Greninja's blistering Speed allows it to perform as an excellent Spikes user, and when holding a Focus Sash it is capable of setting up at least one layer of the hazard every game. This lets its teammates apply pressure on the opposing team thanks to the residual damage dealt to grounded foes on the switch-in. Spikes is especially useful against foes that lack reliable recovery like AV Magearna, as they have a hard time switching in with Spikes up. Toxic Spikes on the other hand poisons grounded foes on the switch in and slowly stacks damage on bulkier teams that lack a grounded Poison-type. Some notable targets are Tangrowth, Mew, and Tapu Bulu. Taunt prevents Defog from the likes of Mega Scizor and Mew, which otherwise wall Greninja and prevent it from setting up hazards. Taunt also prevents set-up from the likes of Shift Gear Calm Mind Meagrana and Dragon Dance Gyarados and can even stop opposing hazards from setters like Heatran and Ferrothorn if timed correctly, though this comes at the risk of Greninja setting up fewer layers. Ice Beam is Greninja's only attacking move and provides it with useful coverage against some Defog users like Zapdos and Latios, and OHKOes Landorus-T and Zygarde. Gunk Shot is an option instead of Ice Beam to surprise Taunt Tapu Koko and stop it from preventing Spikes, and also hits Tapu Fini for super effective damage.

Set Details
========
Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature gives Greninja as much Speed as possible, notably outpacing Latios, Kartana, and Garchomp. A Jolly nature alongside maximum Attack investment should be used instead if running Gunk Shot. Maximum Special Attack powers up Greninja's Ice Beam for a chance to OHKO Zapdos after Stealth Rock damage and gives it decent overall damage. Focus Sash is needed in order for Greninja to survive any hit with 1 HP, thus guaranteeing at least one layer of Spikes or Toxic Spikes per game. Protean is the best ability for this set, as it gives Ice Beam the needed STAB boost and can even force mind games with Spikes.

Usage Tips
========

Greninja does a great job at setting up Spikes early-game on offense teams and throughout a match on balance ones. When used on offense, Greninja should be either lead with or sent out after the Stealth Rock user to set up as many layers of Spikes and Toxic Spikes as possible and then faint. In order to maximize the amount of hazards it sets up in a game, Greninja should try to get into the field against passive Pokemon or Pokemon it forces out such as Celesteela, Toxapex, and Landorus-T. If the opponent lacks a Toxic Spikes absorber like Toxapex or Mega Venusaur and a majority of the oppposing team is vulnerable to the hazard, Greninja should prioritize setting up Toxic Spikes as opposed to Spikes, though it should aim to set both up if possible. If the opponent sends out a Defog user that doesn't fear Ice Beam like Mega Scizor or Mew, Greninja should make use of Taunt to prevent them from removing the hazards even if Greninja sacrifices itself in the process, though balance teams can afford to switch Greninja out and find another opportunity to set up hazards.

Team Options
========

Another suicide lead with Stealth Rock like Focus Sash Excadrill or Landorus-T complements Greninja and forms a deadly double hazard core with it. Alternatively, other Stealth Rock users like defensive Landorus-T and Clefable pair well with Greninja on more bulky oriented teams, where it shines due to its ability to pivot in and set up hazards multiple times against balance teams. This set excels when paired with teammates that can apply offensive pressure on the opposing team and prevent members of it from getting rid of the hazards, or teammates that can take advantage of opposing Defog to set up. Wallbreakers like Choice Specs Tapu Lele and sweepers like Swords Dance Scizor and Mimikyu can fulfill this role and are great on offense, and they have good synergy with Spikes since some of their checks like Assault Vest Magearna and Toxapex are grounded. Substitute+Protect Zygarde deserves a special mention, as it is able to force its counters like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu to take damage from Toxic Spikes repeatedly with the combination of Substitute and Protect until they're in range of its attacks. Other bulky setup sweepers like Shift Gear Calm Mind Magearna and Dragon Dance Mega Gyarados appreciate Spikes too and can stack poison damage thanks to the many switches they force.

  • Mention Gunk Shot. Koko carrying Taunt can fuck u over and it still hits Fini so that's nice
  • I don't really think it needs to be paired with another Suicide lead. I've only really seen that on like one build, and most of the time Sash Gren is used on all sorts of builds. Other offenses will tend to just run SR Lando and bulkier teams run like Rocks Clef cause this set sucks vs stall
Everything else looks good and would just be nitpicky. QC 1/3

Add "with maximum Attack investment" somewhere after "A Jolly nature" when talking about Gunk Shot

(Comment: Currently, "which lets its teammates..." is closest to "when holding a Focus Sash", which kind of suggests holding the Sash is what lets teammates apply pressure. Consider changing to something like "Greninja's blistering Speed allows it to perform as an excellent Spikes user, and when holding a Focus Sash it is capable of setting up at least one layer of the hazard every game. This lets its teammates apply pressure..." ) Spikes is especially useful against foes that lack reliable recovery like AV Magearna, as they have a hard time switching in with Spikes up. It Taunt (Comment: In the pevious sentence you use "it" to refer to Greninja, so I recommend being extra clear here. ) also prevents set-up from the likes of Shift Gear Calm Mind Meagrana and Dragon Dance Gyarados and can even stop opposing hazards from setters like Heatran and Ferrothorn if timed correctly, though this comes at the risk of Greninja setting up fewer layers. Ice Beam is Greninja's only attacking move and provides it with useful coverage against some Defog users like Zapdos and Latios, and OHKOes Latios as well as OHKOing (Comment: Usually, use "as well as" when whatever following is of less importance. I don't know if that's the case here, so change as necessary. ) Landorus-T and Zygarde. Gunk Shot is an option instead of Ice Beam to surprise Taunt Tapu Koko and stop it from preventing Spikes, and also hits Spikes while also hitting (Comment: Avoid using "while" unless you're contrasting or talking about two actions happening in tandem. ) Tapu Fini for super effective damage.

Another suicide lead with Stealth Rock like Focus Sash Excadrill or Landorus-T complements Greninja's Spikes Greninja (Comment: It makes more sense for Pokemon to complement each other, rather than a Pokemon to complement Spikes imo ) and forms a deadly double hazard core with it. Alternatively, other Stealth Rock users like defensive Landorus-T and Clefable pair well with it Greninja on more bulky oriented teams, where Greninja it shines due to its ability to pivot in and set up hazards multiple times against balance teams. This set excels when paired with teammates that can apply offensive pressure on the opposing team and prevent members of it from getting rid of the hazards hazards, or teammates that can or take advantage of opposing Defog to set up.
