Vileplume @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Def / 56 Spe
Bold Nature
- Moonlight
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Worry Seed
Vileplume is a great partner, being able to check both fighting and ground types and also being able to beat malamar, since malamar can beat this core if it sets up before your own malamar. Also helps checking sd samurott and other water types like lanturn that can be a pain to this core if it has signal beam. Not much more to say, just that this core would be a bit weak to fire.

With the help of me, myself, and I, this week's winner for threat is Shadestep's Weezing and the winner for partner is ~Eternally's Pelipper. Congratulations!

This week's core is one I found recently that I love for its offensive synergy as well as its defensive synergy...
+

Archeops
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Acrobatics
- Stone Edge
- Earth Power
- Roost

Jynx (F) @ Focus Sash / Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lovely Kiss
- Nasty Plot
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock

This offensive core can easily pressure the opponent by luring in physical walls via Archeops or by sleeping a would-be check with Jynx's Lovely Kiss. Jynx also provides a very solid Water check, allowing her to plow through for Archeops to threaten the opponent even more since most Archeops's checks are Water-type or weak to Jynx's STABs. Focus Sash can guarantee Jynx lives a hit since it is very frail, but Life Orb gives it more initial power so both items deserve a mention.

The threat nomination period will end on Thursday. You may now post threats to this core.

Banned deucer.

Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 196 HP / 252 Atk / 60 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard

-Piloswine is a big threat to this core, being able to easily shut down archeops with Ice shard and put it into defeatist range while archeops cant do much back, its also a great check to jynx since it resists Ice and psyshock wont do a lot of damage since piloswine has high defense stat boosted by Eviolite, and earthquake+ice shard will revenge kill Jynx.

Rampardos @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Slide
- Zen Headbutt
- Superpower
- Fire Punch

I've been using Scarf Rampardos for a bit and man this thing is awesome. Ramp outspeeds both mons and OHKOs Archeops and Jynx with Rock Slide and Rock Slide/Fire Punch respectively. If Jynx is sashed rocks/spikes are needed to kill it ofcourse. Rampardos is fun to use and can act as a revenge killer!

Credits to Adaire who showed me the raw power of this monster.

Kabutops @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
- Superpower
- Filler

Stone Edge = GG
252 SpA Jynx Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kabutops: 322-380 (123.3 - 145.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
RIP Kabutops unless it's in a Rain team
Jynx don't use Focus Blast in this core, sry, my bad

252 Atk Primeape Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx: 375-442 (138.3 - 163%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Primeape U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx: 294-346 (108.4 - 127.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Primeape Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 240-283 (82.4 - 97.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Primeape Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 268-316 (92 - 108.5%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Due to its core fraility, Primeape Scarf is a really big threat to it, it can OHKO Jynx (unless it uses Sash and the field is without Stealth Rocks), and with Stealth Rocks it can OHKO both with Close Combat, and Stone Edge may OHKO Archeops anyway, Primeape also can U-Turn out OHKOing Jynx / activing Sash and give momentum to its team.

Metang @ Eviolite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Toxic / Pursuit

Metang is an amazing check to this core because of the fact that it can check both of these mons offensively and defensively. Also sets up rocks in Jynx's face, which makes it a great role compressor. You could even use Pursuit over Toxic to trap Jynx and dispose of it quicker.

252 SpA Jynx Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 200 SpD Eviolite Metang: 43-51 (13.2 - 15.7%) -- possible 7HKO
252 SpA Jynx Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Eviolite Metang: 17-20 (5.2 - 6.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever
4 SpA Archeops Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 200 SpD Eviolite Metang: 92-110 (28.3 - 33.9%) -- 0.8% chance to 3HKO

0 Atk Metang Meteor Mash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 218-258 (74.9 - 88.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Metang Meteor Mash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jynx: 338-402 (124.7 - 148.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Hitmonchan (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Mach Punch
- Rapid Spin

-Hitmonchan is one of the best spinners in tier, and this core appreciates hazards being removed, hitmonchan also breaks steel/rock types that stops archeops from late game cleaning while having useful priority. Altough AV set is cool,I went for LO set just because its an offensive core and it appreciates more power but it depends on team.

Samurott @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot/Aqua Jet
- Megahorn

Does well vs most of those threats mentioned and appreciates cheops + jynx weakening seed + lanturn, beats every rocker barring mesp which is useful because both cheops and jynx despise rocks.

Vileplume @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Moonlight
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Vileplume helps this core as it gives a nice pivot into things like Kabutops, Hitmonchan and Primeape, which are otherwise major threats to the core. HP Fire is to 'lure' Ferroseed for both Archeops and Jynx, and Giga + Sludge Bomb are all standard. The EV spread is a bit customized but it's for Samurott mainly, being able to check both versions of it. Oh and Vileplume also beats Lanturn

Garbodor @ Toxic Plate
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Spikes
- Gunk Shot
- Seed Bomb
- Focus Blast

Garb is a solid partner for this core, resisting fighting-type attacks, while also surprising things such as Ferroseed, Steelix, and Rhydon with it's power and coverage. Spikes are also really good with Archeops + Jynx since they force so many switches.

Again, with the help of me, myself, and I, this week's winner for threat is ~Eternally's Metang and the winner for partner is PrinceLucian's Hitmonchan. Congratulations!

