Shamelessly stolen from alexwolf, who got the idea from Zebraiken

Welcome to the Theorymon Project of 6th gen's LC. Here, every 3-4 days, we are going to choose one Pokemon among a list of Pokemon, all of which will have little to zero viability in LC, and will all have an additional move / ability / typing that they didn’t originally have. Once the voting ends and the community decides on which Pokemon we will focus the next 3-4 days, i will post some guiding questions and we will start discussing the impact that this change would have had in our current metagame (what role would this Pokemon take, with what Pokemon it would compete for a teamslot, what teammates it would like, etc).

How will this list of Pokemon will be created each time? I will be accepting ideas from the community and i may also put some of my own ideas into a relatively small slate (5-6 Pokemon) each time, so each time the community will have 3-4 days to PM me good theorymon ideas that fit the criteria i will mention below. If you do not PM me your submission, I will not accept it. Every Pokemon that wins on each voting will be recorded in the archive, together with the name of the person who submitted it.

At the end of every month, we will have roughly ~8 new Pokemon. If this project gets enough popularity, I will see about a custom ladder being made. After exactly one month, the ladder will be reset, the old 8 Pokemon will be removed, and the new Pokemon that we will have voted on and discussed during this month will take their place. Finally, the names of the top 3 players at the end of each month will be saved in the Hall Of Fame (this number may be increased depending on popularity).

Here are some general rules that each theorymon suggestion should follow:
  • Don't suggest changes about Pokemon that are already pretty viable in LC. Of course the term 'pretty viable' is open to interpretation, but in general, everything in C rank and below in the viability ranking thread is fair game.
  • Don’t suggest changes that make or may make a Pokemon broken (i.e, and this is pretty out there as an example, but don't change Archen's ability)
  • Only theorymon ideas that bring positives to the LC metagame and have useful implications will be picked, which means no Huge Power on random Pokemon and other similar buffs.
  • You can only add a secondary typing to Pokemon of one type, or change the second type of a dual-typed Pokemon. Eg. Adding a Grass type to Flabebe, or changing Bulbasaur from Grass / Poison to Grass / (insert other type)
  • Those changes should at the very least not contradict flavor. They don’t have to fit a Pokemon’s flavor perfectly, but don’t suggest a secondary Fire-type for Grass-types for example.
And here is a suggestion to make your theorymon more likely to get picked and give you a better idea of what we are looking for in this project. Yes this refers to OU, but it still needs to be read, and the idea of it is still relevant:

Also, an advice to anyone that wants to submit a theorymon. Don't suggest mindless offensive buffs. The metagame is already very offensive and we don't need more powerhouses, such as Boomburst Meloetta and Shell Smash Lapras. If you want to suggest something offensive, you should be sure that it adds something positive to the metagame and is not just one more powerful attacker. For example, Latios is a strong and fast special attacker that brings a lot to the table other than offensive presence, thanks to its good resistances, special bulk, and Defog.

For this reason, defensive buffs are more what i am looking for. Giving to not so viable Pokemon buffs that will allow them to successfully fill a defensive niche in the OU metagame. If your suggestion does that and doesn't contradict the flavor of the Pokemon, it's very likely to get slated. This doesn't mean that suggestions about offensive buffs won't get slated, just that i will be much more careful about them, and i will only pick them if they come along with some utility instead of sheer force.

So, please before submitting your suggestion, take a second to think about how this suggestion will fit in the metagame. This thread is not so that we can talk about mindless buffs to random Pokemon, but for us to find ways to improve the OU metagame by giving buffs to not so viable or completely unviable Pokemon.

Each theorymon will be discussed for 3-4 days, and then i will make a slate out of the proposed theorymons you guys send me, and we will vote on them. You can PM me any good ideas you may have whenever you like, as long as they obey the rules listed above. Let's get this thread started!

Ghost/Dark Yamask

Some guiding questions for our discussion:
  • What kind of playstyle will be affected by this addition to the meta?
  • How does this change the way Yamask is used, and what are the most effective sets it could utilize?
  • What Pokemon will benefit most from this change in the meta? What will be hurt the most?
  • What will the checks/counters be to this new addition to the meta?

Grass/Fairy Petilil (+Fairy STAB as well; Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam to be specific)

Slack Off Munchlax

Multiscale Dratini

Drought Charmander

Quiver Dance Larvesta, Venonant, Surskit and Petilil. (Petilil can be discussed with the Grass/Fairy typing)

Synthesis + Grass-type walls that lack the move (Pumpkaboo, Phantump, Foongus and Ferroseed) (Or any form of recovery for these four would be stellar)

I like some of the stuff you guys are presenting, just remember to PM me with your submissions, and give an explanation of why this would help the metagame.

Recover Nosepass - Insane Defenses + reliable recovery? Yes please.
Regenerator Pancham - Regen Parting Shot omg
Adaptability Skrelp - Adaptability is its unreleased HA, also puts more impetus behind its STABs.
75 Special Attack Voltorb - More power prevents it from being entirely outclassed by Elekid.

Ghost/Dark Yamask - Something That walls Meditite, along with an ability to get rid of Huge Power, and burn stuff. It's really bulky, but never had the typing to work.

Brave Bird Rufflet < 83 Base Atk, Hustle, Brave Bird, Scarf. Need I say more? This'd be sweet (accuracy and no prio hold it back).

Magic Bounce Nosepass

It should be noted that the only mons gifted with the ability Magic Bounce are also weak to Dark And Ghost, types which offer a vast array of mons with many tricky status moves. What makes this bad is that the Dark and Ghost mons can still overpower the Magic Bounce carriers, hitting them for super effective damage with their STAB attacks, which really makes Magic Bounce partly a waste as far as its distribution. The raw point of this in relevance to the LC tier is that Natu CAN block Krow's Confuse Ray and T-wave, and Missy's WoW, but they don't give a damn because they can mow Natu down with force anyway. With the sheer high usage of such mons in the tier, and as good as they are, this makes Magic Bounce far less appealing than its effects entail.

But what if a mon who wasn't weak to those types could get Magic Bounce? Imagine Prankster Krow vs Magic Bounce Nosepass, or really ANYTHING who could break this typical pattern of Magic Bouncers being defensively weak to so many of the common tricksters. To me, this is a very happy thought, and I believe that such an addition could be fruitful to the LC metagame and could bring Magic Bounce's true worth to the forefront.

Shell Smash Kabuto

Shell Smash Kabuto would be ridiculously strong and pretty hard to handle. Since Kabuto has pretty damn high atk and a decentish spatk stat I could see mixed SS Kabuto with Waterfall / Shell Smash / Rock Slide / Ice Beam. Furthermore due to Kabuto's pretty good natural bulk there is a lot of Pokemon in LC that could not stop it from just Smashing in there face and proceeding to sweep. Also just look at it, that shell is obviously waiting to be broken open x). Although I am sure there are a few checks/counters to this thing I am positive that Shell Smash Kabuto would be a force to be reckoned with
