I was going to post something along these lines but Shaneghoul beat me to it! I've used this Skuntank EV spread before but the 24 HP EVs were just to give Skuntank a Leftovers number for Black Sludge, so imo just put these back into Atk to give 240+ Atk / 252 SpD / 16 Spe if you want to use this spread. That said, the extra Speed is probably more useful than the SpD on this set to ensure you can get the Memento off, so maybe just use the standard 232 Atk / 132 SpD / 144 Spe spread so you can Memento things like Adamant Samurott.

Core 1: Skunktank + Barbaracle

Core 3: Pyroar

I begrudgingly included Kiyo's post even though it didn't follow the rules. Also friendly reminder to actually write any cores you reserve in a post, if people keep slacking on them I'll just ask the mods to delete reservation posts. With all that out of the way, which core breaks Aurosis team the best? You'll have until Monday to decide. Here is the team again for reference.

Hey Shaneghoul's core wins this week, good job dude! New week means new team and boy do I have a doozy for you guys this time around.

A team made by rozes that netted him his third win in SPL yesterday. It features a few unconventional sets like Flame Charge Pyroar and Shuca Berry Skuntank which threw his opponent for a loop. The bigs may be a 0-2 team but rozes has managed to keep his winning streak alive because of solid builds like this.

“Wanted to use Shuca Skuntank + Scyther, as it can lure in Lix and a bunch of other things for a Scyther Sweep. Specs Sceptile was the next addition as it just hits hard as fuck, while being threatening to common Scyther switch ins so it can come in after U-Turn. Colbur Mesprit was added as a second fighting check, getting up rocks, and also goes w/ the VoltTurn core of the team. AV Lanturn is a cool set, beats Rhydon / Aboma and is another slow VoltTurner. Pyroar was the last mon added, as its very easy to volt switch into, and with Flame Charge it can sweep late game." - rozes 2016

Post cores until Friday just like last week, have fun breaking this team!

Rock Polish 3 attacks rhydon + toxic plate offensive spikes garb rips through this team with rocks up. Once rocks go up garb comes in on pretty much anything at gets up a spike and since mesprit is probably the initial switch in you can also get off 40% on that allowing rhydon to kill it with 1 megahorn. Explosion on garb stops skunk from defogging the spikes as it kills, from there rhydon just wins as scept is fastest mon and no priority as it sets up on pyroar skunk mesprit and scyther.

The first thing I noticed about the team was the weakness to physical based water moves with an offensive AV lanturn and a Specs Sceptile being the only resists.
Also Im surprised this team is fairly weak to Sub Barbaracle when it has been hyped alot recently and used in SPL to sweep multiple different opponents by different players. Memento Skunk/Mismagius has been posted before and it is an awesome way to get setup chances for Barb. Skunk can Memento on almost every mon if it gets a free switch since Rozes team is mostly special and carries no Ground moves. The items I have seen with Sub Barb are White herb or Shuca berry however Lum seems best in this case as you can avoid mindgames with the Mesprit with going for Psychic/Twave as you Sub/Smash. Also the lack of priority on this team makes it alot harder to revenge Barb even though if Skunk was physical and carried Sucker Punch you could dodge with Sub :] Watch out for Aftermath though !

Barbaracle @ Lum Berry/White Herb
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Skuntank @ Lum Berry/Dread Plate
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 232 Atk / 128 SpD / 148 Spe

- Pursuit
- Memento

Barb
+2 252+ Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle Razor Shell vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Scyther: 243-286 (70.8 - 83.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252+ Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Sceptile: 389-458 (138.4 - 162.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle Razor Shell vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Mesprit: 213-252 (58.5 - 69.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle Razor Shell vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pyroar: 794-936 (253.6 - 299%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Lanturn: 425-500 (108.6 - 127.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Fodder

0 SpA Mesprit Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 115-136 (40.3 - 47.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Mesprit Psychic vs. -1 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 172-204 (60.3 - 71.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO*
8 Atk Scyther U-turn vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Barbaracle: 73-87 (25.6 - 30.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

*Depends on if you run Lum or White Herb since you gain a free turn by either subbing on the Twave or eating your Lum.

