Sawk @ Choice Band | Sturdy
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe | Jolly
Close Combat | Knock Off | Stone Edge | Zen Headbutt

"Sawk used Close Combat! The opposing Sliggoo/Steelix lost 100% of it's health! The opposing Sliggoo/Steelix fainted!"

e: sawk doesnt ohko lix from full anyways because of sturdy. I thought it was pretty obvious that i was being facetious but apparently it goes over some people's heads.

Malamar @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SpD / 16 Spe
Careful Nature
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Malamar switches into and sets up on both threats. Malamar has the advantage over Curse Sliggoo because of Knock Off, the ability to deal damage while it boosts, being faster, and not having to rely on Sleep Talk to call its attacking move.

Mismagius @ Colbur Berry/Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hex
- Pain Split

Missy can burn and cripple both mons and hit them hard with Hex. Taunt prevents Sliggoo from boosting/healing and Steelix from wearing it down with Toxic.

Btw the Sawk set above needs Adamant to have a better chance to OHKO Lix since its 25% if Jolly or 38% after SR.

Rhydon @ Eviolite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Polish
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Rhydon can 2HKO both mons without +2 Atk. It can use Sliggoo to set up since Outrage does little damage and it outruns it with the boosts. Rhydon is a real threat after getting its boosts and it's really fun to use. Jolly over Adamant so it can outpace Scep after a Rock Polish.

Some calcs:

180+ Atk Steelix Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 144-170 (41 - 48.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
180+ Atk Steelix Heavy Slam (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 116-138 (33 - 39.3%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO

Weezing @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 108 Spe
Bold Nature
- Will-o-Wisp
- Taunt
- Flamethrower
- Pain Split

Burn both mons and Taunt the Sliggoo to prevent Rest or Sleep Talking Curses. Not as quick as Oda's Mismagius at dispatching the core but certainly much safer to switch in; not much else that needs to be said here.

Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Atk / 64 Def
Adamant Nature
- Mach Punch
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Bulk Up

Nothing too complicated here, Gurdurr switches in and sets up on both Sliggo and Steelix, beating either 1v1 with ease. Gurdurr also has the added utility of being able to Knock off Sliggo's eviolite, and not fearing Steelix's Toxic due to Guts.

0 Atk Sliggoo Outrage vs. 252 HP / 64 Def Eviolite Gurdurr: 73-87 (19.5 - 23.2%) -- possible 5HKO
192+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Sliggoo: 123-145 (36.1 - 42.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
136+ Atk Steelix Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 64 Def Eviolite Gurdurr: 102-121 (27.2 - 32.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
192+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Steelix: 120-144 (34 - 40.9%) -- 47.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Whoops the notification I got from Aurosis' post reminded me that I forgot to change this. Anyways, the threat nomination period is over. You may now post partners to the core from now until Friday.

Samurott @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Megahorn
- Aqua Jet / Hidden Power Electric

Otter is a nice partner for this core, taking advantage of the defensive synergy which Lix and Sliggoo supply, whilst in return giving the core some much needed firepower, as well as something that break down a lot of its threats, i.e, Malamar, Weezing, Rhydon, Mismagius and Gurdurr. The choice between Jet and HP Electric is personal preference between bopping Mantine/Pelipper or picking weakened stuff off with priority.

Mesprit @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Psychic
- U-turn/ Signal Beam
- Toxic
- Energy Ball

Mesprit is a good defensive partner for this core since it helps Steelix with its type and ability. Energy Ball helps the core against Smashers and Rhydon. I think it will be easier to add offensive partners to this core since adding a defensive Ice-resist just makes it worse. T-Wave is not needed since this core is already slow.

Grumpig @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Signal Beam

An offensive partner for the core that brings some defensive merits. The core gets destroyed by powerful Ice-types, so an aggressively played CM Grumpig can put the momentum of the game in your favor. Grumpig also appreciates how Steelix destroys opposing Skuntank and Sliggoo appreciates how Grumpig can man-handle opposing Steel-types with Focus Blast.

