Project Pokemon Matchmaking v2 [Closed]

Gallade @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch / Knock Off
- Zen Headbutt

Not exactly the best Pokemon in the metagame due to Mega Lopunny, but a scary threat for sure once it gets going! Mega Gallade and Bisharp break down each others checks really well, and, if you're going to use Gallade at all, this is the way to do it. Mega Gallade appreciates Bisharp's ability to handle Fairy-types, mainly Clefable, and Latias and Latios. In return, Gallade is able to outspeed Keldeo and Heatran and OHKO them with Zen Headbutt and Close Combat, respectively. Gallade also is able to defeat Mega Lopunny without too much fear.

also pls dont use shadow sneak its bad

Coba Berry Keldeo

Keldeo @ Coba Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

Here we have AoA Keldeo which is able to:
(a) OHKO or, at least, 2HKO Dark/Steel types types which checks Bisharp;
(b) deal with most Fighting users threatening them with STAB Scald which isn't a move you should switch-in carelessly.
Icy Wind helps via the Spe control and softens switch-ins.

Coba Berry helps to tank a Flying move to retaliate back with a Water move i.e. vs Talonflame which stops unboosted Bisharp in its tracks.

Pretty basic set/idea.

In return, Bisharp wears down Psychic types (i.e. Lati@s, Slowbro, Cresselia, and Celebi) with its STAB even better than before thanks to the Icy Wind support.

Seriously, Keldeo is such a great partner from many pokemon.

Week 44 - Sand Rush Excadrill
excadrill.gif

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

Note: Pokemon with the Sand Stream ability cannot be nominated.

charizard-mega-y.png

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Char-Y pressures many of the Pokemon Exca has a hard time with. Among these include Skarm, Lando-T, Hippo, Gliscor, Rotom-W, Tangrowth, and so on. These are all typically seen on balanced teams, and without SD, Exca often finds itself having a hard time vs. these archetypes. Char-Y helps with this issue by pressuring balanced teams nicely. In return, Exca is able to threaten the offensive builds Char-Y can sometimes struggle with. Although Exca has to be careful switching into them, it's able to pressure several Pokemon Char-Y dislikes to encounter, such as Mega Altaria, Mega Diancie, Latios, and CS Tar. Moreover, spin allows for the removal of SR, which Char-Y heavily appreciates. Together, they are able to place immense pressure on the majority of teams, making them good partners overall.

There are a few other things worth mentioning about Char-Y. Tar will very likely be on any team with Exca. This is noteworthy because Char-Y directly benefits from the Pursuit support Tar provides to eliminate threats like Latios. Exca and Tar are both weak to ground, and Char-Y's immunity helps makes up for this, even if slightly. Although having Drought alongside sand with Exca may seem counterproductive, this usually isn't the case and even gives sand another tool against rain teams. That's a minor detail, yet a useful one for the sand builds having a hard time fitting in more than a Ferro to check rain.

I'll reserve the guardian of the Ilex Forest.

251.png

Reality In Motion (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 84 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Baton Pass
- Healing Wish

Support Celebi is a perfect partner for Excadrill as it easily takes out the bulky Water types that Excadrill struggles against, including Rotom-W and (Mega) Slowbro with its STAB Giga Drain. Celebi also helps out Excadrill by weakening or eliminating bulky Ground types that Excadrill also struggles against, including Garchomp, PhysDef Gliscor, and most notably Hippowdon. Lastly, Celebi provides Healing Wish support as Excadrill will get quickly worn down by Life Orb, Rocky Helmet, Rough Skin, Iron Barbs, and other forms of recoil & Healing Wish can give Excadrill second life, allowing it to break through several more Pokemon.

Terrakion @ Choice Band
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Rock Slide
- Quick Attack

cb Terrakion is a great partner for exca because they can overload stuff like Hippo, Slowbro, Lando-T, Suicune and Skarm. Terak also can take on fat builds and Exca can take on Offense which Terak doesn't appreciate.
252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 168-198 (42.6 - 50.2%) -- 39.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (after a eq from exca a safe 2hko

-1 252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Landorus-T: 127-150 (33.2 - 39.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery can only swich-in once and then exca has a funny time

252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 166-196 (49.7 - 58.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery same thing with skarm

252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 192-226 (47.5 - 55.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Hippowdon: 204-241 (48.5 - 57.3%) -- 94.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery well terak is a monster

Things like Keldeo are pretty hard to deal with but you have 3. more slots to cover that weakness
I'm a pretty bad writter but I hoped you enjoyed!

Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power Fire
- Giga Drain / Glare

Excadrill has a lot of issues breaking past Hippowdon, Manaphy, Garchomp, Rotom-W, Slowbro, Gliscor, Azumarill, and Suicune. Serperior is able to blow all of these Pokemon away once it gets to +2, sometimes even at neutral, which isn't a difficult task to do, thanks to Serperior's natural advantages over most of these Pokemon.
In return, Excadrill is able to pressure some of Serperior's checks, mainly the likes of Tornadus-T, Mega Manectric, Talonflame, Mega Altaria, and Weavile, while under Sandstorm. Being able to blow through a lot of Serperior's offensive checks is also a massive help.

Breloom @ Lansat Berry
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Natural Gift
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Swords Dance

Breloom can defeat Rotom-W, Hippowdon, Gliscor and Azumarill which checks Excadrill. With Lansat Berry, Breloom also acts as an effective lure for foes like Chesnaught, Mega Venusaur and Tangrowth, OHKOing them after a Swords Dance boost. In return , Excadrill runs through Lati@s, Weavile and Torn-T while also checking Talonflame in Sand. Excadrill should run SD over Rapid Spin so that it pressures fat Steels better.

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 20 Atk / 252 SpA / 236 Spe
Mild Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
- Roost

Kyurem-B is able to take care of things which Excadrill will struggle vs such as Hippo, TankChomp, Defensive Lando, Rotom and almost any other bulky mon which could wall Excadrill. Excadrill in return is able to keep some fairies in check for Kyurem.

Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 29 HP / 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe (apologies if I've misremembered HP Fire's dropped IVs)
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Sludge Bomb

For the most part, sun is a dead archetype. Full sun is virtually nonexistent, but Zard-Y+Venu teams are often paired with sand due to the latter's ability to both counteract the archetype's inherent sand weakness and to use the deceptively good synergy to completely overwhelm offensive teams. In addition, spin driller is only good on these archetypes imo due to how pressed they are for hazard removal. Excadrill acts as an offensive answer to Heatran and other Fire-types as well as the Latis wheras Venusaur lures out Skarmory and poison-neutral grasses with HP Fire and takes out fat waters for Excadrill.

Week 45 - Stallbreaker Heatran

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic

rotom-wash.gif

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Since the set provided isn't running Solar Beam to lure Pokemon like Slowbro and opposing Rotom-W, it is harder to find something that benefits as much from Heatran's trapping potential. So, focusing on covering its weaknesses is a good way to go, and Rotom-W does this well. What tends to come in on Rotom-W? Ferro, Serp, Mega Venu, Clef, Latios, and Chansey are several examples. These are all things Heatran is able to take advantage of after being brought in for free by Rotom-W's Volt Switch. Being brought in unharmed is an important point here because the given Heatran is running 0 bulk. As such, it is much easier to wear down than bulkier variants and thus prefers to avoid taking as much damage as possible instead of, say, directly switching into threats like Latios.

The above aside, these two cover a fair amount of threats for each other. For example, Rotom-W handles a good portion of the water and ground types Heatran is threatened by, such as Lando-T, Exca, Azu, Starmie, and a few others. In exchange, Heatran lends Rotom-W a hand by dealing with the previously mentioned grass types in addition to Pokemon like Clef. Lastly, Rotom-W doubles up as a check to big threats like Talon and bulky variants of Mega Sciz. The extra security against such big threats is definitely appreciated, especially with Heatran running no bulk as stated earlier. All things considered, Heatran and Rotom-W have good defensive synergy and although they are a standard pair, that doesn't change their effectiveness together.

alakazam-mega.gif

Alakazam @ Alakazite
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Encore

Mega Alakazam is a nice partner for Heatran as it can troll stat-uppers that set up on Heatran such as Manaphy and Clefable by locking them into Tail Glow and Calm Mind respectively. It is also able to put the hurt on Rotom-W, Keldeo, Starmie and Mega Lopunny which Heatran hates. In return, Heatran is able to check Pokemon which walls Mega Alakazam such as Mega Sableye, Mega Scizor and Skarmory. Heatran can opt to run Stone Edge to better deal with Talonflame. As a bonus, Trace allows Mega Alakazam to outrun weather sweepers like Excadrill and Kingdra in their own weather, a trait which Heatran appreciates.

598.gif

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 68 Def / 192 SpD
Impish / Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave / Gyro Ball / Protect

Ferrotran has pretty good synergy in that they cover a few weaknesses for each other. In exchange for Flash Fire support, Ferrothorn takes care of grounds and waters for Heatran. In addition, it can stack hazards rather efficiently, which can really pressure the opp in conjunction with Leech Seed, Magma Storm and Toxic damage.

