also if someone wants to code this that would be super cool, thanks

5 am incoherent review lets go
:kabutops: regen mon number 1. Though it's offensive regenerator and I hope to see how it plays out.

:omastar: regen mon number 2. A much bulkier guy that looks like a pain to deal with. Might form a core with kabu but hilariously they're both weak to Ground.

:aerodactyl: intimidate mon number 1. a fast ghost support sounds scary, but as Beaf said the lack of good Flying-STAB and coverage holds it back enough, should still be good though.

:cradily: it's a bulkmon with Pheal, very straightfoward. I might be a little hesitant about the sig though, since it has no way to boost its SpAtk outside of like, Meteor Beam.

:armaldo: intimidate mon number 2. can spin and and form an intimidate core with Aerodactyl, especially since it covers Aero's weakness in Electric.

SLATE 2- Modern Dinosaurs (Heliolisk, Lapras, Meganium)
:swsh/heliolisk: :swsh/lapras: :swsh/meganium:

Welcome to the first Ancient Form slate! The goal for this slate will be to create ancient versions of the mons listed above, which will follow the same rules as regional variants. Speaking of, the rules for submission are as follows:
  • You can sub 1 to 3 of the Pokémon chosen in this slate (reworks on existing Pre-Evolutions can also be made if you want)
  • Make sure your sub would be balanced in an SV OU power level (since it's early in the meta, your mon doesn't need to have counterplay currently, but it shouldn't be stronger than what already exists.)
  • Custom Elements are allowed, as long as they are different from already existing abilities/moves and are relatively simple to code (no custom field effects - we're learning from last gen lol. Also, if you think it's codable but our coder disagrees, then you'd better be prepared to code it yourself if it wins.)
  • Since this is an Ancient Form slate, make sure your submissions have the same BST as the original Pokémon. That means Heliolisk should have 481 BST, Meganium should be 525, and Lapras should add up to 535.
  • To clarify, any Pokemon not currently in Generation 9 will instead use its Generation 8 movepool minus dexited moves (aka moves that are unusable in SV).

:rb/lapras:

Name: Lapras-Ancient
Original Pokémon: Lapras
Typing: Dragon/Fairy
Abilities: Natural Cure/Soul Heart
Stats: 130 HP/ 65 Atk / 80 Def / 105 SpA / 95 SpD / 60 Spe

New Moves: Draco Meteor, Calm Mind, Wish, Heal Bell , Moonblast, Draining Kiss, Earth Power, Teleport
Removed Moves: Freeze Dry, Ice Shard

Role:
Flavor: Same case as my previous submission with aerodactyl, Lapras has a lot of dragon-type moves. Its fairy typing comes from how it helps other pokemon, which it can do here with wish and heal bell. It also comes from the fact that lapras were considered to be almost extinct, to the point of where they lost their original fierce but helpful naturr

:gs/meganium:

Name: Meganium-Ancient
Original Pokémon: Meganium
Typing: Dark/Steel
Abilities: Serene Grace, Strong Jaw (HA)
Stats: 80/105/82/73/80/105 (525)

(based off of bdsp movepools)

New Moves: Crunch, Pursuit, Meteor Mash, Flash Cannon, Power Whip, Superpower, Jaw Lock, Thunder Fang, Ice Fang, Snap Trap

Removed Moves:

Role: Dark/Steel pursuit mon, you've seen it already with bisharp and kingambit. provides a good offensive check to omastar and good vs other mons, while somewhat suffering vs aerodactlyl wisp
Flavor: based on a carnivorous plant, keeps its grass moves because of that. Gives it a pretty good offensive capability because of that. Serene grace boosts its wallbreaking potential to extremely potent levels however

:xy/heliolisk:

Name: Heliolisk-Ancient
Original Pokémon: Heliolisk
Typing: Electric/Rock
Abilities: Defiant / Tough Claws / Bright Might (This pokemon's moves are critical hits under sun)
Stats: 94/111/55/60/50/111

New Moves: Stone Cutter Accelerock, Stone Edge, Stealth Rock, Liquidation, Close Combat

Rock type Leaf Blade clone

Removed Moves:

Role: to abuse the current intim users, however has defensive issues. Can also use tough claws/ abuse sun
Flavor: idk heliolisk looks like it would be a Mon that would attack with its claws (this is the past of all lizards)
It would have bigger and longer claws with more raptor like features, with a similar head

