Set Description
=========
Garchomp is one of the tier's best Stealth Rock setters due to its great bulk and ability to punish common Defog options like Zapdos and Tornadus-T with Toxic. Protect is useful for not only helping Garchomp generate more of its health back with Leftovers but also for scouting Choice-locked Pokemon such as Tapu Lele and Dragapult. Fire Blast gives Garchomp the ability to pressure some of its common annoyances, mainly Corviknight, Ferrothorn, and Skarmory. This EV spread allows Garchomp to outspeed Adamant Bisharp, Modest Volcanion, and Jolly Tyranitar while maximizing bulk to survive Tapu Koko's Dazzling Gleam at +2, Modest Choice Scarf Tapu Lele's Moonblast and Choice Band Urshifu-R's Close Combat after Spikes. Leftovers gives Garchomp important longevity, allowing it to recover its health throughout the game while shrugging off hits, helping reduce the amount of chip damage it takes from entry hazards and Heatran's Magma Storm, which it often switches into as one of Heatran's best checks.
Team Options
========
Garchomp fits best on bulky offense teams that love its hazard setting capabilities and defensive profile. Knock Off users such as Kartana, Zeraora and Weavile complement Garchomp well, with Kartana being able to bait in Flying-types and remove their Heavy-Duty Boots to make them vulnerable to Stealth Rock damage, and the latter two being able to take down some of Garchomp's checks, with Zeraora handling Tapu Fini and Tornadus-T and Weavile shutting down Landorus-T. Defensive partners such as Corviknight and Slowbro match well with Garchomp to create a strong defensive core who appreciate Garchomp's ability to take on threats like Heatran and Zapdos for it while they handle the likes of Melmetal and Urshifu-R. Corviknight also comes equipped with the ability to take on Fairy and Ice-type Pokemon that Garchomp hates like Tapu Lele and Weavile, making for an excellent teammate. Rillaboom has fantastic synergy with Garchomp as it can also remove Heavy-Duty Boots from Flying-types like Zapdos and Tornadus-T with Knock Off, forcing them to take Stealth Rock damage. Though Rillaboom does weaken Garchomp's Earthquake via Grassy Terrain, the additional recovery helps Garchomp be much more resilient by using Protect to recover significant amounts of HP when Grassy Terrain is active. This also preserves Garchomp's health recovery if its Leftovers have been removed by Pokemon like Zeraora and Tornadus-T via Knock Off, making Rillaboom a unique and powerful partner.