After Memento

-2 252+ SpA Skuntank Hidden Power Grass vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 112-132 (39.2 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-2 252 SpA Pyroar Hidden Power Grass vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 136-160 (47.7 - 56.1%) -- 73.8% chance to 2HKO
-2 252+ SpA Lanturn Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 102-122 (35.7 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-2 252 SpA Choice Specs Sceptile Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 192-226 (67.3 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO*

*This would be if Sceptile went for Focus blast on Skunk as you Memento'd. Barb can setup on a -2 Focus Blast (barely) or a choice Locked Hp Ice.

These calcs mainly show that Barb can use Scyther as Setup fodder, choice locked Sceptile into Hp ice, or Mesprit if you play correctly around Twave with Sub. Every other mon can be setup on after a Memento even Skunk and Pyroar running Hp grass due to their choice of items in favor of Life Orb.

It's easy to rely on sweepers / combination of sweepers in these type of exercise because no team can check everything, so let's try something different.

+
(or any Scyther counter)

This team has rather poor Special / Physical split. This doesn't matter much vs a lot of meta builds because Specs Sceptile has enough power to plow through sponges like Hariyama. But against special walls that provide a long term solution to Sceptile and Pyroar, such as Sliggoo, the weakness becomes painfully obvious. Sliggoo naturally synergizes very well with many Pokemon with high Defense stat that also happen to counter Scyther. Throw in an obligatory stealth rocker (or just pick a Scyther wall that has SR!), this progress becomes much quicker: Skuntank is forced to take chip damage every defog, and the moment Skunk is gone, Scyther is stuck with dealing with SR and cannot spam U-turn, and Sliggoo wins outright. Scyther has U-turn to keep momentum but it must eventually SD or Roost to stop Sliggoo from making progress on the rest of the team, which lets the physical wall make progress instead. However, the team cannot gain any relevant ground against the core without getting help from a series of crits or misplays. I'm submitting Quagsire as my Scyther check because it's what I used recently building w/ someone, but it's clear that Steelix would do the job just as well, if not better. You're gonna want SR somewhere anyways so it's not like having both is out of the question, either...

For a volt-turn based team facing a reactive team, which should be generally good matchup, this matchup is about as unwinnable as it can get.

- Earthquake
- Toxic

8 Atk Scyther U-turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 67-79 (17 - 20%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
8 Atk Scyther U-turn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Steelix: 22-27 (6.2 - 7.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever
8 Atk Scyther U-turn vs. +1 252 HP / 164 Def Eviolite Sliggoo: 48-57 (14.1 - 16.7%) -- possible 6HKO
252 SpA Pyroar Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 92+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 67-79 (19.7 - 23.2%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ SpA Lanturn Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 92+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 78-92 (22.9 - 27%) -- 40.7% chance to 4HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Sceptile Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 92+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 86-102 (25.2 - 30%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Skuntank Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 92+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 49-58 (14.4 - 17%) -- possible 6HKO
0 SpA Mesprit Psychic vs. 252 HP / 92+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 51-61 (15 - 17.9%) -- possible 6HKO

As for the core's general viability against other threats, the defensive synergy of Sliggoo countering most Grass-types is obvious, as well as pairing physical and special walls together. They're pretty good together defensively.

I pointed this out to rozes after he built it and played a part in looking over the team and helping with the idea behind it when he built it, so I guess I'll give a bit of an inside perspective and my own personal belief as to how to break it.

The team has no normal resists and fat Mesprit gets overwhelmed by normal offense (Normal Spam, if you will) eventually, so I feel like this core would be in an advantageous position against the team, but it wouldn't necessarily 'just win' unless it plays around Mesprit and the constant offensive presence that Rozes' team presents, of course.

This core pressure so much of his team, Rhydon being the star can OHKO or severely damage his entire team with just coverage options as well as Rock Polish. Camerupt is really uncomfortable for him to switch into speaking the only thing that isn't hit super effectively is a PhyDef Mesprit. Lanturn is a jerk but as long as Camerupt isn't choice locked into a move set it should be scared to switch in.
