Blazin' Berserkers

This will be my last 4th gen RMT till I fully move on to 5th gen battling. As fun as the meta is right now, I still play 4th gen from time to time and help others with their teams.

This team has gone through several revisions, and I think I've come to a point where I no longer need to tweak it for it to perform well for me. I consider this just a standard team you would see in the metagame, with a couple tweaks here and there. This is as good as it's going get with me.

MetagrossShiny.png

METAGROSS @ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 236 HP / 228 Atk / 20 Def / 24 Spd
Nature: Adamant [+Atk, -SAtk]
- Meteor Mash
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch
.......................
Comments & Changes:
Since around the time Salamence got banned, I've been using Lead Metagross more often and I honestly can't find any reason to use another. He does his job well, by being able to set up stealth rock and take hits from opposing leads and finish them off with Meteor Mash and Bullet Punch.

I am currently using the EVs from my friend LizardMan, who advised that I use his spread over the the outdated spread I was using. These EVs allow me to take one hit from a Jolly Mamoswine's Earthquake chained into Ice Shard, and I have a chance of avoiding a KO from Adamant variants providing they don't do max damage in succession. These also enable me to out-speed other Metagross running the standard Max HP, Max Attack and minimum Spd spread on the main site, I also outrun band tar which is nice.

My move slots have more or less remained the same as it's so effective. Meteor Mash and Bullet Punch should be able out most leads. Earthquake has been added in to hit opposing steel types on the switch or if I'm confident Gross can survive one more attack, and Stealth Rock is added for offensive support. Like before, I'm running Lum Berry, which is much better than Leftovers because I am able to take on Lead Machamp and Roserade.

Heatran2.png

HEATRAN @ Shuca Berry / Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SAtk / 224 Spd
Nature: Modest [+SAtk, -Atk]
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Earth Power
- Explosion
.......................
Comments & Changes:
Being able steel / fire type with flash fire is pretty amazing for my team when combined with his defences and stellar offensive move-pools. What I'm using is a generic offensive Heatran set with Shuca Berry over Passho. Without Shuca, I'm owned pretty hard an offensive Shaymin running HP Ice. When Metagross has set up rocks, Heatran is normally what I see coming in to scare off whatever is out there.

Hidden Power [Grass] is for bulky water types such as Suicune and Pert, while Earth Power is mainly used for opposing Heatran's. If this was the Latias Era, I would run Dragon Pulse over it but I just don't see the point any more now that the two premier dragons have been exiled. Explosion is for special walls such as Blissey.

Before I switched to Passho and then Shuca, I was using Life Orb. As dumb as this is going to sound, but I wasn't even aware that I was using Life Orb, but as he was doing more damage, I decided to throw Life Orb in as an option. The problem here is that now I am totally fucked sideways by Shaymin, and will have to make changes if I want to check that, but I never bother if I have one of those days where I just as much shit as possible.

Kingdra3.png

KINGDRA @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 144 HP / 160 Atk / 42 SDef / 164 Spd
Nature: Adamant [+Atk, -SAtk]
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Rest
.......................
Comments & Changes:
With Jirachi, Heatran and Metagross, coupled with a Dragonite on my team, I would naturally think Kingdra would fit perfectly on this team. I've decided to see what the fuss is about with this Chesto Set and so far I've been impressed. Water / Dragon is another amazing type, only having one weakness covered by half of my team, and with his EVs, I should be able to switch into things easily and start boosting up. My main target are bastards such as Starmie and other bulky waters which annoy the hell out of me. I should be able to take on Hydro Pump from Starmie to get at least two boosts, then I heal off and just blast things.

This Pokémon acts as my primary set up sweeper. Because of the team mates, Kingdra should have most of it's checks weakened or killed by the time it comes. Heatran should be taking out Skarmory and friends if I don't play like an idiot, and Jirachi should be able to take on Flygon or Gliscor. I can never find Sniper useful so I run Swift Swim just in case I run into a rain team and reap the benefits.

Jirachi2.png

JIRACHI @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature: Timid [+SAtk, -Atk]
- Thunderbolt
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ground]
.......................
Comments & Changes:
Like Heatran, I won't go into a battle without taking some sort of Jirachi set. I believe Jirachi is up there by being one of the best Pokemon in OU, due to the sheer amount of sets it can run as well as it typing and stats. Jirachi acts as my second set up sweeper, where after one boost should be able to take out one Pokemon in the game. Instead of going with a wish set, I wanted to use Jirachi as a fast, powerful sweeper. Thunderbolt and Psychic are my primary attacking options once I get a calm mind under, and Hidden Power [Ground] works good for netting those Heatran's and fire type switch ins.

