[Pre-bank OU] The Beginner's Team

Hello everyone ! I've been playing a lot on the ladder with this team lately, and it's not doing too bad but I feel that it can still be improved. (by the way, sorry if I make English mistakes, as it's not my native language ^^)

Here's the team :

Crobat @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 120 HP / 136 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Defog
- Taunt
- U-turn

This guy serves as my lead most of the time, as it can prevent the opponent from setting up SR, and scout with U-turn while doing good damage to pokemon like Greninja and Tyranitar.
It's also my main answer to Gliscor, as it is immune to everything it can throw at Crobat except the rare Ice fang, and can hit back through substitute with Infiltrator Brave Bird.

Azumarill @ Mystic Water
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough

Belly Drum Azumarill is really good, and usually makes the opponent switch in his Ferrothorn which often creates an opportunity for Aegislash to come in. I can usually find the time to set-up Belly Drum, but even when I don't, STAB Waterfall and Play Rough still hit hard, especially on predicted switches. However, I still feel that the team doesn't need Azumarill that much, and it acts a little more as a bonus for it.

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SAtk
Sassy Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Tail

I'm really fond of Assault Vest Goodra. It can switch in on pretty much everything : status-inducing Grass moves, Leech seed, and nearly every single special attack. It's my number one switch in to Greninja, Gengar and all kinds of special attackers that can be sent out against Charizard and Azumarill. Moreover, it isn't easy to set up on, thanks to its high special attack and access to Dragon Tail, so it synergizes pretty well with the bulky offense orientation of the team.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Power whip (Toxic)

He really helps me out by countering/checking so many threats such as Kangaskhan who can threaten the rest of my team with its powerful Dark/Normal attacks but gets wrecked by Iron barbs when facing Ferrothorn. Leech seed also enables me to get some recovery for teammates like Goodra who loses if it repeatedly switches in, even on resisted moves. I'm not too sure about Toxic, but as I don't have any real non-boosting wallbreaker, I chose to use it here.
I still think that Ferrothorn doesn't have that much synergy with the rest of the team, and makes me lose some offensive presence and momentum as it can't always cripple or hit back something that switches into it.
(I noticed recently that sub Gyarados could hurt the team pretty bad, so I switched Toxic for Power whip, testing it now)

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw

The main sweeper of the team, he hits really hard after only one Dragon Dance, so if it sets up after the opponent's team has been weakened, it can often pull off a full sweep. I like using Earthquake for weakened Azumarill, but mainly for Aegislash, as Charizard is my best answer to it.

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- King's Shield
- Shadow Sneak
- Swords Dance
- Sacred Sword

Aegislash is cool. It can switch in on many things quite safely, and puts some offensive pressure once it's here. I use Weakness Policy so that it can win more easily against other Aegislashes, as they can cause trouble to the team if Charizard is weakened or KO.

The pokemon that give me the most trouble are arguably Talonflame and Quagsire, as I have no reliable check to the former and as the latter can stop my 3 set up sweepers, but Crobat can handle him so he might not be that much of a problem. I may need a wallbreaker, or something that can hit hard without setting up (Choice Band on Azumarill, maybe ?). What do you guys think ? Any suggestions ? :)

(edit : Before posting, it looked like I had at least 3 lines of information on each pokemon, but once posted it turned out to be less, do I need to edit the description and add more ?)

Hello great team, it is very solid, and looks like a lot of fun to play.

Weakness policy is inferior to leftovers/lifeorb/air balloon i would recommend switching it with one of those. On paper it sounds very useful, but i can say from experience it is too gimmicky and most of the time it's as if your aegislash is playing with no item.

Otherwise im looking at your team and no big weaknesses stand out to me. Hazard wise I feel stealth rocks can cause a bit of an issue for you if they have their hazard setter out vs something that isn't crobat, and your charizard will take half his health if he has not yet transformed, and crobat takes 25%. I suppose you can play around this if you predict well.

Anyways good luck and happy stomping :]

Thanks a lot for your answer :)

Weakness policy is mainly for getting some more boosts in the case of an Aegislash vs Aegislash scenario, so it's true that I'm wasting the moveslot for most other match-ups by using it. I just found that without it, the team was a little too weak to Aegislash, and sometimes got swept by it (especially if Charizard is weakened). So I'll probably end up replacing it with one of the items you mentioned if I make other changes to my team to include better checks to Aegi.

But my biggest concern with this team is really Talonflame. Brave Bird does huge damage to everything except Aegislash and Ferrothorn, and these two get beaten by Flare Blitz =/ I'd really need something like Rotom-W or a rock type to take care of this weakness, but I couldn't figure out how to replace one of my pokemon without throwing out the balance of the team.

Stealth rocks can become a problem, especially with Crobat not having roost and thus not being able to switch in repeatedly with them on the field. But as you said, it can be overcome with some prediction. :)

Hello.

Pretty solid team you have there,I like that you use Mega Charizard X which is kind of underrated so props to you on that. But I see a couple of main issues.I see that you team is kind of weak to the likes of Talonflame specially the Acroflame set so to help remedy that I recommend you replace Azumarill with Rotom-Wash so you have a good check to Talonflame and a Ground inmunity which also can provide free switch-ins into Earthquakes or any ground type move. And Belly Drum Azumarill is a bit gimmicky to use.

On Ferrothorn I recommend you use Thunder Wave over Toxic since Ferrothorn prefers slowing down opponents over Poisoning them, also run a EV Spead of 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef you do lose a bit of Physical bulk but you can tank Special hits a bit better than you used to with this spread. And keep the relaxed nature so you have a solid total of 354 Def after EV's.

On Goodra I recommend you put Focus Blast and Dragon Pulse over Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor since Goodra normally prefers having Dragon Pulse when it runs Assault Vest and I think Dragon Tail with Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse is redundant, give it the spread of 252 SAtk / 200 SDef / 52 HP so you can use the Assault Vest to increase your Special Bulk along with the EV spread. And be sure to give it 0 Atk IV's so confusion and Foul Play don't screw your Goodra over.

On Charizard I suggest you make it a Jolly Nature you won't hit as hard but you will be able to outrun a lot of stuff at +1 mainly DD Mence and Mega Kangaskhan.

Sets:
Rotom-Wash @ Chesto Berry/Leftovers
Ability:Levitate
EV's 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
IV's: 0 Atk
Calm Nature
-Will-O-Wisp
-Rest/Pain Split
-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump

Hope my suggestions were helpful or at least thought-provoking.

It was an honor rating your team! :D