Original Pokemon: Heliolisk
Typing: Electric/Ground
Abilities:
Dry Skin/Solar Power | Compound Eyes
Stats: 75/22/70/109/84/121 (481)
New Moves: Earth Power, Earthquake, Mud Shot
Removed Moves: Dark Pulse, Surf, Dragon Pulse
Role: Fast wallbreaker, capable of offensively checking the Kabutops + Omastar regen core while not outclassing Armaldo since this is a special attacker, Armaldo is also able to check it, since both of its STABs cannot hit Armaldo supperefectively, its also able to run Thunder or Focus Blast with more consistant accuracy cus of Compound Eyes
Flavor: Desert lizard ig, also curiosly, in its level up movepool it learns Bulldoze and Mud Slap naturally, will probably draw if it wins

:sv/Lapras:
Name: Lapras-Ancient
Original Pokemon: Lapras
Typing:
Water/Fighting
Abilities:
Water Absorb/Hydration | Defiant
Stats: 105/120/90/80/80/60 (535)

New Moves: Close Combat, Superpower, Focus Blast, Karate Chop, Brick Break, Vacuum Wave, Wave Crash, Aqua Jet, Poison Jab, Gunk Shot, Swords Dance
Removed Moves: Ice Shard, Ice Beam, Sheer Cold, Icy Wind, Hail, Avalanche, Blizzard, Dragon Dance, Megahorn
Role: Slow offensive wallbreaker, can check both Armaldo and Aerodactyl cus of Defiant protecting it against Intimidate, as well as having a great offensive typing, with good STABs in Close Combat and Wave Crash, as well as good coverage in Poison Jab/Gunk Shot for Cradily, Iron Head, Zen Headbutt, and Drill Run, as well as the abilty to set up with SD, balanced out by its slow speed, mid defensive typing, and weak defensive stats considering its low speed
Flavor: Lapras without is shell, goes more into its plesiosaurus inspiration, will probably draw if it wins

:sv/Meganium:
Name: Meganium-Ancient
Original Pokemon: Meganium
Typing: Grass/Electric
Abilities:
Overgrow | Rough Skin
Stats: 80/67/100/118/90/70 (525)
New Moves: (Using gen 7 movepool as base cus it isnt in gen 8/9) Thunder, Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, Wild Charge, Thundershock, Charge, Parting Shot, Knock Off
Removed Moves: Reflect
Role: Similar as my Cradily from last slate, but more adapted to face the new threats, slow offensive pivot and wallbreaker with a good offensive and defensive type, able to face Kabutops Electric STAB, and can punish pivoting with U-Turn or Flip Turn into it with Rough Skin, good pivoting in Volt Switch and Parting Shot, and Knock Off as an utility move, but balanced out by a very mid SpAtk, and defenses, as well as only offensively checking the Regen duo since they can hit it supperefectively with their Poison STAB
Flavor: Same as my Cradily sub, some plants being able to produce electricity with certain nutrients, will probably draw if it wins

New Moves: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Flare Blitz, Will-O-Wisp, Dazzling Gleam
Removed Moves: Surf

Role: Fast special wallbreaker with a useful water immunity. can also become a sun abuser if drought ever gets added in
Flavor: heliolisk is heavily associated with the sun; shield's dex entry mentions helio basking in the sun. helio literally means sun in ancient greek

Abilities: Cloud Nine / Shell Armor / Bulletproof
Stats: 130 / 90 / 100 / 95 / 75 / 45 (535 BST)

New Moves: Draco Meteor, Dragon Tail, Spikes
Removed Moves: None

Role: bulky spikes tank. bulletproof blocks useful moves like focus blast and energy ball.
Flavor: lapras is very dragon-like in its appearance. it also gets a handful of dragon moves in its base form's movepool, such as outrage and ddance

New Moves: Earth Power, Jungle Healing, High Horsepower, Calm Mind, Encore, Psychic, Weather Ball, Heal Bell
Removed Moves: None

Role: cm wallbreaker/sweeper. can also be a cleric with heal bell
Flavor: meganium basically steals torterra's typing, who is a later grass starter. both grass and ground are types that are often associated with nature, with ground types representing soil and dirt and grass types representing literal plants and flora.

