Week 8: King DDD Mega Altaria
altaria-mega.gif

Mega Altaria is an impressive threat, boasting a gigantic amount of resistances and defensive utility to go along with its already great bulk, thus allowing it to counter and force out a large number of Pokemon in OU, including Keldeo, Thundurus, and Mega Charizard Y. It's able to maintain itself throughout the course of an entire game thanks to Roost and Heal Bell, and it's also able to provide great offense as a Dragon Dance Sweeper. This cloud won't go down easily ;)

thundurus.gif
(M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Sludge Wave

As mentionned, King DDD Mega Altaria is able to check Thundurus. Unless it runs NP + Sludge Wave !

+2 252 SpA
thundurus.png
Hidden Power Flying vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD
altaria.png
: 168-198 (47.5 - 56%) -- 80.1% chance to 2HKO - Altaria is completely able to take +2 Thundurus on its more dangerous move, HP Flying.
+2 252 SpA
thundurus.png
Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD
altaria.png
: 352-416 (99.7 - 117.8%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO - Alaria is not able to take this one.

Note that i've been using the spread on the PS calc, you forgot to give us the one we were supposed to work with n_n

Also if you want a clean OHKO you can run Life Orb or Toxic Plate on Thundurus :)

Houndoom @ Houndoominite
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 40 HP / 8 Def / 208 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Sludge Bomb

Mega Altaria resists Mega Houndoom's dual STABs and doesn't care about Taunt or Wisp which are often run in the final slot. Therefore, you can choose to run Sludge Bomb, which 2HKOes Mega Altaria on the switch or even better, boost up on the switch and OHKO it with a +2 Sludge Bomb. This also allows it to hit Azumarill, Mega Diancie and Clefable very hard.

Edit: changed to offensive dazzling gleam Togekiss

togekiss.gif

Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Air Slash
- Dazzling Gleam
- Roost

M-Alt doesn't usually care much for Togekiss, taking very little from air slash, not caring about T-wave due to heal bell, so can come in and easily set up in Toge's face. Dazzling gleam however is a clean 2HKO, grab the nasty plot boost on the switch and it's even better:

+2 252+ SpA Togekiss Dazzling Gleam vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD Mega Altaria: 474-560 (134.2 - 158.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

NB please tell me if I'm using the wrong spread!
The spread on the calculator for King DDD (Defensive Dragon Dance) is 248 HP / 136+ Def / 96 SpD / 28 Spe so +2 252 Atk Garchomp Iron Head is not a clean OHKO move even with Garchompite (Iron Tail has a middling accuracy).

Set stolen from jordanthejq12 in "The next best thing" thread.

Banded Hoopa

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Band
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Drain Punch
- Gunk Shot
- Ice Punch

General idea: Hoopa-U has a higher SpA stats but its Atk is more than usable and a Choice Band maximize its offensive capabilities; Ice Punch solidly 2HKO Mega Altaria but, if the opponent lacks Steel types, you can go directly for Gunk Shot to do that:

252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa Unbound Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 136+ Def Mega Altaria: 340-400 (96.3 - 113.3%) -- 75% chance to OHKO (this is the reason you should use always Gunk Shot if you run a physical spread).
252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa Unbound Ice Punch vs. 248 HP / 136+ Def Mega Altaria: 214-252 (60.6 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

EVs spread and nature: max Atk and Spe plus a Jolly nature to outspeed some unboosted and uninvested threats.

Iron Head Garchomp
garchomp.gif

Garchomp @ Lum Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Swords Dance

M-Alt loves coming in on Garchomp, as it threatens with super-effective return, can't be phased out by dragon tail, doesn't take much from earthquake or stone edge, resists the usual coverage option in fire blast and recovers from toxic with heal bell. Iron head however is a clean 2HKO, or even better if you SD on the switch -
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Iron Head vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Mega Altaria: 322-380 (104.8 - 123.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Also useful for threatening Clefable, M-Gardevoir etc.
NB please tell me if I'm using the wrong spread!
Firstly yeah you calced the wrong Altaria set, secondly I find Iron Head Chomp pointless since it does just a tiny bit more than EQ, since EQ 100 base power*STAB (1,5)=150, and Iron Head 80 base power*super effective (2)=160. Not worth a moveslot on Chomp imo. Iron Tail hits considerably harder, but has shit accuracy.

