrothorn @ Focus Sash
Ability: Anticipation
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Knock Off
Ferrothorn is able to set down Stealth Rock and Spikes and has a lot of natural bulk to ensure it lasts long enough to set lots of hazards down. I chose Anticipation over Iron Barbs so I can scout to see if the opposing Pokemon has a move that could damage Ferrothorn a lot, for example, to see if the opponent has a Fire-type Hidden Power. With this knowledge, I can switch Ferrothorn out into something more suitable and set the hazards up later.

I gave it a Focus Sash because there are going to be some instances where I have to let Ferrothorn get hit by some super-effective move, but with the Focus Sash, it can at least set up at least one layer of hazards. Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's only source of health recovery, and Knock Off is always a powerful and useful move to have and ensures it can still attack if it gets taunted.

Now I need something that can shut down Defog users and Rapid Spinners.

Sableye @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Foul Play
- Taunt
- Recover
Sableye has access to priority Taunt which stops Defog-ers from doing their thing, as well as sporting a Ghost typing to stop Rapid Spinners from hitting it. It also has an arsenal of irritating moves like Will-O-Wisp, which makes Togekiss's life easier by helping it tank both Physical and Special moves while it sets up for Pidgeot. Foul Play hits Physical attackers hard even though their Physical attacks aren't doing anything thanks to Will-O-Wisp and ensures it has something to do if it gets Taunted itself. Recover is there for longevity.

Now Pidgeot itself has all the support it needs, but what do I do if it dies? Or what if I'm up against a bulky Specially Defensive Pokemon? I need more offense on the team now, obviously!

Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
I figured a mixed Garchomp would be a good choice since it can take advantage of Togekiss's boosts while also being good on the physically offensive side. Draco Meteor is good for two turns of being locked into it if it gets the boosts, since after using it once it'll be back at 0 boosts instead of -2. Of course it doesn't have to do that - it's mainly a Physical attacker - it then just has your typical offensive Garchomp moves, Dragon Claw and Earthquake for powerful STAB moves, and Stone Edge because Rock is an excellent attacking type. Not much else to say about this guy, other than it's starting to round out the physical/special offense on the team.

For the last slot, I decided to go with a dedicated Physical attacker....

530.png

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Rock Slide

Excadrill is a strong Physical attacker who can use Rapid Spin. This is good for spinning away Stealth Rock which Pidgeot is weak to, as well as any other entry hazards that have ended up on my side of the field. With base 88 Speed and no Sandstorm support on this team, I figured Excadrill wasn't going to outspeed anything so I made it a bulky Excadrill instead - its base 110 HP is nothing to scoff at. Swords Dance boosts his attack which lets him fulfill his position of a dedicated Physical attacker, then a STAB move of Earthquake as well as an accurate Rock move in Rock Slide rounds off Excadrill's moveset.

I dont know if you can post teams with unreleased Pokemon, but w/e I would suggest adding u-turn over uproar, as uproar is garbage. It stops sleep? But you'll be dead before that happens with uproar, and u-turn grabs momentum ^^

Hey! This team is really cool, especially Mega Pidgeot! I just have a few suggestions, though:
  • Anticipation is probably not going to help you as much on Ferrothorn, because the opponent can predict your switch easily. Stick with Iron Barbs, as it is more reliable.
  • For Excadrill, go for Mold Breaker over Sand Force. There are no sandstorm-starters in your team, and Mold Breaker is helpful in situation such as negating Levitate on Gengar to hit it super-effectively with EQ. Also, you might as well just keep Sp.Def at 4 EV's because there is no jump point and 4 will have the same effect as 6.
  • Instead of Dragon Claw on Garchomp, why not go for Outrage? Of course there are fairies and steel types to deal with, but Choice Scarf Outrage is really powerful and can sweep a good portion of the meta.
  • As WideTomato suggested, you should definitely change Uproar to U-Turn. U-turn is always helpful in case a switch is needed or to gain momentum.
Good luck on your team! ^-^

I feel Mega-Pidgeot will need HP Ground in OU, simply for Heatran. I've tried using Hurricane spam in OU with Vivillon and Heatrans always come up.

