Consumed by Darkness...
The Winner of Week 25 goes to Monkey Smurf's Rock Tomb Mega Medicham! Congratz for entering the Hall of Fame!

The Pokemon for Week 26 is Chandelure!

When I saw Chandelure at D Rank I was kind of curious what it could do in the OU tier to deserve it. I guess checking Zard Y which is fair enough, but what moveset would be best for it to survive in the harsh OU Tier?

P.S. Chandelure has no OU Movesets in the SmogDex, so go wild...

Defensive Chandelure

Chandelure @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Flamethrower
- Pain Split

Defensive Chandelure is a possibility thanks to its great anti-grass and steel typing. Flamethrower hits very hard and can easily OHKO some important Steel pokemons such as Ferrothorn and Scizor. With the aid of WoW you can demolish your counters like Pursuit trappers like Tyranitar and Bisharp and other Knock Off spammers which thinks they are safe in front of this Ghost. Taunt stops status moves and set-up moves i.e. SD on defensive Landorus. Pain Split keeps you healthy especially against pink blobs and bulky stuff in general.

EVs spread: Timid nature + max Spe enables Chandelure to outrun and check stuff like Mamoswine, Lucario and Breloom. This also means you will be faster than Gyarados and Dragonite allowing you to burn them before they click Dragon Dance (bar Lum Berry).

Team(mates) support: a way to deal with Heatran.

Substitute-trick chandelure

Chandelure @ flame orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252Spa/ 4 SpD / 252Spe
Modest Nature
- Substitute
- Trick

- Pain Split / energy ball / hex
- Fire Blast

Chandelier should basically do 2 things. Wall steel fire and grass types and nuke the crap out of stuff with fire blast.

Normally this behavior is walled by blobs and rock types. With this set, you sub on the predicted switch, trick the burninator to whatever came in, permanently crippling it. Chanseys gets hardwalled/broken by sub/trick/painsplit.

Edit: you might ask why not use willo wisp? Trick+flame orb consolidates the answer to ttar and blissey to one moveslot, so you can run pain split or another attacking move. Flame orb can also bluff a choice item and won't miss.

Replays to follow when I get to a comp.

P.S. this also seriously plunders full stall. Skarmory and other physical walls get blown up. Chansey is boinked. Mega sab gets smacked... Especially if it willos. Mvenu can't touch you. Clef can cm, but that's about it.

RegularChand (Chandelure) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute

While probably not as heat as some of the other suggestions, Sub+CM Chandy is actually quite effective in OU as a stallbreaker. Chansey can't touch it behind a sub, leaving it free to boost up all over it. Common stall staples, like amoongus, crumple rather easily to this set or are turned into setup bait. However, it does struggle a bit with the presence of TTar on many stall builds hoping to pick off Hoopa-U. I suppose Energy Ball could be run to target Quagsire or TTar, but It's really not doing much to TTar anyway and can already 2HKO Quagsire.

Chandelure @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Will-o-wisp/ Inferno (if u real)
- Hex
- Fire Blast

The basic idea of this set is to sub on the switch, burn them with either wisp or Inferno, and spam hex and win. This allows it to beat some stuff like Bisharp without having to risk the 50/50 of pursuit/sucker. Infiltrator> flash fire to get behind subs with willo.

Reserving SubSplit o_O

Chandelure @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Pain Split

Everyone who played Gen V OU knows or at least heard of the terror that is SubSplit Gengar. Chandelure on the other hand, was a completely underrated Pokemon that could run a similar set. This set allows Chandelure to muscle through stall teams, the most notable of which is Chansey. Wish + Protect, as well as Soft-Boiled have 16 PP, whereas Pain Split has a total of 32 PP, which makes Chansey incapable of stalling this set out, and the worst case scenario is that both combatants run out of PP & end up fighting a Struggle war. EV's are standard & Leftovers allows for more staying power.