Before I was using Leftovers to gain some health back, but over time I felt that this team would benefit more from a Shuca variants. After testing, I came to the conclusion that this set worked much better, by being able to get Flygons trying to stop an impending sweep, as well as clear the way for another sweep by Kingdra should I decide to keep it hidden a little longer. Due to Jirachi’s bulk and typing, its not hard finding opportunities to come in and just begin setting up. I have had a lot of fun with this set.

Dragonite.png

DRAGONITE @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 56 Atk / 252 SAtk / 200 Spd
Nature: Mild [+SAtk, -Def]
- Superpower
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Roost
.......................
Comments & Changes:
Dragonite acts as my wallbreaker now that Salamence is banned. Before switching, I was using Suicune which was pretty much the weakest link, seeing as I could use another ground and fightign resist, I figured a wallbreaking Dragonite would be something to try out and so far it's done alright. Even though this thing doesn't help much with Shaymin, I can at least take on ones that decide to use Hidden Power [Fire], whereas Suicune is screwed no matter HP it uses, being able to hit walls hard is nice also.

I am using Mild over Rash because I've never been a fan of lowering Dragonite's SDef. I've also decided to forget about roost as Dragonite is the only priority user I have on my team. The EVs allow me to out-speed a jolly tar before a dd boost and KO with superpower. Max special attack is mainly for strong Draco Meteors. I have considered using Flygon with Fire Blast to try and help with Shaymin, but I just didn't like Flygon in general.

Rotom-W.png

ROTOM-W @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature: Timid [+SAtk, -Atk]
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Trick
.......................
Comments & Changes:
When it comes to revenge killing, you can't really go wrong with Rotom-W. While his electric resistance is nice, the ground and fighting immunity has proven useful as I currently have three pokemon weak to ground and two weak to fighting. When I was making the team, I was using Rotom-H with a generic spread, after a while the drop from Overheat started getting to me, so I switched to Rotom-W. While Hydro Pump can miss, I prefer being able to do consistent damage, rather than switching out every time I use Overheat. Another bonus is that I can do more damage to Tyranitar with Hydro Pump.

There were other Pokémon I had in mind before I decided to go with a Rotom Forme. I was going to pick Gengar, but decided to go with a rotom forme because it's bulkier and can use Trick. On top of that, I needed some way of checking Gyarados, Infernape and Starmie. Instead of going with the generic max special attack and speed, I went for Setsuna's more bulky spread, where Rotom has special attack EVs to still do some damage, but have enough HP EVs to take hits, specifically Starmie's Hydro Pump, better. I ran calcs too see how much Rotom would take and found that 69.1% - 81.4% if they have Life Orb, and 42.3% - 49.8% from the standard rapid spin set either way I survive and can KO back providing I have stealth rock down.

Conclusion

And here we are. Kinda half-assed it at the end, but I've been sitting on this for months now and I need the space used to type it for other things, I'll probably improve the descriptions at a later date.

Nice team, from a first glance it really has almost every threat covered. You really give stall teams a run for their money with combinations such as Dragonite and Life Orb Heatran as well as a well played Calm Mind Jirachi late game. Offensive teams will usually fall to your various combinations of powerful attacks whether it be Dragonite bombing Draco Meteors early game or Kingdra setting up for a sweep late game, your team really keeps the offensive pressure going overall. One small problem that I notice is that if you happen to run into a Dragon Dance Tyranitar that happens to be running Earthquake, you could be in some trouble. With Metagross being in the lead position, it is realistically going to take some form of damage in the beginning of the match, meaning that later in the game, Dragon Dance Tyranitar could pose a threat to you. Variants that carry Lum Berry have the opportunity to absorb an incoming WoW from Rotom and get an extra DD, and ripping your team to shreds. Although this is quite a rare combination, it is still something to watch out for. If I were you, I would try out running Will-o-Wisp over Hidden Power Grass on Heatran for a pokemon who can cripple Tyranitar in a backup situation. Although this isn't the most reliable of methods, it is worth a simple test simply due to the fact that WoW Heatran can cripple sweepers such as Gyarados and Tyrantiar which can in fact make way for a Jirachi sweep later in the match.

Also, I would try to run a Roar Vaporeon over your Kingdra. Although this may seem like a strange suggestion, this does allow you to check pokemon such as Tyranitar a little bit better. Even though Vaporeon can't resist Tyrantiar's STAB attacks, you have the ability to sponge its attacks to an extent so that you can play around it. Not to mention, Vaporeon does give you the opportunity to pass helpful wishes around and check pokemon such as Infernape and Heatran much more easily. Roar Vaporeon also gives you the ability to check Suicune by simply roaring it out. Since this does open you up to Starmie a little bit, you could try to run a Passho Heatran if you wanted to. With Overheat | Earth Power | Will-o-Wisp | Explosion and a Rash nature, you could simply have some more insurance to Starmie in that regard.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Bold 188 HP | 252 Def | 56 SDef | 12 Spd Water Absorb
Wish | Surf | Protect | Roar

Alright, that is all I have to say for now. Good Luck with this team!

