NU Fluffball Destruction!

epikkyogre78

Banned deucer.
Hello, everyone, epikkyogre78 here with my very first RMT! I'm very excited to do this. For my very first RMT, I have here an offensive team that consists of 4 offensive Pokémon and is backed up defensively by a defensive combination of Alomomola and Roselia. This team is right now, at about the mid 1700's on the NU ladder, but I would love to have it go even farther. I am willing to try out any changes you guys may want to make to the team. With that said, lets meet the team.

Teambuilding Process:
image.jpg
The primary goal of this team was to use Jumpluff (don't laugh) to wreck the opposition. I was inspired to abuse his ridiculously good Flying Gem set after reading about it.
image.jpgimage.jpg
Next, I added Golurk, who is a very good lead that I've used in the past, and can abuse the No Guard/Dynamicpunch combo and set up Stealth Rocks.
image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
Next, I added Charizard as a secondary sweeper to aid Jumpluff and to roast Steel types. Plus, he looks awesome.
image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
Next, I added Eelektross as a Bulky Specs user, because I had seen people use him well before, so I thought I might as well try him.
image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
Then, a needed a defensive core for my team, so I looked at my options. I eventually chose Alomomola and Roselia for my core, because they have good synergy together, and they can spread status and stack spikes, which go hand-in-hand with Golurk's rocks to help wear down the opposing team for Jumpluff and company.
image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
Eelektross wasn't pulling its weight at all, so I replaced it with Scarf Electabuzz. He helps me KO sweepers and gain momentum. In my opinion, he's a very underrated Pokémon.
image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
I was having trouble with Psychic/Flying types, so (thanks to Dat Blast and Ranger Dell) I got rid of Golurk and replaced him with Metang. This way, I have a surefire answer to the Psychic types that once plagued my team.

On to the sets;

60 / 75 / 100 / 55 / 80 / 50
Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 176 Atk / 80 SpDef / 252 HP
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Meteor Mash
- Toxic
- Bullet Punch

This is usually my lead. I originally had Golurk in this spot, but I changed it, thanks to Dat Blast and Ranger Dell. This way, I have a good answer against Normal, Psychic, and Flying type attacks, which are common throughout the tier. Meteor Mash is for STAB and high power, Bullet Punch is for outspeeding Jynx, Stealth Rock to help wear down the opposing team for Jumpluff and company, and Toxic is to nail walls. Clear Body makes sure my stats aren't lowered, and the EVs are standard.
image.jpg
78 / 85 / 78 / 109 / 85 / 100
Charizard @ Leftovers
Trait: Solar Power
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Sunny Day
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Grass

This guy takes care of many things that would otherwise wreck this team, such as Steel types and Exeggcutor. Fire Blast is for STAB, Focus Blast is to hit Rock-Steel-types like Probopass and Bastiodon, HP Grass is for Water- and Ground-types, and Sunny Day is to power up my attacks by activating Solar Power. The EVs are standard. Just your average sweeping set.

65 / 83 / 57 / 95 / 85 / 105
Electabuzz @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Ice
- Thunderbolt

This is my revenge killer, the psycho electarized monkey known as Electabuzz. He is great at picking off Pokémon and gaining momentum. Volt Switch picks off weakened Pokémon and helps gain momentum, HP Ice is for Ground- and Grass-types, Thunderbolt is for a stronger Electric STAB, and Focus Blast is for hitting specific types like Rock, Steel, Normal, and Dark-types. Vital Spirit is great for absorbing sleep from the likes of Roselia, Butterfree, Jumpluff, etc. The EVs are self-explanatory.

75 / 55 / 70 / 55 / 85 / 110
Jumpluff @ Flying Gem
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Swords Dance
- Seed Bomb
- Acrobatics

This is the star of the team right here. Jumpluff is so good it's ridiculous. The gameplan for Jumpluff is to safely switch in, preferably after foddering a Pokémon, and wreck s***(sorry for swearing). You can take down a threat on the spot, or put 'em to sleep and boost up. Once your attack is doubled, maul your opponent with three cotton balls. Could anything in Pokémon possibly be more satisfying?
image.jpg
165 / 75 / 80 / 40 / 45 / 65
Alomomola @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDef
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic

Alomomola forms part 1 of my defensive core. She can wall physical attackers unlike no other. Wish/Protect is for healing, team support, and scouting. Toxic is to wear down the opponent, and Scald is for the burn chance. I had to choose between Waterfall and Scald, and personally, Scald was a no-brainer. You're gonna be up against physical attackers; might as well burn them, right? Alomomola won't exactly be getting the medal for strongest attacker, so why choose Waterfall?
EVs are standard, ability, item, etc.

image.jpg
50 / 60 / 45 / 100 / 80 / 65
Roselia @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpDef / 252 HP / 4 Def
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Spikes
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb

Roselia is part 2 of my defensive core, and my Spiker, too. With Eviolite, Roselia is actually surprisingly bulky, capable of taking even some super effective hits, such as Ludicolo's Ice Beam. Spikes is obvious, Synthesis is for healing, Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb are for coverage and STAB, Natural Cure is obvious, EVs are to maximize special bulk.

