UU Ditto

Transformer. Ditto in disguise.

Overview
########
Ditto is one of the best revenge killers in the metagame thanks to its ability, Imposter. It works best on hyper offensive teams where the goal is to take the opponent down as quickly as possible. It also has a niche over other scarfers by not being slowed down by Sticky Web. Sadly, Imposter doesn't copy the opponent's HP stat, and as Ditto has a pathetic base 48 HP and is vulnerable to hazards, it can be worn down quickly. Ditto also only has one role to play in the game, which makes it very predictable, and because of Ditto’s need to attack due to Choice Scarf, it is complete deadweight against stall teams.

Moves
========

Transform is Ditto’s only legal move, and you won’t be using it unless you are against an opposing Ditto, anyway.

Set Details
========

Choice Scarf is the best item for Ditto, as unless the opponent itself has Choice Scarf, Ditto will always outspeed the opponent. 248 EVs in HP allow Ditto to take less damage from Stealth Rock, while maximum investment in Defense allows it to take less damage if in a Struggle war with another Ditto. 0 Speed IVs gives Ditto Hidden Power Ice and allows Ditto to be outsped in the rare case of a Struggle war.

Usage Tips
========

It is best to switch Ditto in after a successful U-turn or Volt Switch. Ditto cannot switch in while an opponent is boosting because it then will not get the boosts it needs. Ditto is also a terrible switch-in to opposing scarfers because there is only a 50/50 chance of it going first and not fainting due to it’s pathetic 48 HP stat. Ditto can scout Pokemon with large movepools like Mew or Jirachi if necessary, or scout against leads if you want to use it more defensively.

Teammates
========

Ditto isn’t a Pokemon to build a team around, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have Pokemon it would like to have as teammates. Rapid Spin or Defog support is highly appreciated because of Ditto's abysmal HP stat, and the fact that it is harmed by all entry hazards, except Sticky Web. Users of U-turn or Volt Switch are also greatly appreciated as an offensive teammate, allowing for both Ditto and the U-turn or Volt Switch user to scout a team.

Other Options
########
While Hidden Power Ice is generally the best option, you can also use different IVs to get different Hidden Powers such as Hidden Power Fire. A Focus Sash set may seem viable, but it risks being broken by entry hazards. A Red Card set is another appealing option to phaze sweepers, but Ditto may have to switch out and lose the boosts it accumulated. If you really want to use one of those sets, Sticky Web support is beneficial.

Checks & Counters
########
**Substitute/Illusion** If Ditto's opponent is behind a Substitute or has the ability Illusion, it can’t transform at all. This means Zoroark and common Substitute users render Ditto useless.

**Calm Mind** Some Calm Mind users can beat Ditto, since they can either boost or heal while Ditto will be locked into a move.

**Return/Frustration** Depending on it's happiness, either Return or Frustration can make Ditto’s job harder.

So why are there SpDef EVs? HP is all that matters except in a rare Struggle war, in which case the 8 Attack EVs would benefit more than the SpDef you'll never use.

You might want to mention how Ditto is fucked by Frustration when it turns into something and has high happiness.

500th post, cheers!

So why are there SpDef EVs? HP is all that matters except in a rare Struggle war, in which case the 8 Attack EVs would benefit more than the SpDef you'll never use.

There was a post in the Ubers Ditto thread discussing how 8 Atk EVs is actually counter-productive in a Ditto V Ditto struggle war. As such, move the 8 EVs to SpDef, so you'll have more bulk in case you aren't able to Transform (It's pretty minor I know, but the 8 Atk EVs really aren't helpful)

Also the set should have 30 Atk and 30 Def IVs to make sure you'll get Hidden Power Ice apon Transforming.

  • Ditto should be running 0 IVs in Speed (with no other IV changes)
    • This is used to obtain the lowest Speed possible for the event of a Ditto Struggle war occurring. 0 IVs in Speed also give you Hidden Power Ice, which is generally the best option for a Hidden Power afaik.
  • Remove Frustration from Checks and Counters.
    • The reason why I don't think this is necessary is because, if Ditto wants to be prepared for such a scenario, it can simply opt to run minimum happiness as well.
  • Remove Quiver Dance from C&C.
    • The are pretty much no viable users of Quiver Dance in UU/RU, so you can probably remove that from the Checks and Counters section as well. The reason why I put this in the OU analysis (which I'm assuming you grabbed it from), is because Volcarona is capable of doing this. If you contend that there are enough viable users of QD for it to warrant it, then go ahead I guess.
    • edit: i just remember vivillon, my bad. that being said, vivillon isn't UU by usage-stats (and I think it's NU), so if its analysis gets rejected, keep this in mind.
  • Outline how one-dimensional Ditto is in the overview.
    • Pretty much the only role it can capably pull off is that of a revenge killer. Moreover, you could potentially state how it struggles to make much of an impact against more defensive teams.
edit2: the point about frustration was that it was just so trivial and easy to patch up either way and therefore probably doesn't need a dedicated section in c&c. up to you guys, though

But then you're screwed by Return. Not very many pokes run Frust/Return in UU, but it can mess ditto up regardless, leaving it with one less useable move. I'd say change it to "Return/Frustration".

Venemoth is getting an analysis, no?

Venemoth is getting an analysis, no?
yo, I edited my post before you responded saying you can ignore that point as I didn't notice Vivillon. If Venomoth is getting an analysis too (I can't see it anywhere in the index or this subforum, but it might be!), by all means keep that point. I don't want to fill up your thread with this trivial point, so feel free to make that decision. gl

edit: also wyvern is correct

mention that it's a good lead because of scouting purposes, and that it has a niche over other scarfers in that it's unhindered by sticky web. also, i think hidden power ice is the better hidden power, so IVs should be 2 Spe i think (correct me if im wrong). also i'd probably mention that ditto works best on hyper offensive teams, because it's a good emergency button for them, while hyper offensive teams threat stall teams that make ditto useless.

after that, qc approved 1/3

mention sticky web support for the non choiced sets since it could potentially make ditto really annoying to face, especially for offensive teams

Add what radian said about Ditto having a considerable niche over other scarfers since it can't be slowed down with Sticky Web since it is copying the stats of the opponent. (in overview since it's one of the huge reasons to use Ditto on Hyper Offense since SW matches up extremely well vs it)

Once that is done, QC 3/3 Sorry for the huge wait :[

Under Teammates (that should be Team Options btw), you say that it's harmed by all entry hazards, but Sticky Web doesn't affect it, so you should reword that. I can't believe you don't have defensive Pokemon in C&C. If Ditto comes in when the opponent switches into pretty much any wall, Ditto won't be able to do much of anything since it's Scarfed.
