The Little Cup ladder, to put it bluntly, kinda sucks. The crappiness of the ladder leads to less incentive to reach the top since it's not as hard as other tiers, which then makes the ladder worse, which starts a vicious cycle. So, we're taking an idea from the OU tier and creating our own ladder tournament to help boost the activity and quality of the LC ladder, while also providing incentive to do well through giving a chance to qualify for the invite-only tournament of the LC Tournament Circuit. Here's what you need to know about the ladder tournament:
1. This tournament is taking place on the regular LC ladder and not on any ladder of its own; the purpose of this tournament is to boost quality and activity on the ladder we currently have, not kill it by taking away all the players!
2. Listed below is the sign-up form for this tournament:
Just replace the number sign with the current week. You can have up to three alts per cycle, and each of them must match your current forum user name or be reasonably similar. DO NOT register or play on your alts before the cycle they are registered for starts! I don't have any kind of auth on PS!, but even I can see when an alt was created, and it's not hard at all to check. Even if you didn't play any games on it and just registered for convenience, I can't tell that. If you register an alt before that week's cycle starts, that alt is disqualified for that cycle. You can still play on a different one.
3. Each cycle lasts for 8 days, so that the cycle will end on a different day every week. We'd like to see more consistent activity, rather than just running the tournament from Monday - Sunday and only seeing activity on Sunday. Each cycle starts as soon as the previous one ends, and each cycle ends at 11:59:59 EST. If timezone differences become a problem and give unfair advantages to certain players, we'll start offsetting the deadlines by 6 hours. There will be 4 cycles in this tournament.
4. To qualify for the play-offs, you must place in the top 4 of all ladderers in the tournament. This does not necessarily mean placing in the top 4 of the ladder as a whole; for example, if the top 4 ladder tournament participants occupy spots 1, 3, 6, and 7 on the ladder, they all make it in even though only 2 of them are in the actual top 4. Basically, be one of the top 4 people whose alts have a [LT#A-C] tag, and you get in.
5. If a player has more than one alt in the top 4 at the end of a cycle, or qualifies in multiple cycles, their extra alts are skipped. For example, if the top 4 ladder tournament participants are at spots 1, 2, 4, and 6, and both 1 and 2 belong to the same person, the alt at spot 2 is skipped and the next alt after the one in 6th place gets a spot in the tournament. You can only qualify once and qualifying extra times gives you no benefits, however you can still sign up and play in each cycle if you like.
6. The playoffs are Best of 3, double-elimination, and with 4 qualifiers in 4 cycles, we will have a total of 16 playoff participants.
Cycle 4, the final cycle, ends on Thursday, June 4th.