The team is really solid, so the changes I feel you should make are minimal. For starters, definitely go with Shuca on Tran so you're not totally butt fucked by HP Ice Shaymin with Spikes support. Secondly, if you do run Shuca on Tran, a well played stall team can do fairly well against your team. SpD Hippo takes on Jirachi easily, only takes a max of ~48% from Rotom Hpump, can outstall Dnite due to no recovery, and takes a max of ~63% from Shuca Tran's Overheat (which will do much less after the SpA drop). Skarmory easily takes on Kingdra and Metagross, and Rotom is further checked by the common ScarfTar if locked into the wrong move. To remedy this, I think you should consider using Roost > Extremespeed on Dnite. This will allow you to check stall a lot easier by simply staying alive and recovering back some LO damage. Priority can be very useful, and I'm sure it is on this team, but you have most offensive threats checked well enough to where I think the pros of roost outway the loss of Extremespeed.

Looks good at a glance, perhaps I will rate the team more in-depth later. However, I think the Metagross's EV's are in-efficient.

I would just use 248HP/236Atk/24Spe simply because Metagross gets so much more out of investing bulk into your hitpoints than your physical defense since your physical defense is much higher than your HP.

I would also use Hasty with 6Atk/252SpA/252Spe to power up Explosion, to speed tie other Heatran, and to outrun useful things like Adamant Gyarados, Adamant Dragonite, Jolly Breloom, and Adamant Kingdra. Those pokemon outspeed your Dragonite, Metagross, and Kingdra so it should help.

Scizor seems to have dropped alot in play, and you seem to have it covered elsewhere which is why I would reccomend Hasty over Naive simply because it helps you switch into Rotom, CM Jirachi, and Zapdos with a bit more ease.

We spoke about your team on Xat, and I suggested a Skarmory/Forretress > one of your steels somewhere on the team to help with Shaymin/Agility Metagross but you have fixed the problem up otherwise which is fine too. I know you like triple steels on your teams, so I didn't bother with changing your preference. :P

Overall, it is a really good team. I will make sure I take another look at the team tommorow, and try to do a more in-depth rate.

I know you like your lead metagross, but imo he is pretty useless midgame. The other I noticed is your team really appreciates spike support. Metagross also has the same typing as Jirachi, which is something that would bother me.

So I suggest you try out a lead taunt skarmory:
Skarmory @ Lum berry
Impish
252hp/240sp.def/16 speed
- Taunt
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Spikes

I would then put stealth rocks on Heatran. Your team is well suited to a spiker with 2 dragons who love spikes and a spin blocker in Rotom-W. Feel free to wack a few more speed ev's on. Skarmory also helps out vs Shaymin, Flygon and sp.def Hippowdon. Spikes would help you break stall easier. All in all, I think skarm would help your team out and I suggest u try it out.

Also a view from a glance would be nice imo, but that is just personal preference.

Your team seems to have everything covered nicely except for Tyranitar, which can really wreck your team, especially with Lum + DD. Also stall can stop you if Dragonite falls.

To deal with this, try switching Jirachi to a physical mix with expert belt. It is just as unexpected as your current set, often netting a KO and another surprise KO against something like luke that tries to set up on the resisted move. It also gets free KOs on Skarmory, and can force Blissey out with a flinch or two, making it unable to really switch in. If you decide to run spikes as suggested above, then you can easily 2hko and cruise through most of stall. The set would be Iron head/Fire Punch/Ice Punch/Thunderbolt with a naive nature.

You're a tad MixApe weak, since Dragonite is pretty much the only thing that can switch into it, and it's going to die quite quickly to SR + LO damage. I would suggest replace Extremespeed with Roost on your Dragonite, as Extremespeed isn't overly critical, and Roost allows your Dragonite to switch into stuff like MixApe more easily. Roost also allows Dragonite to come in repeatedly on Stall and keep attacking without dying to residual damage and clever switching.

Small thing but on Jirachi, when will it need Shuca berry. I would rather switch out to Rotom or Dragonite, I would rather put something like Leftovers.

It makes Jirachi a lot harder to revenge kill with something like a Scarfgon and then it can continue on its sweep. Would it be worth trying Grass Knot on Jirachi for Swampert and Hippodown as you are not going to have trouble at all with Gyarados and Skarmory. Also where did you get the pictures because they are amazing as well as your formating. Again amazing formating and team.

Yeah, I run shuca berry Jirachi for things like Flygon and Gliscor.

I've decided to slash in roost as an option on nite, it's worked well so far. HP Ground on Rachi is also looking less and less appealing every time I play.

I also got the images from tcg cards I cut and edited myself.
