ORAS OU Dancing In The Rain

Introduction
Hey guys, I'm Cyanide4588 and this is my 3rd RMT, but my first since ORAS was released. ORAS gave us so many more Mega-Evolutions to work with and from those I chose to make this team based around Mega Swampert, which was my favorite from the ORAS Megas. The team is centered around M-Swampert and Specs Kingdra sweeping in rain, while Politoed and Zapdos run rain support, Ferrothorn setting up hazards and tanking physical hits and Tornadus-T abuses rain to hit 100% accurate Hurricanes.
A Look at the Team

Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
  • Scald
  • Toxic
  • Encore
  • Rest
Politoed, in my opinion the best rain setter in the game. I'm running a support orientated Politoed as I have Swampert and Kingdra to sweep reliably. Scald is a great STAB especially in the rain and that 30% burn chance can be quite the game changer if landed on a physical attacking Pokemon. Toxic is there to help take out tankier Pokemons. Encore is there so Politoed isn't set-up bait and locks defensive Pokemon in a support move hopefully. Rest is for recovery and allows Politoed to set up rain for longer. The 96 Speed EVs allows it to outspeed Max Speed Azumarill and lock it into BD if it just used it. 248 HP and 164 SpD plus the Calm Nature allows it to last longer and deal with special attackers.

Swampert @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp > Swift Swim
EVs: 104 HP / 252 Atk / 152 Spe
Adamant Nature
  • Waterfall
  • Earthquake
  • Low Kick
  • Ice Punch
M-Swampert is my favorite Mega to come from the bunch in ORAS. I just love the bulky offensive look of M-Swampert. M-Swampert is one of the sweepers of this team but is also quite tanky as well with 100/110/110 defenses. Anyway, we've got Waterfall and Earthquake as hard-hitting STAB moves and Ice Punch for coverage over Grass and Dragon types. Low Kick is the last move there for Mega-Gyarados and Ferrothorn. Damp is chosen because of the rare situational use over the lack of use of Torrent. 252 Atk EVs with Adamant allow M-Swampert to reach his maximum Attack and 152 Speed EVs are used to outspeed pretty much anything that isn't Scarfed with the rest dump into HP.

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
  • Hydro Pump
  • Draco Meteor
  • Surf
  • Ice Beam
Kingdra is my sweeper but on the special side of the spectrum. Kingdra is used to blow holes in the enemy team with rain boosted STAB Choice Spec'd Hydro Pumps and Draco Meteors, with Ice Beam for coverage and Surf is used for a reliable late game move and not relying on Hydro Pump's 80% accuracy later. The 176 Speed EVs allow me to outrun Scarfed base 100s and just outspeed Scarfed Garchomp while in the rain. 252 EVs in SpA plus Modest allows me to hit as hard as possible and the rest is throw into HP to increase Kingdra's bulk.

ferrothorn_by_cannibal_cartoonist-d49mc5z.jpg

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
  • Protect
  • Stealth Rock
  • Gyro Ball
  • Leech Seed
Ferrothorn is my main tank against physical attackers with enough bulk to withstand some special attacks and with rain reducing its weakness to Fire. Ferrothorn is also my Stealth Rocks setter and helps with its brillant utility. Stealth Rock is used over Spikes to provide more consistent hazard damage. Leech Seed is to provide recovery for Ferrothorn as it lacks any recovery due to Rocky Helmet and it helps put pressure on the opponent into making a switch. Gyro Ball abuses Ferrothorn's abysmal speed and lets it deal significant damage to much faster Pokemon. Protect helps me scout and with Leech Seed attached to the opponent it increases my recovery. As I want Ferrothorn to mainly deal with physical attackers I've run 252 HP and 168 Def EVs to allow it to deal with Pokemon such as Azumarill and Excadrill. I chose Rocky Helmet over Leftovers for the extra damage to contact moves.

tornadus_therian_by_whiterum-d6nzrhz.png

Tornadus-T @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 76 Atk / 216 SpA / 216 Spe
Naive Nature
  • Hurricane
  • U-Turn
  • Superpower
  • Taunt
Tornadus-T works as a offensive pivot in trying to keep momentum on my side and it also loves the rain as it gives Hurricane perfect accuracy. So I U-Turn to keep momentum and Taunt to hamper stall teams and put a halt in set up sweepers. Superpower is to provide coverage against Pokemon that resist Hurricane such as Excadrill and Tyranitar. The Attack EVs are to OHKO Tyranitar with Superpower and allow U-Turn to deal an average amount of damage. The 216 Speed EVs plus the Naive nature allow it to outspeed base 115 Pokemon. With the rest into SpA to increase the damage from Hurricane.

Zapdos__lord_of_thunderstorms_by_raykins.png

Zapdos @ Damp Rock
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
  • Thunder
  • Rain Dance
  • Defog
  • Roost
Zapdos is my manual weather inducer but also abuses the rain for accurate Thunder. Thunder is there to abuse in the rain and as a powerful STAB move. Rain Dance is to set up for Swampert and Kingdra mainly but also Zapdos itself and Tornadus-T. Defog is clear away hazards as they are always a hindrance on most teams. Roost is for recovery and eliminates Zapdos' Flying type for the turn of use. The EVs here are used to maximise Zapdos' special bulk while slightly increasing the damage of Thunder.

Conclusion
So far the team has encountered mediocre success but I really want to keep working with this team because I believe it has potential and would like to use it to its fullest. Any recommendations and adjustments to this team would be lovely. Thank you

Hey, nice team. I've got a few suggestions which i think will improve the performance of your team:

First of all, Kingdra should be used as an early game wall breaker. The specs set isn't very good cuz you just get locked in one move and you'll have to switch a lot of times. On the other hand, the Mixed Rain Sweeper set lets you switch moves and hit very hard cuz rain will always boost your hydro pump anyway. Hydro Pump is really the only move you'll be using in most battles. The Mixed Set lets you deal better with special walls such as chansey.

My next suggestion is that you change your zapdos to Mixed wall breaker thundurus. Zapdos does provide defog support but thundurus weakens most of the walls making it easy for your rain sweepers to clean up. You also lose on your second rain setter but zapdos isn't a very good rain setter anyway. If you play intelligently with politoed, I don't think you'll really need a secondary rain setter. Just my opinion.

On Swampert, you should be running max speed as it lets you outspeed more stuff and your speed decides battles most of the time late game.

I hope my suggestions help you.

Sets:
Kingdra @ Life Orb
EVs: 80 Atk / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Outrage
- Waterfall

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Knock Off
- Superpower
- Hidden Power Ice

Thanks for that. Kingdra was encountering problems due to switching all the time and zapdos has been lacking quite a bit but thundurus should be a good addition
