Other Monotype Ground

Hey guys! Cataquack64 here, and im here so you can rate my lastest team! But before I let you rate it... hear me out. I used to SUCK at ground mono. I either had too little offense or a team that could easily get rekted by Ice. But this team... is SOLID. Anyway, without further ado, heres my Ground Mono!

Landy (Landorus) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Knock Off
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

Landy is my Stallbreaker. Earth Power is its only STAB move, but deals a great amount of damage to anything that doesn't resist Ground or have Ground Immunity. Focus Blast helps him deal with any Ice or Steel threats like Abomasnow and Skarmory. Psychic helps my ground mono with the Hard-to-beat Mega Venusuar, and the Spore Spamming Breloom.

Gastric Bypass (Gastrodon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Stockpile
- Toxic
- Recover
Without this pokemon, it would be hard to handle Water. Stockpile and Recover ensures its longevity and Toxic helps Gastric handle any threats to it. Scald is its only attack, getting STAB, a possible boost from Storm Drain, and a 30% burn chance, making it harder to beat, if the foe gets burned.

Kingdom Come (Nidoking) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
Scarf Nidoking is a great set. It can easily outspeed and OHKO Greninja with ThunderBolt. It also helps out with Grass Threats such as Whimsicott and Ferrothorn using either Ice Beam or Fire Blast. Earth Power is also a good move, being able to OHKO any steel types other than Scizor, Skarmory, or any Pokemon with Air Balloon

Quake (Torterra) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Curse
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Seed Bomb
Quake, along with Gastrodon, helps me with Water. Curse is a Great Set up move, ensuring solid defense with Shell Armor, and boosting its Attack while Lowering its already useless Speed. Seed Bomb is its best STAB move, ohkoing water teams that doesn't carry Sap Sipper Azumarill. Earthquake is also another great STAB move, dealing heavy damage to anything and everything. Crunch is also an aok move, dealing massive damage to pokemon such as Sighilyph and Gengar.

Drillbert (Excadrill) @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Drill Run
- Iron Head
- Rock Tomb
- Swords Dance
Drillbert helps me deal with ice. After a Swords Dance, it can OHKO Ice and Fairies with Iron Head and Drill Run. It can also use Rock Tomb to outspeed some Pokemon thats faster than it. Mold Breaker also helps out so it can OHKO certain pokemon like Mega Aggron and Weezing.

Sydney Crosby (Piloswine) @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rest
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock
- Amnesia
This set helps me set up against Ice. Stealth Rock breaks Sturdies and Sashed Pokemon, making the battle easier. Amnesia ensures Special Coverage for Sydney, making it a Wall, and Rest restores it HP and gets rid of Status. Ice Shard finishes off any pokemon thats clutching a bit of its HP.

Cata, while I love seeing Ground teams being successful, I have to ask, what is your answer to Keldeo? Even Excadrill's Earthquake(which imo it should be running doesnt KO) and it can KO every single member of your team with one of it's common moveset,so i suggest a more physically defensive spread on gastrodon, to help deal with this threat

Also, while i congratulate you for using torterra, a seldom seen ground threat, I dont understand why it's holding a focus sash? with no means to remove hazards this seems like a very situational ability, and i feel leftovers would be more useful

Overall a nice Ground team, but in need of a couple of changes imo

Accidentally wandered on to this and I don't play monotype, but there are some very obvious oddities. Excadrill should be running EQ over drill run obviously, crit rate isn't worth the power loss and miss chance, and amnesia on Pilo doesn't make any sense. It's crazy bulky, but doesn't have much offensive presence and is weak to a lot of common types, making it much more situational than something like Icicle Crash or Toxic. Torterra is also odd, running bulky curse with a sash and no hazard support doesn't make sense. Since Gastrodon already covers most of the bulky sweeper spectrum with less weaknesses, torterra could either run dual dance (SD and Rock Polish over Curse and Crunch) or just one of them, having a life orb and max speed on both sets. Dual dance probably makes the most sense as crunch isn't amazing and it could be useful as a late game sweeper and stall breaker, both of which the team somewhat lacks (although idk if stall is a thing in monotype)

First, I would like to thank you for your advice, I already started to run EQ on my Excadrill. As for Pilo, I ruj Amnesia so it can guarantee good special coverage, seeing as how it has Defense Evs. I sash Torrterra because alot of teams carry one pokemon that knows an ice move, which would normally OHKO Torrterra, plus, Im thinking of replacing Crunch with Leech Seed anyway.

The problem with the sash is that you're just going to get KO'd the turn after they use ice beam anyway. I guess it could work as a lure for ice moves, but you have one resist and two neutral pokemon anyway, while you lack an offensive set up sweeper that can do good damage. As for "special coverage", Pilsowine has no recovery and low attack anyway along with a plethora of weaknesses, have you ever actually stalled a team out before?