Meganium-Ancient
Original Pokemon: Meganium
Type:

Abilities: Overgrow, Inner Focus
Stats: 100 | 100 | 90 | 90 | 90 | 55 [BST= 525]
New Moves: Dazzling Gleam, Flash Cannon, Flower Trick, Gyro Ball, Iron Head, Spikes, Spiky Shield, Stun Spore, Toxic, U-turn, -Synthesis
Removed Moves: Ancient Power, Double Team, Flail, Poison Powder, Rock Smash, Swords Dance
Competitive Role: All-rounder fat mon with a lot of tools at its disposal: Leech Seed + Spiky Shield pressures the opponent hard with chip damage, STAB Flower Trick gives it solid, reliable damage output, and slow pivoting via U-turn. Grass/Steel is a phenomenal typing whose worse matchups with the mons we have so far are neutral ones against Aero and Armaldo. Just an overall solid support pivot.
Flavor: Larger and longer Meganium with more jagged, metallic-looking plant elements on its body

Evolution: from Helioptile (Ancient) via a Sun Stone

New Moves: Sludge Bomb (level-up), Gunk Shot (level-up), Cross Poison (level-up), Fire Fang (TM), Thunder Fang (TM), Acid Spray (TM), Charge Beam (TM), Fire Spin (TM), Poison Tail (TM), Flame Charge (TM), Dragon Tail (TM), Venoshock (TM), Dragon Claw (TM), Poison Jab (TM), Toxic Spikes (TM), Will-O-Wisp (TM), Heat Wave (TM), Flamethrower (TM), Nasty Plot (TM), Fire Blast (TM), Overheat (TM), Flare Blitz (TM), Toxic (TM), Heat Crash (TM), Burning Jealousy (TM), Scale Shot (TM)
Removed Moves: Mud-Slap (level-up), Bulldoze (level-up), Pound (level-up), Dig (TM)

Role:
Fast and fierce but also worryingly frail, Ancient Heliolisk is an all-out attacker with a stronger attack stat at the cost of severely reduced special defense. As such, it's able to employ physical STAB like Wild Charge and Gunk Shot alongside special STAB such as Thunder and Sludge Bomb, along with Fire- and Dragon-type moves like Fire Blast or Dragon Pulse as all-around neutral damage and coverage options. Like its modern counterpart, its access to Volt Switch enables it to peace out should it find itself overwhelmed, although this is easily stopped by Ground-types which will force it to run either Solar Beam or Surf to deal with them as well, though those are at least useful options for sun and rain weather teams, respectively. Merciless gives it a nice niche as a wallbreaker that can put defensive opponents on a timer before critical-hitting them to shreds at a moment's notice, although care must be taken not to get too greedy - it can't stand taking any damage whatsoever and has no answer for entry hazards, and if it can't get any team support against a Ground-type or switch out of range of a good solid Earthquake, it's good as dead.

Flavor:
This ancient kind of Heliolisk has more monitor-lizard-like proportions than its modern descendant, with a longer torso and tail and a longer neck and head. It has two separate frills, one on each side of the neck, that flare out into a 120-degree circular wedge shape with saw-like edges; these are still black, but the triangles on the edges are purple and there are several thin, purple eyespots with yellow centers on them for a more intimidating look. A single row of triangular black plates like a cartoon dinosaur also runs down the back and partway down the long, whip-like tail, which has two pairs of tiny purple spikes like a Stegosaurus tail at the tip (the back half of it is still black like in Kalosian Heliolisk). Its arms and legs are Charizard-like with three large, sharp claws each, and while usually bipedal, it can drop down and slither on all fours if it chooses. Two large, purple fangs like Seviper's protrude from the upper jaw near the end of the snout, the tongue is forked like a snake's, and the ridges over the eyes are enlarged into two purple triangular crests like a Dilophosaurus or the horns of a horned viper. Instead of triangle-shaped markings, it has purple scar-like stripes on its back, thighs, and the base of its tail, not unlike the striping of a lace monitor. Its overall body color is still yellow, but with a slightly more orange tint to it, while its eyes are solid fiery orange, with slitted, viper-like pupils. Its shiny sprite has regular Heliolisk's colors.
This variety of Heliolisk is almost twice the size of its Kalosian counterpart, rearing up to a height of 6', and weighing in at 90 pounds due to its lanky, slender build.

"A large, vicious variety of Heliolisk from a time long ago. It subdued its prey with a bite that was both electrified and venomous, instantly paralyzing it."
"Stalking from the underbrush, it flares out its frills to draw its prey's attention before it strikes. It can spit its conductive, toxic saliva over a considerable distance."

