Other PU Team - My first one x_x

'ello.
Most of the time I hang around the Roleplaying area of Pokemon Showdown- ye might not see me much on anything else. At all. During breaks in the RP I enjoy going on Random Battles, and I've always wanted to make a team, but I'm not experienced at all in the Competitive side of Pokemon. I tried out a PU team - Partially Used - and it was decent in the battles- I always managed to faint at least half the other pokemon, but I wasn't winning much at all- So I came here! Please help me! :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spr_5b_105.png

Marowak @ Thick Club
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Double-Edge
- Earthquake
- Power-Up Punch
- Swords Dance

I chose Marowak as it seems like a pretty good Physical Sweeper, at least for the PU tier. His item, Thick Club, doubles his attack, which is amazing. I chose the moves as I feel he can easily fell most enemies- Swords Dance is +2 attack, which makes him even more powerful. His Rock Head ability cancels out the recoil from Double-Edge, and Power-Up Punch raises his attack even more. EQ is just a typical move for a Ground type- Pokemon. High power, and no negatives.

Luxray @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spark
- Crunch
- Iron Tail
- Facade

I chose Luxray as my second pokemon, because it is 1. my most loved pokemon and 2. a pretty powerful one too as far as I know. It's ability and item go together- The burn boosting Luxray's attack to 1.5x. His Jolly nature boosts his speed. He has spark- a decent physical electric move, and crunch, to defend against ghost and psychic. I chose Iron Tail as a defense against Rock types and Fairy types, and Facade's attack is doubled due to the burn which makes it quite effective against any other types.

219.png

Magcargo @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpD
- Inferno
- Ancient Power
- Iron Defense
- Curse

My third pokemon is Magcargo- A decently bulky fire/rock type. I gave it leftovers, because I had no idea what other item to put on it haha. It's first move, Inferno, is quite inaccurate but very effective if it hits. Ancient Power is a decent move, with a 10% chance to boost all stats, and I gave it Iron Defense to make it even more Bulky. Curse is Attack +1 and Defense +1, but speed down. Not my best choice, but I needed a fire type.

018.png

Pidgeot-Mega @ Pigeonite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- Uproar
- Roost

This is Pidgeot, my Mega for this team. A pretty powerful pokemon, I must say. It's ability No Guard compliments it's moveset, with low-accuracy moves like Hurricane and Steel Wing. Hurricane is very strong- STAB and a 30% chance to confuse with a high attack power. Steel Wing is for waving off those pesky Rock types, although it's not very powerful due to Mega Pidgeot being a Special attacker. Roost is simple- For restoring health.

389.png

Torterra @ Leftovers
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Outrage

This is mostly a pretty random pick. . . I went through the list and basically said YOLO. Leftovers is a basic fallback if you have no other items. It's mostly a Bulky Physical sweeper, with strong physical moves + adamant nature. Seed Bomb, Earthquake, Crunch, Outrage. Just a bunch of random good-ish moves I put together. . . Feedback please! Haha.

Vanilluxe @ Never-Melt Ice
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Hail
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Water Pulse

So this is my last pokemon I chose- Vanilluxe. I gave it Never-Melt Ice to boost it's 2 ice type moves, and Hail for it's Ice Body ability and also to deal some buffet against enemies. Blizzard will be the main attack it'll use- against water types, Freeze Dry, and Water Pulse for Fire, Ground and Rock types. A pretty decent pokemon in my opinion,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, that's it! I hope you guys can leave some feed back on this, I realize it's probably the worst you've ever seen, but it's the thought that counts, right? Thanks for reading :)

I'm not trying to say you are bad,but let me give you some advice. If you are making a team look at ALL the moves learned by the pokemon. For example, your luxray has spark, when it should have wild charge because wild charge has 90 power and 100% accuracy with recoil. That is obviously much better than spark. Also look at coverage, torterra doesn't need outrage because the only thing outrage hit's super effectively is dragon types,I would replace that move with either iron head or stone edge, but preferably iron head because fairies like granbull. That's all that is glaringly bad about your team. Keep playing pokemon though, judging by this team you aren't terrible, but much practice is may be needed.

