Project Counter that Threat! 21st Week: Snover - Counters Submissions

Goddess Briyella

Regenerator seals the deal on this one. Slowpoke can switch in and wall Omanyte several times throughout the match, whereas the other sets are either worn down by hazards over time or can only work once (or are complete garbage :/)

TCR was supposed to post the winner set(s) but he didn't do so for some reason (?).

Anyways, the winners this week were Goddess Briyella and The TurtleLord , both sets were awesome so I think they both deserve the win.

This week the Pokémon of the week is Life Orb Gastly w/ Sucker Punch:

(M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 80 Atk / 200 SpA / 200 Spe
Naive Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Sucker Punch

Submitting ends Sunday at 5pm GMT.

Munchlax @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
Level: 5
EVs: 236 HP/ 236 SpD
Careful
- Body Slam
- Pursuit
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

One of the best options for stall to deal with gastly and abra alike. In order to avoid the 3HKO, this spread must be run. It has to predict munch in order to 3HKO with sludge bomb the standard set, so if you're willing to take that risk, then go ahead. As long as it's at around 60%, it will counter gastly as it can rest off its damage and, if necessary, stall.
On my phone can't paste stuff
Sludge bomb has a 1.1 chance to 3HKO
Pursuit does about 30, but munch with rest can stall
76+ or more 2HKOs, so this set is more of a defensive counter :c

Introducing Berry Juice + Thief Croagunk

Croagunk @ Berry Juice
Ability: Dry Skin
Level: 5
EVs: 188 Atk / 116 Def / 196 SpD
Careful Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Drain Punch
- Gunk Shot
- Thief

This is a p cool Croagunk set that I found after staring at the teambuilder. After Berry Juice is consumed, Croagunk can use Thief and steal a opponents Eviolite or Berry Juice (kinda like BJ + Thief Snubbull). However, this set works really well as a Gastly counter too.

196 SpA Life Orb Gastly Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 196+ SpD Croagunk: 16-19 (76.1 - 90.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Croagunk always survives Shadow Ball, and can therefore safely switch-in and use either Sucker Punch or Thief next turn.

188 Atk Croagunk Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gastly: 20-24 (111.1 - 133.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 22, 24)

(Thief OHKOes 100% of the time too after Life Orb recoil)

Porygon @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
Level: 5
EVs: 236 HP / 36 Def / 236 SpD
Calm Nature
- Psychic
- Tri Attack
- Recover
- Thunder Wave

Specially Defensive Porygon can easily stop Gastly paralyzing it (or the Switch-in), 2HKOing it with Psychic while recovering on the Para turns. Tri Attack can prevent switch-ins on the T-Wave.

Calcs coming soon...

Chespin @ Eviolite
Ability: Bulletproof
Level: 5
EVs: 228 HP / 28 Atk / 76 Def / 156 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Rock Slide
- Seed Bomb
- Synthesis

Chespin enjoys switching into Gastly basically every time, thanks to Bulletproof. Bulk Up can be utilized to beat the common Fletchling/Archen switching when used alongside Rock Slide (and SR). Rock Slide also allows Chespin to score the 3HKO on Gastly, or the 2HKO at +1 as well. Lastly, Synthesis provides Chespin with a means to stay healthy and continually switch into Gastly.

To always win follow this:
First turn, go for Bulk Up.
Second turn, go for Synthesis.
Third turn, go for Rock Slide.
Fourth turn, go for Synthesis.
Fifth turn, go for Rock Slide.
196 SpA Life Orb Gastly Hidden Power Fighting vs. 228 HP / 156+ SpD Eviolite Chespin: 6-8 (24 - 32%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
(6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 8)

28 Atk Chespin Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Gastly: 7-9 (36.8 - 47.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
(7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 9)

+1 28 Atk Chespin Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Gastly: 11-13 (57.8 - 68.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 13)

Hippopotas @ Eviolite
Ability: Sand Stream
Level: 5
EVs: 212 HP / 20 Atk / 52 Def / 180 SpD / 20 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Slack Off

196 SpA Life Orb Gastly Shadow Ball vs. 212 HP / 180+ SpD Eviolite Hippopotas: 9-13 (34.6 - 50%) -- 11.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
20 Atk Hippopotas Crunch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gastly: 18-22 (94.7 - 115.7%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO (guaranteed with sand or LO damage)

spdef hippo is one of the best switch ins to this gastly set. moves are obvious besides crunch which is just there so gastly can't spam shadow ball looking for drops. with slack off hippo can stay healthy to counter gastly multiple times.

this week was basically who reserved stunky first tho

Diglett @ Eviolite
Ability: Arena Trap
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 156 Atk / 76 SpD / 236 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Earthquake
- Sucker Punch
- Filler
- Filler

After gastly uses shadow ball it has only attack moves which allows diglett to ohko it.

200 SpA Life Orb Gastly Shadow Ball vs. 36 HP / 76 SpD Eviolite Diglett: 12-16 (66.6 - 88.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
--
156 Atk Diglett Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gastly: 18-22 (94.7 - 115.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

reserving ferroseed

edit: this one is hard lemme think about it

edit 2: literally can't find something that hasn't been suggested that's too niche or doesn't get bodied by 2hko or sr switchin, so i concede for this week

- If you reserve something make sure to post it 12 hours max after posting a reservation, if you don't do so the Pokémon that you reserved would be able to be chosen by other users.
That's from the OP, never reserve if you don't know what to write. So people can reserve Vullaby, Stunky, Shelmet, Porygon, and Wailmer except for people who already reserved something else (people who got their reservations removed can still reserve something else.)

Stunky (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Aftermath
Level: 5
EVs: 92 HP / 220 Def / 188 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
- Defog
- Fire Blast/Crunch
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch

Stunky can switch in on any attack that gastly has and can trap it with pursuit, perfect counter.

Calcs:
200 SpA Life Orb Gastly Sludge Bomb vs. 92 HP / 188+ SpD Eviolite Stunky: 5-8 (20.8 - 33.3%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
200 SpA Life Orb Gastly Hidden Power Fighting vs. 92 HP / 188+ SpD Eviolite Stunky: 6-8 (25 - 33.3%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Pursuit does 73.6 - 94.7% when gastly doesn't switch out, and always ko's if it does switch. also sucker punch will always kill it (this gastly has no status moves)