Thanks to Mahmudkipz and shadestep this week for helping choose the winners. This week's winner for threat goes to Punchshroom and their Weezing while the win for partner goes to Disjunction and their Grumpig. Congratulations!

This week's core is...
+

Sceptile @ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty / Naive Nature
- Rock Slide
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Leaf Storm / Focus Blast

Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Flame Charge

This offensive core works to set up a sweep with Magmortar. Sceptile breaks down bulky Waters and weaken walls for Magmortar to set up and sweep. The good thing about Magmortar's set is with Assault Vest, it can be an amazing pivot early- to mid-game. Magmortar also helps get rid of Grass-types easier for Sceptile, which can really threaten a team as most teams have only one Sceptile answer.

The threat nomination period will end on Tuesday. You may now post threats to this core.

Sawk @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge

scarf is broken as shit and can OHKO both of these mons with little chip dmg (1x SR switchin). set is normal, you can change Jolly > Adamant if you like but outspeeding Omastar at +2 (in general) is pretty nice.

Sliggoo @ Eviolite
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Outrage

Last week: Showcases a core using Sliggoo
This week: Showcases a core obviously hardwalled to fuk by Sliggoo

The Sliggoo boner is strong in NV >.>

Calc:
252 SpA Life Orb Sceptile Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 72+ SpD Eviolite Sliggoo: 75-91 (22 - 26.7%) -- 18.6% chance to 4HKO
(tfw this is the strongest attack this core has for it)

Swellow @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Facade
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Quick Attack

252 Atk Guts Swellow Facade (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Sceptile: 364-430 (129.5 - 153%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Guts Swellow Facade (140 BP) vs. 64 HP / 0 Def Magmortar: 357-420 (116.2 - 136.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

It outspeeds both mons and outspeeds Magmortar after a Flame Charge. Even if Swellow can take an HP-Grass from Magmortar, Swellow doesn't want to switch in since it does get worn down pretty quickly by its Toxic Orb.

Ok it is time for partners. This round ends Friday. (Late again, sorry about that)

P.S. astroboy I will give you 24 hours to do your Scyther threat post if you still want to :o

Scyther @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Aerial Ace
- U-turn
- Brick Break / Quick Attack
- Knock Off / Quick Attack

Scarf Scyther deals with all fighting-types in a 1v1 situation, as 252 Atk Aerial Ace does a buttload to most things that don't resist it. Knock Off is really nice to get rid of Steelix' lefties so that it never gets back to Sturdy meaning you can OHKO it with either Sceptile and Magmortar. Magmortar deals with the Steels + Ice-types that Scyther struggles with and Sceptile is a sturdy check to all rock-types.

Barbaracle @ White Herb
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Razor Shell
- Stone Edge
- Return

Barbaracle suits this team really well since they form a nice FWG core. After a Shell Smash this monster can deal huge chunks of damage and it outspeeds everything that's unboosted in speed. Barbaracle gives you an OK Flying aswell as a Normal resist. It also deals with the specially defensive mons the other two have to deal with. The only problem Barbaracle has are Mach Punchers because they prevent Barb from going on a killing spree.

Garbodor @ Life Orb
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Focus Blast
- Seed Bomb
- Toxic Spikes

Offensive Garbodor is a great partner for these two. Both Scep and Mag hate Toxic Spikes which Garb can absorb, and conversely set up it's own Toxic Spikes on the other side of the field, weakening common checks to Scep and Mag such as Hariyama and Musharna. Scep and Mag also have trouble breaking through Pokemon like Sliggo and Mega-Audino, who are both decimated by Life Orb Gunk Shot. Lastly, Garbodor provides a check to Fighting types such as Scarf Sawk and Primeape who both provided issues for the core.

