ORAS OU Just Deserts

Hi Welcome to my sand team just deserts. The team starts off with the obligatory "sand setter"/excadrill core and followed by the almost as obligitory "my little pony". The rest of the team rounds it off with a speedy volt turn core in lando-t/m-manectric and gengar. Now without further adue the team

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
tyranitar.gif

248 Hp / 80 Def / 180 Spd
Relaxed
-Stone Edge
-Pursuit
-Ice Beam
-Stealth Rock

Tyranitar the godzilla pokemon joins the team with his support set. Since excadrill is running Swords dance and lando-t is running a choice scarf, this set is preffered for it's longer lasting sand and ability to set up SR with ease. In addition to this tyranitar acts as a counter to threats such as the lati thanks to his excellent mixed bulk and great offensive movepool, with pursuit for trapping, stone edge for that rock stab and ice beam suggested by nedor for coverage, often against pokemon with an ice weakness like garchomp and landorus. The eves are the standard support set build, with a relaxed nature for good mixed bulk, as sand stream already boosts his special defence.

Excadrill Life Orb
excadrill.gif

4 Hp / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
adamant
-Earthquake
-Iron Head
-rapid spin
-Rock slide

Excadrill is the only viable sand sweeper in over used, but his positive traits make it more than worthwhile to invest in a sand team over the like of rain, with many more weather boosted sweepers available. First and foremost is his excellent 135 attack, next comes a stellar steel/ground typing which is good offensively and defensively, a decent 88 speed allows him to outspeed a vast array of threats in the sand and finally his movepool has all the right tools for him to get the job he and his team needs done. The nature of adamant was suggested by hector as excadrill is no longer running swords dance so appreciates the increase in damage output f, and the eves are straight forward max attack and speed to outpace virtually all of the metagame. The moves chosen are straight forward ; earthquake and iron head for stab, Frustration for coverage and rapid spin to remove hazards from the opponents field. Finally life orb allows him to pose an immediate threat before a boost.

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
keldeo.gif

4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Scald
-Secret Sword
-Hidden Power flying
-Hydro Pump

Keldeo has always been a good partner for tyrnitar and vice versa. while scarftar is normally the bst pair with keldeo, any tyranitar with pursuit also for an effective team mate. With tyranitar removing threats such as latios and keldeo dealing with the likes of heatran and gliscor. The set has been changed to the crushing choice specs set, taking advantage of the powerful stab combination of water fighting to break past walls with ease. Hidden Power flying allows keldeo to lure and pick off weakened mega-venasaur, Hydro pump allows keldeo to plow past walls, secret sword allows keldeo to hit the blobs and other specially orientated walls on their typically weaker defence, and scald allows for stab water burn move. A timid nature allows for maximum speed and eves max special attack and speed for maximum offensive capabilities. changed suggested by hector, nedor and notfalse.

manectric-mega.gif

4 Def / 252 Spa / 252 Spe
Timid
-Volt switch
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power Ice
-Flamethrower

Mega-manectric joins the team as a speedy volt turning electric type. With the team with no love of water type attacks and a mega slot conveniently free, manetric is here to put pressure on water/flying types, as well as pick off weakened threats and pivot around. The eves and nature allow for maximum offensive pressure, with max speed to outpace the majority of ou and every unboosted non mgea in the tier. The move set allows manectric to pivot with volt switch, hit hard with stab electric thunderbolt, hidden power ice for chomp and the other 4x ice weak pokemon, with flamethrower to deal with the teams lacking fire type stab to deal with steels, not named heatran.

Skarmory
skarmory.gif
@ leftovers
252 Hp / 60 Def / 196 SpD
Careful
-Spikes
-Taunt
-Roost
-Whirlwind

Skarmory suggested by hector, joins th team with his flag ship mixed specially defensive set. Skarmory acts as the tams supporting back bone, having good synergy with tyranitar and manectric, while checking numerous threats and setting up additional hazards. The eves were suggested by hector to allow a good mix of special and physical bulk, with a base 140 defence, skarmory still reaches an impressive 331 defence with little investment, allowing patching of skarmorys meager 70 defence with a careful nature and the rest of eves in Hp and Spd. Skarmory's move set lacks any attacking move, leaving him prone to taunt, however the utility of the set more than makes up for it. Spikes allows skarmory to provide the team with additional hazards to wear threats down, taunt allows skarmory to stop other non attacking moves, whirlwind allows skarmory to force sweepers setting up on skarmory out and provide additional damage by forcing pokemon out and into SR + Spikes and finally roost allows skarmory to recover damage.

