Krabby [QC 3/3]

Overview
########

The first thing that sticks out about Krabby are it's exceptionally high attack and defense stats. It's attack stat being one of the highest in the tier, only behind Archen and Cranidos. It also has access to two excellent boosting moves in Swords Dance and Agility, which combined with Krabby's coverage options, allow it to sweep unsuspecting teams. Some of Krabby's downsides, however, are it's low Special Defense and HP values, making it unable to go toe to toe with most special attackers.

Boosting Sweeper
########
name: Boosting Sweeper
Move 1: Agility
Move 2: Swords Dance
Move 3: Crabhammer
Move 4: Knock Off/Return
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Item: Eviolite/Berry Juice
EVs: 36 Spd / 236 Atk / 116 HP / 36 Def / 76 SDef
Nature: Adamant

Moves
========

- After an agility, Krabby outspeeds near everything, including common scarfers.
- Crabhammer is Krabby's only physical STAB. It hits very hard but unfortunately only has 90% accuracy.
- Hyper Cutter helps Krabby break through Snubbull and makes it a good switch-in to predicted Mementos.

Set Details
========
- EVs are used to outspeed all common scarfers. 116 Speed could be used to outspeed scarf mienfoo and chinchou, but generally the bulk will be better.
- Eviolite will be better for setting up against things that could threaten the OHKO without it, while berry juice is better against weaker moves and setting up against walls.
- If you do chose the berry juice route, keep in mind that many special moves will flat out OHKO you, meaning you never get to use your berry juice.
- Return has a high base power and the combination of water and normal goes nearly unresisted in Little Cup. Knock off can be used to hit things such as Ferroseed or Frillish.
-Adamant is used because you don't outspeed anything notable at 30 speed and the extra power is appreciated.

Usage Tips
========

- Switch in to something Krabby checks, and set up with Swords Dance or Agility as they switch out. Agility helps with faster threats and Swords Dance allows you to break down walls with ease.
- You should attempt a sweep after the major priority users have died, as Krabby does not have any priority itself.

Team options
========

- Krabby really appreciates hazards on the other side of the field.
- All grass types resist Krabby's weaknesses. Ferroseed being a notable one because it can also lay down entry hazards.
- Chinchou can absorb electric attacks aimed at Krabby, while carriers of Sap Sipper such as Deerling or Skiddo can benefit from the grass attacks.

Choice Scarf
########
name: Choice Scarf
Move 1: Crabhammer
Move 2: Knock Off
Move 3: Superpower/Brick Break
Move 4: Return
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Item: Choice Scarf
EVs: 196 Spd / 236 Atk / 36 Def / 36 HP
Nature: Adamant/Jolly

Moves
========
-Crabhammer is the hard hitting STAB you'll want to be using the majority of the time.
-Knock is always a great move in lc, and it helps Krabby support the team.
-Superpower is there mainly for pawniard and ferroseed.
-Return gives nice neutral coverage and without it, you're completely walled by Dry Skin Croagunk.
- Hyper Cutter helps Krabby break through Snubbull and makes it a good switch-in to predicted Mementos.

Set Details
========

- The speed EVs allow Krabby to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame.
- Adamant nature can be used for more power, but then you run into the problem of speed tying many threats. Jolly will outspeed common scarfers and Scraggy after one Dragon Dance.
- This set has amazing coverage, but requires correct prediction to be used well.

Usage Tips
========
- Good revenge killer.
- Is best used in the mid-late game, once the opponent's team is weakened so it is guaranteed KO's and does not have to take retaliation attacks.
- Krabby also does not have access to u-turn or any move to switch items, making it even more important to use Krabby later in the game.
- Don't switch into special moves, Krabby has awful special defense and sub par health.

Team options
========

Other Options
########

- You could run a life orb set that doesn't require set-up and excels at breaking walls
- Rock slide can be used on either set in conjunction with sheer force. Sheer force isn't very practical though, because of rock slide being the only physical move that notably benefits from it.
- If using sheer force and rock slide, switch out return for body slam.
- X-Scissor is another coverage move Krabby has access to, but there aren't many common threats in lc weak to bug.

Checks & Counters
########

**Grass types**: All the common grass types wall Krabby hard, notably cottonee who can also encore Krabby's boosting moves.

**Electric types**: Particularly Chinchou who can switch in easily and OHKO back. Magnemite can also switch in to any move but knock off, providing it still has Sturdy intact.

**Status**: Burns and paralysis severely hinder Krabby's ability to sweep or wallbreak. Even toxic can be bothersome for the set-up set as you will have to stay in for many turns.

**Frillish and Slowpoke**: Counter all sets lacking knock off.

**Croagunk**: Can switch into any move except return with ease and then beat Krabby.

  • The segments so far have the bare minimum things and should be beefed up to include more in-depth information. If this is something that you were going to patch up during the paragraph writeup, then fine, but I just wanted to be sure you know that detail is important. Try to be scrupulous.
  • Team Options is a sub-segment for every set in the analysis, not just a collective one at the bottom like Checks & Counters is. You should add ideal teammates for each set, while considering Krabby's weak points. Ferroseed is good, but also consider Chinchou, Helioptile, and carriers of Sap Sipper; also, any Grass-type in the tier covers both of Krabby's type weaknesses.
  • Mention that Krabby has, stat-wise, the highest Attack in the tier, second only to Cranidos. Also, be sure to add more emphasis to Krabby's poor special bulk; it really cannot stand up to special attacks, especially without Eviolite to support it when taking those sorts of attacks.
  • The Choice Scarf set should be emphasized as something that works best during mid- to late-game after the opponent's team is significantly weakened, because Krabby doesn't have U-turn like other Scarfers and is not exactly designed to take hits (especially special ones, as mentioned previously). Assuring the KO on most enemies later in the match means that Krabby won't have to suffer retaliatory attacks, allowing its full potential to show. You also might slash a Jolly nature with Adamant on this set so that you can outspeed a few boosted threats as well, instead of just tying with +1 Adamant Scraggy, for example.
  • Only 36 HP EVs are needed to attain the HP value you have with 40 in the Choice Scarf set's EV spread. It doesn't hurt to dump leftover EVs into a random stat when teambuilding, but for these analyses, we want the exact amount of EVs allocated while leaving leftover EVs out of the spread.
  • Good catch with Rock Slide and Sheer Force; I was going to specifically make sure that was listed. In Other Options, however, you should go into detail about how it isn't really practical to use Sheer Force on Krabby simply because Rock Slide is the only physical move it has access to that gets a boost from it without being offensively outclassed by its other options (Metal Claw and Rock Smash are not viable enough). Body Slam actually outdamages Return if Sheer Force is used, but it is still not recommended in most cases.
  • Add status to Checks & Counters. Burn is the most crippling to it, as it effectively neuters Krabby's offensive power, but paralysis can also make Choice Scarf worthless and make it easier to pick off with special attacks.

Very well done. I am confident in your work. QC 1/3 ♥

Included Krabby having the 3rd highest attack instead of second. Some people might like krabs in their pants so i decided to not include that. Do i write this in paragraphs now?