Typing: Electric/Poison
Abilities: Dry Skin/Merciless (Hidden Ability: Solar Power)
Stats: 44 HP/48 ATK/33 DEF/61 SP ATK/33 SP DEF/70 SPD = 289

New Moves: Sludge Bomb (level-up), Gunk Shot (level-up), Cross Poison (level-up), Thunder Fang (TM), Acid Spray (TM), Charge Beam (TM), Poison Tail (TM), Dragon Tail (TM), Venoshock (TM), Dragon Claw (TM), Poison Jab (TM), Toxic Spikes (TM), Nasty Plot (TM), Toxic (TM), Scale Shot (TM)
Removed Moves: Mud-Slap (level-up), Bulldoze (level-up), Pound (level-up), Dig (TM)

Flavor:
A simpler design than its evolution, this ancient Helioptile has a more Charmander-like body albeit with a more slender torso and limbs, though it can still crawl on its belly for greater stealth. Its black parts are replaced by the same purple that Heliolisk has, and its wider mouth has two short white fangs that protrude from the upper jaw, complemented by a forked, snake-like tongue. Purple bands like a coral snake run down its otherwise yellow body, and its solid orange eyes have slitted pupils. Each of its limbs also has three small white claws, with the hands and feet being purple; it can use these claws for climbing as well as attacking, as even though it's the same size as Kalosian Heliolisk (3'3", 46.3 lbs), it's still vulnerable to larger, fiercer predators.

"In ancient times, warmer conditions made Helioptile grow to much larger sizes than the present. This also made them bolder and fiercer."
"Fossils of these ancestral Helioptile suggest that they had a bite that could inject a paralyzing venom. It seems they've since lost this ability."

I've tried multiple times to submit a concept based on the inaccurately frilled, poison-spitting Dilophosaurus from Jurassic Park before, to little success, and while I could've couched it as a Paradox Heliolisk or something, I'd originally wanted it to be its own 'mon. Still, for this slate I decided to bite the bullet after all, but to add some variety I also stirred in traits of monitor lizards which are actually venomous, and especially the largest land lizard in history, Varanus priscus or the megalania. Ancient Heliolisk also owes a lot to the old and ethically questionable practice of sticking props onto regular animals and then using back-projection to make them look bigger and more monstrous; this is best known in the form of "slurpasaurs", lizards subjected to this method in an unconvincing attempt at portraying "dinosaurs".

:sm/lapras:
Typing: Water/Fairy
Abilities: Water Absorb/Fog Shroud* (Hidden Ability: Hydration)
Increases Special Defense in Misty Terrain. (special Grass Pelt clone)

New Moves: Misty Terrain (level-up), Fairy Wind (level-up), Wish (level-up), Disarming Voice (level-up), Dazzling Gleam (level-up), Flip Turn (level-up), Agility (TM), Psybeam (TM), Confuse Ray (TM), Disarming Voice (TM), Chilling Water (TM), Hex (TM), Magical Leaf (TM), Night Shade (TM), Dragon Tail (TM), Snowscape (TM), Psyshock (TM), Bullet Seed (TM), Zen Headbutt (TM), Psychic Fangs (TM), Reflect (TM), Light Screen (TM), Dazzling Gleam (TM), Grass Knot (TM), Imprison (TM), Shadow Ball (TM), Psychic (TM), Play Rough (TM), Amnesia (TM), Calm Mind (TM), Psychic Terrain (TM), Trick Room (TM), Haze (TM), Scald (TM), Grassy Glide (TM), Scale Shot (TM), Misty Explosion (TM)
Removed Moves: Confuse Ray (level-up), Perish Song (level-up); move Mist, Ice Shard, Ice Beam, and Sheer Cold to TMs, tutors, or egg moves as appropriate

Role:
Ancient Lapras is slow, but durable. With a type combination that offers six useful resistances and greater defenses than its Kantonian counterpart, this living legend is built to take a beating for longer than most while keeping its allies out of harm's way. Its new ability Fog Shroud combined with knowing Misty Terrain via level-up allows it to quickly nerf Dragon-type attackers as well as shore up its own special defense to even more absurd levels. As tempting as it is to run Calm Mind and Moonblast/Surf, though, and as useful as that might be to avoid becoming Taunt bait, raw damage output is something that Ancient Lapras simply lacks, and the best it can do if forced to attack is to weaken an opponent as much as it can so when it does eventually have to slip out of sight, whomever takes its place will have an easier time finishing the job. The fact that it learns both Wish and Flip Turn also makes it a halfway decent pivot in a pinch, allowing it to set up a quick heal for the subsequent turn, tank an incoming hit, strike back to some extent, and tag in a more potent attacker who can take advantage of the extra health to go on the offensive more freely.