Gallade @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Shadow Sneak

Hello, first post here since i'm giving up on old gen and starting with new one! From my experience, what I see is that StallBrekaer Heatran is to provide the elimination of some inglorious Clefable, L@tis and to press on water -mon such as Starmie or Slowbro with residual dmgs (hello Toxic+Magma Storm!) and this means that it could be really good for some Physical mon which find for himself a lil difficult to be used in OU tier: M-Gallade. It surely gains a big help from Heatran, taking advantage from Water/Fairy lureing and being able to setup on them while they are recovering (esp: starmie and slowbro). That's what I see as my first impact in OU tier, maybe I'm totally wrong but I'm trying so it's okay I suppose!

latias.gif

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Healing Wish

Heatran is suspectible to strong stab water, fighting, ground attacks. It needs to have an answer for these. Latias is a great teammate for heatran, as it checks keldeo and zard-y well. Also, heatran loves healing wish support from latias, as it may easily be worn down.

serperior.gif

Serperior @ Life Orb
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Ground
- Glare

I've decided to go for Serperior, because it helps deal with some threats on stall which Heatran can't handle at all/reliably, such as Gastrodon and Quagsire. Glare also helps against offense and can lure stuff annoying stuff like Tornadus-T and Gengar which are also annoying to Heatran. I've listed both HP Ground and HP Fire as an option, although if the team is specifically weak to Heatran, HP Ground is a useful lure that can also ease pressure off Serperior.

Week 46 - Swords Dance Mega Heracross

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

holy (Thundurus) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Focus Blast

Thundurus is, hands down, one of the single best offensive partners to Mega Heracross for sure, if not the best. By virtue of its Electric-typing, it is able to check Flying-types, especially the likes of Talonflame and Mega Pinsir, who can normally revenge kill Heracross with ease, and can easily defeat Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Gliscor, and bulky Water-types such as Azumarill, Suicune, and Manaphy, with Hidden Power Ice and Thunderbolt, respectively. Thanks to its ability, Prankster, and Thunder Wave, it can cripple faster threats such as Keldeo, Latios, Mega Alakazam, and Mega Medicham, allowing Heracross to outspeed normal checks.

My Everything (Keldeo) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

Choice Specs Keldeo is one of the top partners to Swords Dance Mega Heracross as it can weaken or flat out eliminate some of Mega Heracross's best checks and counters and vice-versa. Keldeo can easily remove powerful Ground types such as Gliscor and Landorus-T, along with PhysDef Unaware Clefable, and both Charizard formes, as all are either OHKO'd or 2HKO'd by Hydro Pump. On the other side, Mega Heracross has no problem by taking out Slowbro with Pin Missile while also doing heavy damage to a multitude of bulky Water types, most notably Alomomola, along with repeated use of Pin Missle, or can set up on it, pending no Scald burns. Grass types such as Celebi, Mega Venusaur, and Tangrowth are all swiftly eliminated by STAB Pin Missle as well.

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Heart Stamp
- Healing Wish

Although SD Mega Hera excels as a breaker, its lackluster speed leaves it vulnerable to many faster offensive threats. Examples include Latios, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Diancie, Mega Zam, Jolly Mega Altaria, and several others. Because of this, Mega Hera can often find itself struggling against more offensive playstyles. This is where Jira comes in, being able to check these Pokemon nicely thanks to Choice Scarf and its good set of resistances. Moreover, Jira provides Mega Hera with Healing Wish support. This gives it a second chance to break things apart after getting worn down or crippled by status, which is particularly useful against the defensive playstyles Mega Hera thrives against. Lastly, U-turn is always nice to bring Mega Hera in for free against common Jira switch ins like Ferro and Hippo, who can both be taken advantage of easily by the bug.

How does Jira benefit from Mega Hera as a partner? As said earlier, SD Mega Hera is a great wall breaker capable of breaking down the likes of Skarm, Hippo, Lando-T, and Gliscor. Because all of these Pokemon are things Jira struggles a great deal with, it appreciates them being weakened or eliminated completely. Mega Hera does a nice job doing this, while threatening a number of other defensive Pokemon that give the steel star a hard time, such as Ferro, Rotom-W and Slowbro. Mega Hera's ability to handle Bisharp is also appreciated, as it's one of the biggest offensive threats to Jira.

In sum, Jira helps make up for Mega Hera's low speed and covers its weakness to a host of offensive threats, all while providing Healing Wish support. In return, Mega Hera breaks several of the defensive threats Jira struggles with, which gives it an easier time cleaning late game. The ability these two have to cover the playstyles the other struggles with makes them a relatively good pair.

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Ice Punch / Superpower

Scarf Ttar helps Heracross to handle Mega Manectric, Psychic-types (Lati@s, Starmie) , most physically attacking Flying-types (Mega Pinsir, Talonflame) and Fire-types (Zards, Volca). In return, Mega Heracross helps to break physical walls like Hippowdon, Lando-T and Skarmory which makes Tyranitar helpless. Just find a Torn-T and Mega Alakazam check.