497.gif

Serperior @ Life Orb
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power Ice
- Glare

Mega Altaria is a great switchin against Serperior due to its resist to grass and fire, and an immunity to dragon. Serperior can lure Mega Altaria in with HP Ice, which does over 60% after a Leaf Storm. Even when mega evolved, a Mega Altaria that switches in against a Leaf Storm with rocks up, loses at least 94% of its health.
With Glare, Serperior can also paralyze switchins like AV Tornadus-T and Mega Pidgeot, and also KO them with a combination of stealth rock, leaf storm and +2 HP Ice. Togekiss is another victim of HP Ice Serperior.

Calcs:
252 SpA Life Orb Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD Mega Altaria: 83-99 (23.5 - 28%) -- 86.4% chance to 4HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Serperior Hidden Power Ice vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD Mega Altaria: 205-244 (58 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Stealth Rock + Leaf Storm + Leaf Storm does 83,5% - 96,5%
Stealth Rock + Leaf Storm + HP Ice does 94% - 109,6%

Sorry again but honestly, Nape's Nape.
infernape.gif

Infernape @ Choice Band
Ability: Blaze / Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fire Blast
- Close Combat
- Gunk Shot
- whatever you want / Mach Punch

So Altaria's playing a normal game of 'mons when suddenly, it sees an Infernape! It decides to come in to hopefully wall and set-up... only to get 2(or O)HKOed by GS. Ekko spotlight reference aside, this acts as a nice-ish lure to Altaria. Once it decides to come in on it, you can click Gunk Shot to have a nice shot at OHKO-ing Altaria. After Rocks AND at least one layer of Spikes, you pretty much net a kill on Alt.

252 Atk Choice Band Infernape Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 136+ Def Altaria: 288-340 (81.5 - 96.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes

Otherwise, you can use something like LONape for the liberty of not having to switch after or ScarfNape to at least have Alt worn down by a SE GS. This set's just for the sake of the project. Either way Altaria's in for a shock once it comes in to a Band (or LO)-boosted Gunk Shot.

Warning: high ammount of swag in this set:

rotom-wash.gif

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-o-wisp
- Snatch

So basically you use burn on the switch, while your opponent send fearlessly Altaria to use rotom-w like setup fodder. So altaria get wow-ed, and it mega evolve while trying to use Heal Bell (or roost or dragon dance idk), then you use Snatch and either have your team cured of status because Heal bell stoled, get a free recovery out of Roost, or get the novelty of see a dragon dancing Rotom-w (!). Anyway if your opponent decides to attack, Return is only a 7HKO (8HKO if factoring the first turn you used snatch with lefties recovery):

0 Atk Pixilate burned Mega Altaria Return vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 54-63 (17.8 - 20.7%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

So you simply continue to use snatch on it. Then in a predicted turn you can volt switch to get momentum while switching into something which can give altaria the death strike.
This set is gimmick, but if your prediction is right it paid off, getting free recovery from chansey/clefable. Although you need be more prudent again dmeteors of lati@s due to lack of Pain split.

Posting from phone so sorry if I miss sprite ecc (if someon would edit my post it would be good, thanks)

Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 96 HP / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- Iron Tail
- Knock Off

Here's one of the most interesting Fairy Lure I'd Like to use. This stuff makes easy lure support For your Sweeper, 2HKOing almost every fairy type. Can't post calc cause of phone but is a good lure, I suppose hahaha

Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall / Earthquake
- Crunch
- Iron tail

hi so ddd altaria usually takes on mega gyara easily (+1 adamant ice fang only does like 60), however iron tail mgyara has a really big chance to straight up kill altaria at +1 after rocks
+1 252+ Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Iron Tail vs. 248 HP / 136+ Def Mega Altaria: 304-358 (86.1 - 101.4%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
Return 87 - 103.3%
+1 252+ Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Ice Fang vs. 248 HP / 136+ Def Mega Altaria: 198-234 (56 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
you can run jolly in theory, but you lose out on a lot (iron tail becomes like a 30% chance to kill after rocks)
