Overview
########

Pelipper sports a decent defensive typing that gives it a plethora of resistances which is backed up with good defensive stats. It also has access to reliable recovery in Roost, as well as Defog, which allows it to remove entry hazards from both sides of the battlefield. It even has U-turn, which allows it to escape dangerous threats and maintain momentum. However, Pelipper has a 4x weakness to Electric-type moves and is also weak to Stealth Rock, which gives it a somewhat hard time using Defog effectively. In addition, its offenses are mediocre, and it is quite slow.

Defensive
########
name: Defensive
move 1: Scald
move 2: Roost
move 3: Defog
move 4: U-turn / Air Slash
ability: Keen Eye
item: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Scald serves as the primary STAB attack, and it's very good on Pelipper because the burn rate gives physical attackers a harder time taking it down. Roost provides reliable recovery, and lets Pelipper heal off damage it might have taken from Stealth Rock or status. Defog was buffed in XY and now removes entry hazards from both sides of the field, so it is a great move on a defensive Pokemon such as Pelipper. The last move is a toss-up. U-turn is used to gain momentum and escape dangerous threats, and should be used on more balanced teams. However, Air Slash can also be used as a secondary STAB attack to hit Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Roselia that try to switch into Scald, and should be used on more defensive teams for the utility that it provides.

Set Details
========

The given EVs with a Bold nature maximizes Pelipper's physical bulk, and gives it a Stealth Rock number for more switch-ins. Leftovers is used to provide some passive recovery. Keen Eye is the only ability that should be used, because Rain Dish is incompatible with Defog.

Usage Tips
========

Use Roost sparingly, as against stall-based teams, it will be very important. Switch into Pokemon that Pelipper can check or counter, such as Escavalier and Poliwrath, and proceed to use Defog if you need entry hazards removed. In addition, use Scald often for its burn chance, which can help Pelipper remove hazards more easily and cushion physical attacks for its teammates, or use U-turn to keep momentum.

Team Options
========

Defensive Grass-types such as Tangrowth, Roselia, and Amoonguss have excellent synergy with Pelipper, and can take on Electric-type attacks aimed at Pelipper, while Pelipper can switch into Bug- and Fire-type attacks aimed at them, as well as taking on most Ice-type attacks. Pokemon who appreciate entry hazard removal, such as Delphox and Abomasnow, make good partners. Pelipper really appreciates cleric support from Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Aromatisse as it has no way of removing status and is worn down quickly by it.

Other Options
########

An offensive set with Hydro Pump and Hurricane can be used, but due to Pelipper's average Special Attack, it won't do much, and is outclassed by other Water-types such as Clawitzer, Slowking, and Sharpedo. Rain Dance can also be used, but it is not very useful. The ability Rain Dish can be used as well, but weather is uncommon, and it is incompatible with Defog, which is one of the only reasons you should use it over another Water-type Pokemon. Tailwind is another interesting choice, and can be used to increase the Speed of its team. Lastly, Knock Off can be used, but it is extremely weak.

Checks & Counters
########

**Electric-types** Electric-types such as Rotom-C, Jolteon, and Magneton can trouble Pelipper because of its 4x weakness to Electric-type moves, and canmaintain momentum with Volt Switch while forcing Pelipper out.

**Rock-types** Rock-types such as Tyrantrum and Rhyperior can check Pelipper and force it out with their strong STAB attacks, but fear the burn from Scald.

**Status** Status such as burn and poison wear Pelipper down quickly.

I know this is a WIP, but I feel like U-Turn definitely needs more of a mention on the set.
imo, it's more useful than Air Slash, as Pelipper isn't really beating the things that it hits with it anyway.

Ok, so I really feel U-turn needs to be the primary slash in the 4th slot. A defensive Pokemon that can gain some momentum is never a bad thing. Knock Off is just bad on Pelipper imo. Base 50 Attack is terrible and it doesn't get STAB on it. Should be OO imo. Anyway, on to the rest of the stuff.

[Overview]

- Add U-turn to pros. Never bad on a defensive Pokemon with less-than-average offensive presence

[Defensive]

- Move 4 HP EVs over to SpD for Stealth Rock damage
- Replace Ferroseed with the more prominent (and viable) Tangrowth

[Other Options]

- Mantine doesn't outclass Pelipper with Rain Dish as Mantine doesn't have that ability. Do note it's illegal with Defog though

Make these changes, and consider this one:

QC Approved 1/3 Sapphire. Good work as always.

Banned deucer.
u-turn is mediocre for pelipper because pelipper's defensive set has a main niche for defensive teams where it can randomly counter things like sub bu gallade with air slash and escalavier most of the time with defog. u-turn though is a bad move generally for defensive teams since it is more of an illusory move; it never actually deals with a problem like when you u-turn away from a kyurem it doesn't die but you do gain some time to deal with it by sending in for example a scarfemboar or something similarly suited to kill it. stall teams do not have that benefit because they can rarely outright threaten to kill a pokemon so instead of u-turning for instance you should be throwing out scalds for burns and Defog for support or Air Slash to become a better niche counter and increase utility. you instead should be having for instance a specially defensive registeel to deal with most kyurems.

anyways I know kyurem has been banned for a while it is just an example why I personally do not think u-Turn is a strong option on pelipper.

I think U-turn is fine; while I haven't really used Pelipper much, I think it's ok to have as the first slash just because it allows Pelipper to fit on teams more easily. Air Slash does help vs certain things, but a lot of the things that it helps deal with (Hitmonlee, Virizion, etc) are stuff that Pelipper is a really shaky answer to; like, +2 Virizion has a good chance to OHKO Pelipper after rocks, and since Pelipper is going to be your defogger, chances are rocks will be up when you bring Pelipper in. That being said, it is true that it does help increase Pelipper's utility on stallish teams, so as long as the writer makes sure to mention that you use U-turn on more balanced teams, and Air Slash on stallish ones, I think it should be fine.

Remove Knock Off from usage tips and replace with gain momentum from U-turn (Knock off is OO now). In C&C mention that Rhyperior and Tyrantrum don't like to switch in because they both fear scald.

Do this and it looks good
