Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
This set utilizes Serperior's stellar Speed tier to force common threats such as Terrakion and Gliscor out, and it also takes advantage of this to set up a Substitute and almost always use Leech Seed before the foe attacks to wear down common checks, most notably Alolan Muk, early-game. In addition, Substitute also allows Serperior to scout the foe's moves and protect itself from status. Serperior has issues dealing with faster Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Beedrill, as they prevent it from getting up both a Substitute and a Special Attack boost without being forced out afterwards. Partners like Infernape help mitigate this by not only forcing those faster Pokemon out but also forcing in bulky Water-types that Serperior can easily switch into. Even though the boosts from Leaf Storm are a draw to using Serperior, it is very weak unboosted, so it fails to threaten Amoonguss. As such, pairing it with wallbreakers that can soften the opposing team gives Serperior the potential to sweep late-game.
