Introduction

Hey smogon, I want to show you a team I have built 1 month ago around mega-charizard-y. I have used it on ladder having a rank near the rank 100 and near 1800 of elo. I have not the screenshot of me with aproximetely 1780, but I have one with 1760 :x. I hope that's enough.

Building Process

charizard_by_french_cyndaquil-db7a8p1.gif

I started building with mega-charizard-y, because of its potential to break walls (except chansey) with a decent speed tier.

Then, I paired zard-y with tapu lele because all the things that wall tapu lele (magearna celesteela and jirachi mainly) are KOed by charizard.

Then, I need a grass type, like all teams, with sun you might think that ferrothorn is not the best mon in sun, but, in fact, sun does not affect in many KOs, because ferrothorn is KOed with fire moves without sun too. I think the only common mon that does not kill ferro without sun is stallbreaker lele, and is not that common; 252+ SpA Tapu Lele Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn in sun (95.4 - 112.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO.

Then, I thought I need a rocker, because rocks ferrothorn is not that good and I needed a ground type, I put lando-t that benefits from sun too.

With charizard you need a defogger because it is so weak to rocks. The team with a rapid spin user would be very good, because that is a hazzard stacking with zard-y, but all the spinners are really bad in OU, except excadrill, that is not very good either. With that said, I needed a defogger, I do not like more than 1 tapu in a team, so finally I decided to put a zapdos.

Finally, I thought I needed a water type, even having a zard-y, so I put greninja all-out attacker with hydro pump. Ironically right now does not have h-pump, that is because right now is scarf and ice beam fits better in my team.

The Team
latest

Red Phoenix (Charizard-Mega-Y) @ Charizardite Y
charizarditey.png

Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

The pokemon the team was made around. With fire-blast+sun is insanely powerful. 252 speed for beeing as fast as possible and 252 spa allows you to hit as hard as possible. Modest is for 2 specific things, is for having a 100% chance to kill kyurem-black of fire blast, and for having a 87% chance to KO heatran with focus blast.

252+ SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Kyurem-Black in Sun: 420-495 (107.4 - 126.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heatran: 316-374 (97.8 - 115.7%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

The zoo worker (Tapu Lele) @

Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Taunt
- Hidden Power [Fire]

First, tapu lele was scarf lele, but after playing some games, I noticed that stall 6-0 me, so I put stallbreaker tapu lele that helps me beating stall. Shed shell is because of duggy. Psyshock to hit chansey harder (without twisteed spoon is as 3KO, but lele still wins). Moonblast as the second stab move that you will probably click if psychic terrain ends and the other mon is not something like chansey or blissey. HP fire for having a way to 2KO things like ferro or scizor, with sun, hp fire can 2KO almost all of the steel types that usually are switched into lele. Taunt is for having a easier matchup vs stall, because I am shed shell, lele does not 2KO chansey, so taunt is necessary to prevent soft-boiled. 252 spa + modest to hit as hard as possible with 252 speed to be fast still.

Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 32 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Discharge
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Defog
- Roost

Tweety bird

The defogger of the team. Discharge is the stab move that has a decent paralysis percentage that can be crucial sometimes. I have been using hp ice instead of heat wave for zygarde mainly. Subcoil zygarde is a problem, because it can setup in ferro, in zapdos if it is not running hp ice, in greninja if it is locked in gunk shot or rock slide (only if the opponent knows it is scarf obviusly) and in zard-y. Defog is here because zard-y is extremely weak to rocks. Roost is for having more longevity. Maximum HP and 240 def to have an answer to pinsir-mega. 248 HP because of the rocks damage, 16 spe to pass in speed adamant bisharp (used in webs).

Bush (Ferrothorn) @ Leftovers

Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave
- Power Whip

The best mon in sun. As I have said in the building process ferro is not as bad in sun as you will think in paper. The combination of spikes+rocks+zard-y is simply powerful, capable of having a small 2KO chance on chansey with the 3 layer of spikes+rocks, and capable of doing a 2KO to toxapex with 2 layers of spikes. Leech seed is a pseudo-recovery move that allows ferrothorn to keep healthy during the match. Thunder wave is here because my team without including greninja is really slow and this speed control really benefits my team. Power whip is the stab move that do some damage to tapu fini when it tries to defog in ferrothorn. The evs are here to give ferro bulk in both defenses, but not for nothing special.

Inari (Landorus-Therian) @ Rocky Helmet
rockyhelmet.png

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 24 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn

Inari

I think I do not have a team without lando-t lol. It is a great pivot that complete the volturn core with greninja. It is my ground resist and my rocker. Earthquake is here because it is a powerful stab attack. Stealth rock really pressure a lot, much more with a layer of spikes. HP ice is, ironically to beat other lando-t and subcoil zygarde. U-turn is for having momentum and form a momentum core with greninja. 252 HP with 216 def to stop physical attackers. 24 spd to avoid the KO from the draco meteor of a latios and the 16 in spe for modest magnezone and adamant tyranitar.

Blind frog (Greninja) @ Choice Scarf
choicescarf.png

Ability: Protean
EVs: 16 Atk / 252 SpA / 240 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Rock Slide
- Ice Beam
- U-turn
- Gunk Shot

Oh scarf gren, that sounds like a bad set. After noticing that I can not beat stall, I change tapu lele to stallbreaker, I noticed I needed a scarf. Scarf greninja is always running u-turn so, with that I complete the momentum core with lando and I beat volcarona and charizard-x to. It is a really nice lure to koko and scarf lele. As I have said before, rock slide is for volcarona mostly. Ice beam is preferable over hydro pump because of sun, with this you also have a big chance to KO zygarde. U-turn is here for momentum. Gunk shot is for, luring koko and scarf tapu lele, and because without this you are walled by tapu fini. 252 spa for hitting as hard as possible, 240 in spe to be faster than scarf dugtrio and 16 in atk to have a little more power.

Threats

Heatran:
_485_heatran_by_pokemon_ressources-d9mkshu.gif
Oh, that is one of the team´s biggest threats. I am using modest zard because of tran because I do not have a switch to it, only a mon that gives it a boost to its fire type attacks. If zard is out of the match and sun is already there, the only thing I can do with this thing is sacking a mon and switching into lando.

Nihilego:
_793_nihilego_by_pokemon_ressources-dapc2rv.png
I have not a truly answer to it, with sun it does a lot of damage to ferro with hp fire, and it also destroys the other mons with power gem and sludge wave. Greninja can not do anything to nihilego because it lacks hydro pump. Fortunately power gem is a 3KO on lando and I can kill it with eq.

Thundurus:
_642_thundurus_by_pokemon_ressources-d9muh6i.gif
I struggle with this because of its speed tier+ nasty plot, it can not set up in most of my pokemon only in ferro and zapdos, but if it is switched on ferro or in a free turn in zard-y you will have to sack 1 mon to revenge kill it with greninja.

Charizard-Mega-Y & Charizard-Mega-X:
006_by_mysticumbreon-da3vq8l.png
Because my team really struggles with fire types because I lack a bulky water type, they really take advantage of sun. In the case of charizard-y, I can just revenge kill it with greninja, but to do this, you have to sack 1 mon, because switch into greninja on a fire blast is really dangerous and gren will be fainted soon if you do that. in the case of zard-x, is more difficult, if landorus-t is not health at all, you will have to sack landorus-t+ferrothorn to revenge kill with greninja, yes, is a really bad problem.

Conclusion:

I think is a solid team I have built. The lack of a bulky water type make that the team struggles with fire. This has making me to think to put a nihilego. But after some tests, I was so weak to Greninja-Ash and I put greninja again.

Thanks for reading :)