Threats To Fluffball Destruction

- Psychic types are a huge threat to this team if Metang goes down. Usually, I can restrain them from doing any significant damage to Fluffball Destruction.

- Stealth Rocks are a real annoyance for this team. Usually, I Dynamicpunch the opponents Stealth Rock setter or try to take it down before it gets them up.

For now, I can't see too many problems with this team, but if you find one I've missed, please tell me. Also, since this is my first RMT, I don't know how to show/hide stuff, like the import-ready version of the team and the teambuilding process. Could someone please show me how to do that?
Anyway, comment, reply, and rate this team. Don't forget to take it for a spin on Showdown or PO.

Thank you!

Hi @epikkyogre78 , and welcome to Smogon!

Overall, a pretty solid team, but I see a few big weaknesses. First and foremost is your massive weakness to Psychic, as you have no resists and strong Psychics like Jynx can easily switch in on your defensive core (Alomomola/Roselia) and proceed to wreak havoc. The second is your weakness to Flying, as again you have no resists, and threats like SubBU Braviary can set up against you and destroy. On that note, I don't really like Roselia on your team, as it stacks weaknesses with Jumpluff and contributes to your team's major weaknesses. I think you should replace Roselia with offensive Metang, as it provides some much-needed Psychic and Flying resistances while synergizing well with Alomomola.

Also, your Charizard set could use a bit of changing. While Sunny Day Charizard is a fine set in its own right, none of your team particularly benefits from the sun other than Jumpluff, and Zard's SR weakness + Solar Power recoil + lack of Roost = :(. I think you should change it to standard Life Orb Charizard with Blaze, who can be a major threat without the need to set up, while also boasting recovery in Roost so it doesn't die so quickly.

Finally, I'm going to recommend some changes to your Alomomola. Your team is very weak to opposing Charizard, since if it gets a free switch-in, it can destroy something. I think you should change the EV spread to 136 HP / 252 Def / 120 SDef, which allows you to take special hits from Zard much better, while still retaining maximum physical bulk. On another note, you might want to consider Waterfall over Scald, since it does more damage to Charizard. Besides, you're gonna be doing more Toxic stalling than burn stalling, so more often than not Scald's burn chance is pointless.

Hope I helped, and good luck with the team!

Suggested changes:

Alomomola: current EV spread --> 136 HP / 252 Def / 120 SDef, Scald --> Waterfall

Metang @ Eviolite
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Atk / 80 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Psych Up
- Meteor Mash
- Toxic
- Bullet Punch

Charizard @ Life Orb
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
-Fire Blast
-Air Slash
-Hidden Power Grass
-Roost

Dat Blast, thanks for the rate!
I agree that Psychic types are a big problem for my team. However, Flying types such as Braviary are not as big a problem as you might think, because I can usually wall them with Alomomola or take them out with Electabuzz after taking a resisted Brave Bird. I'll try out the changes you talked about, then I'll get back to you. :D

Hey there.

I think a simple suggestion that can be taken account for to deal with Psychic-types a bit better would be to replace Golurk with Metang and have it function as an Offensive Stealth Rock tank. It may cut down some momentum when facing opposing Charizard, but Golurk doesn't exactly help with its current moveset either and is not a very reliable stop for Stealth Rock most of the time. You also provide yourself with something that can deal with the aforementioned threats very reliably, and can allow it to support the team with Toxic to counter Musharna, and Bullet Punch to hit Jynx before it can use Lovely Kiss (while also being able to comfortable switch in on the two and other Psychic-types really well). It provides a nice additional Normal- or Flying-resister that comes in handy when facing something like Choice Band Braviary. With that, you can keep Roselia on this team as its roles of stacking up hazards and checking various Electric-types well are still going to be the main function of the team's strategy to ensure certain KOs with Jumpluff. It also gives you something to help pick up the slack when facing powerful Water-type threats like Ludicolo, which is something this team has naturally underwhelming damage output against which give it plenty of opportunities to setup and ravage your team wholeheartedly.

Otherwise, I agree with the suggestion of Life Orb Charizard and Alomomola, and I think Metang would play the more optimal user of Stealth Rock. Keeping Roselia is going to be important to help Jumpluff take advantage of hazard support and for having a Ludicolo check for the team. Good luck, and hope I helped.

Offensive Tank Metang > Golurk (first set on the analysis).

Thanks for the rate, Ranger Dell! I think I will get rid of Golurk instead of Roselia, although nothing's final yet, and I do like Dynamicpunch. I will definitely add Metang though, thanks to you and Dat Blast! Also, I will implement the changes to Charizard and Alomomola's movesets. Thanks, both of you!

I have officially replaced Golurk with Metang. Now I can laugh at Jynx, Exeggutor, Swellow, Braviary, and tons of other pokes. :D Thank you Dat Blast and Ranger Dell. And to anyone else reading this, feel free to suggest any changes you may want to make to the team.
