Omastar

Overview
########

Omastar finds a unique niche in RU as an excellent support Pokemon for offensive teams thanks to its access to every entry hazard except Sticky Web. Its natural power and good coverage options allow it to hit most Defog users hard; in addition, it is fairly physically bulky, although less so after a Defense drop from Weak Armor. However, Omastar struggles to perform well in other roles because it is very frail specially and is extremely slow. These flaws, as well as its unimpressive match-ups against common Rapid Spin users, leave Omastar far from perfect.

Suicide Lead
########
name: Suicide Lead
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Scald / Hydro Pump
move 4: Ice Beam
ability: Weak Armor
item: Focus Sash
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid

Moves
========

Omastar boasts access to every single entry hazard except for Sticky Web, and this set looks to take advantage of this by setting up hazards quickly at the beginning of the match to support hyper offense teams. Thanks to Focus Sash, Omastar is almost always able to get Stealth Rock up unless it is hit by Bullet Seed or Taunted, but if Omastar has more free turns, it is also able to set up Spikes to put even more pressure on the opposing team; alternatively, Spikes can be replaced with Toxic Spikes to weaken certain defensive cores. To avoid becoming setup bait and to further take advantage of Omastar's stellar Special Attack stat, a STAB move is recommended. Scald is the preferred option for the burn chance; however, Hydro Pump offers more raw power in exchange for accuracy. Ice Beam provides decent coverage alongside Omastar's Water-type STAB moves and hits most Defog users hard.

Set Details
========

The EVs and nature allow Omastar to set up as many entry hazards as possible before fainting while still being able to deal heavy damage to Pokemon that try to remove its hazards. Focus Sash is the preferred item to ensure Omastar is able to set up at least one layer of hazards.

Usage Tips
========

This Omastar variant is best used as a lead to ensure Focus Sash is intact when it is sent into play, and if you are confident in your ability to keep its entry hazards on the field, this Omastar is best played as a suicide lead. However, if the opponent has a Rapid Spinner or Defogger and your team does not have a method to effectively block or discourage it, Omastar can instead be saved for later in the match, but this situation is not ideal and should be avoided in teambuilding.

Team Options
========

Omastar is best used on hyper offense teams, which tend not to mind having a member down at the start of the match as much. Hyper offensive teams greatly appreciate the entry hazards and are more able to maintain momentum to prevent the opponent from using Rapid Spin or Defog. To maintain the hazards, a Ghost-type such as Doublade, Mega Banette, or Mismagius helps to block Rapid Spin, while Braviary can discourage the use of Defog by taking advantage of it to gain a Defiant boost; however, most Defog users will be hard-pressed to use it when faced with Omastar's Ice Beam.

Other Options
########

Icy Wind can help Omastar set up another layer of hazards by allowing it to outspeed faster Pokemon. Due to its high Special Attack and good coverage options, Omastar can also act as a decent Shell Smash sweeper with a set of Shell Smash / Hydro Pump / Ice Beam / Hidden Power Grass; Ancient Power is its best special Rock-type STAB move, but Ice Beam does the same damage, and Ice Beam and Hidden Power Grass hit more Pokemon super effectively alongside Hydro Pump. Earth Power is an option to OHKO Lanturn after a Shell Smash and 2HKO without, a feat none of Omastar's other attacks can perform, but it has limited uses outside of that. Omastar is one of the best Rain Dance sweepers available, taking advantage of Swift Swim and being able to fire off incredibly powerful Hydro Pumps, but if not used on a dedicated Rain Dance team, Shell Smash is usually better for sweeping. A defensive set is able to take advantage of Omastar's access to hazards, but it is hampered by its lack of reliable recovery. Omastar gets access to Knock Off, but there are far better users of the move available. A physical sweeping set is entirely outclassed by Barbaracle and, to a lesser extent, Kabutops and Carracosta.

Checks & Counters
########

**Cinccino**: Cinccino is able to cleanly OHKO Omastar with Bullet Seed through its Focus Sash.

**Hitmonlee and Hitmontop**: Hitmonlee and Hitmontop are able to bring Omastar down to its Focus Sash with their STAB Fighting-type moves. They can then either follow up with Rapid Spin to KO Omastar while removing the entry hazards it has set or use Mach Punch if Omastar chose to attack on the first turn.

**Faster Special Attackers**: Special attackers that can outspeed and 2HKO Omastar will prevent it from setting up more than one layer of entry hazards, but they must be wary of being hit hard by one of Omastar's attacks.

**Fast Physical Attackers**: Powerful physical attackers that are able to outspeed +1 Omastar and 2HKO it can also prevent it from setting up more than one layer of entry hazards, but they also must be careful of simply being attacked.

