Having multiple ways to boost its Speed and holding a nearly unresisted STAB combination, Excadrill is a potent setup sweeper for Ground-type sand teams, as it can take advantage of forced switches by posing as its Choice Band set. Corkscrew Crash lets Excadrill overwhelm multiple checks, OHKOing Tornadus-T when unboosted; Sinistcha, Mega Latias, and Mega Sableye at +2; and Mega Venusaur at +2 after Stealth Rock damage. Rapid Spin lets Excadrill compress utility by removing entry hazards for its team while also raising its Speed; Rapid Spin is also a good move to finish foes off to make Excadrill more difficult to revenge kill. Excadrill appreciates Hippowdon, which is a sand setter required to easily enable Sand Rush. Excadrill can struggle against Water-types that are immune to Ground such as Rotom-W and Pelipper, so it appreciates Gastrodon and Clodsire as allies to pivot to; in turn they can support Excadrill by setting entry hazards or crippling the aforementioned foes with status. Flying-types such as Mega Charizard Y, Zapdos, and Skarmory can also be problematic for Excadrill to deal with, so checks such as Mega Garchomp and Mamoswine are appreciated.