This week's core is one I found has a ton of defensive synergy and is a nice fit onto more balanced teams.
+

Vileplume @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Moonlight
- Hidden Power Ground

Grumpig @ Colbur Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 160 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave

Vileplume is a nasty deterrent for most Fighting-types as well as being a decent stop to most physical attackers that try to take advantage of Grumpig's less than stellar Defense stat. Grumpig not only provides decent defensive synergy by taking Psychic-type moves, but it also brings along with it a Fire and Ice resistance thanks to Thick Fat, making it a very good partner for Vileplume. Grumpig also handles faster threats that may plague this core by crippling them with Thunder Wave while simultaneously forcing the opponent to attack with Taunt, providing speed control and stallbreaking all in one.

The threat nomination period will end on Thursday. You may now post threats to this core.

Rowan (Scyther) @ Eviolite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace
- Roost

CB Scyther works too I guess, but Scyther can just SD up on Vileplume (and dodge an Effect Spore sleep/paralysis), and U-turn out of Grumpig whenever it wants. it beats the core straight up as it can switch in on both, although it has to be wary of SR + Sludge Bomb poison from Vileplume I guess. Grumpig doesn't run Power Gem so you could even set up on that too.

Samurott @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Aqua Jet
- Megahorn

Mixed Sammy does a decent job against these 2, almost KO'ing Pig and a solid 2HKO on Plume. Bit controversial submitting a Water type maybe but it also deals with Steelix, which is the preferable partner for this core.
Calcs:
4 Atk Life Orb Samurott Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Grumpig: 320-377 (87.9 - 103.5%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Samurott Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Vileplume: 244-289 (68.9 - 81.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Mesprit @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Signal Beam
- U-turn

-Balanced cores like this have no switchins for specs mesprit, and looking at the core steelix is obv the best stealth rocker which just gets bopped by ice beam, moveset is pretty standard and i choose U-turn over sleep talk for momentum and you dont want to get pursuit trapped by skuntank. Its a rly cool set and surprizingly effective.

Haunter can easily destroy this core, 2HKOing Vileplume and receiving max 36% damage in return, about Grumpig it can get OHKOed by Shadow Ball, principally with Stealth Rock, but if it fails to OHKO, Grumpig lacks reliable recovery so it can be easily revenge killed by anything...it have also Destiny Bond if needed just to leave one of these two if needed.
252 SpA Life Orb Haunter Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Vileplume: 191-226 (53.9 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
0 SpA Vileplume Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Haunter: 70-83 (30.3 - 35.9%) -- 40.3% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Haunter Shadow Ball vs. 160 HP / 0 SpD Grumpig: 289-343 (84.7 - 100.5%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Haunter Shadow Ball vs. 160 HP / 0 SpD Grumpig: 289-343 (84.7 - 100.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Grumpig Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Haunter: 404-476 (174.8 - 206%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Swellow @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Facade
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Quick Attack / Protect

Specs Swellow is obviously the most common set rn, however Guts Swellow can still be very effective, particularly against this core. Once its Toxic Orb has been activated Swellow can dismantle this core, OHKOing Vileplume and Grumpig with Brave Bird and Facade respectively.

252 Atk Guts Swellow Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Vileplume: 354-416 (100 - 117.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Guts Swellow Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Grumpig: 364-430 (100 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Steelix @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 240 HP / 128 Atk / 136 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

Steelix helps the core deal with Scyther, Swellow, and Archeops, all of which the core struggles with otherwise. It also provides a better CM Musharna switch-in, which Grumpig is kinda iffy against. SR are always a cool thing to have, and supports every Pokemon pretty much.

edit: HOLY FUCK 666TH POST

Banned deucer.

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 104 HP / 232 Def / 172 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Scald
- Heal Bell
- Thunder Wave

-standard choice for balance, walls special water and fire types for core not allowing grumpig to be pressured and taking all the special hits. Core is really weak to weezing because it beats vileplume 1v1 and grumpig is weakened by sludge bomb + poison chance especially if opponent has a good psychic check, so having a cleric is useful.

Another week, and again, by myself, this week's winner for threat is Shadestep's Scyther and the winner for partner is PrinceLucian's Lanturn. Congratulations!

This week's core is one I stole from PrinceLucian on the Good Cores thread.

Archeops
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Acrobatics
- Earth Power
- Roost
- U-turn

Musharna @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Signal Beam
- Moonlight

-This is a balanced core ive been using on many teams lately since its pretty versatile and fun. Basically archeops became a great pokemon again after sceptile got banned and I actually dont see it that much, but I think 140 atk+acrobatics is just amazing, coupled with its great speed and being able to clean games with ease, on the other hand Musharna is a great wall for balance, being able to check so much stuff with its great bulk and break through many teams with CM, they also work great together because archeops lures rock and steel types like steelix with Earth power which 2 ko-es it and allows musharna to setup easier, it also checks bug types like pinsir and Scyther which are big threats to mushy.
-Potential Partners: good edgequake check, special sweepers check(water, ice, fire),stealth rocker and a hazard control.

The threat nomination period will end on Thursday. You may now post threats to this core.

Samurott @ Mystic Water
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Megahorn
- Aqua Jet

Samurott can stop either of these two in their tracks, easily putting Archeops into Defeatist range with an unboosted Aqua Jet and having a 50/50 chance to OHKO if Stealth Rocks are up. Samurott can even take an Acrobatics if it wants to get a Swords Dance and enter Torrent range. Meanwhile, Samurott can force out Musharna with the threat of a +2 Megahorn, while Musharna struggles to deal enough damage back to KO with even a +2 Psyshock.

252 Atk Archeops Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Samurott: 217-256 (65.5 - 77.3%)
252+ Atk Mystic Water Samurott Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 204-242 (70.1 - 83.1%)

+2 0 SpA Musharna Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Samurott: 208-246 (62.8 - 74.3%)
+2 252+ Atk Samurott Megahorn vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Musharna: 384-452 (88.6 - 104.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
