DISSIDENT

Hello people. Most of you already know me, I've been known in the monotype community as one of the best Flying-type users, and I'm going to share a team with you guys alongside the proper EV spread. This is the most successful non Mega Charizard X team of mine, and it stars the beast that is known as Mega Gyarados.

Without further ado, here is the teambuilding process:

130-mega.png

Started with Gyarados, which is an amazing Pokemon in general and it gives Flying Monotypes a nifty Ice-type resist, as well giving it a great matchup vs Ground-, Psychic-, and Rock-type teams.

Used the amazing SkarmDos core, Skarmory tanks Physical hits while Zapdos tanks Special attacks. They form a nifty Stealth Rock and Defog core as well, and is one of the best core Flying-type teams can offer.

I needed a really powerful wallbreaker that can ravage through teams and deal with opposing Flying-, Fairy-, Fire-, and Grass-type teams. Landorus was my best bet.

Now I needed something to deal with setup sweepers, and something to deal with Fighting-type teams. I also needed a cleric because my team can be worn down by Toxic spam so Togekiss is in the team.

Finally, I needed a nice revenge killer that forces a lot of switches as well as destroy Psychic-type teams (I really really hate facing them). Honchkrow was my last Pokemon to choose.

Okay now that's done, let's go with the in-depth analysis (Set Details are included on the Custom EV Spreads) :

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 92 Def / 68 SpD / 100 Spe
Careful Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Dragon Dance makes it boost to dangerous levels. With Intimidate, it gets an easier chance to setup and hit stuffs hard with Waterfall. Rest let's it heal up to a max, meaning nothing can stop it with status ailments. Sleep Talk ensures that it cannot be a fodder while it's sleeping. Waterfall is the primary STAB that hits very hard after a Dragon Dance.
The EVs are really weird LOL. So let me go in-depth with them. The SpD EVs are so that the Regular Gyarados can never be 2HKOed by a Solarbeam from Mega Charizard Y even after switching into Stealth Rock, making it a setup fodder. The Speed EVs are such that Gyarados outspeeds Garchomp after one Dragon Dance, since that's quite important because Garchomp is very dangerous. The rest are dumped into Defense and HP and thus this makes Gyarados setup on many Pokemon in the tier.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 204 SpD / 56 Spe
Calm Nature
- Discharge
- Toxic
- Defog / Substitute
- Roost

Zapdos is the one half of the backbone of my team. It usually switches into Special Attacks and walls them. Discharge is the primary STAB that also allows Zapdos to spread paralysis, as well as hit annoying Water-types. Toxic let's Zapdos put its opponents on timer, Roosting off the damage and wearing it down, which makes it easier for the team to plow through. Defog is used to remove the hazards, but Substitute can also be used to wall Lanturn and Water-type stall teams which are really annoying to face.
The Speed EVs ensures Zapdos outspeeds a Defensive Volcarona, and Toxics it. Furthermore, it can also allow Zapdos to outspeed other Zapdos since they never run this much Speed EVs. Rest of the EVs are dumped into HP and SpD to maximise it's special bulk.

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet / Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 164 Def / 96 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock / Defog
- Roost
- Brave Bird / Iron Head
- Whirlwind

Skarmory is the other half of the backbone of my team, protecting it from most Physical Attackers. Stealth Rock is self mandatory, but Defog can also be used if you're running Substitute Zapdos. Roost is obvious. Brave Bird is to hit every fighting types in the tier, while Iron Head hits Mega Diancie which is really annoying to face. Whirlwind ensures I don't get swept by setup sweepers.
The SpD spread is such that it will never get 2HKO-ed by a Hyper Voice from a Choice Specs Meloetta. This also allows Skarmory to take Moonblasts from Diancie more easily. Others are dumped into HP and Defense.
645.gif

Landorus @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave / Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Rock Slide

Landorus is one of the best wallbreakers in the tier. With Earth Power it can ravage through most walls. Sludge Wave hits Fairy- and Grass-types while Psychic hits Gengars and Fighting-types. Focus Blast is for Dark-types as well as attemting to KO Kyurem-Black :pirate:. Rock Slide is for hitting Fire- and Flying-types and makes Landorus KO Mega Charizard Y and destroy SkarmDos cores.
468.gif

Togekiss @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Air Slash
- Dazzling Gleam
- Heal Bell
- Trick

Air Slash makes it really annoying to face since it can almost always flinch its foe. It also makes me check Fighting-types since Togekiss outspeeds most of them and KOs them. Dazzling Gleam is for Hydreigon, Mega Sableye, Mandibuzz and other Dark-type Pokemon. It's also used to hit Dragon-type Pokemon as well, such as Lati@s, Garchomp, and the dangerous Kyurem-Black. Trick + Heal Bell is a strategy I made, where you Trick a wall, and then Heal Bell if they inflicted you or your team with a status ailment.
430.gif

Honchkrow @ Life Orb
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower
- Dark Pulse

Honchkrow with its immense power and amazing ability makes it very dangerous to the opponent. Brave Bird is mandatory STAB that does a huge chunk of damage on almost everything. Sucker Punch makes up for its mediocre Speed stat and this forces a lot of switches. Superpower is used to hit Tyranitar and Heatran that love to switch into Brave Bird. I am running Dark Pulse only because of Slowbro; I hate that Pokemon and Dark Pulse 2HKOs it, making it easier for me to plow through Psychic-type teams

==========================================================

This team is really fun to use, but of course, it is weak to Kyurem-Black and you need to play very carefully. It is also weak to Electric-types, but just have patience and Zapdos can wear them down. Dragon-types are also very hard to face, especially with Mega Garchomp and Kyurem-Black but yeah, plays have to be made. Lastly, Mega Abomasnow is very dangerous as well as it can KO everything with the right predictions.

If it's against a bulkier team, Gyarados is your best friend. Punch holes with Landorus and Honchkrow and then have a Gyarados sweep. If it's against an offensive team, Togekiss just flinches them to death and Gyarados can still setup and win depending on the type. Be careful around the threats and you'll be fine.

Please read the entire RMT before using it.

Yo dude, this is an amazing team (even though you already probably know that lol). I have no real suggestions bc it's very good as it is. You could potentially add heatwave to Honchkrow so you have an easier time against Steel mons in general, but Dark Pulse I can see can catch physical walls off guard. It's fantastic though man, well done. Ill tag scpinion to this and see about getting it added to team showcase, bc this is very deserving of it :)

I don't really need Heat Wave since I have Landorus and Dark Pulse 2HKOs it lol

Nothing really to suggest about the team, but you should probably put Monotype in the title, or at least somewhere near the top of the RMT, so that Monotype raters / fans will find this RMT more easily. Just a thought. I don't have much do say, it's a really good team already.

Late rate but since I'm back into Monotype I may as well do it. I'd also list CB infernape as a big threat to your team, especially if fire/fighting gets rocks up forcing you to defog away your own potential SR. Even with the rhelm recoil it can still do heavy damage to you. If gyarados isn't mega'd and it lacks tpunch (uncommon as the 4th move, but possible to help Fires vs Water instead of gknot) than it can check it but would still be u-turn bait everytime nape comes into you.

The following change would worsen matchup versus other types but to prevent something like CM Sub Raikou from beating you Roar > Toxic on Dos works so electric doesn't harass you too much. Not that I think Mono-Electric is something that should be highly prepared for especially for Flying.

Cool team, bulky DD resttalk gyara is amazing in past gens so there's no reason it shouldn't work for mega as well in ORAS.