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
amoonguss.gif

248 Hp / 184 Def / 56 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold
-Giga Drain
-Clear Smog
-Hidden Power Fire
-Spore

Suggested by nedor and hector, amoonguss joins the team. With the mixed sets ability to do the 3 c's check counter and cripple threats to the team such as azumaril, amoongus provides invaluable support to deal with these otherwise crippling threats. The sets eves are as standard suggested by hector and nedor for the standard mixed set. The move choice allows for an attacking stab healing move in giga drain, clear smog rids any booosts from the oposing pokemon, useful for the likes of CM clefable, Hidden power fire allows amoonguss to hit the 4x fire weak pokemon that wall amoonguss very hard and finally spore cripples non immune pokemon with turns of crippling sleep.

hello malomyotismon, you have a decent sand offense build here, but there are definitely giant gaps and weaknesses that you have overlooked. something every build requires due to metagame standards and prominent threats is a consistent water resist with mons' like keldeo, manaphy, starmie, and azumarill running around. although the offensive aspect of the build is good, utilizing a few momentum generators, win condition, and wallbreakers, there is no real backbone to rely on when momentum is lost. also, there are definitely a few optimizations to be made to multiple sets / and spreads. the goal of the team is to abuse mega manectric's volt switch luring in stuff like lati@s, allowing it to get freely pursuit trapped for keldeo to clean through the opposing team, but i honestly find it to be a really inconsistent win condition in the current metagame due to its many unfavourable match-ups.

the first drastic change i will be making is opting for mixdef amoonguss > life orb gengar. gengar isn't really serving a role on the build that you don't already have, and it just stacks unnecessary weaknesses to the team. amoonguss provides a reliable check to most of the offensive water types mentioned above due to regenerator (mega manectric and a few other members of the build are capable of revenge killing ice beam | psychic manaphy and lo starmie), while also helping with the offensive fairy types that the team doesn't particularly deal with well. i specifically went with amoonguss as opposed to any other mon' that patches up weaknesses to threats because it is something that compensates for passivity and the momentum it loses through excellent utility moves, mainly referring to spore being able of restricting an opposing threat for a duration of the match, along with clear smog which means sweepers can't use it as fodder. also, it gives the team a more reliable switch-in to mega lopunny as an offensive landorus-t is your only check currently.

the next two changes were made to the team simultaneously because roles are just being switched around to make the build more optimal. firstly, specs keldeo should be ran over subcm for a few reasons; as i mentioned earlier in the rate, it is a really inconsistent win condition due to match-up problems, and the specs wallbreaker set is much more problematic (especially on this build) with pursuit support and the fact that mons' like tornadus-t get beaten down and pressured by mega manectric + sand. secondly, i find scarf landorus-t to be fairly redundant / counterproductive as you have solid revenge killers through excadrill in sand (especially with smooth rock tyranitar) and the fact that mega manectric runs through offenses fairly easily. for this reason, i am recommending double dance landorus-t as opposed to your current set. it find excellent set-up opportunities when utilized on this team because mega manectric, tyranitar, excadrill, and potentially keldeo depending on its range of health get revenge killed by offensive ground types, which landorus-t uses as free set-up fodder, while also remedying the loss of subcm keldeo as a win condition. not only this, but i find dd landorus-t to simply be a fantastic cleaner in the metagame.

as for a few smaller details, i'd definitely try running ice beam > fire blast on utility tyranitar to lure in a few bulky ground types that both excadrill and landorus-t appreciate weakened or removed before attempting to clean, not to mention fire blast is not really necessary with mega manectric, dd lando-t, specs keldeo, and lo excadrill pressuring the bulky steel types you mentioned. also, adamant > jolly should be ran on excadrill on this team for maximum damage output. jolly is not particularly needed either as adamant excadrill in sand still revenge kills relevant threats like +1 charizard-x and mega altaria.

edit: after AM brought it up, i realized frustration should definitely be ran instead of rock slide on excadrill to hit rotom-w much harder as it freely comes in on half the team and gains momentum. also, flying types like talonflame are dealt with well by mega manectric, landorus-t, and tyranitar anyways.