Flavor:
This is a more obvious Nessie/waterhorse homage than Kantonian Lapras, but in keeping with the spirit of this mod, it is based less on plesiosaurs and more on the related placodonts. Its body is somewhat narrower from side to side, with a more serpentine rear half and a longer tail sporting a tadpole-like tapering fin, but it retains its armor in the form of a two-piece shell akin to Cyamodus or Psephoderma, with patches of moss growing on it; both shells are smooth without any bumps, but rise up to form rounded humps on its back, though the rear one is smaller. It also has a longer, more tapering snout, a lower-hanging neck, and more kelp drooping from its chin and the back of its neck like a beard and a horse's mane, respectively; it also lacks the curly ears of its Kantonian counterpart, and its horn is shorter and more forward upon its snout, similar to this concept art of a prototype design for Lapras itself. It also has claws on the ends of its flippers which are midway between fins and legs, almost terrapin-like, so it can haul itself around on land more easily, though still very slowly; its front flippers have three claws while its smaller back ones have two. While its color scheme is otherwise similar to the Lapras of Kanto, both the blue and yellow parts (or purple and orange in the shiny) are more desaturated with the markings being larger and more scale-like, and the shells are lighter gray and resemble a pair of mossy boulders. Its kelp, moss, and tailfin are dull greenish gray normally, and brick-red like red algae in the shiny.

"An ancient form of Lapras that once lived in a tropical prehistoric sea. Since it lived alongside many fierce predators, it used the hard shells on its back, covered in algae, as camouflage."
"It feeds on seashells and algae gathered from the seabed. This gentle creature dislikes conflict, so if threatened, it blankets its surroundings in a dense fog and sneaks away."

Lapras resembles a real plesiosaur only loosely, with traits of sea turtles and even whales mixed in. I decided to have this version be based not only on some other descriptions of Nessie apart from the plesiosaur-like ones that informed Kantonian Lapras, but also the Placodontidae, Triassic amphibious reptiles which really did have armor plates on their backs, like Lapras but unlike real plesiosaurs. Its algal growths are inspired by the Mary River turtle, and the way they form a sort of mane on the neck is a nod to a nickname sometimes used for lake monsters, the "water horse".

Abilities: Blaze/Grassy Surge/Leaf Guard(H)

Movepool: +Grav Apple, Power Whip, Solar Blade, Trailblaze, Wood Hammer Blast Burn, Ember, Eruption, Fire Blast, Fire Lash, Fire Pledge, Flame Charge, Flamethrower, Flare Blitz, Heat Crash, Heat Wave, Lava Plume, Mystical Fire, Raging Fury (might remove this), Will-O-Wisp

Description: I'm back with burning grass. Jokes aside, this is your basic G Surge mon with fire stab. It can punish Armaldo with ease, hitting it Super-effectively with it's fire stabs and not taking as much damage from its Eq. However this creature isn't as meta-defining, not being able to hit mons such as Omastar and Aerodactyl super-effectively with its Grass Stab and hitting Kabutops and Cradily with neutral damage (although quite powerful with good stab options such as Blooming Charge, Power Whip, Flare Blitz, Raging Fury and Fire Lash). Grassy Surge is the selling point of this guy, because grass hehe. You can try some Blaze techs (although a bit high risk-ok reward) and Leaf Guard is here because flavor.

Flavor: Meganium with a volcano on it's back and carbonized petals, idk (it's based on Vulcanodon, one of the oledst Sauropod ever ☝).

Name: Meganium-Sonic
Original Pokémon: Meganium
Typing: Grass / Electric
Abilities: Punk Rock / Soundproof
Stats: 109 / 74 / 81 / 108 / 111 / 42

New Moves: +Decibloom, Overdrive, Boomburst, Calm Mind, Sonic Boom, Hyper Voice, Tail Whip (lol), Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Volt Switch, Ion Deluge, Magnetic Flux, Magnet Rise
80 BP - Grass-type - Special - 100% accuracy - 16PP - Protect, Mirror, Sound (goes through Substitute)
30% chance to raise the user's SpA by one stage.

Removed Moves: -Synthesis, Dragon Tail, Toxic, Aromatherapy

Role: Special wallbreaker. It's basically bulky Toxtricity, with crazy high BP moves in exchange for low Speed and attacking stats. Also has Volt Switch for you slow pivot gamers out there.
Flavor: Based on the ancient Diplodocidae group of sauropods, which would have been able to crack their tails like a whip in order to create sonic booms in excess of 200 decibels (for context, this is loud enough to burst someone's lungs). Appearance is like Meganium, but more punk-esque. Just for the flavor.

Role: Koff absorber since the meta currently has zero (0) Dark resists. Also adds a very solid Aero switchin, solving that problem before it becomes one.