252+ Atk Life Orb Garbodor Gunk Shot vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Audino: 276-328 (67.3 - 80%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Garbodor Gunk Shot vs. 252 HP / 176 Def Eviolite Sliggoo: 191-226 (56.1 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Samurott @ Rindo Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Megahorn
- Swords Dance

Samurott forms a nice F/W/G core, provides priority, and a setup sweeper for the core. Magmorter/Sceptile do not like to face opposing mixed Sceptile. With a Rindo Berry, Samurott can lure Sceptile in and either OHKO or setup and proceed to kill Sceptile and sweep/dent the other team.

252 SpA Life Orb Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Rindo Berry Samurott: 185-218 (55.8 - 65.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Samurott Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Sceptile: 340-402 (120.9 - 143%) -- guaranteed OHKO

K Then (Jynx) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Lovely Kiss

Scarf Jynx can outspeed and kill Scarf Sawk, Swellow, and Hariyama and also kill Sliggoo with Ice Beam after a bit of prior damage. It also can immobolize a switchin with Lovely Kiss for Sceptile and Magmortar to capitalize on, and it adds an extra Water switchin so Sceptile isn't worn down by Volt Switches and Scald burns. Overall a great partner to the core.

Thanks to lolbro and Sir Kay this week for helping choose the winners. This week's winner for threat goes to Punchshroom and their Sliggoo while the win for partner goes to BrandonBeast and their Jynx. Congratulations!

This week's core is...
+

Charizard
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Acrobatics
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Hitmonchan @ Assault Vest / Fist Plate
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 44 HP / 252 Atk / 212 Spe or 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Ice Punch
- Rapid Spin

This core is pretty much standard for any team with Charizard as Hitmonchan is arguably the best spinner in the NU tier. Charizard can burn things and set up fairly easily with Acrobatics providing an amazingly powerful STAB. Hitmonchan can run a good amount of sets, but these two are the most common ones that get paired with Charizard. Assault Vest allows Chan to take powerful special hits while it recovers a ton of HP while Fist Plate provides Hitmonchan with more power to break past Rock- and Steel-types that plague Charizard.

The threat nomination period will end on Wednesday (since I had a small hiatus). You may now post threats to this core.

Mesprit @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid / Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Psyshock / Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot / Signal Beam

252 SpA Life Orb Mesprit Psychic vs. 44 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Hitmonchan: 203-242 (80.5 - 96%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mesprit: 89-105 (29.5 - 34.8%) -- 9.8% chance to 3HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Mesprit Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Charizard: 252-299 (70.1 - 83.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Mesprit Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Charizard: 194-230 (54 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
8 Atk Charizard Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mesprit: 100-118 (33.2 - 39.2%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO
I've faced off against this core my fair share of times on the ladder, and I have to say that offensive Stealth Rock Mesprit is easily one of the biggest annoyances for the core to have. Non-LO Mesprit can run into certain issues when confronting Charizard directly, but it is usually easily able to set Stealth Rock on Zard's side of the field, severely neutering the latter's presence. Really, Mesprit's biggest strength as a Stealth Rocker is its ability to combat any hazard remover / preventor in the tier that it wants to (and it covers a lot in just 3 attack slots), which is a major pain for Charizard.

Archeops
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Acrobatics
- Stone Edge
- Earth Power
- Roost

Although Archeops has limited switchins to these to it can revenge and threaten both of them, even if it gets down to Defeatist range. Also because Chan isnt't running LO or Band Mach Punch doesnt have a good chance to put it in Defeatist range. Chops can switch into an Acro but has to be wary of Will-o and can't switch into chan unless you predict an obvious Mach Punch.

0 Atk Charizard Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 72-86 (24.7 - 29.5%) -- 100% chance to 4HKO
252 Atk Archeops Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Charizard: 844-996 (234.4 - 276.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Fist Plate Iron Fist Hitmonchan Mach Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 127-151 (43.6 - 51.8%) -- 9.8% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 264-312 (90.7 - 107.2%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Archeops Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hitmonchan: 462-546 (191.7 - 226.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
