Return of the Red Assassin

Hey everyone! This is fuckyoo im asian here with my first RMT! This is a team that I created around Mega-Scizor, which is a grossly underrated threat in ORAS OU. Mega-Scizor has an incredible base stat distribution, allowing it to run all kinds of sets, whether it be a defensive wall or a bulky sweeper. It has sky-high attack, and very decent 70|140|100 defenses, allowing it to take some punishment from the enemy, and retaliate with monstrous force, or bide its time with roost. There are few pokemon that Mega-Scizor has trouble dealing with, but of those few, it is up to the teammates to dispatch them and allow for a Mega-Scizor sweep. Let's take a look into just what makes this team click.
Team Building Process
I wanted to build the team around scizor. With the advent of all the new megas, the focus of the metagame has shifted to newer mega pokemon, such as Mega Sableye, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Metagross. Because of this, Mega-Scizor has been pushed out of the spotlight, and no longer has the attention it deserves. Mega-Scizor is an incredibly powerful monster that holds its own against OU's biggest threats, and comes out on top.

Mega-Scizor's greatest nemesis is fire and steel types; and even worse, both on the same pokemon (I'm looking at you, Heatran). If Mega-Scizor is not running Superpower (which the Mega-Scizor in this RMT isn't), then it relies heavily on its teammates to pick off those threats. Mamoswine appealed to me as an excellent check to Heatran, as well as an excellent addition to the team in general to threaten Landorus-T, Hippowdon, Lead Breloom, and all sorts of dragons. This mamoswine functions as a lead rocker, since it is great at scaring off potential leads such as the aforementioned Lead Breloom as well as SR Heatran.

The Mega-Scizor featured in this RMT is hyper offensive (SD + 3 attacks); a variant that focuses on only setting up and sweeping without the luxury of roost. That means that it gets weakened over time if it is brought out, and is vulnerable to status. I chose Latias as a team member with Healing Wish to give Mega-Scizor a second chance if necessarily. Latias is also a good check to Keldeo for sponging hits.

Ah, the infamous Talonflame. This is a talonflame used to pick off any pokemon clinging onto life, as well as to initiate a sweep of its own, if the circumstances are right. This Talonflame provides excellent support to the team by providing a way to check Mega-Lopunny as well as Mega-Sableye, both extremely dangerous to Mega-Scizor.

Breloom is another underestimated threat; far too few people see it for the monster this little mushroom can be. With the gift of Technician, Mach Punch is powered up, like Bullet Punch with Scizor, and every single hit of Bullet Seed receives the technician boost! This amounts to unimaginable amounts of damage after factoring in Technician, Stab, Life Orb, and Breloom's naturally high attack, all with a Swords Dance tucked under its belt, if the conditions are right.

Last but not least, we have the
A Closer Look

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 232 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance
The star of the show; Mega-Scizor. The goal is to weaken the enemy pokemon to the point where Mega-Scizor can set up a Swords Dance, and rely on Bullet Punch to pick off faster threats and its coverage moves to wreck havoc on slower pokemon. The two absolute must-have attacking moves are Bullet Punch and Bug Bite; both STAB moves that benefit from its Technician ability. As for the last move-slot, the user has the choice between Knock Off and Superpower, depending on what threats the user is more concerned about.

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Healing Wish
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
This is the classic bulky defog set for Latias. The 72 HP helps Latias tank Secret Swords from Keldeo, which is a pokemon that can wreck havoc on this team if it is allowed to set up. The excellent bulk of this set allows it to function as a pivot for another, frailer pokemon to come in. For example, Latias can switch into a Keldeo, scare it out, and pull a double into Talonflame predicting a Ferrothorn or Mamoswine if predicting a Heatran switch.

Talonflame @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 156 HP / 220 Atk / 84 SpD / 48 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- Roost
This is a unique set of my own creation. It focuses on sweeping with Acrobatics after eating the Sitrus Berry, powering up Acrobatics to an astounding 110 base power; almost as strong as Brave Bird, minus the recoil. The EVs allow Talonflame to soak hits from pokemon that try to damage it, allowing it to continue to set up Swords Dances while roosting off any damage. The Sitrus Berry can be activated by utilizing Flare Blitz until the recoil drops its health down to below half, or by allowing Talonflame to take damage from a pokemon that cannot KO it. This activates an instant 25% health recovery as well as powering up Acrobatics for a priority sweep. The HP is set so that upon taking Stealth Rocks on entry (assuming they are up), the Sitrus Berry is instantly activated. At first glance, this set may seem inferior to a no-item Talonflame with acrobatics, but through countless tests and comparisons, SitrusFlame has proven itself to be superior because of the surprise factor, instant health gain for more delicious Swords Dances, as well as recovering from recoil if there is no time for Roost (such as after you must Flare Blitz on a Ferrothorn, taking recoil and Iron Barbs).

Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Spore
- Swords Dance
This Breloom packs a punch like nothing you would expect from a little guy like this. This mini-behemoth has enough power to inflict heavy damage on any Hyper Offensive team, but against stall is where this beast really shines. It can spore against any slower threat, set up a Swords Dance, and proceed to sweep. Even resisted hits do quite a lot, especially if you are set up. An example is being able to KO Mega-Charizard Y at 50% at +2 (so make sure Rocks are up on the other side of the field). Breloom is also an excellent check to Bisharp, who would otherwise cause this team massive headache.

Mamoswine @ Focus Sash
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard
This is a lead Mamoswine whose job is to set up Rocks Turn 1 so that another teammate can have an easier sweep. Having Thick Fat means that Mamoswine can be taunted, but cases are rare where the opponent can safely Taunt. If the opponent uses a Taunt user like Thundurus, it risks being KOed by an ice move. Furthermore, Mamoswine is Jolly, allowing it to outspeed bulky Taunt users, such as Skarmory and Gliscor (not that Gliscor should ever really stay in on a Mamoswine). There is also the fact that you can easily bluff the Oblivious, and players will often not want to put themselves 1 turn behind in case you ARE Oblivious. This Mamo runs Jolly to outrun lead Breloom as well as any Heatran baring a scarf set.

Raikou @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Last up is the Raikou. This set may remind you of a similar Sub+Calm Mind Keldeo set, with the different being that this Raikou is not weak to Thundurus or Talonflame, both of which are huge threats to Keldeo. Raikou is an excellent teammate to deal with opposing Skarmory, Azumarill, Suicune, and Talonflame. On a pokemon that has less offensive potential and/or rely on status (such as Rotom-W), Raikou can easily set up a Substitute to block the Willo and Calm Mind up. A Rotom's Hydro Pump cannot even break Raikou's sub if it has 2 Calm Minds, whereas Raikou inflicts a hefty 40% to defensive sets with no boosts. This set is a lot less common, so opponents may expect the classic Volt Turning Raikou, and attempt to switch to a ground type. This would be a mistake, because this is where you would reveal the HP Ice, which can OHKO Gliscor and Offensive Landorus-T (the latter of which you would need to predict the switch-in, because they can be Scarf sets).
Threat List
Fast LO SD Bisharp: This set can find ample opportunities to set up, such as against Latias. This is most threatening late game, when Breloom is weakened/knocked out, and it can rely on Sucker Punch to destroy my faster threats. I usually end up playing mind games with Talonflame, since Acrobatics outspeeds Sucker Punch, but at the cost of risking their prediction of that and using Knock Off.Mega-Gardevoir: Let's be honest here; when is this NOT a threat? Mega-Gardevoir is extremely bulky on the special side, meaning it matches up well against my Raikou, and can hit me through the Substitute, making that useless. Although Mega-Scizor resists its moves, it still takes a massive chunk off, meaning my switch-ins are limited.
Talonflame: I must be very careful about not letting my opponent's Talonflame set up. If they are Jolly, that means that they can use Flare Blitz and easily outspeed Raikou, who is otherwise my one check to Brave Bird spam.
Unaware Clefable: I had trouble dealing with Unaware Clefable because much of my team relies heavily on setting up, meaning guys like Talonflame and Raikou would be doing measly damage at +0. It becomes especially troublesome if they start Calm Minding, because if Mega-Scizor is gone or weakened, I may lose to Clefable.

Last Words
Mega-Scizor is an unrivaled sweeper with huge potential, since it is both tanky and threatening. Allowing Mega-Scizor to get up a Swords Dance gives it the opportunity to plow through teams like no other, as shown in the example calcs above. Even so, I do find myself often having trouble sweeping with Mega-Scizor because I fail to get rid of its counters (such as Skarmory and Heatran). Feel free to leave any comments, suggestions, and questions you may have. Any and all input is appreciated.
