Overview
########

Drilbur fits many different roles in the LC metagame. With a Jolly nature, Drilbur hits 17 Speed and a strong 18 Attack, and its access to Swords Dance makes it even more threatening. However, Drilbur is more than that; it's also one of the few viable Rapid Spinners in Little Cup. It can also lay Stealth Rock, making it a very decent support Pokemon. The ability Mold Breaker allows it to hit levitating Pokemon with Earthquake and OHKO Pokemon with the ability Sturdy. Drilbur's biggest problem is that it's pretty frail, even with Eviolite, and its lack of reliable recovery also makes it easy to wear down.

move 4: Stealth Rock / Swords Dance
ability: Mold Breaker
item: Eviolite / Life Orb
evs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 212 Spe
nature: Jolly

Moves
========

Earthquake is a strong reliable STAB move that can hit levitating threats due to Mold Breaker. Rapid Spin is a very good move because Drilbur is one of the few Pokemon in LC that can use it well. Rock Slide or Rock Tomb provides important coverage on Flying-types, such as Archen and Fletchling. Stealth Rock is a good option if your team needs it. Swords Dance allows Drilbur to sweep if it gets an opportunity to set up, as not many Pokemon can switch into a +2 Mold Breaker Earthquake.

Set Details
========

Eviolite is the preferred item, as it allows Drilbur to take a hit from things like +2 Misdreavus. Maximizing Speed and Attack allows Drilbur to have as much of an offensive presence as possible. Jolly is the preferred nature to outspeed Jolly Pawniard and Jolly Dwebble. Mold Breaker allows Drilbur to KO Dwebble through Sturdy if it has a Swords Dance boost and also prevents Tirtouga from setting up. It also allows Drilbur to beat standard Ground-type walls such as Bronzor and Koffing and hit Misdreavus with Earthquake. Berry Juice can be used, but Drilbur is often OHKOed without Eviolite because of its underwhelming defensive stats. Life Orb lets Drilbur OHKO non-Eviolite Misdreavus and is great if it's using Swords Dance.

Usage Tips
========

Due to its frailty and bad defensive typing, Drilbur doesn't wall an awful lot of Pokemon, so it often finds it hard to switch in. If you can get it in against something it threatens, such as Magnemite, it can often force a switch, allowing Drilbur to set up, use Rapid Spin, or attack with Earthquake. Drilbur often works as a lead with Stealth Rock, and if you run Swords Dance it works extremely well against Dwebble leads.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that appreciate the removal of entry hazards like having Drilbur on a team. Examples include Larvesta and Flying-types like Fletchling. Drilbur likes Pokemon that can switch into Water- or Grass-type attacks, such as Foongus and Ferroseed. If you struggle with Sturdy + Berry Juice users, Drilbur is a good answer, particularly to Magnemite. Slow U-turn users such as defensive Mienfoo and Fletchling can help get Drilbur in safely so it can use Rapid Spin more easily. If Drilbur is running the bulky spread, it immensely enjoys Bunnelby as a teammate, as it can lure in Misdreavus for Drilbur to beat, then KO Misdreavus with Thief from Bunnelby.

Other Options
########

Sand Rush can be used with support from Hippopotas, but the nerf to sand really hurts the viability of this set. Drilbur can also manually set up sand to abuse Sand Rush. Poison Jab can be used to hit Fairy-types, particularly Cottonee, which is a big threat for Drilbur. Drilbur can also run an effective Mold Breaker Choice Scarf set which can sometimes clean late-game. A bulky EV spread can also be used for taking special attacks much better. With a 116 HP / 76 Atk / 80 Def / 212 Spe EV spread and a Jolly nature, Misdreavus only 3HKOes with Shadow Ball, while Drilbur 2HKOes Misdreavus back with Earthquake.

Checks & Counters
########

**Bulky Grass-types**: Ferroseed, Lileep, Cottonee, Shroomish, and Foongus can switch in easily and take Drilbur on in most cases.

**Bulky Water-types**: Slowpoke and Frillish can easily take a hit and OHKO Drilbur with Surf or Scald.

**Faster Pokemon**: Staryu and Choice Scarf users can OHKO Drilbur because it's quite frail, and since it has no forms of recovery, it can be worn down into KO range easily.

**Burn**: Will-O-Wisp from Ghost-types that also spinblock is a nightmare for Drilbur. Misdreavus and Frillish are both good examples.

murkrow needs to be removed, though sometimes it can be replaced with Doduo. Also, shouldn't 36 EVs be in HP?

Add in a set for Scarf Drilbur. I have personally used Scarf Drilbur to great success, and it is extrmeely useful in revenge killing things like Nasty Plot Misdreavus.

A Bulky set / alternate spread could also be added. I personally use a spread of 116 HP / 76 Atk / 0- SpA / 80 Def / 236 Spe+ so as to be 3hkoed by Misdreavus Shadow Ball, while 2hkoing back.

Mention Pokemon that can slow U-turn to Drilbur, such as Defensive Mienfoo, Fletchling, or LO BUnnelby (the bulky spread helps immensely with Bunnelby as a teammate, as you can lure in Misdreavus for Drilubr to beat, then KO with Bunny).

QC 3/3?

Scarf Drilbur is cool and all but is it THAT good that it deserves a set? I'd wanna see replays tbh

Yeah idk if I have replays but I can definitely vouch for it. At the least it deserves discussion, as that is the only set I use outside of a bulky set. A 17 speed scarfer is extremely useful, especially since not much can switch in to his earthquake. A set of eq / rock slide / shadow claw and the either rapid spin or poison jab has always worked for me

don't see the point in shadow claw since you're hitting missy/gastly harder with EQ and Floon harder with Rock Slide anyway. Poison Jab is probably best on the third slot for cottonee then Rapid Spin last. Still though, I'd rather use something like Scarf Pawniard or Scarf Mienfoo. Especially since you can't 2HKO berry juice misdreavus with EQ

honestly we should just put it in OO and if it becomes more popular / discovered to be better, someone can write up a set for it

The overview doesn't really have any negative qualities mentioned, so be sure to put in some, such as how it's pretty frail even with Eviolite, especially with its lack of recovery.

Besides that nitpick, it looks good.

QC 3/3

You are of course totally right, stupid me. But now it's finally written up and ready for final QC. :)

OK I've been testing Rock Tomb a lot over Rock Slide and I've got to say that I like it a lot better. You can afford to not run Jolly (I still do) and I actually think it might be worth investing a little in bulk and using Berry Juice. Either way, I think it deserves a slash.

remove life orb doduo mention as it can't take a hit without 36 evs in def and then you get OHKOed by +2 missy shadow ball

mention how only like surf / hydro pump can KO it, though, because scald won't KO

remove the "beat defog users like vullaby" part because that's simply not true

"Drilbur likes Pokemon that can switch into Water- or Grass-type attacks, such as Foongus, Ferroseed or Ponyta" remove ponyta lel

remove bunnelby from the "slow u-turn users" because it won't be able to take a hit to switch drilbur in slowly and it's quite fast usually

"**Faster Pokemon**: Misdreavus, Staryu and Choice Scarf users usually have no trouble OHKOing Drilbur, because it's quite frail, and no recovery means it can be worn down into KO range easily." I don't know, missy doesn't really belong there since it can't 2HKO :s

Fix that and it's approved n_n qc 3/3 whatever