Flame Charge Chandelure

Chandelure @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Fire Blast
- Flame Charge

This set allows you to take advantage of switches that Chandelure can easily force with its good coverage by using Flame Charge to raise your speed by one stage and take advantage of many pokemon that would normally outspeed and beat Chandelure, such as Gengar, Latios, Starmie, Weavile, etc.

The set is standard otherwise, you hit 426 speed at +1, and you hit hard with a Life Orb as well as the fact that it is coming off of Chandelure's nice base 145 Special Attack stat.

Chandelure @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball

Probably a really bad set but Chandelure isn't very fast, especially uninvested, so it might be a decent offensive Trick Room user with decent STABs and coverage, along with that huge 145 Special Attack stat. And a lot of the slower things below it, like Ferrothorn, can't really touch it, so it doesn't have way too much problems with being outslowed.

Chandelure @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball
- Fire Blast

Chandelure isn't as slow as you guys are making it out to be! I mean, it has the same Speed stat as Hoopa-U. Anyways, this is a standard Chandelure set and I think one of the ones it can pull off effectively without being outshined. Hidden Power Ice just nukes Garchomp / Landorus-T, which it outspeeds (both). Chandelure is crazy strong; however, I thikn Will-O-Wisp is an absolute necessity since it admittedly is lacking in bulk.

SubToxic Chandelure
Chandelure @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball / Hex

Toxic is pretty effective on Chandelure since its STABs allow it to break through pretty much all Toxic-immune Pokemon. It can be useful for wearing down specially bulky Pokemon as well as Pokemon that resist its STABs such as Tyranitar. Substitute protects against Pursuit and Sucker Punch and, in combination with Toxic, allows it to easily beat Chansey or Blissey in a 1v1 situation.

Hex is a pretty good alternative to Shadow Ball on this set to take advantage of the poison (or potentially lucky burns), though it is much less effective against Heatran and less consistent in power.

Chandelure @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Confuse Ray
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball

well i'm not too sure about what you would be doing with this but i guess you could try to set up a sub to be annoying while using confuse ray to cheese people haha

Heatran 2.0

Chandelure @ Grip Claw
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Spin
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Hex / Fire Blast

Credit to some random in the OU chat earlier. This set is kinda crap, but so is Chandelure so w/e. Basically, this set uses the combination of Fire Spin, Toxic and Taunt to cheese its way past Chansey. Your choice of Hex or Fire Blast depends on what you want to hit and is more there to give you some kind of offensive presence. The key advantage of this over Heatran is its Ghost typing means that once its trapped Chansey it is able to Taunt it and leave it unable to do anything back to it or heal. Grip Claw is used to ensure that it has enough turns to Taunt it and Toxic it before it breaks out of the vortex.

Chandelure @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball / Hidden Power Fighting
- Trick

ok we're already into the gimmick section and we still haven't seen specs yet so here it is. Chandelure is plenty powerful, and has enough coverage to make Specs a legitimate option. This set is pretty basic, dual STABs plus Energy Ball allows you to hit most of the tier for at least neutral damage, while Trick gives you a way of crippling fully special walls, Pursuit trappers, etc. Speaking of Pursuit trappers, Chandy tends to bait stuff like Tyranitar so Hidden Power Fighting is a nice way of dealing with that on the switch in. Honestly the only reason to use this over something like Hoopa-U is the typing, Fire Ghost STABs are actually pretty powerful in their own right and Chandy's typing allows it to check stuff like Ferrothorn, Scizor, Breloom, Amoongus, and the like.

Why are SubCM, Scarf and Specs on this list? Pretty sure they don't count as TNBT because those are the standard sets.
I doubt sets like SubToxic, Trick Room or SubSplit work better than one of the above sets or another pokemon.
Flame Charge Chandelure seems effective as a late game cleaner but so is Scarf because Shadow Ball has great coverage. Voting for Wisp + HP Ice Chandelure because it lures in many Chandelure checks like TTar, Garchomp and Azu which is pretty cool.