Thank you for the feedback! ATM I am unable to reach a computer to fix it, but I definitely will as soon as I can! Thanks again :)

Hi LokiDaSwag like Nintega said, you have some really sub optimal sets for your team that you have, on top of this ORAS is not released therefore Mega Pidgeot is not released. To start off on this rate I'm just going to give you optimal sets and spreads and then a better M-Pidgeot set. I also recommend putting an importable at the bottom of all of your RMTs.
Marowak @ Thick Club
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bonemerang
- Double-Edge
- Substitute / Stealth Rock
- Knock Off

Luxray @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Facade
- Wild Charge
- Superpower
- Quick Attack

Magcargo @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Recover
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power

Pidgeot @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- U-turn
- Roost

Torterra @ Choice Band
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Wood Hammer
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Vanilluxe @ Life Orb
Ability: Weak Armor
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Autotomize

Marowak: Marowak should focus on outspeeding threats and trying to KO them as quickly as possible, Substitute is to ease prediction while Bonemerang, Double-Edge, and Knock Off provide the best coverage.

Luxray: Luxray's Gut's set should mostly use Facade as it is actually stronger against nuetral threats than Wild Charge, Wild Charge should only be used where Facade does less find out by calcing.

Magcargo: Magcargo is a pretty terrible Pokemon in PU so I just gave it a standard defensive set, even though it had a terrible defensive typing. It should focus on burning physical attackers and setting up Stealth Rock.

Pidgeot: Pidgeot is easily walled by Rock-types and as such needs to be able to switch into something that can easily counter them which is where U-turn comes in. Roost is for recovering HP while Hurricane and Heat Wave provide good coverage.

Torterra: Torterra is a powerful force in the PU metagame and can utilize that power with a Choice Band (seeing as you already have a Stealth Rock Pokemon) Bullet Seed is for Sturdy (or Focus Sashed) leads like Golem, EQ is for anything that resists Wood Hammer, and Stone Edge is to nail any flying types.

Vanilluxe: Vanilluxe is quite a weak special sweeper but under the right conditions it can sweep, it needs Life Orb for power, automize to go fast, and I gave it a custom spread that can probably be tweaked because it gets +2 speed from Automize. Ice Beam and Freeze-dry actually provide really good coverage while HP Ground is to hit anything that resists it namely Steel-types.

Mega Pidgeot:
Pidgeot @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- U-turn
- Roost

M-Pidgeot: Mega Pidgeot should focus on doing the exact same thing that it tries to do without its mega, pivoting out of things it can't beat and having 100% accurate hurricane and heat wave.

Now to suggest things that you should switch out, to start off with you should have Gourgeist-Small > Macargo as macargo is a terrible defensive Pokemon and litterally does nothing for your team. Gourgeist-S can fill the same roll except better while providing much more team support. You then need to put Stealth Rock on Marowak, as in the importable I listed sub first but seeing as I removed your Stealth Rock Pokemon you sort of need one. Lastly I am going to suggest switching out and having Ninetales > Vanilluxe as with Magcargo out of the way your team is opened up to having a pretty big fire weakness. Ninetales is able to check the majority of Fire-types beat TRC and is a fantastic special sweeper (much more so than Vanilluxe).

711.gif

Gourgeist-Small @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 152 HP / 104 Def / 252 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute
- Seed Bomb

038.gif

Ninetales @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Flamethrower
- Psyshock
- Energy Ball

I hope my suggestions helped, and I would also suggest getting a mentor. Unfortunately I don't think there is a dedicated PU mentor.

Wow. Thank you so much! xD This is so awesome, I'll make sure to follow all of your steps as soon as I get access to a computer.

Whats the point in running Gourgeist-Small? Not like it's sizes are in different tiers. Just run Gourgeist-Super, not like speed really matters with gourgeist. It's supposed to be a wall, not a sweeper, or one to set up fast...

Actually the speed is incredibly important, the whole point of Gourgeist-small is to outspeed fast threats and burn them before they can attack, it wants the speed to set up substitutes before the opponent can status it. It focuses on leech seed stalling the opponent and the spread i provided is customized to do that in the best way possible. Speed can be much more important that bulk, and faster support Pokemon are much better than slower ones in most cases.

Hm, okay then. I guess that makes a good amount of more sense. I usually run gourgeist as a wall, but never thought of using small gourgeist. I'll try that in the future. Thanks for explaining.

No problem, fyi the only two gourgeist forms worth running are small and XL