Also, what the fuck is Anticipation?

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Speed / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Baton Pass
- Calm Mind
- Toxic
- Hyper Voice

Well, I would replace the Togekiss by Sylveon. For very good reasons, Sylveon not take moves like Thunder, Blizzard and Stone Edge, which are weaknesses of both Togekiss and Pidgeot. He has 40 points lower speed, but compensates with more HP and more special def, even better fulfilling the function of a special wall.
Finally, although she could not learn Nasty Plot, but Calm Mind is a great option to increase the special defense of Pidgeot, depending on the amount of usage and / or pokemon in front, you can switch that will endure the blow without problems. Hyper Voice works well with Sylveon, even without special effort on ticking, as opponents to reach substitute. In the last slot, Toxic is a good option, although Thunder Wave would be better to ensure the speed of Pidgeot but, by the way

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def / 4 Speed / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Soft Boiled
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss

I also trade the Garchomp by Chansey. First it covers any status problem of Team with Aroma, second the subject Thunder Wave back and works very well with Chansey, third because it is a high security to both special attacks and physical. Finally, it will also serve to block all the weaknesses of Pidgeot, Sylveon and Excadrill(except fighter) , helps block Sablaye trouble but be careful with Knock Off. Chansey works for any team in fact it is the best support in game.

Sorry for my english, by the way.

I'm gonna start by saying Mega Pidgeot actually CAN boost its Special Attack with Work Up. Also, I'd use HP Ground over Uproar. Uproar doesn't really add much for coverage, although yes it does prevent sleep I think that's pretty situational and will rarely benefit you. You also already have a Spore/Sleep Powder switch in with Ferrothorn. HP Ground is crucial to get past Heatran and provides unresisted coverage with Hurricane and Heat Wave. HP Ground is pretty crucial for Pidgeot in OU. You can try HP Grass too, it also gives unresisted coverage and you can surprise Rotom-W switch ins.

On Pidgeot, definitely replace uproar with hp ground, as being locked into a weak move for 3 turns is pretty bad. :( Plus Heatran walls you. Doesn't even have to be hp ground, just get rid of uproar.

I don't really know what's going on with your Ferrothorn, it is a bulky Pokemon so definitely replace sash with leftovers (or rocky helmet). You can even give it a more specially orientated spread of 252/88/168 so it can live most hidden power fires. Anticipation needs to be replaced with iron barbs as you can usually tell what has hidden power fire judging by how your opponent plays (for instance, if they bring Latios in on Ferrothorn, they probably have it).

Sand force is weird to have on Excadrill, definitely replace that with mold breaker so you can smash Rotom-W.

I can sort of sympathize with your use of Anticipation on Ferrothorn; since your team is clearly centered around Pidgeot, you need those hazards. I get it. But if you insist on using Anticipation, then Focus Sash becomes completely counterintuitive to the benefit that Anticipation provides your Ferrothorn. I mean, the whole point of Anticipation is to allow your Ferrothorn to switch out before it can even be hit by that stray HP Fire. Why would you need Focus Sash? I mean, only Fire-types using STAB Flamethrower or Pokemon wearing Specs can even KO Ferro in the first place; and it's easy to see those coming. Leftovers is absolutely essential on a Ferrothorn that serves as your only wall; and also lacks Protect. If you absolutely insist on using the almost entirely useless Focus Sash (I mean, really, how often is Ferrothorn OHKO'd before taking ANY residual damage, at the beginning of a battle...?) please, please at least change your ability to Iron Barbs, which is far better than situational - it's legitimately useful. What I'm trying to say is that it's silly to use an insurance item with an insurance ability. You can't NOT have the cake and THEN not eat it.

I personally guarantee that this set will be far more helpful to you:

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EV's: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Knock Off / Protect

Adding the 4 extra EV's into attack (as you did) is redundant, as Knock Off isn't for doing any more than residual damage in the first place. Instead, having a pinch of SpDef EV's can help with preventing some 2HKOs and 3HKOs if you haven't set Leech Seed up yet.