I think you might wanna explicitly mention Gastrodon as a target for HP Grass, since he's by far the most relevant target (other not extremely bulky Water-types are still hit quite hard by Hydro Pump, whereas he's immune) and he's a foolproof counter to any set that lacks this move.

I don't have much experience using the hazard stacking set, and I don't believe it should be the first since I think the SS set influences the metagame better but I'll follow Spirit's lead here.

Not QC or anything but just a few thoughts on the SS set:

name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Hydro Pump / Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass
ability: Swift Swim
item: White Herb
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid / Modest

This is what it should look like tbh. Weak Armour is bad because Omastar really wants to keep its bulk seeing as it takes priority (mach punch, sucker punch) rather well. Weak Armour is OO material if anything, shouldn't even be in Set Details.

[Moves]
There really aren't Dragon-types besides Druddigon, so maybe just mention that. Ice Beam is primarily for Grass-types. Also specify Alomomola as a target for HP Grass.

[Usage Tips]
Remove Lum Berry mention, and make sure to emphasize on the pros and cons of using Life Orb. More power at the cost of instantly dying to priority. With White Herb, Adamant Lee Mach Punch does like 60% maximum and Zoroark does 40-51% with 252 atk LO.

[Team Options]
Remove mentions of Weak Armor and Choice Scarf Cinccino, that's not a thing.

[Checks & Counters]
Add Mienfoo As stated before, Choice Scarf Cinccino isn't really a thing. Instead, mention Delphox.

Again, not QC, just a few thoughts :]

Slash Scald with Hydro Pump on the Suicide lead set. Actually I think that Scald > Hydro Pump, since Scald is more reliable and that chance to burn helps against spinners/defog like hitmontop or golbat, ice beam will hit anyways to gligar so the extra damage to Hydro Pump is not needed when Scald gives you an extra point.

I sort of like Weak Armor to outspeed super fast scarf users, and it also allows Oma to pose as a bit more of a threat to offensive teams if it doesn't get the opportunity to set up Shell Smash. Of course, more bulk is nice so can QC weigh in on this pls

Ok, let's see how this cool thing is:

[Suicide Lead]

- Scald is the primary STAB move. Reflect this when you talk about the STAB options
- I'd honestly mention Shell Smash in Moves. It would best be used over Rocks and would serve to give Omastar more flexibility when it comes to how it's played; set Spikes or boost up depending on the the opposing team and the lead it's faced with
- Most Defoggers dislike Ice Beam as well, so make mention of that

[Shell Smash]

- First off, Weak Armor should be the only slashed ability. The possible extra boost in Speed gained from a resisted physical move (Brave Bird, Facade, Flare Blitz, etc.) is way too good to pass up
- Put Swift Swim in Set Details for when this set is on a rain-based team, as it will be superior in that scenario
- Remove White Herb. Also feel like Lum Berry should be the primary slash to grant Omastar more flexibility when setting up against more defensive teams
- Mention LO Moltres. It crushes Registeel and is a very solid switch-in for Escavalier.
- Slowking sucks ass. Commonly has AV + Dragon Tail and Regen makes it hard to wear down. Use things like Zoroark, Hitmonlee, and Durant to knock it out or at least remove AV to give Omastar a shot

[Other Options]

- Gets Knock Off somehow. Probably worth mentioning just to say there are much better users of it than Omastar

[Checks and Counters]

- Slowking is the #1 answer to Omastar. Dragon Tail phazes out the SS set and removes its boost while also breaking the Sash of the hazard lead while forcing it out. It also has Regenerator, making it extremely resilient
- Note that Sucker Punch users have to be cautious of Omastar nabbing extra boosts and attempting to stall out its meager 8 PP

Tag me once these changes are made so I can take a 2nd look and make sure everything's good to go.

  • In Usage Tips of the Suicide Lead, explain when you would Shell Smash (Taunt leads, when a Defog user switches in, etc.)
Looks good otherwise, so

Change up Earth Power's point in OO to something like: Earth Power can be used to hit Lanturn as it takes next to nothing from Omastar's other moves. I still would mention Slowking somewhere as Dragon Tail breaks the Sash and forces Omastar out, usually limiting it to a single layer, and it takes jack shit from Omastar's attacks. Otherwise, looks fine

In set details you need to point out Max SpA allows it to annihilate common defoggers, other than that it looks p good, also remove Slowking from C&C, omastar can set up multiple hazards throughout the game on slowking itself.

frenzyplant good check; I'm stamping this. Just remember that you should use "entry" in front of "hazards" once per paragraph; it's not needed all times, but once per paragraph is a good rule I follow.
