Hello friends. This is a team that I am aiming to get >1700 with, and currently it has proven to be extremely effective. I am posting this to share my team with you guys, and I hope you can give me constructive feedback to help me on my quest :D
At a glance:
Retired members:
Swampert wasn't strong enough to beat most Pokemon, Forretress had a x4 Fire weakness and was damaged too often by Fighting and Ground moves, and Thundurus lacked a way to check Fighting types. You will be missed D':
In-depth:
MEGA-ABOMASNOW
Abomasnow @ Abomasite
Ability: Snow Warning
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Avalanche
- Ice Shard
- Protect
Q: Why the physical Mega-Abomasnow set? Is this a gimmick?
With the Mega Stone, one can rack up passive damage as well as switch attacks, which wasn't possible with his previous choice builds. Running this unexpected physical set has proven to be effective, with many people not expecting surprise Avalanches and Wood Hammers coming from this guy. Megazard Y cannot take an Avalanche:
252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Avalanche vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 89.9 - 106% -- OHKO under Hail
Q: So how does one manage to hit Mega Charizard Y with an Avalanche?
A: You can't take a Fire Blast, but you can take a Focus Blast (prediction is needed here). Increased bulk has also helped him survive more attacks and tank a couple of hits:
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Abomasnow: 76 - 89.5% -- 2HKO
Q: What about Mega Charizard X?
A: Outrage cannot KO Abomasnow:
252+ Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Outrage vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Abomasnow: 71.8 - 84.6% -- 2HKO
BUT:
252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Avalanche vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard X: 66.7 - 78.8%
252+ Atk Mega Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard X: 22.4 - 26.5%
Even if you get the worst damage roll possible, Megazard X still dies to hail.
Q: You obviously can't take a Fire Blast. Not even a Flamethrower. D:<
A: Abomasnow is an offensive powerhouse, but he obviously needs support. Which brings me to my next Pokemon:
HEATRAN
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 248 SDef / 8 Spd
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Roar
Q: Really? Heatran?
A: This guy's immunity to Fire is great. Not only can he take hits without defensive investment, he can Roar and set up Rocks for my team! He can outspeed most other Heatran with speed EVs, with a 2HKO with Earth Power. So no more sweepers, and no more Special Attackers:
+3 252+ Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Outrage vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 88 - 103.8% -- 25% OHKO chance
Q: Other than wall Charizards, what can he do?
A: Tank super-effective hits. Here:
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Surf vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Heatran: 57.2 - 68.6% -- 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Cloyster Rock Blast (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 59.5 - 71.2% -- 2HKO
252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 59 - 69.9% -- 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Heatran: 59.8 - 70.7% -- 2HKO
Q: Okay, then what about defence? Powerful Fighting and Ground moves will --
A: Shh. Now onto my next Pokemon:
LATIAS
Shoutout to LOStreamer
Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Q: Why Latias?
A: Defensive Latias has good bulk and stops Fire & Ground Pokemon, this is great for my other wall, Heatran. Roost and Defog are there to get rid of hazards, while HP Fire can nab Scizor and Ferrothorn. Psyshock is just a STAB move so it isn't taunt bait.
252+ Atk Scizor U-turn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Latias: 53.2 - 63.1% -- 2HKO
4 SpA Latias Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Scizor: 54.6 - 65.1% -- 2HKO
252 SpA Mega Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 69.7 - 82.9% -- 2HKO
4 SpA Latias Psyshock vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gengar: 87 - 103% -- 18.8% OHKO chance
Q: Dude, all your Pokemon aren't that good offensively except for Abomasnow. You walls are just tanks, anything that can help?
A: Instead off trying to keep Abomasnow alive just for Ice Shard, I've got 2 Pokemon that can help :D
TORNADUS
Shoutout to Blackraven
Tornadus @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Bulk Up
- Acrobatics
- Superpower
Q: How does he fit in on a Hail team at all?
A: Well, he can safely switch in on a Fighting type and set up. With Substitute and Hail, he'll get down to 110 BP Acrobatics within a few turns!
+1 252+ Atk Tornadus Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Darmanitan: 124.7 - 147% -- OHKO
(too lazy to do any more calcs)
Q: So where's your special attacker? Your team will be vulnerable to Fire types now because of their burns.
A: This brings me to one of the best wall-breakers on my team:
KELDEO
Shoutout to sparrowkatana
Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power [Ghost]
- Icy Wind
Q: Hey look! A pony!
A: THE pony. Keldeo is capable of punching holes in stuff. This is a standard Specs set, and it is effective for getting rid of Pokemon my team does not want to handle later on. HP Ghost allows it to hit Dark types (helps Latias) and fight Celebi.
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mega Tyranitar: 133.9 - 158.4% -- OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hidden Power Ghost vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Celebi: 36.1 - 42.5%
Q: Ok, but he needs quite a lot of support from your team. Dragon types are a huge counter, most of them can tank your Ice attacks and sweep. What have you done to address this?
A: This brings me to the last Pokemon on my team:
KYUREM
Kyurem @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Blizzard
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
Q: Blizzard and Focus Blast are risky choices, and Kyurem is really weak to Stealth Rock and other things like Fighting, Rock, and Steel.
A: Which is why the Choice Scarf set! Sweeping under Hail is easy (just click Blizzard), many don't expect Kyrem to outspeed and cleanly OHKO one of their Pokemon:
252 SpA Kyurem Blizzard vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Multiscale Dragonite: 111.1 - 131.4% (with friggin' multiscale!)
252 SpA Kyurem Blizzard vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Skarmory: 72.1 - 85.3%
252 SpA Kyurem Blizzard vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 70.4 - 83.1%
See? So here is my revenge killer/wall breaker/punch-holes-through-a-team-Pokemon.
The team is complete.
CONCLUSION & CREDITS
Sadly, my team is overly reliant on Forretress for getting rid of SR, and can't function as well if a teammate is knocked out (with so many x4 resists, and x4 weaknesses, one misplay can cost you a match).
If I'm going to make a balanced and powerful team tobeat sparrowkatana reach the 1700s mark, I would really appreciate it if you guys would give some constructive feedback on this team. Thanks for reading this RMT :D
A viable hail team?
Will it be possible?

The reason why I think this team has the potential to reach the 1700s mark on the ladder, is because I think, with proper usage and prediction, it can take on any kind of team.Sadly, my team is overly reliant on Forretress for getting rid of SR, and can't function as well if a teammate is knocked out (with so many x4 resists, and x4 weaknesses, one misplay can cost you a match).