Yo malomyotismon, I like the basis of your team and Mega Manectric on sand has been used to some pretty good effect during OLT. I think most of the previous raters have done a good job at elaborating on the threats that your team faces, but I'll run through them quickly to justify the direction I think the team should take.
  • Keldeo as always is a massive threat, coming in for free on Tyranitar to get a free Scald or Secret Sword while outspeeding Mega Mane prior to Mega Evolution and OHKO'ing with Hydro Pump.
  • Opposing Excadrill look quite problematic as well. You have Jolly Excadrill which can beat most other Excadrill under Sand in a 1v1 situation, but it's a tough matchup to switch into because Scarf Landorus-T is blown away by two Iron Heads; after SD, nothing comes in without being OHKO'd.
  • Breloom and Azumarill are also nuisances because while you do have some checks in Gengar and Manectric respectively, both can be overwhelmed on the switch and they get free hits off on Excadrill, Tyranitar, and Choice-locked Landorus whenever they come in.
  • Mega Lop also carves up the build and can stall out Sand turns with Fake Out, which is quite annoying for the team as Landorus-T will be forced in on a regular basis to eat Stealth Rock, Return, and / or HJK while it can't OHKO in return without Superpower.
I think that these can be better handled without compromising the sand build. Nedor made a great rate already, but I'll go through my thought process anyways.
  • Mix Def Amoonguss > Gengar. This does wonders for the Breloom, Azumarill, and Keldeo matchups, and can also soft-check Mega Lopunny and Mega Diancie as they come in, provided of course that Mega Lopunny isn't Power-Up Punch. In that circumstance however you can Spore it and gain opportunities to win that way.
  • Mixed Defenses Specially Biased Skarmory > Scarf Landorus-T. Specially Defensive Skarmory gives the team a very reliable switch in to Excadrill and synergizes well with Tyranitar and Mega Manectric, who can respectively Pursuit Lati@s while checking ZardX (TTar) and abuse hazards with Volt Switch (Mega Mane). A mixed-defenses spread gives Skarmory enough defense to take two High Jump Kicks from Mega Lopunny before Rocks while being able to set up Spikes on Pokemon like Tank Fire Blast Garchomp, as well as offering a reliable switchin to Mega Venusaur.
  • Without Landorus-T and Gengar, the Mega Venusaur matchup isn't looking friendly. I recommend Specs Keldeo with HP Flying over SubCM to maintain Keldeo's role in checking Darks for the team while also being able to snipe Mega Venusaur on the switch. In addition it's a more reliable Scizor check than Mega Manectric and can deal with MSciz without needing to Scald burn it to win reliably.
  • Finally given that you're using SR + Spikes on this build consider using Adamant Rapid Spin > Jolly Swords Dance on Excadrill, with a Skarmory you don't particularly need to outspeed other Excadrill and need hazard removal as well (weak to spikes) and the power to 2HKO Garchomp which usually attempt to "spinblock" via helmet damage.
Think that's all I got, Nedor did a great job already these are just a few of my personal ideas. totally stole the amoon spread kek

Awesome, thanks for the help guys. I was feeling pretty off yesterday when I was making the team and these adjustments are perfect, I very much appreciate your input.

Hi mate cool team,

248.png

Chople TTar,
Chople ttar is a great mon in ou rn. It allows you to live a hit from m gard focus blast, gengar focus blast, charizard y focus blast, and more importantly mega alakazam focus blast. With chople ttar you now have a nice check to the mons listed above.

SD talon really helps the team out. Excadrill chips away at talons counters such as garchomp and landorus T, leaving room for talonflame to sweep. All around talon seems like the most solid option as it also gives you a nice way to beat scizor and a good late game win condition.

air balloon
with skarm being replaced with talon you become a little bit weaker to ground spam so you can really benefit from having balloon drill
